Dell XPS L702X :: Optical Drive Randomly Started Opening Itself For No Reason At All
Jan 28, 2013Recently the optical drive on my XPS L702X laptop has randomly started opening itself for no reason at all, and the button to open it on the drives face plate does not respond either.
This has started happening just a few days after the warranty has expired so i'm hoping its not broken but it seems doubtful if i'm honest.
Also the connection for the power lead is extremely poor and the slightest movement causes it to fall out, i've searched around and it seems to be a fairly common problem on these laptops but i haven't been able to find a solution as of yet.
What with already having 2 failed hard drives and now these 2 new issues, it sure doesn't seem like dell laptops are made to last anymore.

Mar 23, 2010i have a dell inspiron b130 and every once in a while the thing just shuts off lke the bat has been takin out, no shutdown process or nothin. i know the battery is shot, i was just wondering if its the cord or the ac jack on the computer itself? i can mess with the cord by the computer and i can get it to work. but also the cord has been chewed on near in the middle between the ac plug and the power brick....

Mar 26, 2013Here is sequence of event happened with my xps L501x.
1. It was working fine
2. I opened up machine to check how is RAM in that
3. Unplugged one of RAM (along with that little steel clip also came out)
4. That little steel clip fall inside machine which I found again by little movement of laptop
5. I placed back RAM and that steel clip
6. When I try to start machine - IT DOES NOT START :(
7. When I put power adapter, I see the power light lit up and xps logo also has light. But NO sound from motherboard or Fan. Absolutely no sound hence machine is not starting.

Aug 28, 2012Many of us have brought Dell XPS 15s (L501X) an year ago - they are working great.
However all recent laptops now are coming with UEFI as default, with a legacy fallback option.
I believe current bios (A08) is actually a locked version of Phoenix Tiano Core UEFI.
Does dell have any update or is at least planning to launch one soon?
We need it for full functionality of Windows 8 and get it boot from gpt..., otherwise l501x is a powerful enough machine with i7 & a hot nvidia gpu.
Dell XPS L501x :: Bluetooth Not Working
Jan 24, 2015I reinstalled my windows and now my bluetooth is not working !
I can't install the drivers, as soon as I try to install R280283 it gives me message please activate bluetooth using wireless switch !
Even if I try to install the driver only it says the wizard was interrupted before the Bluetooth software could be completely installed

Apr 9, 2013Dell XPS L501X USB Ports not working properly. My USB 2 port work intermittently and my USB 3 port doesn't seem to work at all.
In November I installed Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on a new Crucial CRM4256SSD 256GB m4 Solid State Drive. Everything seems to be working except the USB Ports. I know my laptop is an unsupported Windows 8 system. What USB drivers I need to install to get them working correctly.
Dell XPS 15 L501X :: RAM Upgrade - Boot Failure
Jan 8, 2013The last few days I've been trying to replace the 2x 2gb RAM in my XPS 15 (L501X) December 2010 laptop by 2x 4gb (Corsair CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9).
This should be possible based on the processor (Intel 460M) and the chipset, but somehow it isn't. Both with Windows 7 and Windows 8 my laptop just won't boot. Both give an error just after the Windows logo appears. Replaced it with the old 2x 2gb and it boots normally.
Loaded BIOS defaults, didn't work. Erased CMOS by removing the battery, didn't work either. BIOS is updated to latest W8 version.
Also with just 1x 4gb in one slot, the problem stays the same: laptop doesn't boot. (Also tried for the other one of course to make sure the problem is not that one of them is broken.)

Only just pressed F8 , repair computer but the last option is not coming up. I have the discs that came with it and when I tried it with these discs in the same result.

Jan 15, 2013My XPS L501x does not accept the 130W charger from Dell.
The original charger (90W) was broken, so I bought a new 130W charger (Art-Nr. 450-12071).
With this 130W charger connected, the BIOS says "Unknow device installed".
When I use an old 60W charger (Inspiron 6000) then the BIOS says something about a "60W AC ..."
I have already installed the current BIOS version A08 !
So, what can I do to repair my system. The L501x will not not recharge the battery with any of the chargers.
Dell XPS L501X :: Blue Screen Of Death?
Jan 4, 2011I have a brand new Dell XPS with Model : L501X purchased in Malaysia hand carried to Philippines about 2 weeks ago.
Upon receiving I have noticed that a Blue Screen appears with nvlddmkm.sys error every time I play a video initially stored in the laptop hard drive or via youtube.
I have also noticed there were two video drivers installed which where Intel HD graphics and Geforce GT 420M drivers. I installed an updated GT 420M driver through driver downloads in dell support. Unfortunately it did not resolve the issue.
To relieve my doubts of driver conflicts, I have freshly installed a Windows 7 home premium but BSOD still keeps on occurring.
I am currently running this computer using only one video driver (Intel HD Graphics), I want to run this computer using Nvidia Geforce GT 420M.
How am I gonna do that without having BSOD recurring?
Is it also normal to hear some frequently very mild ticking sound coming from the right side of the keyboard and mildly grounding sting on the plastic aluminum colored frame around the keyboard?
BTW, here are some hardware info :

