HP/Compaq :: Clean Vista And Drivers- DV5T
Jan 10, 2009
I was looking for a DV5T-1000 thread as I just ordered this laptop and want to install a fresh copy of either Vista 64-bit or Vista-32 bit, I don't care although the laptop came with 4 Gig and I know to see all 4, I need 64.
Either way, I found an older thread for XP drivers and I also know it depends on what hardware you system has, so unless someone can point me to a thread, I'm looking for the LATEST drivers and to make sure I am not missing any.
I will probably have a guy from work help me since I'm not the techiest but I'll need to tell him what to do :P (we're good at that, right? :P)
Here is what mine is coming with and I tried to assemble my best guess at drivers. The HP site helps a bit but many drivers seem older and I'm not sure I need all of them of course.

Where is the WAU, Windows Anytime Upgrade folder located in dv5t? Or there isn't any and I have to get an Anytime Upgrade disk elsewhere. For those of you who did a clean install, where did you get the installation disk?

if there was a way to do a clean install of Vista (preferably Ultimate 64-bit) on the Vaio Z and have functioning s1/s2 and speed/stamina and Wlan controls. I found the guide for 7, I was wondering if there was something like it for vista, or at least a place where i can get the drivers. My viao Z came with alot of "bloatware", and i'd like to have it snappy.

I recently performed a clean install of Vista, all the appropriate drivers have been installed (Nothing is unaccounted for in Device Manager).
HP Quickplay and Windows Media Center both recognize the TV Tuner itself, and there is static snow whenever I select the TV viewing function.
Before the clean install, the TV function worked fine. I could pick up a few channels using the included antenna, and the cable TV adapter worked as well. Now, after the clean install, I pick up no channels. I was hoping it was just poor reception, but it no longer detects cable channels through the adapter as well.

I just got a studio 1737 and want to do a clean Vista 64 Home premium install.
I was going to follow Les's guide in the main dell forum but it seems media direct 4.0 will not allow me to boot from the cd.
So I want to boot from Vista and reformat and install the OS.

THIS IS FOR WINDOWS VISTA 64-BIT ONLY
My system is VGN-AW190.
There are already a couple of "guides" floating around that describe how to install a clean copy of Windows on Sony laptops.
The process is fairly simple and involves installing certain Sony software and drivers in particular order (according to Sony).
For FW series, the guide is here: Official Vaio FW Clean Vista Install Guide
When I first installed Windows Vista Ultimate, I had no problems getting everything to work EXCEPT for the following:
1) CompactFlash (JMicron JMB368 ExpressCard CF) driver is not available on Sony's web site. When inserting the card, it does not show up as a drive in Windows Explorer. After some time playing around, I figured the following 2 ways to make it work:
a. Insert your card, go to device manager and click on "scan for hardware changes"
b. Boot Windows while the card is inserted
2) SD card slot works but is not mapped to any drive. While Ricoh MS driver automatically creates a drive, there is no driver on Sony's web site that would do the same for SD slot.
Sony's support is useless to a point where they told me that the reason why my CF cards do not show up and there is no drive mapped to the slot is because the laptop does not support cards larger than 4GB (and I have only 8GB Sandisk cards) What a joke. I finally managed to get a 2nd tier technical guy on the phone who said that Sony does not provide CF drivers and that there is nothing they can do about it..........

Trying to load XP on to the above mentioned machine. Getting BSOD within minutes of inserting the XP disc while drivers are still loading. Read through a huge thread on here about XP drivers but the seem to be talking about wanting to downgrade from Vista to XP.
Anyone know the procedure to dual boot instead of just downgrading?

I was looking to reformat my notebook and I was curious what the essential drviers are? I have Windows Vista disks so I won't be using HPs bloatware junk. I saw the thread with updated drivers but what can I ignore?
I know I will need the graphics, ethernet card, sound drivers... but what else? I want the bare minimum. I hate HP software?
Stuff like quicklaunch I can ignore right? I just need to make sure I install the quick touch button drivers right?

since I haven’t been able to find a thread listing all the latest drivers for the dv5t I've decided to make one myself. Let me be clear, this is for ADVANCED USERS ONLY.
For the average user you can find the latest drivers for your specific model at www.hp.com. This thread may contain drivers that are not specifically targetted at the HP dv5t but appear to work with it correctly. These drivers may not include vendor specific functionality that HP may have added (although I have not heard of any instances of this being so). Some of these drivers may work with other series of laptops but this is NOT guaranteed. I cannot guarantee these drivers will work correctly for everyone here so please be careful - only install these if you know how to revert any changes you have made. I am only including WHQL certified drivers, so regardless of what site they come from you know they are authentic. I've tested some of these drivers on my machine and they work perfectly well however I am unable to test everything. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Without further ado:
Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility:
Version: 9.1.1.1020
OS Support: Windows Vista, Windows 7
Link: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/down...10884&lang=eng
Notes: I recommend running the setup file from an elevated command prompt with the "-overall" flag (without quotes). This will assure that all devices are updated.....

