HP/Compaq :: HP DV7T Quad-power Brick HOT

Feb 20, 2010

Is it normal for the power brick to get hot? When I say hot I mean, it's so hot I'm afraid to leave it plugged in and go anywhere. I just got my system the other day but really haven't messed with it so far (except for making sure everything was up to par.) Today I started getting into everything, clean install, etc and I noticed like after 10 minutes of it being plugged in (120 watt brick) the brick was so hot it felt like my heating pad on high. I've never experienced this before, is this normal?

HP/Compaq :: HP DV7T Quad Power Bricks

Mar 15, 2010

I have two power bricks for my notebook (I bought a second one at the time I placed my order so I would have a spare for traveling, etc.)

One of the bricks gets way hotter then the other. I don't understand why, they are both 120W adapters. I can't help but be paranoid that something is wrong with the one that gets really hot and I'm afraid to use it. I mean why would one barely get warm and an identical second one gets hot?

HP/Compaq :: HP DV7T Quad Keyboard

Feb 21, 2010

I guess I spoke to soon about my system being perfect (except for the hard drive cover issue that has now been corrected.)

My keyboard is kinda strange. The keys from the middle of the keyboard, all the way over to the right are good and feel solid...even the housing the keys sit in is very solid. HOWEVER...

From the middle of the keyboard all the way to the left side of it when I type the housing that the keys sit in is not solid...it has 'flex' to it...and is actually quite loud when typing in that area. Is this normal or do I have a bad keyboard? God I can hear it now "please return your system to HP to replace your keyboard"...

I'm sure it's very easy to remove it and change it but they will insist that I send it in. Why can't they be more like Dell when it comes to parts that are easily user replaceable?

HP/Compaq :: DV7T Quad-need Clean OS Install

Jan 24, 2010

how to do a clean install and to backup the swsetup folder and to create a set of restore disks just for the hell of it and all of that...so that's not really what I need assistance with.

I was wondering if someone wouldn't mind listing all of the drivers & software that I need to reinstall after the clean OS install is done so I don't miss anything and also the order in which they are to be installed. Why am I asking this? Because this is my first HP, I've always had Dell's before and I realize HP has some other software for like the hard drive protection and stuff so I'm not very familiar with it.

I wasn't able to order my system with a blu-ray drive as their is a global shortage and it was only being offered on the DV8T...which is just way to big for me. HP says they put comments in my file/account that state when they get blu-ray drives in that they will either swap the drive out for me or give me a new computer because of the inconvienence. Now I'm not holding my breath on that but in case that doesn't pan out...is there anyway I can buy the HP blu-ray drive myself from somewhere online and then get it swapped out on my own? I would of course want it to match my machine, I wouldn't want to just get any drive. Also my video card is the GeForce 320M but from what I've read this supports blu-ray as well, yes?

HP/Compaq :: DV7T Quad Optical Drive

Jan 30, 2010

As most of you know there is a blu-ray drive shortage globally so when I configured my system last week I could only configure it with a lightscribe supermulti dvd/dl drive. However there is a quickship model that comes with a blu-ray drive. Is there anyway for me to purchase the HP blu-ray drive by itself and swap it out for the one I had the system configured with in the future when the drives become available again? I would want it to match my machine so I don't wanna do it with some other brand...it has to be the HP drive that would match my system

HP/Compaq :: DV7T Quad-Intel Drivers Refusing To Install

Feb 21, 2010

I'm trying to install:

1.) Intel turbo boost technology driver (for i7 processors) and...

2.) Intel management engine driver

I keep getting an error message telling me that my hardware doesn't meet the minimum system requirements to install the software...which makes no sense! I've already installed the Intel chipset driver and the intel rapid storage driver AKA matrix storage driver. These two must be installed before installing the ones that are refusing to install.

I called HP, got India and the guy insists just because the driver is listed for my product doesn't mean it needs to be installed. I just kinda laughed it off, he was useless.

So I did a google search on the problem and it seems a lot of people are having the same problem getting these two drives to install-same error message and everything.

any info on IF they really need to be installed and if so, how the heck do you get them to install already?

HP/Compaq :: HP DV7T Quad: Audio Is Louder From Right Speaker Then Left Speaker

Mar 1, 2010

The right speaker in my notebook is louder then the left one is. The only way to compensate for the problem is to lower the "balance" in the sound properties for the right speaker (I have it all the way down to 70 if you can believe that!) Now my audio sounds even between the left and right speaker. I think it's ashame that seems to be the only fix for the problem. Not sure if this is a driver issue or a hardware issue.

NVidia installs audio drivers to the computer when installing the video drivers (which I still don't understand why...I thought NVidia was a graphics company?) Then I install the IDT drivers/software afterwards. HP has verified that this is correct so everything on my end is up to date...minus of course offical drivers for the 320M video card that everyone is still waiting on!

