So when I am playing WoW, my video has started to freeze. Sometimes after about 20-30 seconds it unfreezes. The next freeze, which occurs shortly after, forces me to hard reboot. For the most part, I have to do a hard reboot (though I can still move my cursor around). One time I did this, it gave an error message about my drivers and something about Dx 9.0c. I checked and I have Dx 10. I have had this laptop about 2 months now, and never had this problem before this week. So far (knock on wood) I have not had this problem while watching video, only playing WoW (and usually only on mundane things like fishing or exploring, never raiding, grouping, or in Dalaran.
two days ago my Lenovo Twist S230u laptop started to freeze a lot, especially when I tried to multitask (like switching to a separate window). It probably took ten minutes each time for the computer to unfreeze and continue.
the in-built 'Lenovo Solutin Center' software ran an automatic diagnostic test, and said that the laptop failed the SMART short-self test (unfortunately I forgot to copy the error code). I didn't think much of it at the time since my laptop is only 5-months old. Just in case, I performed a disk cleanup, disk defrag and made sure everything is up to date. This was when the laptop began to freeze quite a lot. In desperation (and stupidity), I typed the chkdsk /r command in command prompt and asked it to run at reboot. Apparently the SMART short self test is a physical problem rather than a software problem, so obviously chkdsk won't work.
chkdsk ran for about two days now which is clearly too long for a 500gb HDD laptop. I've only used about half of this space too. I forced a shut down and now I cannot access Windows 8.1 through the boot menu (it just hangs on a black screen). Loading a rebootable USB recovery drive is not doing anything too.
I previously sought support on the Microsoft Answers website. They said that my 'hard disk is failing' and I will need to have my HDD replaced.I just want a second opinion here. Is warranty valid under this circumstance? From what I remember, 'Lenovo Solution Center' said I still had a few hundred days of warranty left on the machine.
I have a HP pavilion 15 laptop, 64-bit, windows8.1, i7, intel hd graphics 4400, Geforce gt 740m. The problem is that while watching online video(youtube) through the web browsers, first of all the video playing smoothly, but after a few seconds, the video stops a while, and then continue play but the video is freeze while the audio works fine, then it completely stops. I have smooth Internet connectivity, i have checked all the flash player on browsers, drivers are updated, except for Intel HD Graphics, current version is 10.18.10.3304 , while the newest version is 15.33.18.64.3496 (10.18.10.3496) 140mb, after downloaded and run, it says that my OS does not match.
why is my installation of vista freezing on the last step? its either freezing or taking a very long time. its been at the last step for about 20 minutes so far. It did this last time i tried to do a clean install with a dell disc without knowing about installing vista on hp machine with a dell disc. but now i have used vlite and made a anytime upgrade disc and took out the tell stuff according to this tut. the green progress bar isn't moving either. at the bottom of the screen where it says the upgrade may take several hours to complete, my screen doesn't have that.
I came home and these weird lines started to appear on the screen. They don't always appear and they're not vertical. The screen is fine when first boot up, but they start appearing after I run some programs. Sometimes the OS would stop responding altogether.
It's not a virus.
Tried reinstall OS, but the setup halts at the very beginning, which I assume is when it scans for hardwares.
So I'm fairly convinced that it's a hardware issue, and the diagnostic says one of the registers on my video card is bad. (Actually the diagnostic test ran without any problem until it tested one of the video modes, so it appears that the card is fine in some video modes like tiled mode).
Does anyone have any way for me to be exactly sure that it is the video card's fault? It costs 400 bucks on Ebay, so I want to be sure. (There could be a slight chance that it's the MB's fault?)
If it is the video card's fault, what are my replacement options? I don't really mind the performance, since I have bought a new desktop. So any video card that can render a few polygons on screen would work for me.
The system in question: Dell XPS M170 with GeForce 7800 GO GTX WinXP
Developing for the iPhone has become more and more compelling, but I'm not sure where to begin. I have minimal coding knowledge, and I'm completely lost once I open up Xcode. What are the best tutorials, books, etc. to learn Objective C and become familiar with Xcode? How did Xcode developers on this forum start?
I've had this new XPS 17 laptop for less than a month. The screen started flickering about a week ago. I haven't dropped it or anything, and it doesn't stay black for any length of time. It will flicker off and on a few times in less than a second. I was just wondering what should I do?
I bought Inspiron N4010 laptop 2 years back and i am happy with it till last week.
Last week when i tried to power on my laptop it is not getting started.
I showed it in a nearby harware shop and they said it has board problem.
Will the board gets damaged for just 2 years or is it something else. What to do whether i have to really replace my mother board or could be other reason.
Was happily surfing on my Studio XPS today when I spotted this: At first I thought a component must be overheating inside the laptop but it's above the CD drive which I hardly ever use. What the heck could have got that hot to melt a couple of keys! I don't think I will be using the laptop on my lap any more.
i preregistered my vaio fw 41m/h that i bought in july for a free windows 7 upgrade. I then immediately received the confirmation mail saying that i was registered for the program. but so far thats the only mail i've received [ and it was a whole two months ago]. anyone received any follow up mails with more details yet?
