Jan 25, 2010I have a dv5-1235dx that i wiped clean and installed Windows 7 Professional. My first round of updates took care of most drivers like scrolling and sound. My laptop has the touch sensitive button up top for volume, mute, play, pause etc.
The volume buttons work but the volume bar no longer displays on screen and it doesnt "click" as you change the volume.
I have the HP page for drivers [url] but dont know what i need. I installed HP quick launch buttons but that didnt do it.
Does anyone know which driver it is? Also which ones should i get and is there a specific way to install them or just run them?

Feb 3, 2009i bought an acer aspire 8930G, with pre-installed vista (should be OEM) hp and a lot of useless additional software. the note is top, the thing i hate is the pre-installed os. now i want to run a clean vista installation.
reading in several forums about that, but not found the right way to do. so i have some questions.
1. is it possible to create vista installation disk (any kind of it) from data on hidden partition (or other data from the note)?
2. how the data for this disk has to look like?
i won't buy some extra disk, because i have already payed for it as buying licence!

Oct 20, 2013I have a new Compaq CQ58-353EM laptop. It came with preinstalled system (Windows 8). Afterwards I installed Windows and HP updates.
The problem I have is with the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller (ethernet). In the device manager it is shown with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. In the device state it is stated: Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device. To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update. (Code 35).
Laptop has all system and hp updates installed.
I tried the following to resolve the problem:
- 2 different bios versions (F.26 and F.25).
- several add/remove/reinstall of the Realtek drivers
- 2 different versions of Realtek drivers: 8.3.730.2012 and 8.20.815.2013 (from Realtek site).
Ethernet is working OK under Ubuntu.

Nov 10, 2014Windows 8.1 kept popping up to install update. I would refuse it. Then recently it updated itself. After that, i noticed it took a little longer for my laptop to boot. It would show a blue screen for a little bit then it would boot. Yesterday, I received an error (can't remember what it said) needed to restart because of an error. I ran the Hard Disk Test and Quick and then the extensive test. it stops at one sec remaining and noting happens. I did get a fatal device hardware error. Can the update to Windows 8.1 cause this to happen?

Non of them work all of them throw error messages and I'm getting more and more irritated with the obnoxious tap to click functionality. I don't even need the driver as I need the annoying tap to click disabled and maybe some kind of scrolling functionality would be nice if it's possible.

Nov 30, 2008As I had been having a couple of minor problems with a temporary dim screen on startup and occasional screen flicker, I decided to upgrade the NVIDIA display driver on my 5920G.
Unfortunately I rather carelessly installed driver update 180.48 for a 8800 GS rather than the correct 178.24 for the 8600GT on my laptop.
It installed fully and the display still seems to be working OK (but screen flicker still there)
I am wondering whether or not it is OK to leave the 180.48 driver as it is or whether I should roll the driver upgrade back and then install 178.24.
To be honest I find installing drivers quite complicated and difficult so I would prefer to take no action unless the expert advice from members of this forum says it will cause me future problems.

Everything appears to be working fine in my win 7 installation with the exception of the video. If I install any video driver then the LCD display dim's down to <50% of its normal brightness compared to just vanilla VGA drivers. External monitor works fine.
I initially went with the official NVIDIA 186.03 driver, and this exhibited the dimming effect. I have since tried all manner of other video driver versions including laptop2go, etc and none of them work. Even had my first win7 BSOD when I installed Dell's latest Vista x64 driver .....

Apr 11, 2010I have the 9600m GT out of a 8930g installed in my Aspire 5720 laptop but every nvidia driver that I try to install says that the hardware is not compatible with the driver or some crap.
Am I out of luck with this card or is there a way to force install a driver...or is there a better driver to install?
I've tried the latest 197.16, 186.03 drivers from nvidia. Even from laptopvideo2go...no dice.

Nov 3, 2009My new W540 (11/10/2014) Lenovo Solution Center under the Check-up tab alerts me that the FaceTime HD Camera (Display) Driver is Not Installed. Such as it is, the camera, a 720P HD, works just fine. A search of resources does not uncover any comment or Driver on this issue. So, since there is no problem as near as I can determine, should I just ignore the lack of Driver issue, and if so, what is the procedure to stop the Solution Center from alerting me to this error? But if on the other hand I should install the Driver, where is that to be found?

I'm using the W540 in the Ultra Dock with video on a second monitor, an Apple monitor, using a Thunderbolt cable. There is no Thunderbolt port in the Dock, so I use the W540 port which surprised me that it works.
FWIW, it is taking me a lot of time learning the location of programs and utilities having moved from my old W510 Win 7(64) setup to the W540 Win(64) 8.1 setup.
