HP/Compaq :: DV7-1023 Takes A Long Time To Burn A DVD

I have a DV7-1023 that is less than a month old. I finally got around to burning some dvd movies from files I copied to the local hard drive. The total process time to burn a movie from start to finish takes 23 minutes at 8x speed.
On my old laptop the process time from start to finish took about 15 minutes at 6x speed.
The machine has the vista 64bit version that came with laptop. I am using Nero version 7.
Is there anything I can do to speed up my burn time?
There are no other apps running, and I tried burning right after rebooting.
It really annoys me that my new laptop, (Just a week old) when turned on takes a very long time before it starts. After the HP logo, it will show a blank page where my cursor can be moved, then it will stay a very a long time so I end up shutting it down then turning on again and again until it finally starts up. This really takes a lot of my time specially I use my laptop for work.
Just to clarify the subject, the right click that takes a long time to show up is when it's done on the desktop or when you right-click in a windows explorer folder, blank area witnothing selected (like to create a new folder or something). When you right-click, it shows the blue circular thing to sow it's tinking about it, it's loading and takes about 8 seconds to pop up after the click. Right-clicking on selected files, folders or in any other software, pops up instantly without issue.  It's a brand new Y40 laptop running windows 8.1. i7-4520U (2.00Ghz 1600MHz 4MB), AMD Radeon R9 M275 2GB, 8GB Ram, 1TB 5400 RPM,  I've updated the Radeon drivers with no improvement. It works perfectly in safe mode,
ok so I just got my new laptop for dell a few days ago and it takes a long time to come out of sleep mode is this normal? btw its a Inspiron 17 7000 Series
I was offered a replacement on my XPS 1640 on march 17. I was told i would have an order number in 7 days- ( I have not) i have chatted and called many times_) Im told my case is escalated and is being handled by exexutive escalation team... Yet i have nothing - and everytime i call they say it will be escalted ( Um it has been since day one) you going to escalte the escalate? -I just want a firm ship date and confirmation on what the model will be and added hardware..
I think my attempt to update BIOS with a "BIOS update bootable CD" method has failed!  My laptop: Lenovo Thinkpad T420, i5 @ 2.5GHz, 4 GB RAM. My old BIOS infos (taken from Setup before update attempt): UEFI BIOS Version      83ET52WW (1.22) UEFI BIOS Date (Year-Month-Day)        2011-03-24 Embedded Controller Version    83HT27WW (1.11)
I intended to update my BIOS to version 1.46 using "BIOS Update Bootable CD"Â from this link:Â [URL] .....
Steps: 1) I downloaded this ISO image: [URL] .... and burned it on a DVD-RW(DVD rewritable) medium. 2) I placed the DVD in my T420 and turned it off, then turned it on, select F12 (boot menu), selected DVD to boot from, and the BIOS update utility started. 3) In BIOS update utility I pressed "1" to read the instructions, then press "2" to update BIOS. I clicked "Y" to confirm and the update operation started. First it said " Now updating... ", then afer about 2 minutes, it said "Still updating ..." and it stuck like this.  So, right now, this message stays on my screen for about 1,5 hours(!!!):
"Still updating... It may take about a few minutes. <<< CAUTION >>> Do not turn off the computer during the update. Do not remove the CD during the update."  Other details (on system setup and current behaviour): AC was continously plugged in before&during BIOS update, battery is OK, no hard disk activity at all, keyboard is(seems) unresponsive, system's temperature is pretty high, but not dangerously high...
Ever since i've wiped the machine, i've been having these two problems. When I close the lid, it used to go to sleep straight away, but now I can see the sleep light (and the power button) flash and flash, then it goes to sleep. When waking up it goes through the lenovo startup screen and resuming windows, then it asks for a password, before I used to open the lid and it would ask me for the password straight away. I know it was going to sleep because I could hear the beep straight away when I closed and opened it, but now it just takes too long.  Also, everytime I boot up into windows or resume into windows from a sleep state, I can hear the device noise, like something is being plugged in/out. But there is nothing being plugged in or out at the time. I can't get to device manager quick enough to see what it is that is causing it. But all drivers seem okay.
