View 4 RepliesSeveral weeks ago I replaced the power socket on my dv6500t because I had to pull the power cord in a certain directions. (see the thread here: dv6500 Power problem) For a few days it seemed to help although I moving the laptop in a few directions still cased the AC power to cut out.
Now after a bunch of weeks, it's back to where it was before. i.e. I have to pull the cord in basically one of two directions to get AC power. I'm assuming with these symptoms either the power socket on my laptop is screwed up again or there is something wrong with my power cord. Could it be anything else?
At this point, I feel like it's probably the power cord, but I don't want to pony up 150$ only to find out I'm wrong. I could send it into HP for them to fix it. It's a nice machine (core2 2.4ghz, 4 gb ram, etc)
Realizing that my computer is now a little over 2.5 years old, I had a little time to think about whether I should even think about going over to a brand new notebook. Given the specs of new notebooks these days (and a lot of people know here that I spend quite a bit of time at the HP website/FTP), I was wondering what everyone here thinks about me going for a Quad Edition notebook.
In case you're wondering, I use my dv6500t notebook extensively mainly because I am a UCSD Computer Science/Engineering student who does a lot of activities on the computer both casually and for work, for a good portion of the day, everyday. If I get a new notebook, I plan on using it extensively as well.
The specifications for the dv6500t that I currently use is listed in my sig. It additionally has a 12-cell battery which at this moment can only charge up to 58%, and a rather broken left TouchPad button. Warranty is pretty shot at this point, since I had the 1-year standard (which I have no regrets with).
Now, the Quad Edition notebook that I was specifically looking at was the pre-customized HP Pavilion dv6-2190us notebook:...........
How can I calm my fan down? I have a dv6500t
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been following the thread below, but so far have not found the key to recovering from a failed BIOS update on my dv6500t laptop:
CQ45- Insyde BIOS RECOVERY using a USB THUMBDRIVE
I can press Windows-B upon bootup and I hear a single beep followed by the USB floppy spinning up briefly. Note that if I turn on the computer without pressing those keys there is no activity or sound, so I think I'm on the right path towards a BIOS recovery.
The problem is (I believe), I don't know what filename the recovery process is looking for.
I've tried: BIOS.BIN, BIOS.ROM, BIOS.WPF
Also: 30CC.WPH, 30CC.BIN, 30CC.ROM, as well as 30CCF58.WPH.
I've tried this process with a USB flash drive and an SD card, but only the USB floppy drive gives me the feedback that file activity is actually happening (this means that I don't have enough disk space to try 50 copies of the same file with different name combinations).
My HP dv6500t doesn't return from standby and/or randomly crashes when I have my 2x2GB 800MHz OCZ RAM installed. I'm not sure if it's the size (4GB) or speed (800MHz) that is the issue, but it's something, so I need to make a change.
Which of the following RAM configurations would be better/faster? I don't get errors configured with them.
1x2GB 800MHz (single channel)
2x1GB 667Mhz (dual channel)
I got my dv6500t with an 8400GS card to output to my 1080p HDTV but the problem is that the image that displays on the TV is only 90% of the full image as shown on my laptop.
This is via HDMI.
I'd like the images on both laptop and HDTV to match perfectly and I've tried every combination of resolution between the TV and the laptop yet I always get the same result: a fully displayed desktop on my laptop and a cropped desktop on my HDTV.
I'm getting a strange problem on my dv6500t with my dual booted Windows 7 RC install (same issue with the Beta). My searches have been inconclusive.
Using W7 as one user is fine, but if I leave one user logged in and switch user accounts, things start acting wierd...Anti-virus fails to start (I've uninstalled AV and the rest still occur)Can't use the IE button on the task barIE doesn't log in to some websites (e.g. AOL mail)slowness Lots of permanent window and menu artifact ghosting that only clears after logging out This only happens when 2 users are logged in at one time... one user works just dandy.
I'm just suspicious of my HP... the friggen thing crashes on me enough or doesn't resume from hibernate/sleep so I'm not confident in the crap.
