HP/Compaq :: Constant LOUD Speaker Buzz
Sep 30, 2009
My HP DV2000 yesterday started making a mind-numbingly loud buzzing noise (I have been using earplugs) as soon as it was turned on. From my research, the best I can tell is that it's being caused by a loose or faulty speaker cable. I've tried all of the obvious software fixes (drivers, system restore, muting, etc.) and nothing affects the noise. If I pull out the power cable, the pitch lowers, which I assume is because of the reduced power coming from the battery versus the power cable.
I have a reasonable amount of mechanical aptitude and have performed a number of hardware repairs on desktop computers. Does anyone know if detaching the speaker cable (if that's the solution) would be a simple enough thing to do, or should I just not even try, and take it to a professional? I've looked at the maintenance and repair manual, and it does look like a fair amount of work...

I have a set of 6 new T440s laptops along with Ultradocks. I ordered 2 sets of 3, with a month inbetween. I am having a problem where all of my Ultradocks produce a very loud buzzing noise from the connected speakers whenever the laptop is turned off or undocked. If the laptop is docked and powered on, everything sounds fine. I have contacted support and they are sending me a replacement dock, but since the issue is so consistent and effects all my docks.

The max volume from software is very quiet. I am using Microsoft Autoroute for navigation and the turn by turn is so quiet that I have to plug in an external speaker. In the Text to Talk settings the default voice - Anna - is loud enough reading the sample text, but from the software is v quiet. Windows sounds are also quiet.System is Win 7 Starter and I have installed the latest Realtek audio drivers from the Acer website.

My wife got this HP G60-120us notebook computer. It's about two years old now. I'm planning on getting her a new laptop so I can get this one. The only thing that I really do not like about this laptop is the freakin mouse button. It's so loud and clicks so loud as well. What I'm using now is my old Dell laptop and I love the mouse button so quiet and smooth unlike the HP. Is there anyway to make this sound quiet? Like open it up and spray some WD-40? J/K, is all HP's like this?

The right speaker in my notebook is louder then the left one is. The only way to compensate for the problem is to lower the "balance" in the sound properties for the right speaker (I have it all the way down to 70 if you can believe that!) Now my audio sounds even between the left and right speaker. I think it's ashame that seems to be the only fix for the problem. Not sure if this is a driver issue or a hardware issue.
NVidia installs audio drivers to the computer when installing the video drivers (which I still don't understand why...I thought NVidia was a graphics company?) Then I install the IDT drivers/software afterwards. HP has verified that this is correct so everything on my end is up to date...minus of course offical drivers for the 320M video card that everyone is still waiting on!

my hp G60-104CA laptop that as soon as I turn it on and I'm talking about the bios startup my speakers will begin to make a thumping sound and I seriously can't figure out what's going on I did a few google searches but nothing came up with my situation maybe I'm searching the wrong way but I'd appreciate any help of possible and hopefully this information helps :
it's running windows 7 just got it back from HP For replacement of the fan and heatsink had it for about 2 weeks since than nothing was wrong till about 20 mins ago
I've also tried plugging in headphones to see if the thumping would stop but no that didn't Change anything Also the thumps don't seem to ever stop they're just a constant beat ever like half a second
I knew that even disabling the audio devices wouldn't help but I tried that as well and my router is no where close to my laptop it's two floors away and i've also tried disabling the wifi as well nothing

I've been listening to a bunch of podcasts on my laptop lately and realized that the right hand side speaker is MUCH louder than my than the left speaker, in fact if I lower the balance on the right speaker to 0% and left to 100% it's not half as loud as the right at 100%. Is this normal? If not is there a fix for this?
Also when typing, if I press the Caps lock key too fast the cursor disappears and my typing is interrupted anyone know is up with that?

