The HDX18 is now being offered with a 160gb SSD + a 500gb HDD 5400 option. HP won't disclose which SSDs are being installed. If anyone has one of these units,
Also, an HP rep told me that the OS is being installed on the HDD (which is a silly thing to do) rather than the SSD at the factory.
I put a brand new seagate 160GB SATA hard drive in my E1705. Before doing anything, the F2 bios screen displayed 160GB, but after installing windows vista ultimate, it is shown as 78GB in disk management, F2 bios screen, and everywhere else. This is a 7200rpm drive. Is there any hardware limit I wasn't aware of? What should I do regain the other 82GB?
I need a new hard drive for my M170. It uses the ATA6/IDE interface, so the new SATA drives are not an option. Is 160GB the largest drive available for my laptop at the moment? I have a feeling it is, as I can't find anything larger than that.
That seems like a really slow place, since I have already ordered a drive last Friday off Amazon, based upon what I have read on this site:
1 of Samsung Spinpoint M Series HM160HC 160GB PATA-100 5400RPM Laptop/Notebook Hard Drive - OEM
The outstanding question, I suppose, is wondering if this drive is going to work because it exceeds 120 GB. I also read around here of a larger drive being used than what another model's BIOS supported, where it just recognized as much as it could, so that wasn't a problem (there).
It's a Latitude D600. Its a 160 GB PATA drive. I got it for $75 w/o shipping.
At the dell forums, the thread is still there, and its the only post I've put there, but they say now that my email address is not in their database?
I was currently deciding on 2 particular configurations for a 1530 one with 250g 5400 hd and the other 160g 7200 hd. the 200GB 7200 is on back order 10days +
just installed the Intel X25 160GB SSD. If you all coach me on what benchmarks you would like to see I would be more than pleased to post them.
It does seem to make the system snappier - but I question the cost benefit.
My question for you all is that I cloned the drive using acronis true image and I am wondering if I would get better performance if I did a clean install rather than a clone of my drive?
I have brought a new dell studio 1435 laptop and they provided me with default windows vista home premiun OS.
I have installed windows XP professional OS after changing the BIOS settings for onboard devices (In BIOS:
Onboard Devices -> Flash Cache Module -> Set Off Onboard Devices -> SATA Operation -> Set ATA)
Can i will be able to install the windows vista OS after installing windows Xp with the same BIOS settings for onboard devices (In BIOS: Onboard Devices -> Flash Cache Module -> Set Off Onboard Devices -> SATA Operation -> Set ATA)
I recently recieved HP dv5-1119nr as a gift for Christmas. It has a Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit OS. I am a DJ and Use Numarks Virtual Vinyl audio Interface which is for my turntables. I have no complaints with the notebook. Unfortunately, the interface is not compatible with 64-Bit, and according to Numark may not be anytime soon. I had a friend upload his Vista 32-Bit OS for me to download, as a matter of fact he sent me two to choose from. I have (frustratingly) tried multple times to burn and re-install a 32-Bit system. I have tried using Cyberlink DVD Suite to save the .iso file (I understand that). It shows up looking like a winrar file, but in properties it does say .iso. Once burn is finished I try to reboot. Under BIOS, CD Drive is enabled and first. But it doesn't Boot! Upon looking at the disc it shows 2 files; BOOTCTG.BIN and BOOTIMG.BIN. What am I doing wrong?
Just bought a new 2.5 HDD for my laptop. It's suppose to arrive tomorrow and I thought I'd get on the front side of the installation. Is there anything I should be knowing beyond a simple 'unscrew the bay cover on the bottom of the dv7, unscrew and remove the old drive, unscrew the old drive from the caddy, screw the new drive into the caddy, place the new drive/caddy assembly into the same bay, push the assembly into the connector slot, screw the caddy down, button up the dv7, and do a clean install of Windows 7'? I've been told that I may have to do some special type of reformatting before initial and first use of the new drive or else it may not work properly. Is this true?
I've also heard that some BIOS adjustments might allow me to use both the old and new drives,... true? Will using a 7200 rpm drive in one bay along with a 5400 rpm drive in the second bay cause problems? If not, should I dedicate the faster drive to holding data or elect for it to be the boot drive?
I've tried finding something on HP's site with very little success.
I have this Laptop, HP ZV5000 (P4 3.06 Ghz,512DDR, Ati mobility 9100,broken screen but using an LCD monitor
I want to know if I can install Win 7 without much problem. But I want to use the LCD monitor and the video conector (S-Video) at the same time. With the latest driver of Ati (from HP) , I can't use both at the same time.
i have hp compaq presario cq40 304au, and every time when i try to downgrade to window's xp on it. it goes to blue screen error after loading up windows xp installation.so i googled it and i found Installing Windows XP on the Intel based dvx500t Series and i read it, however i didn't fully understand if it apply to me.
is there any way I can re-claim Vista's recovery partition.