HP/Compaq :: HP Dv6-1235cl AC Power (brick) Adapter Buzzing Noises- Normal Or Faulty

Aug 10, 2009

I have been looking online and getting mixed results regarding buzzing noises from ac power adapters. My old hp dv6000 laptop powerbrick did not make buzzing noises as loud as my new dv6-1235cl from costco.

I noticed that a lot of people now hear buzzing noises from their ac adapter. Then I came onto this website.

[url]

Is this a bunch of bs or are they for real?

I can hear the buzzing noise when I put my ac adapter on the table, but almost non existent when its on the ground. I want to know if this will be a fire safety hazard in the future? I dont want my house burning down even when this thing is plugged in.

Dell :: SXPS1645/7 Another Power Brick

Mar 22, 2010

I would like to bring this to attention for the community, as it recently happened to my SXPS1647. This happens with the 90w brick and only on certain firmwares. The proc in my system is the core i7 620m.

One night just before bed i closed the lid on my laptop to put it to sleep and then turned off the TV, but then i heard a strange high pitched sound coming from the laptop area. I went back and investigated and there was a strange sound coming from the power brick. The best way I can describe it is the sound of electricity moving, a wave like sound that gets higher and lower pitched. Very concerning, so I call Dell and tell them the problem they send a new motherboard and ac adapter.

The dell tech comes to my house and says that's the strangest thing he has ever seen/heard. So he tries the new ac adapter and same sound so he replaces the mobo. With the new mobo the sound is not present, so im happy. But the computer was throttling really bad so i decided to check the bios with CPUZ and it was A01. I decide to update the bios to get rid of the throttling issues, A05 update went nicely but as soon as I restart the system the magic high pitch sound has returned. The previous mobo had the A04 bios when it was making the sound.

I recently read the whole 90w vs 130w ac adapter and wonder if that has anything to do with this issue?

Dell :: Studio XPS 13 Power Brick Is HOT

If your battery is mostly drained and you plug the thing in, within minutes the brick gets so hot that I'm afraid to let it sit on any surface, much less touch it.

I thought it might just be a defective piece so I got a replacement power adapter and it gets just as hot as the other one. Has anyone else noticed this?

Dell :: HOW-TO: Repairing A PA-13 (130w) Power Brick

Jan 27, 2008

Well many people seem to suffer from the dreaded brick Failure, I have had a few go crap, and many of those failures usually were traced back to a broken wire in the DC cable assemly. If you wiggle the cable in the area if the strain relief you can usually hear the crackling sound.

I usually find it breaks in the strain relief - See attached Picture.

Fixing this can be easily done with a few items, there are a few little challanges as well.

1. Soldering Iron & Solder
2. Solder Sucker (removing tool) or Solder Wick
3. Wire Cutters
4. pliers, Small Screw drivers
5. Volt Meter (DVM)
6. Electrical tape

If you see Picture 1 of the plug, I just wanted to point out the typical barrel type connector used in the Dell laptops 6000/6400/9400/M1710 Etc.

There are 3 wires to connect here, The Out side Barrel is the Negative supply, The inside Barrel is Postive, and the inside Tip is a Voltage Sense.

I have added some new Pictures to show the inside of the PA-13 brick.

You can see the three connectoins on the bottom side of the board. The spacing is tight, and you can easily solder across two pads, checking for solder bridges is important

Please note, the spaces are small, and you require good eyes, a magnifying glass would help, and some soldering skills.

After your soldered the new connections careful inspection to check for any solder bridges is required.....

Had the Studio since Wednesday and its great!

However, the power brick has started to make noises? A series of about 10 clicks in quick sucession repeated twice in a couple of seconds.

It will then go quiet for a while then do it again?

Its also pretty hot, too hot to touch for a while and its hot quickly - in about 10mins from cold.

Should I get a replacement or is this normal?

How do I go about getting it replacd? Sounds like its shorting or something?

Dell Studio 1558 :: Power Brick Buzz / Sizzling Noise

Dec 8, 2012

I have a Dell Studio 1558 and I have some concern about my power brick.  The brick itself makes a light sizzling, buzzing or light crunchy noise which isn't continuous, but is causing me concern.  The computer itself, also makes a similar noise when doing stuff like scrolling down a page in an internet browser.  Every time I press the down arrow and it loads new images, it makes a brief sizzling noise.

When my computer was brand new I brought this up with tech-support and they gave me a new power brick but the noise never went away.  I took a day off work to stay at home and waited for a tech to come to my house so I haven't complained about it since then.  It seems to be an intermittent issue, some days its worse than others, and I've had this computer for about 2-3 years now.

Have there been any recalls on the power supplies for my computer? Aside from making a noise, I haven't noticed any decline in my computers performance, I'm just worried about it shocking me or frying some of the components inside the computer!

HP/Compaq :: DV6t Quad Ed.

