I just received the HP mini 110 with the broadcom hd crystal chip. I'm finding this purchase mostly useless as I can't easily find HD material that will run using it inside the arcsoft software. Adobe 11 I hear will sometime in 2010 but now I can't find much except some third rate movie sites.
View 4 RepliesI have a Compaq presario V5000 series with windows xp about 4 years old. It has been running fine on wireless for years until a few days ago. I was getting a code 10 but now it doesnt even appear in the device manager anymore. Also, I still get resource conflict screen at startup. If I hit F1 everything starts up as normally but no broadccom!
Heres what I did so far.
Destructive recovery
reinstalled windows
installed updated drivers for broadcom and bios.
defraged
changed wireless card
I have a HP dv6-1133ea (in my sig). It has the broadcom wireless card. It is running windows 7 64 bit.
Just recently the wireless has started acting up. It can see my home network fine but just won't connect properly saying "no network connectivity" etc. I know that the network is fine as my partner's vaio (and incidentally my old Toshiba A30 that I am using to write this post) can connect fine.
I have tried re-installing the vista 64 driver from HP's website but that makes no difference. Turning the wireless on and off or restarting also doesn't change things. I have also tried re-adding the network key but that did nothing too.
Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas what to do?
W7 has always been a tad funny with wireless...
I have a dv4z and wanted to upgrade its wifi capabilities. Right now it has a Broadcom 4321, and because of the HP whitelist, I can only change to a Intel Wifi link 5100. is the Intel 5100 better or worse than the Broadcom?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am having some strange problems with the backlight on my dv9700...I started a thread about this maybe 2 months ago but the backlight for whatever reason started working again and I didn't have too many issues with it until recently. Lately the backlight has only been working when it is plugged in...If I unplug it but leave the lid open it still works but as soon as I close the lid and open it again its out until I plug it back in and open and close the lid. Now I can't get the backlight to work at all except it lights up for 2 seconds or so upon closing and opening the lid. I removed the display bezel to access the display inverter and check for any loose or damaged connectors but they all appear to be fine...unplugging and plugging the display panel cable connector back in also causes the backlight to work for 2 seconds and then go out again. Besides the backlight issue the laptop seems to be working perfectly fine...can anyone help me figure this out? I should mention that I upgraded this laptop to Windows 7 right away when it was released.

View 10 Replies View RelatedJust a FYI for you, on Thursday i was nearly hit by a car and for some reason at that time i was carrying my DV9000 without any laptop bag or any protective anything at all... The thing dropped straight into three inches of snow.
Came back home, first thing i did was take out the hair drier and get rid of any water that the melting snow made. Second thing was to turn on the laptop, and it booted up first time. Third thing was to connect it to my amp and speakers, put on some Tech N9ne and have a beer. I actually finished the beer before the chorus ended... Then it was time to run to work, with laptop and all. Despite being exposed to cold yet again, she still did a flawless job. This going out to anyone who thinks HPs are unreliable.
I have an Acer Travelmate 5520 with the Crystal Eye web cam. I havent used it (but it was working originally)and when I did want to use it I received the message "camera not found". In Device Manager there is no heading for Imaging Devices. I have downloaded updated drivers but the problem seems to be recognising the hardware.
As with all things it is just out of warranty!
I just got my dv6-1131ea, one of the reasons was so I could have better gaming ability with the Radeon card, now I'm playing the Sims 3 and all I get is the following message when I start it up:
"We strongly recommend that you update your video driver"
Which is all well and good but I have the latest driver, there is nothing new on the HP site, or via HP Update, or Windows Update. If I try and install the latest catalyst package it tells me that I already have the most up to date driver.
The game is pretty choppy even at low settings, I have expected it to be much smoother than it actually has been, It's just not smooth and when I scroll around I get choppyness, I'm guessing it's to do with the video drivers but how the hell can I update them when I already have the latest?

