View 8 RepliesI was very excited to order a dell vostro 1520 online, and i got a great deal on it. i ordered the laptop on the 14th of this month, and according to the email they sent me, it was supposed to be delivered by the 30th... which is pretty late but since i was getting a pretty good deal IMO, i thought "whatever, as long as its here before may 4th".
however, earlier today i got a call from dell telling me that they wont be able to build the laptop since they dont make them anymore.... ??? couldnt they have told me this EARLIER like say, LAST WEEK?
the dell vostro 1520 is STILL listed on their website (dell.com and click on small business) along with many other laptops. i dont know what to do at this point. obviously i will have to order another laptop, and it will come VERY late according to my schedules and time constraints... but which dell laptop can i order and which shouldnt i even bother with since they dont build it anymore and apparently are too lazy to update the website?
Has anyone got a shipping confirmation or tracking number from Arvato for their Windows 7 upgrade? I've received nothing yet and my order status on the Arvato page is "ACCEPTED", but there is no shipment confirmation or tracking number.

1. What reason is there for the 800 dollar difference in price other than the beats headphones?
2.Does the back of the case only have the beats logo on it or is there any type of laser etching like on the original envy.
I am considering on purchasing the Hp Envy 15, however I was wondering if these componants are upgradable.
Is the cpu upgradable to Arrandale when it comes out?
Is the gpu upgradable mxm type, so I can upgrade to ATI 5000 series?
Any news on the Envy 17?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've got a great offer for buying a used 1st generation Envy 15, dirt cheap.
However, I was wondering if heat management and battery life has improved with driver- and BIOS updates over time.
In short, has any of the points of criticism that the Envy originally received been improved with driver and BIOS updates?
I'm shopping for laptops right now and I'm pretty much stuck between these two. My main question for the 14 is will it be able to do full hd? I know 1920x1080 is a bit much to ask for on a 14.5" screen but I haven't been able to find a solid answer for this question. The 14 has more features and the internal cd drive is a plus, but not a dealbreaker for the 15 since the cd drive isn't used too much. Taking out price, which one would be a better buy?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a couple of questions about the Envy v2. I'm certain the answers are somewhere in the massive owner's thread but it's way too long to want to go through at this point.
My questions are:
1) Audio quality of external speakers. Is there enough bass in them? Do they sound "tin-y"?
2) Noise from the fan when the GPU is in high use. How loud is the fan? Has anyone put a decibel meter to it?
3) Temp of the GPU. My Studio 15 is hitting a high of 70c when running and was wondering how the newer ATI is.
The first I heard about the Envy line was that it was a gorgeous laptop with a great display and above-average speakers. However, it was fundamentally flawed with a horrible trackpad and overheating issues(present in the 13, but further aggravated in the 15). After the spectacular fail of a release, I dropped the Envy out of consideration.
To the present, I've recently started looking at a huge array of laptops and have taken the Envy into consideration again. From what I've heard, the Envy 15 is in its second generation(I need a full-HD laptop and won't be considering the Envy 13). It now comes equipped with a i5 processor and the HD5830.............
I pulled the trigger and purchased an envy with these specs,
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB) w/Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz
• 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
• 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5830 Graphics - For i7 Processors
• 15.6" diagonal Full High Definition LED HP Ultra Brightview Widescreen Display (1920x1080)
• Webcam Only
• Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
• HP Color Matching Keyboard
• 6 Cell Lithium Ion Polymer Battery

Well before I decided to order does this set up look fine?
I did mainly want a notebook for school work, online video, pictures, storage. But my friend got me to play COD on his notebook yesterday and I really liked it! I was considering this laptop might keep me open to play video games in the future? Or even video editing?

I did set my budget to $850 but if I can get a decent notebook like this for $200 more might as well save up a little bit more.
Just got my email saying my order was delayed. It was supposed to be here today now its the 2/23. It seems like almost everyone in this forum is getting their order delayed. Dell must really be short handed or short of supply.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI ordered my XPS 16 this afternoon but decided to change some of the specs now. The current order status is "In Production". Could I cancel it by tomorrow morning ? As now is 11.50 pm.
View 10 Replies View RelatedIf I ordered a Studio XPS 16 yesterday and I want to change some parts on it, I can just call Dell up and request that right?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo Dell is taking back my Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop b/c of heat issues and a complete line of stuck pixels on the screen. However, since there is nothing else on the market that I really like,
I am thinking about ordering a new one with the P8700 processor instead of the T9550. How much reduction in heat output could I expect from the P8700 and what type of performance decrease am I looking at? I read the thread below regarding the difference in the two processors but I'm more curious about the real world difference.
Also, should I opt for the 1GB of video RAM or the 512 MB version (and will the 1GB increase heat output)? I opted for the SSD option for heat reduction as well.
So I plan to take advantage of Dell deals and order a 15. I've got it configured with the 1GB ATI card.
What I can't decide is between better screen, or better processor. I have to come in under $1,000 shipped, and can't have both.