I have a HP Dv2700 Cto Notebook with the following specifications
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1 Ghz,
3 GB RAM,
250Gb Harddisk,
GeForce 8400 Graphics Card
OS - Windows Vista Home Premium
I had followed the Steps in notebookreview.com for "Clean install of Windows Vista" and installed Vista on my Laptop 6 months back and it worked perfectly fine.
Last week, i started facing issues with Vista and the system would automatically Hibernate.
The screen would go blank automatically even while its been used.
So, i decided to clean install Vista again.
I ran the Vista setup CD and using the Vista partition utility, formatted the Primary Parition c: (i have 3 paritions).
I started the setup and after copying 66% of the files. The system automatically shut itself down.
I Had to re-start the setup.
When i restarted the setup, the setup doesnt even start copying files. it shuts down during the initializing setup screen............

I just got one of these the other day and in order to remove all the bloatware, update to SP1 and more, I went and installed a clean Vista, even backing and rhacked by pcaestoring the activation (as the thread about using ABR says).
After this, I download every single driver from the HP support page and went through installing them (of couse, the latest version of each and even other bloatware such as help files, wireless assistant, etc.). The thing is that, after everything was installed, I was still having a "yellow unknow device" in the device manager. After much thinking, I guessed that what was missing were the QuickLaunch buttons, because none of the QuickPlay buttons in the keyboard work, neither the "eject" button for the optical drive. But that QuickLaunch wasn't listed in HP drivers. All there was is a Quick Launch Security Update, but not the actual drivers!
After much searching without hope, I tried one last thing: to let windows install those drivers by searching in Windows Update. Amazingly it worked and they were installed as, efectively, the Quick Launch Buttons! But the problem is that those still don't work! The volume mute, slider, treble and bass work (but make no sound when touched, even though they are activated in the Control Panel - Quick Touch), but the QuickPlay, DVD, TV and Eject still don't work!
Also note that before even trying to use Windows Update, I went and installed every single driver (again, not drivers that were outdated to the ones in HP support and I already installed) in the SwSetup folder: still no luck. For what I read in a thread, there should be (?) a QLB folder that would have the Quick Launch Buttons? Well... I didn't had it...................

how to slipstream sata drivers onto Windows XP installation disk I decided to try it out. I had two unsuccessful attempts and I'm wondering that it probably is due to me using the wrong drivers for the job.
I have a Dv5t 1135ee, can anybody please direct me to the right drivers that I need to put onto my Windows XP installtion disk to not get a BSoD.

I have a Japanese VGN-Z90NS, and after getting it back from Japan for a minor repair, decided to put Vista Ultimate x64 on there to take advantage of my entire amount of memory.
Some may have seen this thread:
Sony Z HD install and 64bit upgrade problems
On at least the older Vaio Z series (the Z90, Z5xx in the USA, etc.), I have confirmed that the EFI thing is an issue if you try to install a slipstreamed SP1. I happen to have a genuine Vista Ultimate x64 install disc that is RTM, and it installed just fine with no EFI issues.
To get the 64-bit original Sony drivers, download them here or here.
Once you download all of the Sony drivers, download Universal extractor from here, and run it against all of the EXEs you downloaded to strip the model check.
To get the Intel 4500 graphics driver, download it here
NOTE: My Z does not have the built-in camera or fingerprint security, so you'll have to figure that out on your own. Somehow my notebook no longer has bluetooth after being fixed (looking into that ...), so that isn't in this list either. I do have one device that I can't find a driver for, and I bet it's bluetooth since everything else is fine. I'll update if I sort it all out.
Install Process that works:
1. Vista x64
2. Vista x64 service pack (if needed)
3. Intel chipset driver - reboot required
4. Intel Matrix Storage Manager (I have the RAIDed SSDs and definitely need this) - reboot required.......................