Today i upgraded my dv6500t again. This time i put in an OEM t8300. After putting it in the bios reads it and it runs fine ( Im on it right now ). Anyways i will be using it and it idle's nicely at 40*C to 50*C but randomly it will jump to 83*C for core 1 and 97*C for core 2 the fans will spin full speed then it will drop down right back to normal. Anyone have any idea i am running the most up to date bios F.59.

I recently recieved HP dv5-1119nr as a gift for Christmas. It has a Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit OS. I am a DJ and Use Numarks Virtual Vinyl audio Interface which is for my turntables. I have no complaints with the notebook. Unfortunately, the interface is not compatible with 64-Bit, and according to Numark may not be anytime soon. I had a friend upload his Vista 32-Bit OS for me to download, as a matter of fact he sent me two to choose from. I have (frustratingly) tried multple times to burn and re-install a 32-Bit system. I have tried using Cyberlink DVD Suite to save the .iso file (I understand that). It shows up looking like a winrar file, but in properties it does say .iso. Once burn is finished I try to reboot. Under BIOS, CD Drive is enabled and first. But it doesn't Boot! Upon looking at the disc it shows 2 files; BOOTCTG.BIN and BOOTIMG.BIN. What am I doing wrong?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust bought a new 2.5 HDD for my laptop. It's suppose to arrive tomorrow and I thought I'd get on the front side of the installation. Is there anything I should be knowing beyond a simple 'unscrew the bay cover on the bottom of the dv7, unscrew and remove the old drive, unscrew the old drive from the caddy, screw the new drive into the caddy, place the new drive/caddy assembly into the same bay, push the assembly into the connector slot, screw the caddy down, button up the dv7, and do a clean install of Windows 7'? I've been told that I may have to do some special type of reformatting before initial and first use of the new drive or else it may not work properly. Is this true?
I've also heard that some BIOS adjustments might allow me to use both the old and new drives,... true? Will using a 7200 rpm drive in one bay along with a 5400 rpm drive in the second bay cause problems? If not, should I dedicate the faster drive to holding data or elect for it to be the boot drive?
I've tried finding something on HP's site with very little success.
I have this Laptop, HP ZV5000 (P4 3.06 Ghz,512DDR, Ati mobility 9100,broken screen but using an LCD monitor
I want to know if I can install Win 7 without much problem. But I want to use the LCD monitor and the video conector (S-Video) at the same time. With the latest driver of Ati (from HP) , I can't use both at the same time.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion dv6 1125ee that comes with windows vista,
I want to install XP on it but some people told me it's imposible because dv6 doesn't have xp drivers ?
If there is anyway i can install XP on it with all drivers I would be thankful if u post it here .
is there any way I can re-claim Vista's recovery partition.
When I try to install XP, I can only see the one ~ 130 GB partition - which I cannot delete (?!?!) and then I guess I am missing the ~ 90 GB recovery partition.
What do I need to do so that I wipe everything out and do my partitions as I like and install XP ?
my system is a dv2000, AMD; if you need any other info, I'll try to get them, however, the system is not booting now (that's why I want to re-install the OS)
I'm trying to install XP on my machine after I fried old HD that had W7 installation. I bought new HD but i only have XP CD so i figured I'll install XP so far to get the PC up and ruining, and upgrade to W7 once i find by back-up CD.
My new HD is picked up by machine, and CD starts with installation, copying files from the CD, but only up to the point where it is supposed to start with windows installation.
At that point I get blue screen and message telling me i do not have HD or it is incorrectly installed and that I should run check disk. I've run BIOS scan, and HD is present and scans OK. Is it possible that previous install of W7 is memorized somewhere in BIOS and it is not allowing me to install XP even though HD is blank and brand new?
janay do
I tried to install Windows XP sp3 in it.. since the dvd-drive of CQ60-100EE had problems, i removed the Hard disk > fixed it in my other laptop and installed XP > then fixed the HDD back to CQ60-100EE.. now when i switched on the laptop, a blue screen appears after Windows XP boot screen.. and then the laptop restarts.. (the blue screen appears just for a fraction of second..) , the laptop starts normally in SAFE MODE.. no blue screen appears while it is starting in safe mode.. Also i have difficulty in finding XP drivers for CQ60-100EE..