I got a macbook a couple of months back and it was great at the beginning, but now it's started overheating and turning itself off every few hours. It's been bothering me for a while so i downloaded a program called fan control to monitor the fans and my left fan seems alright going around 700rpm, but my right fan is stuck on -1. Does anyone know if that's a problem within the program or if my right fan is broke?
My dell inspiron 5520 beeps when I turn it on. It is a series of 4 beeps, 4 beeps and 3 beeps. It shut's down when it's on the battery. When I have it on the mains power after the first three series of beeps it shuts down but 15 seconds later it reboots and continues the beeping, this time it is 4 beeps, 4 beeps, 4 beeps constantly until I turn off the mains supply.
They are short beeps, lasting for 2 seconds for the 4 beeps. The gap between the series of beeps is also 2 seconds. Recently it has been left in a room that has no heating and it has been quite cold lately, if that has any effect on it.
I have dell insp n5010. Recently it started giving 8beeps. It displays when I use external Monitor. I changed the LCD yet the problem still persists. I haven't changed the cable though. Do you think I have problem With the mother board. The laptop has 1gb ati graphic card.
I have a 17 Inch Inspiron R Se that I purchased in January...it has started booting to a black screen...if I press the power button again to turn it off then back on it boots fine...it is very annoying seeing as it is almost new...I had the same issue a couple of weeks after getting it and did the computer renew thing which fixed it (until now) but I don't want to do that again as I have a ton of stuff on it now that I don't want to mess with and have to reload etc...
I tried the hard reset and it did absolutely nothing...ran the diagnostics and everything passed.
The fan in my e540 does not stop once it has started spinning. This is completely independent of system temperature. Even though the temperature of the board and the cpu is below 40*C the fan won't stop.
The fan does not always spin, though. If I wake up the system from sleep or power it on, the fan does not spin and will not start spinning until a certain temperature threshold is reached. This part of fan control works correctly.
Interesting procedure: I work until the system gets hot and the fan kicks off. I want until the system is cooled down below 40*C (checked with speccy software, the air stream leaving the notebook is cold). The fan is still spinning at this point and will probably spin forever. I suspend the laptop (no complete power off required). I immediately "wake up" the laptop (system temperature did not change, no time to cool down). The fan is off again and will not start spinning until the temperature threshold is reached.
I have a XPS 12 Ultrabook. Recently the icons, taskbar, etc have started flashing. When this happens I can't do anything as it won't allow it. It makes it useless as you cannot click on anything to open or use it. It's very frustrating as I use this for writing and editing photos. Why is it flickering and rendering it useless?
A few weeks ago my battery started to function poorly...checked out the diagnostics, showed it was in "poor" condition. I planned on going to Apple store soon but now my power adapter has also seemed to have gone bad. I plug it in, but no power goes to the Macbook Pro ( I can start it on limited battery and see no power being received) and the little green light isn't going on the plug into the computer itself. The power brick or whatever you want to call it gets very warm but I think that could be a malfunction? Before I call Apple do you think I just need a new battery and AC adapter?
I have a XPS14Z Laptop, great machine, the LED light started to blink orange 4 times then white, I figured it needed a replacement battery, so I ordered a genuine replacement battery and replaced it and to my horror its doing the same thing. the battery indicator on taskbar says plugged in, not charging , the battery level doesn't change.
I recently purchased my laptop about 3 months ago and had no problem with it. But when I went to go turn it on one morning it started beeping 7 long beeps. I did some research and found out that it is a problem with my processor. How do I fix this problem? Or will I need to return it to the place I bought it? I have some important stuff on my hard drive that I wish to keep if possible.
I was setup windows 8.1 pro 64-bit in my lenovo laptop B590 Model 20206 but when run windows camera app and the skype i get this message "To get started, connect a camera"... what should i do ?
I've had my Edge 15 for few years now, and it's been perfect for me, but like a week ago the cooling fan started to kick in very often and is quite loud. I tried to clean the fan, ( it was very dusty ) but it was very difficult beacuse I couldn't plug out the cooling fan wire ( It just didn't come out ) , so I did my best cleaning it like that. I also had to unscrew the processor thermal paste area to get the fan out and I noticed that the thermal paste is is not in the center but is around the main area, could that be the problem why the cooling fan is always on and so loud? P.S Realtemp shows that temperatures are around 38-50 degrees Celsius when watching videos or using the browser. Is that normal?
I turned on my laptop and started getting the 7 beeps. This seems to be an issue with alot of M5010's Is Dell going to do anything about this for its users?
My Acer Aspire V3 772G that I purchased about 18 months ago is starting to behave quite strangely.
The machine has started to run more and more slowly. I have up to date Norton anti-virus, plenty of room on the hard drive, defragment the main drive and try to keep all software up to date.
The other, potentially related issue, I have is overheating. When I run certain online games the left side of the laptop get very hot and I have checked the temperature which get to about 100 degrees C and then the machine shuts down without any warning. I am already using a stand with a fan.
The only thing that I can think of that might be causing this is out of date drivers. When I check from the Device manager it says that all the drivers are up to date and this is confirmed when I look on the Acer site. However, when I go to the Intel site it says that there are more up to date drivers for the integrated graphics card. Should I ignore Acer's information and install the new driver?