15.6” Full High Definition (1080p) High Brightness LED Display with TrueLife [add $75] ......
Are the products sold through the Dell Outlet as good as ordering brand new? I am interested in a Studio 15 laptop, but a new one is beyond my budget.
A previously ordered new can be bought in the outlet for as little as about $650 or so. What am I losing by buying from the outlet rather than new?
My order status is now 'shipped' and i have been provided with a tracking number. Once on the UPS tracking page, i can't work out what my shipment reference is. Any ideas?
Either:-
-My Customer Number
-Order Number
-Tracking Number
I was wondering what is the easiest way to cancel an order with Dell? Is there any way to do this online, through chat or email?
If for some reason it ships, can I refuse shipment?
Order details:
Model: SXPS 16
Order date: 1/26
Status: in 'production' with an est. of 2/12.
Here's the deal:
I saw the Best Buy thread and decided that my order with the RGBLED, Bluetooth and 2.8ghz is simply not worth the extra $1,200 to me.
The fact is I really don't 'need' those features, and after looking at the savings and hearing how good the WLED screen is, I decided I want to cancel.
My order is currently in
Phase 3In Production
When I call dell they tell me i cannot cancel the order and i have to wait until they delivery it and then call then and they will process the return and a full refund
Just trying to get an overall sense, it's hard to tell whether people are really happy with A07/130w.
Also seems there are some other lingering issues (heat, heat vent
I was originally going to cancel my Studio 17 and said I had but decided to give it a shot. Its here now arrived today. I like it alot but I have a few questions. How can my order have been built and shipped so fast I never got any emails that it was in tested or anything. Just from In production to Shipped. Next Day Air Overnight it actually went from Nashville,TN to Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Miami, FL in 24 hours.
#1. How can I tell if I am truly running Vista 64-bit. I went to run and typed WinVer but it didn't say 64-bit. (I did order 64-bit)
#2. I got the RGB LED screen and If I look sideways at the screen edge I can see RED and green lights in there I guess thats how I verify I really got the RGB LED. But the Gamma is off my Reds look a little to pink How do I change that?
#3. I ordered the Intel 5100 Wireless-N WiFi but how can I verify its in there?
I know dumb newbie questions. My first DELL. Still not sure of its a keeper they stuck a Centrino 1 label on it which makes me mad. The new Montevenia is Centrino 2 class. I went with the T9400 2.53ghz 6MB cache
On a Side Note: the 1920x1200 Display was a mistake, I can barely see the text, and my colors are off until I fix it but Vista is such crap and confusing it hides every possible setting, Even Add Remove Programs is named differently.
How does the 1/6 GHz processor stack up against the more traditional core duo? Is it roughly equal to a 2.53 GHz processor? I love windows 7 and might trade my Macbook Pro for one.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have been reading about the Envy 15 (as I'm getting closer to buying it). However, one thing that concerns me is regarding the temperatures.
So, how hot does it get?
Most likely, I'll be getting the dual SSD rig. For anyone who owns that, how hot does it get for you?
My setup is looking like the i7-820, 8GB RAM, 5830, dual-SSD. I have thought about going to the 16GB RAM option as well, though I doubt I need it.
HP's envy 15 line with the ATI 5830 GPU (i7-720/820). I do have one big concern however, and that is heat. Could anyone post their max GPU / CPU / HD temps they usually get while running an intensive game / benchmark?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI need to connect my HP Envy 15 to my TV`s VGA port, and I'm looking for the best alternative. This is because I only get a stretched picture when I connect it to the DVI port through a HDMI > DVI-adapter.
HP has an official HDMI -> VGA adapter. What's people experience with that? Perfect? Problems? I see that Envy 15 is not listed as a supported model for it, but does that matter?
Is there a way to lock the Fn function in for when I am playing a game and need to use the function keys. I keep kicking myself out of a game because on instinct I use the function keys still.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI came across an Envy, and it looked really light and cool.
The Envy 15 seems to have good specs, with the 5830 and i5's or i7's, 4 sodimms (right?) 1080p screen.
The Envy 14, however, seems to be a bit weak..
Is there a special feature in the Envy 14 that I better wait for? or, is the Envy 15 still a reasonable machine that I could aim for in my trade?
I can't really find the part that explains the refreshes of the Envy 15..
I really want to know if the Envy 14 is a different league than the Envy 15, or if they are in the similar league so that I should wait for the 14 model.
