View 9 RepliesMy wife got this HP G60-120us notebook computer. It's about two years old now. I'm planning on getting her a new laptop so I can get this one. The only thing that I really do not like about this laptop is the freakin mouse button. It's so loud and clicks so loud as well. What I'm using now is my old Dell laptop and I love the mouse button so quiet and smooth unlike the HP. Is there anyway to make this sound quiet? Like open it up and spray some WD-40? J/K, is all HP's like this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSeveral weeks ago I replaced the power socket on my dv6500t because I had to pull the power cord in a certain directions. (see the thread here: dv6500 Power problem) For a few days it seemed to help although I moving the laptop in a few directions still cased the AC power to cut out.
Now after a bunch of weeks, it's back to where it was before. i.e. I have to pull the cord in basically one of two directions to get AC power. I'm assuming with these symptoms either the power socket on my laptop is screwed up again or there is something wrong with my power cord. Could it be anything else?
At this point, I feel like it's probably the power cord, but I don't want to pony up 150$ only to find out I'm wrong. I could send it into HP for them to fix it. It's a nice machine (core2 2.4ghz, 4 gb ram, etc)
I actually have a Alienware but my baby has a Pavillion DV6 1100SO.
It's working ok, but it get so so hot! and for sure the fan are really hectics
There are something to do, one can of trick, fix or something? I'm going to buy her a fan dock, like antec, etc...
I'm thinking maybe to remove the cloth from the vento holes, the one that protect it from dust. I did it with my Alienware and it works.
Realizing that my computer is now a little over 2.5 years old, I had a little time to think about whether I should even think about going over to a brand new notebook. Given the specs of new notebooks these days (and a lot of people know here that I spend quite a bit of time at the HP website/FTP), I was wondering what everyone here thinks about me going for a Quad Edition notebook.
In case you're wondering, I use my dv6500t notebook extensively mainly because I am a UCSD Computer Science/Engineering student who does a lot of activities on the computer both casually and for work, for a good portion of the day, everyday. If I get a new notebook, I plan on using it extensively as well.
The specifications for the dv6500t that I currently use is listed in my sig. It additionally has a 12-cell battery which at this moment can only charge up to 58%, and a rather broken left TouchPad button. Warranty is pretty shot at this point, since I had the 1-year standard (which I have no regrets with).
Now, the Quad Edition notebook that I was specifically looking at was the pre-customized HP Pavilion dv6-2190us notebook:...........
i bought the adequate memory, but now i don't know how to put it into the laptop... there are two panels... and a battery space
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been following the thread below, but so far have not found the key to recovering from a failed BIOS update on my dv6500t laptop:
CQ45- Insyde BIOS RECOVERY using a USB THUMBDRIVE
I can press Windows-B upon bootup and I hear a single beep followed by the USB floppy spinning up briefly. Note that if I turn on the computer without pressing those keys there is no activity or sound, so I think I'm on the right path towards a BIOS recovery.
The problem is (I believe), I don't know what filename the recovery process is looking for.
I've tried: BIOS.BIN, BIOS.ROM, BIOS.WPF
Also: 30CC.WPH, 30CC.BIN, 30CC.ROM, as well as 30CCF58.WPH.
I've tried this process with a USB flash drive and an SD card, but only the USB floppy drive gives me the feedback that file activity is actually happening (this means that I don't have enough disk space to try 50 copies of the same file with different name combinations).
My HP dv6500t doesn't return from standby and/or randomly crashes when I have my 2x2GB 800MHz OCZ RAM installed. I'm not sure if it's the size (4GB) or speed (800MHz) that is the issue, but it's something, so I need to make a change.
Which of the following RAM configurations would be better/faster? I don't get errors configured with them.
1x2GB 800MHz (single channel)
2x1GB 667Mhz (dual channel)
I need a notebook for outside in the sun use. Between 14"-16" that has a very BRIGHT screen. I've tried the Envy 15 w/Matte and it's too dim. Would you recommend the new EliteBook 8540w or 8440w? Do these have really bright screens that are good for outside use? I need good battery life too.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI got my dv6500t with an 8400GS card to output to my 1080p HDTV but the problem is that the image that displays on the TV is only 90% of the full image as shown on my laptop.
This is via HDMI.
I'd like the images on both laptop and HDTV to match perfectly and I've tried every combination of resolution between the TV and the laptop yet I always get the same result: a fully displayed desktop on my laptop and a cropped desktop on my HDTV.
I'm getting a strange problem on my dv6500t with my dual booted Windows 7 RC install (same issue with the Beta). My searches have been inconclusive.
Using W7 as one user is fine, but if I leave one user logged in and switch user accounts, things start acting wierd...Anti-virus fails to start (I've uninstalled AV and the rest still occur)Can't use the IE button on the task barIE doesn't log in to some websites (e.g. AOL mail)slowness Lots of permanent window and menu artifact ghosting that only clears after logging out This only happens when 2 users are logged in at one time... one user works just dandy.
I'm just suspicious of my HP... the friggen thing crashes on me enough or doesn't resume from hibernate/sleep so I'm not confident in the crap.
A friend of mine has an HP Pavilion ze4420us laptop and seems to have a problem. When his computer starts up the screen is reduced in size so that all you can see is a 6"x6" area that's using the screen. Everything is displayed normally inside this "box". Once windows loads it's fine though.
some manufactures have a "Fn+key" or "shift+key" type of shortcut that will change an internal setting and enlarge or reduce the picture being displayed.
Today i upgraded my dv6500t again. This time i put in an OEM t8300. After putting it in the bios reads it and it runs fine ( Im on it right now ). Anyways i will be using it and it idle's nicely at 40*C to 50*C but randomly it will jump to 83*C for core 1 and 97*C for core 2 the fans will spin full speed then it will drop down right back to normal. Anyone have any idea i am running the most up to date bios F.59.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhy Do I Keep Hearing This Loud Bell
I keep hearing this loud bell at 8 am and 8 pm.
I am running WindowsVista on an HP Pavillion DV9700
laptop.
Is this a software or hardware issue and how do I turn the darn thing off? It's so loud that if I'm concentrating on something else it's startles the heck out of everyone in the room.
My HP DV2000 yesterday started making a mind-numbingly loud buzzing noise (I have been using earplugs) as soon as it was turned on. From my research, the best I can tell is that it's being caused by a loose or faulty speaker cable. I've tried all of the obvious software fixes (drivers, system restore, muting, etc.) and nothing affects the noise. If I pull out the power cable, the pitch lowers, which I assume is because of the reduced power coming from the battery versus the power cable.
I have a reasonable amount of mechanical aptitude and have performed a number of hardware repairs on desktop computers. Does anyone know if detaching the speaker cable (if that's the solution) would be a simple enough thing to do, or should I just not even try, and take it to a professional? I've looked at the maintenance and repair manual, and it does look like a fair amount of work...
Here is the solution: [url]

