what's the problem with my laptop? It's dell insiron 15 m5010. when I press the start botton nothing shows and it beeps 7 times, stops 2 seconds and beeps again?

I already read other posts and have removed battery, power buttom for 30 seconds. etc. It didn't work and I have not tried anything else.
One post talked about removing/replace the internal battery and another talked about remove/replace memory.
What is this the logical progression of things I should try before the Big Hammer?
My Dell Inspiron M5010 beeps 7 times and does not work anymore.
I'm no longer covered by warranty, as I purchased this laptop over 3 years ago. What other options do I have to fix my laptop? Ideally, I'd like to recovery everything on my hard-drive, even if the laptop itself no longer works.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron M501R will no longer boot up - its shows a black screen and repeatedly beeps 7 times. I understand this means the mother board has failed. The service tag is <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> - its waranty has recently expired.
Interestingly, if you google "Inspiron M501R" google suggests "Inspiron M501R 7 beeps". So I'm guessing this laptop has been designed to fail soon after the waranty expires.
I have written a letter to BBC Watchdog asking how long a laptop can be "expected" to last and whether this would be covered by the UK Sale of Goods Act.
My dell Inspiron N5110 Beeps 5 times, stop, 5 beeps,stop then the windows open normally and every thing is fine. However i changed the coin cell battery twice and nothing change still beeps. So i updated the BIOS but unfortunately didn't work. More over i did a system restore to a windows update a week ago also still beeps at startup.

When I tried to start it up this morning, the screen remained black. It made the startup fan noise but then that stopped. Then it gave seven quite loud beeps. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Studio 1555 won't start anymore. When I want to turn it on, I get a beeping signal (2 beeps) and nothing happens. I tried all possible troubleshooting tips from the dell website (disconnecting all power and hold power button, reconnect to power, checked battery with the button on the battery, all fine, can't get into bios because computer doesn't start at all) but nothing works. Recently I also checked if the motherboard is connected properly and there is no issue either.
I also purchased a new dell adapter because my old one was a little bit damaged. The adapter is like the old one, and it's originally dell and the correct one for the studio 1555 so it can't be the adapter. Laptop also doesn't start when the battery is not in and it's only connected to the power.
My laptop is just under 3 years old (seems I've done well that it lasted this long!).
I'm more than a little fed up as my old Dell was purchased in 2003 and is still working. I'm not hard on my laptop - it's never taken from home, maintained well and on my last de-frag (2 nights ago), it was in good health with only a quarter of the memory used.
I was told by Trading Standards that I should complain directly to Dell as under the Sale of Goods Act, I should expect something like this to last longer than this. They were interested to here that it seems to be a common fault in the US, too.
What are the chances of getting this repaired? Will I have lost everything on it? How much will a repair cost? Should I just bite the bullet and buy a new laptop?

Just two days ago I was using my laptop then turned it off like any other day. Later in the day I proceeded to turn it back on and received the dreadful 7 beeps with a blank screen. For the time that I've had it, I've taken good care of it, (never dropping it etc.) I have read on some of these forums that the 7 beeps could mean a bad motherboard/processor.

Problem: For past one year it was working fine but now am facing shutdown issues. When I shutdown my laptop it's not shutting properly (i.e.) power led keeps glowing and fan keeps running until i long press power button to shut it down. But restart works fine. Same problem occurs when I put in sleep mode and hibernate mode.
