HP/Compaq :: Grainy Video While Watching Video Playback
May 18, 2009
an issue I have, regarding video playback. Whenever I watch a video file on my HP DV6T, the playback seems rather grainy.
The video playback seemed much more clearer of a picture on my dv5z, and I am wondering if it has to do with the resolution.
Could this be because of the 16" 1366x768 resolution?
All I want is to be able to watch my movies or video files FULL SCREEN, and in good video quality.

i own 3 hp laptops, one is 6730s with low specification:
intel celeron 2G., 1G. ram, 160G. Hard, and intel graphics. few weeks ago i noticed some of my videos hang up and cause total crash. first it didn't concern me much, i though it is just software problem. but yesterday i tried to solve the problem; first thing i do is to reinstall media playback software, but the problem persist, i even tried different software without success. then i suspect driver problem, so i wen to hp site and downloaded latest intel graphic driver and again no luck. i decided to reinstall OS (Windows XP Professional SP3 clean install), everything went O.K. and i update many drivers including BIOS, then i installed media player and firstly it went well be after a while to problem arise again! the only way to get video playback normally is to go to advanced display setting and minimize hardware acceleration to disable 3D acceleration. what surprise me is games run O.K. at maximum hardware acceleration.

I recently picked up a Compaq Presario CQ40-332TU - it's pretty much a bottom of the barrel bargain laptop, I know, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it handled playback of 720p video, even output over HDMI to a 720p HDTV.
The relevant specs are as follows:
Intel T3400 (2.0GHz)
2 GB RAM
GMA 4500MHD
Running video through:
Quicktime 7.6.4
VLC 1.0.3
My question is, can this computer play 1080p video? My understanding of the integrated video card is that it SHOULD be able to handle 1080p playback quite smoothly. However, I can't ever seem to get it to run for more than 10 seconds at a time without dropping frames and getting video lag and severe ghosting / pixelization and artefacting. I'm currently running the RC1 of Windows7 (I'm waiting for the prices here in the Philippines to drop as they're a bit exorbitant)

problems with video playback on any site that uses flash as their means of delivering video content.
Some examples of sites are youtube, HULU, and abc.com
everytime i go into full screen mode the video becomes choppy, delayed and just unbearable to watch.
I have a geforce 9200m gs with 512 mb of vram running at 1920x1200, a core 2 duo 2.0ghz HP dv4t running vista x64 (though i had problems with both windows 7 beta and vista x86) and i have the latest nvidia drivers and downloaded the latest flash software.
I have also tried multiple browsers (IE, firefox, chorme) and also tried both enabled and disabled hardware acceleration in the flash setting..

I'm trying to watch a video that's 1080p and it skips frames. My framerate will stay around 30ish but then every couple of minutes or so will dip down to 7. I would think my specs would be fine... any suggestions? For what it's worth, it's a matroska (.mkv) file and I am trying to run it in VLC media player.

I bought new HP Pavilion 17-f001sm Notebook PC (Windows 8.1 x64), it worked perfectly for 3 days, and 4th day it crashed randomly while i was watching some video, from then it constantly crashes.
Sometimes its black or blue screen, sometimes it just freezes or restars itself, and once i got ''KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOTHANDLED'' message. Also my Dics usage was 80%-100% until i deleted McAfee.
All drivers are ''up to date'', have 2 coolers under it so it constantly low temperature, McAfee didn't registered any viruses, even tried to reboot it but it continued to crash.

Does anybody know how well is the video playback on the Dell m1210, I am thinking about buying a used one and wondering if it can handle 1080p MKV files.
I am aware of the different CPU and GPU, so please tell what version you have. Also I heard that these laptops have overheating issues?

My computer will (most of the time when a browser is open, it seems to happen most frequently when I'm watching a video) begin making clicking and beeping sounds. I'm able to switch tabs and sound will play from the videos for about 20 seconds. After that the screen will freeze (I won't be able to switch tabs or close anything). I usually try to open task manager, but even that isn't an option. After waiting for my computer to shake itself out of this state, I hard shut down and then reboot. The computer has only "shaken" out of this state 2-3 times in 30 total occurrences.

I tried playing a dvd for the first time (in PowerDVD and Media Player). It's extremely blocky and generally looks like crap. When using it in Hybrid SLI though, the video looks fine. The integrated card should be more than capable of upconverting a DVD so that it doesn't look so horrible. Notice the lip of the counter and see how much blockier it looks in the first picture than the second.

I just picked up the Sony Vaio F series from Best Buy and noticed that the video colors are distorted (bluish) when playing blu-ray or regular videos on the laptop. I tried tinkering with the display and nvidia settings. No luck. Pictures / images look fine. Only videos have the odd bluish color.

I just received my XPS M1530 from the outlet here in the UK. So far I'm pretty happy with it, although I have had the AC adapter issue once or twice. Anyway, as I was setting the laptop up I tried playing a blu ray through Dell's media direct software. I was surprised to find that the playback was very grainy and noisy. Thinking it was the software, I installed Powerdvd 8 ultra and this also has the same problem. I've also downloaded the latest drivers for the 8600M GT and installed them but this doesn't seem to have helped at all.

I have a new 1647, I did a clean install of Windows 7, updated to latest Dell BIOS for this laptop and currently I am plugged in via direct connection (battery taken out) to a 130W power adapter.
I am using VLC to playback a 1080p anime video. For the most part, video playback was smooth up until like 10 minutes ago. Laptop is noticibly warm, VLC keeps buffering. I'm assuming it's throttling .....

