Dell :: Memory Speed Affecting Windows Experience (memory Operations)
Oct 13, 2008A friend just showed me his new Dell Vostro lappy. He has 4 GB of DDR2 800mhz memory on it when compared to my 4 GB of DDR2 667mhz memory on my XPS 1530
However, under his windows experience score - he gets 5.9 score for memory operations while I just get a 5.1. I can't believe that a couple of hundred mhz can result in such a drastic difference.
Is there something optimized for his system but not for mine?

Jan 12, 2015I just purchased a used Elitebook 8540w with i7 quad core and four memory slots (I love it!).  It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional  It came with one 4gb memory module and I purchased an additional 4gb module to bring total RAM to 8gb. Â

I have the HP document that shows for two 4gb memory modules, one should be in memory slot 1 and the other in memory slot 3 for correct functioning of dual channel memory. Â All set right?

Not quite.  In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2"  However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2"  Opps!  There is no "3" and there is no "4"  In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?

Oct 18, 2014i having the Acer TravelMate 6493, originally it have 2GB of Memory. Recently, i have addin additional 2GB, mean that currently the system is having 4GB of Memory.
in the BIOS, showing the system is installed with 4GB of Memory, but when come into the windows, it show 4GB installed (2.90GB Usable) .....

Feb 4, 2009Im looking at getting the P7350 with 2 gigs ram and 9600gt or the p8400 with 2 gigs and 9600gt. The price difference is 40$..is it worth it?? Or should I just save the 40$ and upgrade to 4gigs with the 7350? Both use 64 bit vista.

It appears that the current memory in the slots are 2 256mb Samsung PC2700 DDR2's. This was a shock given that everywhere I've searched has said this laptop uses PC2100.

Mar 21, 2009I have a m7750n HP Pavilion PC, it comes with 2 gigs of memory. I just purchased a GeForce 9800 gtx+ graphics card and installed it, it uses 1 gig of memory.
When I play games my psychical memory shoots up to almost 100% and have a very low fps. I was wondering if there is a way to improve this. Is my system eligible to get another gig?

Jun 2, 2009My girlfriend has a dv2225nr that I'm refreshing for her. Currently she has 1GB of RAM and I'd like to go to at LEAST 2GB, and preferably 4. Will this sytem accept 4GB of RAM? If not, is it a BIOS limitation?
HP swears it'll only take a max of 1GB of RAM, but I've seen many reports of people using 2GB successfully with it.

Note that all of the older cards (the 9600m GT) sadly ran on Gddr2.) I just wonder if this newer card has the faster ram.

Nov 29, 2009I just bought a new HP laptop and it has 3gb ddr2 memory. It says that the max memory is 4gb, but I was wondering if you can put in say 6gb or 8gb? Reason I ask is because I saw a sony laptop that was essentially the same with the memory being the exception. On the Sony, it came with 4gb and was expandable to 8gb. Oh, and my laptop is running Windows 7 64bit if that matters. If its not possible, Ill just upgrade to 4gb... If you guys could though, maybe tell me what limits a pc's ability to run a certain amount of memory? Mine has 2 slots for memory and I have seen some 4gb sticks for sale, but Im not going to spend the money on something that wont work.

Jul 11, 2009I wanted to upgrade the laptop memory which originally had one 1GB module in the primary slot, and nothing in the secondary.
I purhased 2GB of DDR memory and installed according to the user manual with no problems. At the time I was running XP Pro, and have now updated to Windows 7. Everything still works very well.
Only problem is, neither XP Pro nor Windows 7 seem to report that I have 2GB of memory installed? only 1GB? was there something I had to change that wasn't mentioned in the manual, like a BIOS etting or something? I thought both Windows versions would automatically detect the upgrade
Sorry if I'm being dumb here, never done this to a laptop before! If you know the answer could you also tell me how please, it would be very much appreciated..thank you

Mar 4, 2010the excitement didnt last long when i found out that the available memory is 'merely' 2.6gb out of 3.86gb total physical memory.
i dont know where the 1.2gb is being used. im hoping the tech gurus here can enlighten me...

Sep 23, 2009Figured the G60T was sufficient, cheaped out on everything, 3GB memory. Loaded everything up and started receiving blue screen in Vista. Reloaded from factory image and still seems to be flaky. I ran memtest 86+ (failed in test 5 and 8) and windows diagnostic tools failed ERAND test. I think the memory is okay as they test fine separately so either timing off or bus or something else is messed. One week of frustration with HP support. Bottom line HP answer is if the BIOS memory test runs okay, then everything is okay. What a hassle. Anyone know if there is some quirk that would have the tests fail but everything be okay? I guess we'll return but printer and other rebates were bundled in along with cash back.

Mar 27, 2010I am considering a new laptop. The HP I am consdering has ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 graphics with 128MB cache memory. The other I am considering is the Samsung R580 which has a smaller screen, smaller battery, but 512MB dedicated video. Since the HP has an 8 cell, it will get beter battery life.
So, the 4200 is integrated into the AMD Turion chip, yet has 128MB memory onboard for the graphics chip whereas the Samsung has a separate GPU?
Both laptops have bluray and are within $50 of each other in price.

Mar 6, 2009I cannot find a way to change it, I have tired autorun.inf tricks and even using winbubble to change the icon. But its wont change the little bugger.
Anyone know a way to change this, be it registry key changes, I dont really care what it takes, it just needs to go away.
