I did set my budget to $850 but if I can get a decent notebook like this for $200 more might as well save up a little bit more.
So Dell is taking back my Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop b/c of heat issues and a complete line of stuck pixels on the screen. However, since there is nothing else on the market that I really like,
I am thinking about ordering a new one with the P8700 processor instead of the T9550. How much reduction in heat output could I expect from the P8700 and what type of performance decrease am I looking at? I read the thread below regarding the difference in the two processors but I'm more curious about the real world difference.
Also, should I opt for the 1GB of video RAM or the 512 MB version (and will the 1GB increase heat output)? I opted for the SSD option for heat reduction as well.
Dell is showing Windows 7 as the OS on Studio XPS orders now.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was very excited to order a dell vostro 1520 online, and i got a great deal on it. i ordered the laptop on the 14th of this month, and according to the email they sent me, it was supposed to be delivered by the 30th... which is pretty late but since i was getting a pretty good deal IMO, i thought "whatever, as long as its here before may 4th".
however, earlier today i got a call from dell telling me that they wont be able to build the laptop since they dont make them anymore.... ??? couldnt they have told me this EARLIER like say, LAST WEEK?
the dell vostro 1520 is STILL listed on their website (dell.com and click on small business) along with many other laptops. i dont know what to do at this point. obviously i will have to order another laptop, and it will come VERY late according to my schedules and time constraints... but which dell laptop can i order and which shouldnt i even bother with since they dont build it anymore and apparently are too lazy to update the website?
It's frustrating that still i didn't receive my Laptop which had been placed for order at 18th of Feb. the estimated date was 5th of March but today they changed it to 15th. i m sooo upset caus i placed the order at 18th thinking that i'll b having the system by 25th of Feb (previous 2 order i received within 6business days). the stupid sales man said me this as well. but ever since i placed the order i can see "Work in progress" status on the carrier website link. the order has not yet been shipped nor any tracking number given. the customer service said there is a scarcity of some parts of the machine. i also checked uk dell website. there is no more Studio1557 with i7 processor. i don't know what to do. i feel so angry with them that i might cancel the order but i need a system. is there any other laptop with i7 processor and 1gb graphics card? guys share with me with some advice. Sure, you can type in "Studio XPS 16 i7" in Google and get taken to a page from Dell where you can configure, but you can't actually get an i7 1645 starting from a Dell site.

Just got my email saying my order was delayed. It was supposed to be here today now its the 2/23. It seems like almost everyone in this forum is getting their order delayed. Dell must really be short handed or short of supply.

I was originally going to cancel my Studio 17 and said I had but decided to give it a shot. Its here now arrived today. I like it alot but I have a few questions. How can my order have been built and shipped so fast I never got any emails that it was in tested or anything. Just from In production to Shipped. Next Day Air Overnight it actually went from Nashville,TN to Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Miami, FL in 24 hours.
#1. How can I tell if I am truly running Vista 64-bit. I went to run and typed WinVer but it didn't say 64-bit. (I did order 64-bit)
#2. I got the RGB LED screen and If I look sideways at the screen edge I can see RED and green lights in there I guess thats how I verify I really got the RGB LED. But the Gamma is off my Reds look a little to pink How do I change that?
#3. I ordered the Intel 5100 Wireless-N WiFi but how can I verify its in there?

On a Side Note: the 1920x1200 Display was a mistake, I can barely see the text, and my colors are off until I fix it but Vista is such crap and confusing it hides every possible setting, Even Add Remove Programs is named differently.
I just called Dell Support to cancel my order for a Dell Studio XPS 16 notebook and they said that it could not be canceled because the system is in the final stages of production. Am I not entitled to cancel before they actually ship out the system? The rep said I have to take delivery and then call to request a refund. They have not charged my credit card yet, so could I call my bank and have them deny any forthcoming charges from Dell?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI ordered the system in my sig early morning on 3/24. At the time of the order, it was estimated to ship on 4/2 with an estimated delivery date of 4/9. When I called to check the status the next day (3/25), it stated that the order was processing. When I checked again later that night, it said it was shipped on 4/6. I checked the status again the next morning (3/26), and this time it said it was shipped on 3/28 with an updated estimated delivery date of 3/31. Now today, on the 28th, I got the 'order has shipped' email along with the FedEx tracking number. FedEx's estimated delivery date is 3/30.
Anyone have any idea why or how my order could have shipped so quickly? I never did catch it in the kitting/build/testing/boxing stages...and these stages usually take at least a few days. Could I be receiving a recently returned system that just happened to have the same specs? It seems almost unheard of to receive a new system in less than a week after ordering it...especially when considering that they are built overseas and that I picked standard 7-day shipping. Is there any way I can tell if it is a returned system?
My friends and family somewhat jokingly said maybe it's because of my previous order history. I ordered the SXPS 1645 in late November, but later ended up cancelling the order in December due to the throttling issues it was having at the time. When I cancelled the order, it was already in the build stage for a day or two. Could Dell maybe have noticed my history and "rushed" my order this time?
Dell is sending me a replacement laptop and when I check the order details, it was placed on the 19th, it says In Production. When i call to check the status, it says my order is currently being processed. Normally replacement laptops are refurbs they just pull from teh outlet store. The delivery date is also "currently not available"

How many of you have ordered the laptop from India? What is your experience?
I ordered on 13th November and got an EDD of 26th November. Called them up on 26th November and they said it will definitely come on 1st December and offered me a free blutooth headphones.
I called yesterday and today and the dell representative is not picking up her phone. Called the direct number and they said it hasn't come cause of a change in shipping address. I never once changed my shipping address.
Ordered an Inspiron 15z from Dell EPP for $678 on 12/10. Initial estimated delivery date: 12/28.
Yesterday, I noticed a small price drop ($16, lol) with the use of a coupon code, so I called up EPP customer service about the 30 day price guarantee. The rep, a nice guy from India, informed me that technically, the price guarantee was not valid with coupon codes, but he gave it to me anyway.
Today, I received a call from the same rep saying that the system was shipping out today, with an estimated delivery of 12/18...10 days earlier than originally estimated, and that I should see the price credit on my CC statement within 48 hours.
Dell just dropped the price on MY configuration on the Dell XPS 1640 laptop and upgraded some choices I found like a faster 500GB hard drive.
I want to cancel the order but they say I cannot even though it is in production when I called them on the phone.
HOW can I have them cancel it??? Is there a SPECIAL number to call? Is there some kind of special wording I have to use?
I have read the helpful Wiki page about the different stages in the "In Production" section and have called the 800 number to find out what stage I am in since I'm in the US. But every rep I talk to just tells me the same thing. It's in production and my EDD is July 8th.
I explained how I had read that there are 5 sub categories in the "In Production" section and I asked nicely if she could tell me what stage I was in. She didn't really understand what I was asking her not because of a language barrier, because while her english was accented we understood each other perfectly throughout the conversation.