ordered another LCD and tried to replace it, to no avail. I opened it up and everything was hooked up right. Then I tried the other LCD, he gave me with it. Same thing. When I hit the fn f4 in vista, it appears to try to switch but the LCD never comes up. Also, when switching display modes, the LCD will flicker breifly (VERY BREIF). This does not smell like a video adapter or motherboard problem. I am still working on it and researching but figured I would see what all of you thought.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an Acer Aspire 5720-4516 and started having some problems with it. I just fixed the Wireless connection problem thanks to a fellow member's suggestion ( the card was out of place), so now I'm going to address the camera problem.
Calling the Acer company, they gave me a bunch of useless information, albeit very politely, and led me in a wild goose chase. Not only that, but the drivers they had in their US page were slightly all over the place. But I digress, the camera was working fine for a few weeks after I bought the laptop, then just as easily, it wasn't opening up as it should. I downloaded drivers like crazy, and still nothing happens. The Acer Crystal Eye program opens and the 'booth' like setup is fine just as it was originally, but the space where the image is doesn't show up. After a few more tries of trying to access the program, it would just not load and it would tell me to search for the latest drivers once more. I would download the latest ones and still nothing.
I wonder if other people have had the same complications as me. Anyone have any suggestions? How can I check if the device is actually active in my computer, because I've tried looking for a way to tell and nothing comes up.
I am using a un2400 wwan UMTS modem on my HP 6930p (WinXP, SP3) and noticed that it is automatically deactivated when the battery isn't inserted into the laptop (PIN Code is also deactivated on the SIM card). Once the battery is installed, it works without any problems.
Can anyone confirm this being a normal issue with this modem?
(the Huawei EM770 modem on my eee 1000HG works with or without an inserted battery but it also doesn't require the firmware to be loaded first, so maybe these two can't be compared..)
This ones just a small problem. My webcam works fine, but it's missing on the menu and i can't locate it anywhere in my files so it's just a bit annoying if i want to make a video. It's not even in the manual (printed or computer version). It took three weeks before it appeared in the menu after I bought the laptop, but since I had to restore to factory default and god knows where it is, as i say it's only a minor problem, no location in services. and when i expand my Acer menus theres nothing there either.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy Acer Aspire 6935 has a buit-in webcam (064e a_117 in device manager) which is perfectly running according to the device manager (no yellow mark), but still can't be found by the Acer Crystal eye software in Vista. Same problem in msn or vlc.
I've installed a multiboot with xp and same problem in xp.
I've tried using the latest driver, but it's a generic windows driver, so it's the latest one.
I've tried using a specific driver, I've found one in the Asus website. It's a driver for the 64e a_117 according to the *.inf file, and now the webcam is recognized as USB 2.0 UVC HD webcam. But still not found in msn or vlc. And still fully working according to the device manager.
yesterday, i've opened the lcd cover to unplug and replug the device physically. But nothing special, it keeps saying that it's not found.
So my question is :
What can i try now to fix this webcam ?
I forgot to say that the webcam was really working two weeks ago, and windows restore didn't help.
I recieved the Aspire one notebook for a christmas gift not to long ago and it is an awesome little gadget. But what just happened a few moments ago is the camera decided it wasn't going to work anymore and I got a message saying. "Camera not detected." I tried doing restarts resets and even did a eRecovery only to be told that it was a usb device and that I need to "plug it in". I don't understand why it decided to randomly stop working and I'm rather annoyed by it and would like some assistance on this issue. I had to send back one notebook already because the power source was busted I really don't want to have to send this one back too.

I think it has to do with my laptop falling off the couch as I had problems after that getting the card reader to work (card reader is fine now). I have tried running the Crystal Eye program in XP, Vista 32-bit, Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit with no luck (it just says camera not found). Occasionally in Vista I will get a popup error message saying a usb device has malfunctioned, and when I look in device manager it says unknown device.

I have been playing about with it, which ended up meaning I unstall everything (I think). I have installed loads of drivers and software for the webcam but all failed, the camera just doesnt seem to turn on...
I have taken my screen apart unplugged it, uninstalled software, plugged in and reinstall but nothing..Plus once I have installed the driver, I look in device manager and see nothing relating to my webcam.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq 3000 Laptop, it's almost 2.4 Years old now, over the period of time I dint faced any issues with my Machine.it all started yesterday.
I was watching a movie on my Laptop yesterday, after sometime the screen froze up but the movie was playing as I was able to hear whats going in the movie.
Later I tried restarting the machine, what i get is the machine boots up properly, but the screen doesnt display anything thing, it shows up a blank white screen, sometime when the windows XP loading picture comes up the screen shows light distorted colors but again goes white blank.
I did approached a local vendor for that but he says that we need to replace on the motherboard, I was not much convinced over his explanation over the issue.
I would like to know your views on what might be the problem with my Machine.
I am going to try over connecting an external monitor and see if LCD is the problem, but I would like to know more what all possible options are there which might be affecting my machine and how much would it cost me in the worst possible case.
I basically used my webcam every night with Skype to talk to my friends. The very next day, it stops working. Ive literally tried everything. In the device manager, I have an "Unknown Device" listed as a USB. Im 100% sure this use to be my Camera.
I just used the Acer factory CDs to reinstall my OS + Drivers. All the drivers were successfully installed with the exception of the Camera Drivers (because the computer doesnt see a camera)
I tried to download the drivers from the Acer website but (both Chicony and Suyin) and everytime I try to install them a error comes up that says "Camera not found!" I have a laptop so I have no clue how its not finding it.
ive been working on this for hours now and its really getting frustrating. Here are the things ive tried, and if someone knows a solution or a different method I havent tried to fix it, PLEASE let me know
My methods:
1. Reformatted computer using Acer recovery discs
2. Downloaded and tried to install drivers from acer website (camera not found problem)
3. Put windows in Safe mode, uninstalled unknown device, restarted computer to let it automatically scan/update (still failed)
4. Deleted all pictures from My Pictures
5. Tried using Windows Vista drivers and setting to Vista Compatibility mode (I have windows 7), no avail
6. Uninstalled and reinstalled Unknown Device (aka camera) driver, didnt work
7. Tried the windows update software option, windows said everything was fine (pshhh).
8. Uninstalled unknown device, used the option "scan for hardware changes" still didnt work
9. Installed skype to see if the webcam would be recognized, which it wasnt.
I have Acer Aspire 8930G and running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit with SP2.
All drivers installed and working fine.
I noticed that my Crystal Eye webcam doesn't have the recording button and the HD resolution selection is missing. My only choices are 320 x 240 and 640 x 480.
I am using the latest Crystal Eye driver.
I'm trying to get the webcam working. I haven't used it in probably over a year, and now I can't seem to get it to work. I've read lots of posts about downloading a new driver but I've tried several different ones and none work. I have an Aspire 5517. When I go into the device manager it says the webcam is working....but it isn't.Â
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy laptop has been very happily connecting wirelessly for many years and all of a sudden in the last 2 days it is refusing to connect wirelessly saying there are no wireless networks. the wireless button is turned on and all other devices in the house connect. I have tried wired via an ethernet cable and all is fine. I have tried updating the driver and backing out to the previously installed driver and neither resolves the issue.