My Inspiron 15R 5521 encountered a problem soon after a bought.
The spec of my laptop is:
- intel i7 dual core 3537U-2Ghz

The problem is:
The screen suddenly went black when I was watching tutorial about using Windows 8 from the Start Screen, which immediately closed the video, and a few seconds later the start screen appear. When the start screen appear, the size of the tiles and the fonts became smaller then before the black out happened. Then a warning box appear saying "No AMD graphic driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware".

But this to "video controller" and "video controller (VGA compatible)" still can't find the way to fix them, I went to dell's drivers download page and the drivers don't fix the problem!!!
I've been told that I need my video controller working so I can put my computer into standby or hibernate, since that option is not working on my computer.
My computer works fine but I really would like to fix this two issues!!!
Ethernet Controller is another device that is not working, but I'm not too worried about it since I can connect to the internet using my wireless card

I bought a HP Presario DV8339us a few days ago and I put Windows XP on it and installed all the necessary drivers. Now I have no idea what's going on but when i maximize my Firefox or IE windows the screen flickers constantly and won't stop until I actually turn off the computer. I'm running on a nVidia GeForce GO 7600. Got all the drivers from the HP site so i'm pretty sure they aren't corrupt.

There is a white line across my screen and its a hardware issue, not a software issue. If I press on the left part of the LCD I can make the line disappear, but once I relieve the pressure it comes back again.
Does this sound like an inverter failure? From what I read this symptom doesnt sound typical for an inverter.

i wanted to output the dv5 1009tx to a crt
i bought a vga to 3x RCA (component cable) now thing is it does not output video to a CRT tv
now i know you guys might say use the HDMI , but well i cannot afford an LCD currently or in the near future, and yes the tv isn't any larger stands at 20 or so inches (sanyo)...flat (or as near as flat can be...)
i am using the latest NVIDIA drivers from their website,....i have previously in the past been able to setup dual/clone displays with NVIDIA cards....(using DVI/VGA desktops) but apparently this does not work, the Display driver picks up the TV but sadly no display
i have tried
No interlace (on laptop and tv)
reduced Reso to 10x7
flicker at 60Hz
the tv shows a bluescreen and it flickers....but no image of the desktop
my qs to you all is.......do i need any specific cable (as this one states it is a DVD player to projector...but shouldn't it work anyways?) any other settings i may have missed
(my duty roster would not allow me to get to this shop for another week+) i do not have VGA to RCA or svideo

I recently bought a dv2, and immediately clean-installed the RC of Windows 7. I tested out YouTube and Hulu HD video, and they both were choppy/unwatchable, which I figured was understandable given the laptop's relatively slow processor and flash's inefficiency.
But when I tried h.264/VC-1 HD video, even 720p, I can't get it to run at any decent speed and using the CoreAVC decoder, videos seem to run at full speed, but are garbled beyond recognition and frequently loop a few frames, while the audio plays normally. For a computer that is supposed to run blu-rays, I think this is ridiculous, and I must be doing something wrong, right? If anyone with a dv2 can point me in the right direction, it'd be greatly appreciated. The next step is to restore Vista and see if that fixes my problems, then upgrade back to Seven. But until then, can anyone tell me their setup and results for HD video/Flash HD?

I'm having an issue with my Pavilion dv9200cto video (Intel Core 2 2.0Ghz, nVidia 7600Go) It started a while back, I'd get strange artifacts on the screen while using it, the screen would sometimes get covered in lines and I'd have to power down and reboot.
Then it started with BSOD on reboot with the NVLKDM error and wouldn't boot into windows unless I went in in safe mode.
Then I found that I could delete the nVidia card in device manager and if I just kept the Standard VGA adapter driver then it would work, albeit ugly and 1280x1024 looks bad on a widescreen monitor.
At that point I had Windows 7 on it and hoped that it was just a driver issue. Tried numerous drivers from nVidia, HP, Laptopvideo2go etc... I loaded up Vista and had the same issues no matter which driver I used. I loaded up XP and had the same issues no matter the driver again.
I did pull it apart and found that the fan/heatsink on the CPU/Video cooler were completely clogged up so overheating seems like a likely culprit.
I'm assuming the video chip is shot and I need a new motherboard -
If I buy a new motherboard are there any others that are upgrades to what I have or do I just buy a replacement for the current mobo?

I have a DV9500t with a nvidia 8600gs card in it. Last Friday my wife brought it to work and when she was leaving she just shut the laptop and stuck it in our notebook bag. When she got home we went out to eat and when we got back we took the laptop out and it was very very hot and smelled a little funny, apparently the damn thing didn't go to sleep when my wife closed the lid. Great HP workmanship there.... Well I let it cool off and turned it on... It started showing little red dots all over and when it tried to boot into windows there was multi colored lines up and down the screen. I could boot into safe mood and see everything, but the display was still a bit screwy show little red dots and artifacts everywhere...
So I've concluded that the video card overheated and I'm lucky it didn't start on fire, but at the same time the laptop is unusable. Is there anything inexpensive that I can do about this? The warranty expired a year and a half ago and I certainly can't afford a new laptop at this point. This is very frustrating since I thought the laptop would last at least another year.... Does anyone know if the video card can be replaced?

So when I am playing WoW, my video has started to freeze. Sometimes after about 20-30 seconds it unfreezes. The next freeze, which occurs shortly after, forces me to hard reboot. For the most part, I have to do a hard reboot (though I can still move my cursor around). One time I did this, it gave an error message about my drivers and something about Dx 9.0c. I checked and I have Dx 10. I have had this laptop about 2 months now, and never had this problem before this week. So far (knock on wood) I have not had this problem while watching video, only playing WoW (and usually only on mundane things like fishing or exploring, never raiding, grouping, or in Dalaran.