When I try to install XP, I can only see the one ~ 130 GB partition - which I cannot delete (?!?!) and then I guess I am missing the ~ 90 GB recovery partition.
What do I need to do so that I wipe everything out and do my partitions as I like and install XP ?
my system is a dv2000, AMD; if you need any other info, I'll try to get them, however, the system is not booting now (that's why I want to re-install the OS)
I'm trying to install XP on my machine after I fried old HD that had W7 installation. I bought new HD but i only have XP CD so i figured I'll install XP so far to get the PC up and ruining, and upgrade to W7 once i find by back-up CD.
My new HD is picked up by machine, and CD starts with installation, copying files from the CD, but only up to the point where it is supposed to start with windows installation.
At that point I get blue screen and message telling me i do not have HD or it is incorrectly installed and that I should run check disk. I've run BIOS scan, and HD is present and scans OK. Is it possible that previous install of W7 is memorized somewhere in BIOS and it is not allowing me to install XP even though HD is blank and brand new?
I tried to install Windows XP sp3 in it.. since the dvd-drive of CQ60-100EE had problems, i removed the Hard disk > fixed it in my other laptop and installed XP > then fixed the HDD back to CQ60-100EE.. now when i switched on the laptop, a blue screen appears after Windows XP boot screen.. and then the laptop restarts.. (the blue screen appears just for a fraction of second..) , the laptop starts normally in SAFE MODE.. no blue screen appears while it is starting in safe mode.. Also i have difficulty in finding XP drivers for CQ60-100EE..
Does anyone know if it's relatively easy to install your own SSD into a 2140...I like everything about it except the $575 charge for upgrading the drive to an 80GB SSD.
Having said that I don't need anywhere close to that much storage, even a 16GB would probably be enough for me and Newegg has them for
I am awaiting the arrival of my new DV7T (configuration to follow) and would like to know if anyone has successfully installed XP on theirs and if so, what problems, if any, did you encounter?
Configuration is as follows: --HP Pavilion dv7t Entertainment PC - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit) - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9550 (2.66 GHz) - 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) - 500GB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (250GB x 2) with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection - 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 4650 - 17.3" diagonal HD+ High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity Widescreen Display (1600 x 900) - Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer - [For BrightView Infinity Display] Webcam + Fingerprint Reader - Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
I have an HP dv5t which I purchased new last October. A couple of weeks ago, my HD got fried (think it overheated). HP sent me a new HD, and I had a technician install it for me. I never made recovery disks as instructed by HP (was gonna get around to it; who knew the HD would die in 9 mos?). The tech ended up installing Vista Ultimate Lite instead, which I thought was okay b/c there's no bloatware that way. However, I miss a lot of the elements of the Aero environment, particularly Windows DVD Maker.
I have two questions:
1. Can I get backup CDs from HP to reinstall Vista Home Premium (which is what my lappie was shipped with)? Would doing so reinstall the bloatware?
2. Is there a way to tweak Vista Ultimate Lite so I can have the standard GUI w/o putting bloatware back in my system? The environment in Ultimate Lite reminds me too much of XP (clunky-looking windows, fonts are too large, etc).
i tried to install win xp on dv5t but after the installation finished and windows started for the first time, a blue screen appears for about a micro second and then the laptop restarts. i did include sata drivers while making the bootable cd for win xp.can any one send me a complete procedure to install win xp on dv5t-1000 model

Trying to get BT capabilities on my NX7400 and found the right card for it, but the seller warns I may need some kind of a cable to connect it. I'm trying to find out if this model comes standard with that cable or not.

I'm thinking about formating and installing fresh, I have read the Out-Of-Box guide. But I have a little doubt. After installing OS, which drivers do I need to install. I mean, like there are two drivers available under Graphics for my laptop(HP dv6-1387tx). Similarly, for other categories like Network, there are more than one drivers listed. Which one should I choose? Should I install all under the categories. Since, I selected the exact model, all should be applicable to my laptop. Here's the link to all drivers and softwares -

My HP recovery discs got corrupted. I read around about making new set by moving/renaming HPCD.sys and it didn't work. I contacted HP to get new set of discs and they want to me charge equivalent to USD50. I am in no mood to pay them this much sum.
A friend of mine has a store bought XP CD and I have trial version of XP. I was wondering if I install using any of these CDs and use XP key that my HP machine came with, will it fly? Has anyone tried it? Whats the result?
Plus, I must mention that my HP came with Swedish OS and the discs I have are English OS.