if you're having problems with the speakers on the dm3. I want you to go to hp's website and update the "bios" its very easy to update it. Just type in the model of you're dm3 and click on drivers, and then click on the correct operating system you have.
Make sure you specify if its 32 bit or 64 bit. Then click on the bios update half way down the page and update it. Then I want you to shut down you're dm3 completely. Once its shut down turn it back on and start hitting the "f-10" key on top of you're keyboard.
Keep hitting it until you see it enter a page that is all text, the bios page. This page will not look like a normal page that you're used to and your mouse will not be active. if it asks you to exit say no. Once you are on this page start to hit any of the letter
keys(example- hyfwgsldi, anyone) to produce a beeping sound from your laptop. Now, Pick up your laptop and place the speaker very close to you're ear and listen very carefully if sound is coming out of both sides. There should be sound coming from the left and the right side of the speakers. Now if there is sound only coming from the left side then I have confirmed with a hp level 2 tech that its a hardware problem. This is what is wrong with mine. Either the factory forgot to connect the wires the right side for the speakers or the speaker company messed something up. At this point no software or driver will fix the problem and you need to send you're dm3 in for service or exchange it for another one. Please trust me on this as I spent close to 30 hours and 7 days on the phone with HP.

I have not been able to use my webcam to talk to friends through ooVoo. I was going to post in the ooVoo forums, but someone with my same problem posted earlier this week and there was no response. When I connect and am in a call, my video and audio do not show up, and I am not able to hear my friends but I can see them. I tested to see if the Video function works on Facebook, and the audio and video worked without any problems. Device Manager does not show any errors.
I am on P7350, 4GB RAM, 9600m GT, 250GB HD.

Why Do I Keep Hearing This Loud Bell
I keep hearing this loud bell at 8 am and 8 pm.
I am running WindowsVista on an HP Pavillion DV9700
laptop.
Is this a software or hardware issue and how do I turn the darn thing off? It's so loud that if I'm concentrating on something else it's startles the heck out of everyone in the room.

I just got an HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop a few days ago and everything is great, except for this static noise coming from the speaker. It kind of sounds like when you have your TV on a blank screen, but you have the volume as high as it goes. Every now and then there's a little pop or crack sound too. Some important things to note:
- It was a refurb
- The noise immediately stops when the volume is muted
- All drivers are up to date
- If I go into the volume settings, I can slide the volume all the way over to the right side, and the noise stops, but any amount of volume going through the left side and the noise is back
- The noise is the same at any volume level
- If I plug in headphones, there is no noise through the headphones, it only happens on the speakers
At first I thought it wasn't anything big, just a driver update or just a matter of breaking the laptop in, but now after a few days it's starting to get annoying. I don't want to leave the sound on mute all the time, and even when I am listening to audio I can still hear this noise.

I recently purchased a new dv7t-3000. I replaced the internal hard drive with an Intel X-25M 160GB SSD and re-installed Windows 7.
I'm writing because I'm hearing an annoying noise coming from the subwoofer. It sounds like induced RF noise. I hear the noise regardless of whether the speakers are muted or not. I've also disabled or muted all the audio recording devices, but no change.
It basically sounds like radio frequency noise, probably induced from some other component in the laptop whose leads run close to or over the speaker wire for the subwoofer.

I have a HP Pavillion TX2110US Laptop and I have started to get some loud clicking noises from the speakers when the screen is at certain angles. I don't find these laptop speakers to be thrilling so I wouldn't mind losing/disconnecting them. And I know it's not windows making the racket because I uninstalled the sound card and it still did it, and I also tried it at every percentage volume too, but to no avail.
I took off the battery and disconnected the big plug underneath the little cover that's under the battery (I think it's called the "display assembly connector" or something like that) and I got the noise to stop. The problem is that I don't want to lose the built in microphone, fingerprint reader and any other functionality that the rest of the non-speaker wires do.
So my question is, which wires go to the speakers (preferably the right speaker since it seems to be the culprit) so I could cut those and leave the rest of the plug intact?
I counted 16 wires and I know that all the speakers that I'm familiar with have 2 wires per speaker minimum and I know that it won't work with out both so ideally I would just want to cut 1 wire to the right speaker. So does anyone have a wiring diagram or could explain which wires go to which speaker?

On my HP DV5-1015TX I notice that there are 2 audio out jacks in the front.
However my speakers have only connector that I plug into either one of these. This works but I am am wondering if there would be any loss of audio quality when used this way (maybe surrond sound or something)? OR is the second audio-out an extra connection to say headphones?

I just recently picked up my new DV7, wiped the drive and re-installed Vista Ultimate x64. The machine itself runs great, but after installing all the drivers and the most recent bios, I hit a strange snag- I have my right channel speaker, works fine. But my left channel isn't coming out the left speaker, but out through the subwoofer. I've tried uninstalling the IDT codec and letting Vista use it's own driver, same deal. Re-installed IDT, same deal. I get no sound at all through the left speaker, and Vista only recognizes me as having 2 speakers.