View 10 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to replace the Super-Drive on the MBP 13" (2010) with another hard-drive?
I rarely use the DVD drive so it would be cool if I could replace it with another hard-drive to store data in.
Laptop: DV6563cl (Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, 3GB RAM, 500GB/7200, 15.4 inch, Win 7 RC 64bit, 128MB 8400m GS)
I recently bought a 500GB/7200 RPM hard drive to my laptop and I decided to install Windows RC 64 bit. Before doing the hard drive update, I had installed the 7 RC 32 bit since it came out.
Now, I can't recall when I had the 7 RC 32bit that the laptop's fan was running on full blast after sleep/stand-by. It is also loud when you start-up the computer from a restart or after a shut-down. The fan speeds down to a quiet speed/rpm after...I'd say 2-3 minutes.
I installed everything listed on HP's website for my laptop (drivers and such after installing 7 RC 64bit):

I noticed that the Nvidia driver on HP's website was not a recent one, so I hopped on Nvidia's website to get a newer driver instead (186.03 I believe).
I have my laptop set to Power saving's mode and I only bump it to Balanced when I'm doing something heavy (like iTunes encoding, etc).
I did check to see if maybe my anti-virus program that's installed (avast...AVG didn't install when I went to 64) was doing scans or such, but it isn't. Well, actually I take that back...does avast do a very slow/quiet scan in the background? I see the HDD status light blinks steady, but when I pause avast, there is not steady blinking.

When I try to play (not only WD also "americas army proving grounds" but its not the point) without ac [lugged in the game is super slow!
Another point:
ac plugged in -> fan works fast.
ac not plugged in -> fan works a lot slower
How can i change settings so i can play without AC plugged in?
Tip #1 - M1730 is not a "Lap" top. Too hot for a human lap. It may have been tested on a Gorilla's lap - as long as the fur has been pre-treated.
There have been so many communications (useless) with dell aggravation team (I mean escalation team) and a house call.
Laptop is on and plugged into the docking station which is "powered". Connection to monitor / keyboard and mouse is fine, however I'm surprised to see a lower power - plug is soon message. Isn't docking station supposed to provide power to the laptop?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI have a VPCF11S1E and yesterday I left my vaio on without being plugged in, so it put himself 'asleep'. I couldn't turn him on but did the battery out-holding-on-button-plug-in-push-on-battery-in-trick and it worked. But since then I have a major problem.
My fan is going crazy and it seems like I have over 9000 programs on ( ).
From when i completely shut of my vaio, my fan starts (loudly) when I hit the log-in page and never stops until I shut it off or put him in standby,
when I start my vaio from standby, it takes +30 seconds before my fan starts again loudly. It keeps blowing loudly even when I don't run any programs
Is anyone else experiencing real high fan noise while playing a game? Even with the sound on it's clearly hearable and really annoying and continues going.
As soon as I exit the game it's over, so it probably involves temp & CPU clock. My temps are about ~70C when I exit
The CPU temp is 60 C
The noise level is really high, not that high- but enough to annoy you if you work a lot with your laptop.
And that's when I'm doing almost nothing. Its starting right after booting the laptop.
i have an m1330 with nvidia graphic card for 6 months. my laptop used to run super quiet but lately the fan is almost always on... even on idle.