Also noticed, when the lid is closed, randomly the laptop turns off (hear the beep) an then turns back off again. Â T420 model number: 4180-PR1 with OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
I bought an Inspiron 15 7000 series about a week ago. From the very beginning, the wifi is not working properly. It takes too much time to connect and also disconnects automatically frequently. Sometimes it shows only limited connectivity. I have updated the drivers but no change so far. All other devices in home are working properly.
If anyone experiencing long load times when booting up Windows 7? It takes considerably longer for me to boot Win7 than SL...
When Win7 boots, whether it be a cold boot or reboot, ill find myself hanging at a blank/black screen with nothing other than a blinking underscore in the top left corner for what seems like a minute, then it'll go to the normal "Starting Windows..." screen from there. Is a format/reinstall in order?
I got the new aluminum macbook 2.4ghz and it is taking a long time to go to sleep. I cant figure out what it is. I close my lid and the apple logo takes about 4 seconds until is shuts off and another 30 seconds until the light starts to fade in and out. I've shut the lid of another macbook at an apple shop and they go to sleep instantly.
I've had this HDX since January, and have had nothing but problems whenever i tried to burn a dvd or cd.
The version of Nero i had isnt compatible with Vista, and im not getting the new one, so it took me forever to find some free soft. I've tried Astroburner, CDburnerXP, and Infrarecorder.
Astroburner: Constantly locks up, sometimes cant even see my drive, and if i CAN get it to burn something, it never completes it. it just sits there.
CDburnerXP: Is not compatible with my drive at all, it doesnt see it.
Infrarecorder: has given me the best results, i've burnt a few data CD's, that went smoothly. But today, i wanted to burn a DVD data disc with a whole bunch of AVI's, it spun up the disc, and then just sat there at 0%, disc spinning for 1 hour. Drive was locked, program locked, couldnt end task, NOTHING.
I had to hold the power button down to get it to stop.
i'm goin on a trip and i wanted to rip some dvd's to the hard drive so i dont have to haul a bunch of dvd's and possibly break them.
any way i used DVD fab and it took for ever and it should be a bit faster its a 16x read drive so i donno whats going on, this is plugged in and everything.
mabe its the software, does any one know if a good quality free fast ripper?
HP notebook I have ever owned. Given I'll be taking this to school under the elements, how long on average can I see this GPU lasting? And if it dies under warranty, will HP fix it for sure?
For those of you who are using the 12 cell battery, how long did your battery initially last when you first got it -- and now, how does its battery life compare to how long it lasted in the beginning?
I have an HP dv5t that I bought 9 months ago. I was kind of disappointed that I only got about 3 1/2 hours from it, and now, after the 9 months, it's down to 3 hours.
I keep it plugged into my laptop at all times, even when not in use, because I like the fact that it lifts up the machine a bit, and helps with cooling. I don’t use the battery that often, (just mainly when I’m traveling). But I do make sure that I fully discharge it (use it) about once a week – as has been recommended by many posters.
So, what’s your experience with the 12 cell battery?
For a while now, my wireless has been cutting in and out and sometimes takes about a half hour to an hour to be able to connect again. Other laptops in the house connect to the same internet connection just fine. I met a girl last night who was saying how her internet wont connect anymore and she had the same laptop as me so I'm assuming its the computer and not the internet.
even before this issue though, the wireless networks window, when you click on the two computers to see the different connections, it always freezes to a white window to begin with and will take up til an hour to actually show the different connections.
This problem is incredibly annoying and i just want a solid internet connection without it cutting out .
I have an HP Pavillion dv6040 laptop, 3 years old. Today, after 3 years of nearly flawless operation, it will not start. It gives 1 long and 2 short beeps, and then nothing. The lights turn on, the fans run, but the screen remains off (black with the backlight off).
I believe it is a video problem (looked up the beeps online). The laptop has an Nvidia GeForce 7200 Graphics card.
Or does anyone know if it's possible to replace the video card in such a laptop?
While I was almost a 100% certain my next laptop would be the asus ul30jc, I just saw the folowing laptop in a local advertisement and I must say i'm tempted (being a student, I use almost all of my free money on vacation, food and alcohol so every saved € counts):
Compaq Mini 311c Intel Atam N270 (1.6ghz) 1 GB RAM 160 GB HDD Nvidia ION LE (shared memory) Wifi b/g Windows XP home (service pack3) Battery info unknown, though most sites say it has a 6 cell battery. 359€
So I have a few questions. First and most importent of all, I need to know how long the battery will last, if its +7 hours i'm content.