Dell XPS L501x :: Not Powering On - Seems Like No Power Getting To Mainboard
Dec 30, 2014I've just changed the hard drive from original to an SSD (cloned image) and changed nothing else.I've put it back together but when I press the Power button, nothing happens at all.
The battery shows fully charged, but there seems to be no power going to the system itself. When I plug in the power adapter, the light comes on for 1s then shuts off (I suspect that's just because the battery is charged) Is there a power reset somewhere if the battery has been out for a few days?

Apr 20, 2013I'm having the seemingly all-too-common issue charging my laptop. I'm trying to update the BIOS bus as the battery is below 10%, it throws an error.
Upgrading from DOS doesn't work either as the updater cannot be run in DOS mode. I've tried all the usual stuff (reseating, etc)
The laptop is the XPS 15 (L501X).

Dec 12, 2013My XPS L501X laptop shuts off completely and without warning. What happens is the cursor freezes. The computer does not respond to anything. After about 15 to 60 seconds, the screen goes black and it completely powers down in an instant. It does not restart on its own.
After it shuts down I can re-boot, but sometimes is shuts off during re-boot. Other times it runs for 5 minutes or so. Usually it acts this way for a day or two, then it's "OK" for a week or so before it starts acting up again.
I have run Dell diagnostics and found no problems. I have taken it to the local computer shop. They ran diagnostics and found nothing wrong and were not able to get it to shut down. Yet when I brought it home, it shut down on me within the first hour of use. It seems to run longer in safe mode, but I did have it shut off unexpectedly today while it was in safe mode.
I suspected there might be a problem with my video card as it seemed to be worse when I had an external monitor hooked up to it. Then I ran it for several weeks without the external monitor and it seemed to be OK. Until today when it started shutting down again with no external monitor attached.
This has been an excellent computer until this started happening about 6 months ago. I"m on the verge of giving up and buying a desktop (another laptop like this one is just too expensive). My laptop is out of warranty.

Dell XPS L501X :: Button Greyed Out / Unable To Turn WiFi On
Apr 18, 2013L501X, working fine until this morning when I was unable to connect to the internet via my wireless connection. Two other laptops can connect as normal. If I hardwire the laptop the connection comes back. When I looked further into this I saw that the wifi was turned off. The problem is that the button in the Windows Mobility Center to turn the wifi on is greyed out and so I'm unable to turn it back on.

Nov 11, 2010I recently purchased a new XPS15 laptop. Everything works fine so far except I am having problems with the USB ports. I have tried multiple flash drives including some with activity lights. None of the drives have been found by windows and there are no other hardware problems. The drives with activity lights just flash continuously.
I have checked online and can't find any newer drivers to try and Dell PC Checkup finds no problems.

Nov 8, 2012I have a screen problem on my Laptop, on start-up it shows a white screen with black lines (Picture below) only happens once every 5-10 start-ups. Only happens for 5-10 Secs & sorts itself out before it boots up.
Other time it happens is when I'm using the internet, the screen just sticks, but then when I move the screen, it stops.

Dell :: XPS 170 Lines Started To Appear On The Screen
Dec 7, 2007I came home and these weird lines started to appear on the screen. They don't always appear and they're not vertical. The screen is fine when first boot up, but they start appearing after I run some programs. Sometimes the OS would stop responding altogether.
It's not a virus.
Tried reinstall OS, but the setup halts at the very beginning, which I assume is when it scans for hardwares.
So I'm fairly convinced that it's a hardware issue, and the diagnostic says one of the registers on my video card is bad. (Actually the diagnostic test ran without any problem until it tested one of the video modes, so it appears that the card is fine in some video modes like tiled mode).
Does anyone have any way for me to be exactly sure that it is the video card's fault? It costs 400 bucks on Ebay, so I want to be sure. (There could be a slight chance that it's the MB's fault?)
If it is the video card's fault, what are my replacement options? I don't really mind the performance, since I have bought a new desktop. So any video card that can render a few polygons on screen would work for me.

Mar 5, 2013I bought Inspiron N4010 laptop 2 years back and i am happy with it till last week.
Last week when i tried to power on my laptop it is not getting started.
I showed it in a nearby harware shop and they said it has board problem.
Will the board gets damaged for just 2 years or is it something else. What to do whether i have to really replace my mother board or could be other reason.