Friend recently purchased this new laptop, but it's a bit sluggish. i want to do a clean install, but of course there was no Windows Vista DVD provided. How do i create a copy of the Vista installed on this Acer laptop? Does Acer ERecovery spit out a Windows image or does it copy over all the bloat ware as well? Is it hidden in some folder like Lenovos?

i bought an acer aspire 8930G, with pre-installed vista (should be OEM) hp and a lot of useless additional software. the note is top, the thing i hate is the pre-installed os. now i want to run a clean vista installation.
reading in several forums about that, but not found the right way to do. so i have some questions.
1. is it possible to create vista installation disk (any kind of it) from data on hidden partition (or other data from the note)?
2. how the data for this disk has to look like?
i won't buy some extra disk, because i have already payed for it as buying licence!
for question nr 3 please check this...
Vista Clean Install on Acer 5520G
3. is it true what cappuchok wrote about bogus licence keys that not working with clean install?

I decided to hold off on upgrading to Windows 7 on my Studio 1555 but I wanted to perform a clean install of Vista. So I popped in the Vista installation disc that came with the computer, partitioned the hard drive, and installed Vista. Now it is up and running but with a few problems. The problems are; (1)the ethernet controller is not recognized, (2)the intergrated camera is not recognized (when I open Webcam Central is says "Please plug in a supported webcam), and (3) the displays that used to show up when using the brightness and volume function keys no longer appears. I installed all of the drivers on the drivers and utilities disc that came with the computer but these problems are still there.

Has anyone done this on an Acer laptop? I recently bought a 5515 for my parents and after seeing all the bloatware that came on it I figured I'd do a clean OS install. I backed up the CD Key using the ABR utility and backed up all the drivers. I then started the new OS install and get all the way to "completing installation" and it sits there spinning for a good 20-30 mins before it freezes. I tried the 32 bit version first followed by the 64 bit and had no luck either try. I eventually reinstalled the factory settings using the recovery disc.

I finally decided to clean install my Vaio Z21 with Vista Ultimate to be able to use the hidden 10GB of the Harddisk. Everything went quite well and I have now a clean device manager with NO remaining question marks. However I have some left-over drivers from the Sony Website for the Z21 and I was wondering which devices I would need them for
Can somebody help me out with the followoing Drivers?
All of them are of the *.inf type, so i really do not know to which device I have to attachen them to. Just right-clicking on the file and selecting 'install' does not do the trick.
1) ME Driver Intel 4.0B 4.0.0.1105
2) SOL Driver Intel 4.0B 4.0.0.1105
3) Sony HDD Protection Driver 1.3 1.3.08.04 (As I use an SSD-Drive I do not need those anyway, do I?)
4) TPM Professional Package Infineon 3.0L 3.00.1413.05
5) Windows Image File Mini-Filter Driver 6.0 SP1 6.0.6001.18000 Exe Batch
6) Wireless WAN Driver Option 4 83 1 4.0.2.32 logo
My Z21 has the follwoing configuration:
nVidia GS 8300 M with 1600x900
120GB SSD Hard Drive
4 GB RAM

I want to do a clean Vista install on the above notebook, and if the time comes, restore the setup (OS) to the default config with minimal effort. Read a lot of threads on how to do this, but just need some help/advice on the following.
Currently the HDD partitioned as:
110MB (EISA Config), FAT16 Pri
10GB, RECOVERY (D:), NTFS Pri
136GB, OS (C:), NTFS Pri Act
2.5GB MEDIADIRECT, FAT32
Discs supplied with laptop: Vista Reinstall DVD, Dell Drivers & Utilities, Roxio, Dell MediaDirect
What I want is to do a clean Vista install to the OS (C:) partition (formatting it), but still keep the other partitions in case I have to resell my notebook. My main concern is not being able to restore the factory image back to C .....

I think I have a understanding of the process. Where I am not sure is the partitioning.
- Should I completely format the hard drive first and then begin my dual booting process?
or
- When I insert my windows prof [32bit] CD will I be given the option to format the entire hard drive and create new partitions?
and lastly
What is the best way to partition drives for windows XP and Vista with a 160 gb hard drive?

I am getting my win7 upgrade disc tomorrow for my studio 1555, and I was wondering a few things before I carry out my clean install.
First, with regards to drivers, there do not seem to be drivers for everything on the dell win7 driver page (nothing for bluetooth, system utilities, etc.). I have downloaded everything relevant to my computer, but where can I find the rest of the drivers I need? Also, what order should I be installing them?
Second question is in regards to the recovery partition. Is there any point keeping it? I have heard various things about whether it will or won't work after installing windows 7