Been recently having a problem with my M1730. On occasion my screen has been making a buzzing noise, accompanied by a major lag spike (this seems to be more frequent when I play games, but it still seldom happens when I'm not).
I don't believe that this problem happened -BEFORE- enabling SLI after installing Windows 7 (but with SLI off my FPS isn't so good).
I'm wondering if anyone knows what the problem might be? It's very troublesome, and I am desperately searching for a remedy. I have all my drivers and what not up to date. Has anyone run into this problem? Anyone know what it might be?

Laptop: DV6563cl (Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, 3GB RAM, 500GB/7200, 15.4 inch, Win 7 RC 64bit, 128MB 8400m GS)
I recently bought a 500GB/7200 RPM hard drive to my laptop and I decided to install Windows RC 64 bit. Before doing the hard drive update, I had installed the 7 RC 32 bit since it came out.
Now, I can't recall when I had the 7 RC 32bit that the laptop's fan was running on full blast after sleep/stand-by. It is also loud when you start-up the computer from a restart or after a shut-down. The fan speeds down to a quiet speed/rpm after...I'd say 2-3 minutes.
I installed everything listed on HP's website for my laptop (drivers and such after installing 7 RC 64bit):
[url]
I noticed that the Nvidia driver on HP's website was not a recent one, so I hopped on Nvidia's website to get a newer driver instead (186.03 I believe).
I have my laptop set to Power saving's mode and I only bump it to Balanced when I'm doing something heavy (like iTunes encoding, etc).
I did check to see if maybe my anti-virus program that's installed (avast...AVG didn't install when I went to 64) was doing scans or such, but it isn't. Well, actually I take that back...does avast do a very slow/quiet scan in the background? I see the HDD status light blinks steady, but when I pause avast, there is not steady blinking.

I have a Dell Studio 1558 and I have some concern about my power brick. The brick itself makes a light sizzling, buzzing or light crunchy noise which isn't continuous, but is causing me concern. The computer itself, also makes a similar noise when doing stuff like scrolling down a page in an internet browser. Every time I press the down arrow and it loads new images, it makes a brief sizzling noise.
When my computer was brand new I brought this up with tech-support and they gave me a new power brick but the noise never went away. I took a day off work to stay at home and waited for a tech to come to my house so I haven't complained about it since then. It seems to be an intermittent issue, some days its worse than others, and I've had this computer for about 2-3 years now.
Have there been any recalls on the power supplies for my computer? Aside from making a noise, I haven't noticed any decline in my computers performance, I'm just worried about it shocking me or frying some of the components inside the computer!

Hardware:
Dell Inspiron 9400
CPU: Intel Centrino Duo T2400 1.8ghz
Ram: 2gb
Video: geforce go 9700 gs
Audio: Sigmatel?
HD: Seagate 80gb 7200 rpm
Problem: I was using my typing a word document when all of the sudden a pattern of yellow distortion came accross the screen and windows frooze. I tried rebooting windows but even the splash screen that came up right after you turn the computer on is distorted, during startup every image is distorted somehow including the windows splash screen and all shown dos screens(random characters all over the place in dos). It won't boot into windows normally, it gives a blue error screen and then restarts but it will go into safemode (with distortion of course). I tried plugging into two different crt monitors to see if it was a problem with the monitor but they displayed "Signal out of range." I plugged into an LCD monitor and it would display the image but still showed a "Signal out of range." box bouncing around even though it was showing windows in safe mode (still distorted.) I have never seen this problem before. I booted from an xp cd and did a fixboot comand but it still won't boot into windows normal. I uninstalled the video drivers in safemode which would then allow me to boot into windows but I still had the distortion. I reflashed the mobo bios. (nothing changed) Reinstalling the drivers would cause it to crash and then not allow me to boot into anything but safemode unless I uninstalled the drivers. The problem went away completely for about a day and I was able to install the drivers again and everything was working fine but later it happened again. I noticed that while the computer is having the problem hibernation is impossible (doesn't show the option anywhere). I tried replacing the video card (most obvious culprit at this point) and that didn't even work! I'm thinking it needs a new motherboard entirely.