This model has customized & quick-ship option.
I notice the customized version is fitted with Geforce GT 320m - For i7 processor (no other option), while the Quick-Ship model is fitted with GT230m WITH Physx.

I've heard about Physx before, and I always think it is another component bought separately (at least for PC desktop 1-2 years ago). So, is this Physx processor always present with all Geforce GT230m & 320m series, or does HP actually fit this additional processor as a bonus ?

I look on NVidia's technical specs for 320m & 230m, and Nvidia specifies that they are both Physx-ready. What does "READY" mean here ? Ready to be fitted with an optional Physx feature, or does it mean both have already integrated the Physx into 320m & 230m ? ...or do I misunderstand something ?

HP/Compaq :: HP Dv6500t To Dv6 Quad Edition

Mar 2, 2010

Realizing that my computer is now a little over 2.5 years old, I had a little time to think about whether I should even think about going over to a brand new notebook. Given the specs of new notebooks these days (and a lot of people know here that I spend quite a bit of time at the HP website/FTP), I was wondering what everyone here thinks about me going for a Quad Edition notebook.

In case you're wondering, I use my dv6500t notebook extensively mainly because I am a UCSD Computer Science/Engineering student who does a lot of activities on the computer both casually and for work, for a good portion of the day, everyday. If I get a new notebook, I plan on using it extensively as well.

The specifications for the dv6500t that I currently use is listed in my sig. It additionally has a 12-cell battery which at this moment can only charge up to 58%, and a rather broken left TouchPad button. Warranty is pretty shot at this point, since I had the 1-year standard (which I have no regrets with).

Now, the Quad Edition notebook that I was specifically looking at was the pre-customized HP Pavilion dv6-2190us notebook:...........

HP/Compaq :: Undervolting HDX 18t Quad 9000

Oct 5, 2009

I just wanted to share my experience on undervolting my HDX 18t 1103EA, Intel Quad 9000-2Ghz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 9600M GT-1gb, Vista x64. After reading and trying the undervolting guide (thanks to flipfire), I couldn't make rmclock to work. Anyway because Q9000 has only 4 multipliers: 6x, 6.5x, 7x and 7.5x and rmclock does not support half ones, I decided to try CrystalCPUID. It can do only three ones and I choose 6x, 7x and 7.5x. I managed to go down to 1.163- stable on all three. CrystalCPUID would not allow any lower than that, although according to Intel Q9000 lowest voltage is 1.050. Strange enough both CPU-Z and Everest show that this the actual voltage when CrystalCPUID is active. Also when it is not active the cpu works only on the highest multiplier- 7.5x. My idle temp didn't really changed- it is always around 48C-55C (no AC in my room). I tried to buy CpuGenie (10 euro is nothing for some extra life on a 1300 euro mashine, but paypal asks for registration and I don't want to register.

HP/Compaq :: HP Dv6t Quad EditionReplacing HDD With SSD

Dec 15, 2009

I will be receiving a dv6t Quad edition soon. I am planning to replace the original HDD with a SSD. The original HDD will go in a external eSATA enclosure.

Questions/comments:

- Are there any step-by-step guides out there for replacing the HDD?

- I have read in forums that doing a fresh install on SSD is better than cloning your existing drive. Is that correct?

- In case of any issues with the installation on SSD, I can always put the original drive back in.

- If I dont delete the MBR on the original drive, will it create an issue in the external enclosure along with the new MBR on the SSD?

HP/Compaq :: HP Dv7t

Jan 7, 2009

Here is the setup.

I have a few questions that I need clarification on.

First, is 64-bit ok to get. I've read a lot of articles stating that not many things are 64-bit and that drivers are hard to find, and so on. I believe these articles are a little old but I would like to make sure program running and such is ok.

Second, there are so many processors to pick from. You have the:
T4200 (2.0 GHz)
T6400 (2.0GHz)
T6600 (2.2GHz)
P7450 (2.13GHz)
P8600 (2.4 GHz)
P8700 (2.53GHz)

Choices can be a good thing but it's too confusing here. Is the T6600 better than the P7450?

Third, there are two video cards to pick from:
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS

Which one is better here? I would think the 9600 but that's just a guess. Seems like the 9200M GS is just now available in 512MB instead of 256MB. So maybe that one is.

HP/Compaq :: Fan On DV7t

Jul 14, 2009

Just wondering if this is normal - I'm not exactly sure how many fan speeds there are, but for the sake of keeping this simple, let's say there are 5 (1=off, 2=low, 3=med, 4=high 5=max).

My computer is usually at 2, but I notice that sometimes just watching videos can make my fan go to 3. Is this ok? I know my computer is plenty powerful so it's not that it's struggling. I guess it's because I have powerful parts and they create some heat. But it can be a little annoying for the fan to go one notch higher on something like videos.

Should I get a cooler or am I good as is?