Does anyone know if it's relatively easy to install your own SSD into a 2140...I like everything about it except the $575 charge for upgrading the drive to an 80GB SSD.
Having said that I don't need anywhere close to that much storage, even a 16GB would probably be enough for me and Newegg has them for
I am awaiting the arrival of my new DV7T (configuration to follow) and would like to know if anyone has successfully installed XP on theirs and if so, what problems, if any, did you encounter?

How to install XP?
I used 4 different installation discs ...
In alls, show error memory dump ... blue screen ...
A friend just showed me his new Dell Vostro lappy. He has 4 GB of DDR2 800mhz memory on it when compared to my 4 GB of DDR2 667mhz memory on my XPS 1530
However, under his windows experience score - he gets 5.9 score for memory operations while I just get a 5.1. I can't believe that a couple of hundred mhz can result in such a drastic difference.
Is there something optimized for his system but not for mine?
I have a problem installing xp64 on my notebook (dv7 3020ed).
The system is provided with windows 7 x64 but i don't like the OS, allso it has a lot of HP junk installed on it, witch im not planning to use.
I'm using this pc for my work when im not at the office.
(webdesign e.d.)
Now i have tried to install xp x64, but i couldn't find a sata driver, i tried to set ahci to ide but the bios does not allow to change the settings.
I have tried it with an other hp raid driver on a floppy but it didn't fix my problems..
I would realy like to fix it, because i bought xp x64 and i can't reinstall windows 7 because it is pre installed.. so i have no CD.
Sure i could delete the programs, but i want a clean install.
I have an HP dv5t which I purchased new last October. A couple of weeks ago, my HD got fried (think it overheated). HP sent me a new HD, and I had a technician install it for me. I never made recovery disks as instructed by HP (was gonna get around to it; who knew the HD would die in 9 mos?). The tech ended up installing Vista Ultimate Lite instead, which I thought was okay b/c there's no bloatware that way. However, I miss a lot of the elements of the Aero environment, particularly Windows DVD Maker.
I have two questions:
1. Can I get backup CDs from HP to reinstall Vista Home Premium (which is what my lappie was shipped with)? Would doing so reinstall the bloatware?
2. Is there a way to tweak Vista Ultimate Lite so I can have the standard GUI w/o putting bloatware back in my system? The environment in Ultimate Lite reminds me too much of XP (clunky-looking windows, fonts are too large, etc).
The HDX18 is now being offered with a 160gb SSD + a 500gb HDD 5400 option. HP won't disclose which SSDs are being installed. If anyone has one of these units,
Also, an HP rep told me that the OS is being installed on the HDD (which is a silly thing to do) rather than the SSD at the factory.
i tried to install win xp on dv5t but after the installation finished and windows started for the first time, a blue screen appears for about a micro second and then the laptop restarts. i did include sata drivers while making the bootable cd for win xp.can any one send me a complete procedure to install win xp on dv5t-1000 model

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a used Elitebook 8540w with i7 quad core and four memory slots (I love it!). It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional It came with one 4gb memory module and I purchased an additional 4gb module to bring total RAM to 8gb.
I have the HP document that shows for two 4gb memory modules, one should be in memory slot 1 and the other in memory slot 3 for correct functioning of dual channel memory. All set right?
Not quite. In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2" However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2" Opps! There is no "3" and there is no "4" In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?
i having the Acer TravelMate 6493, originally it have 2GB of Memory. Recently, i have addin additional 2GB, mean that currently the system is having 4GB of Memory.
in the BIOS, showing the system is installed with 4GB of Memory, but when come into the windows, it show 4GB installed (2.90GB Usable) .....
Im looking at getting the P7350 with 2 gigs ram and 9600gt or the p8400 with 2 gigs and 9600gt. The price difference is 40$..is it worth it?? Or should I just save the 40$ and upgrade to 4gigs with the 7350? Both use 64 bit vista.