Second, I have no idea what kind of wifi I need, I use that white Belgacom Digital TV Router so perhaps my fellow Belgians can help me on this? When I use system information it says my wifi in my current laptop is A/G/N.
Third, will I be able to install the newest microsoft office programs (I have 2003, 2007 and will most likely buy 2010 aswell) on windows xp home?
Last but not least, will I see a big difference if I upgrade from 1gb of 2gb of ram? I noticed a big difference on my current laptop when I upgraded my ram, but since that hp compac has a very weak processor, it might be pointless since that cpu might bottleneck the effect?
I've had this computer for almost 2 years and only a handful of times have I tried to burn a CD. It will go through all the steps of burning, makes all the usual noises and such...
but what comes out is still a blank CD. What is that about? I know I need to call, but was wondering if anyone else had an idea before I had a chance to sit down and call them.
I've got an Aspire 1652WLMi laptop running Vista Home Premium but seem to have an issue with the DVD drive.
It will read and write CDs fine, it will read normal DVDs fine, it will BURN DVDRs fine. However it wont read DVDRs. Even ones its written (verified working in other PCs) come up as "blank disk" when you insert them into the laptop.
Im not sure if this is an OS problem or a drive problem.
I`ve just recived my 1557 and after 4 days of using it i can tell you this...
I HATE IT! I can`t really use it without overheating! I`m an Industrial Design student, and i use a lot PS, Solidworks, 3dMax, and various rendering engines. While using them, just after 5 o 6 minutes of rendering, the laptop overheats and turns off.
Just when it starts, core temperature rounds 73/75 degrees celcius... it reaches about 93 while rendering... and i can`t even tell when i`m gaming (i used gta san andreas for 10 minutes before ati 4570 reached 105 degrees and core about 90, then it shutted off). I`m so annoyed.... this really bothers me, in a few weeks i`ve to get back to work and university, and i have a usless "POWERFUL" machine!
I need recommendations for a new laptop, because i`m going to send thisone back next week. I don`t care if it is apple, asus, or hp, i need something wich i can really use, and i need it to be just as powerful as this (or a little less, i don`t care, as long as it really works and do de JOB).
My budget is arround 1500 US dollars.

My Dell Insipiron 1520 (lappy) with a DVD-RW combo has started to make a weird 'high pitched 'chuggy' sound whenever I turn on the laptop or when I eject or put in a disc.
Also when it starts to read something and when you tell it to write. The last time I checked, I can still read DVD game discs but trying burn a DVD just doesn't work. It doesn't think that anything's in there.
I have a Vaio Z520 that come originally with Win Vista.
Recently, I installed in Win 7 on it and everything work great except keyboard short cut to adjust screen brightness and volume control, and battery burn really quick compare to Vista.
I only can make 2 hours out of the battery before it come to fully exhausted.
Like, not worry about them feeling really hot to touch? Going by the logic that if you can feel the heat then its a good thing cause its not stuck in the case.
I'm trying to burn a CD from my Pavilion G6 notebook and when I try in iTunes I get the error message "Disk burner or software not found". I then tried in Windows Media Player, because sometimes iTunes updates do more bad than good and I recently updated iTunes. In Windows Media Player I get this message..."Connect a burner and restart the player". I've never had a problem burning music from my comp to a CD before and often do to use in my car. Why my computer suddenly stopped allowing me to make CDs.
I cant burn photos to a DVD+RW. I'm using Verbatim DVD+RW discs. When I try to burn the photos I get the message "please insert a writable/recordable  disc ". I can burn the pics onto a CD but I want to make DVD's too
I just got my new x100e laptop today, and i really like it. But, it has a problem.  I am connected to my wireless network at home, and it works properly on my other computers at house. But on the x100e, the connection drops from time to time. Suddenly, the internet is gone, but ten seconds later, the network is back up again.Â
It's not that big a problem, but it is frustrating to lose the internet from time to time. It happens from every 5 minutes to once 30 minutes.Â
I notice that this problem has happened to some people... What is wrong with my DVD burner?
I also got the same problem with my TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D I'm using laptop Dell inspiron E1505.
The thing is, I can read cd/dvd from it, but not burn/write. I'm using nero to burn the disc and the progress will succeed but when I try to use the disc, it will show as an empty disc.
I've upgraded the driver from dell's site, still no luck tho
