I turned on my laptop and started getting the 7 beeps. This seems to be an issue with alot of M5010's Is Dell going to do anything about this for its users?

I recently purchased my laptop about 3 months ago and had no problem with it. But when I went to go turn it on one morning it started beeping 7 long beeps. I did some research and found out that it is a problem with my processor. How do I fix this problem? Or will I need to return it to the place I bought it? I have some important stuff on my hard drive that I wish to keep if possible.

Later in the day I proceeded to turn it back on and received the dreadful 7 beeps with a blank screen. For the time that I've had it, I've taken good care of it, (never dropping it etc.) I have read on some of these forums that the 7 beeps could mean a bad motherboard/processor.

I already read other posts and have removed battery, power buttom for 30 seconds. etc. It didn't work and I have not tried anything else.
One post talked about removing/replace the internal battery and another talked about remove/replace memory.
What is this the logical progression of things I should try before the Big Hammer?
I understand this is a processor problem. I powered off, disconnected battery, drained all power, still won't power on. Is there anything else I can try?

I'm no longer covered by warranty, as I purchased this laptop over 3 years ago. What other options do I have to fix my laptop? Ideally, I'd like to recovery everything on my hard-drive, even if the laptop itself no longer works.
My dell inspiron 5520 beeps when I turn it on. It is a series of 4 beeps, 4 beeps and 3 beeps. It shut's down when it's on the battery. When I have it on the mains power after the first three series of beeps it shuts down but 15 seconds later it reboots and continues the beeping, this time it is 4 beeps, 4 beeps, 4 beeps constantly until I turn off the mains supply.
They are short beeps, lasting for 2 seconds for the 4 beeps. The gap between the series of beeps is also 2 seconds. Recently it has been left in a room that has no heating and it has been quite cold lately, if that has any effect on it.
I have dell insp n5010. Recently it started giving 8beeps. It displays when I use external Monitor. I changed the LCD yet the problem still persists. I haven't changed the cable though. Do you think I have problem With the mother board. The laptop has 1gb ati graphic card.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 1 year old dell inspiron 5520 and about a month or two back, the display started showing white lines at the top and bottom. One day, it stopped working and we gave it to this tech guy. He replaced the motherboard and battery(The laptop worked but was noticeably slower). The white lines still existed and the screen started jumping up and down. Changing the refresh rate worked temporarily. And then my mother gave it to the tech guy again. She got suspicious of him and asked him to return it. And he did but now, the laptop display won't boot and there's the 8 beeps. I connected the laptop to our properly working PC monitor to see if it was the laptop's display's fault. But, it still gives 8 beeps and the monitor shows a blank black screen.

It said windows failed to start . a recent hardware or software change might be the cause and gives me two options. If i choose Launch start up repair i get a blank screen for hours and nothing happens . If i try to start windows normally nothing happens . I just used the computer the other day and it was working fine i didn't add any new hardware or software so i'm not sure whats going on . They blinked for about 2-3 seconds and stopped. After 5 seconds they started blinking again and again and this continued for about half a minute, when suddenly a cracking sound appeared and the laptop started smoking from the speakers holes.

Approximately every other time I try to either a) Turn On the laptop or b) Resume from sleep - the laptop freezes.
This is often accompanied by the backlit keyboard being lit and staying on. Nothing else happens. No screen etc. or other response. The only way to get the laptop to work is to hold down the power button to kill the machine, and try again. This usually works and the system starts in a seconds.

My Inspiron M5030 laptop was working perfectly fine last night. It was plugged in all night, and I had done the usual hibernate/sleep mode before going to bed. After pressing the 'on' button, the cd drive flashes and makes a noise, like it normally does when I switch the laptop on. Then nothing happens for a whole minute, and then a loud repetitive beep starts. It's 4 beeps in a row, which then gets repeated. I have let the beep continue, but it doesn't seem to stop, unless I either press the 'on' button again or take the battery out.

Unfortunately the laptop is a month out of warranty.
I fitted a new LCD panel to an Inspiron 3520. Upon boot, it showed the Dell logo, then went all white and then displayed a grid made up of RGB pixels across the screen. I checked the panel was connected properly and the tried to reboot but now the screen doesn't power up at all. The laptop also now plays 4 beeps while trying to boot. I've tried connecting an external monitor, but it also does not display anything an plays the 4 beeps.
