HP/Compaq :: HP Dv6 Series W/AMD Heat Output
Aug 30, 2009
I have done all the searching I can in the past week to find information on the heat output of the HP dv6 series equipped with AMD processors because I plan to order one tomorrow or Tuesday, the dv6-1260se Artist Edition.
I really did not want to create a topic for this because I was sure it has been addressed at least in part before but I couldn't find enough information to confirm or deny my overheating fears.
If any dv6; even dv5, dv7, and HDX 16 owners; have any information on the heat output of these models.

I have an SR-190 CTO which I've had since last September. Every time I take the laptop off the docking port, it is scorching hot. Has anyone else noticed this? And when I took the laptop off tonight, the battery was at < 10% even though it had been on the dock for a couple hours. I also cannot for the life of me remove the battery...I'm really hoping it's not melted to the laptop or something.
Has anyone else had related issues with the SR docking port? I'm still in the 1-year (though I also have an extended warranty), but this sort of problem really )@#%*s me off.

My U330P is running Windows 7 with the latest drivers for both the Intel HD video module and the Realtek audio chip. I would like to connect my machine to a TV via HDMI and have it both act both as the display as well as the audio playback device (i.e. TV speakers should blare, not the ones in my Ideapad).
The thing is, I don't have said TV yet and if what I want to do is not possible, I will not bother buying it. I already did look around in Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback in order to find out whether there's an option to set the HDMI port as a playback device but found nothing. I also have the playback devices menu display disconnected and deactivated devices, but the only thing showing is the built-in stereo speakers. The listings in my device manager don't suggest something like a "digital sound whatnot" either.
So in general whether the audio signal can be rerouted to the HDMI output connector on a U330P.

I have a fairly new y510p (about 2 months old), haswell processor intel HD4600 onboard and GT750M (non SLI model).
When connecting latop to external monitor via VGA connection, I can see the image but it looks terrible, horizontal blue lines and flickering. I don't have any option to change the refresh rate, since Windows 8.1 identifies monitor as being 60mhz (other sources work fine on that frequency).
I've tried 2 different LCD monitors, 2 different VGA cables and get same result.
Have latest drivers.
HDMI output works fine. Yet not uncommon for me to need to give a presentation at a place with older equipment where I must connect via VGA.
Before I call support to take laptop in... any one else has encountered this problem?
Is there a way for me to force the GT750M to be used for external output? I have tried setting in NVidia control panel (default NVidia to maximum performace and Intel is still being used for projection output).

Actually it happend about 2 months ago. The sound coming out of the speaker as well as the sound when I was using a headphone was just not right, barely any low frequency sound. In the beginning I can fix this by reinstalling the audio driver. Then after a week or so the same problem would occur again, and I had to reinstall the driver. After several times, reinstalling the audio driver cannot solve the problem anymore. Besides if I plug in the headphone after I muted the laptop, it should unmute automatically right? Well that does not happen and it's still muted.

Yoga S1 output audio through the mini HDMI port? I see it listed as a possible output in "sound", but it just says "not connected". Not sure if it is my TV, my laptop, or the HDMI to mini HDMI cable I'm using.

I have a DV7-1001X which I got a month and a half ago as I won a completion for the laptop. It has a 2.8ghz Dual Core with the 9600 nvidia card.
I started experiencing the laptop automatically going to hibernate about 2 weeks ago randomly without me doing anything. Initially I thought it was hibernate breaking but I disabled that and the laptop just turned off so I figured it must be heat related.
I ran RealTemp and HWMonitor to find that when playing WoW my CPU and GPU temps were reaching 100C and when the CPU hit around 105 (according to realtemp) the hibernate/power-off would kick in. I have tweaked the undervolting now so it sits at 90C on full load but the GPU still spikes to over 100C and the cpu can spike too.
My first question is can the gpu/cpu take up to this as I see lots of mixed opinions about the max temp for cpu/gpu's?
Secondly this only started 2 weeks ago and I have tried spraying compressed air into the vents which cleared some dust but it does not appear to have made any difference. Is there much else I can do without removing screws?

Got my IdeaPad Y410 P back from virus removal and it's working great but there is no sound. No sound from built in speakers, no sound with headphones. In Control Panel > Sound > Playback (Devices) it says "no audio devices are installed".

I'm considering buying the HP dv5t with the 9200 GPU. I don't really game much. Will I have the same heating issues that I read about on these boards so often? It sounds like they mostly relate to a) intense gaming; b) use of the 9600 card .

My friend have a problem with it. The CPU is overheated.
He already undervolt the CPU and have about 10C lower than usual.
However, currently, it seems the temperature raise up again and is very unusual. When normal browsing the internet or do minor stuffs, the CPU temperature bump up to 65-80C or even more.
Would it due to FAN problem(spoiled)? or something else?
If it's FAN problem, how to replace it? I mean where can I buy the FAN that fit HP HDX16 well.

I've been looking at the envy 15 and it really looks like a laptop I want. The only problem I've found about it(for me at least) is heat. While a lot of people say that with the i5 processors heat isn't an issue, I was wondering if with an i7 processor like the i7 820QM or i7 720QM the heat spikes up as compared to the i5 ones. Sorry if this just adds to heat questions but it seems a lot of people saying heat is fixed are people with i5 and I just wanted an answer from someone with an i7.

I got a HP Pavilion Dv7 not to long ago, about six months to be exact...
Anyways, it used to be fine for heat but as of late, it idles at around 70 C for the dual cores and GPU...it's beginning to worry me a bit because when i play games they can reach temperatures of 90 C.
By the way, I have the most recent Bios update and I have cleaned the vents too. Something worth noting though is that when I bought this laptop it was the only one left, which was the display unit, do you reckon that it may have had wear and tear due to this already?

Looking at a DV7T or DV7 and am wondering about the supposed problem with heat on these. Some appear to have problems and some don't. Does it depend on the build, such as having a quad instead of core 2 duo or faster video card? Are the fan or fans located in the same spot on all builds? Is the venting path more clogged with certain builds? I'm looking at a simple core 2 duo T6600 and standard ATI 4530 on the DVT7 or P7550 and ATI 4650 on the DV7. Should I plan on having any heat issues with this conservative build especially if I don't plan on doing any serious gaming? Or is each one a crapshoot that is built with some doing well and others not so with heat? Obviously heat is a serious factor in the life of the laptop and don't want this to be an issue if I can help it.
Also looking at the Toshiba P505 with 18.4" screen which from what I've read doesn't have many heating issues. But all in all I like the HP better for looks, features and components.

The issue I am having is that the heat of the whole laptop. The HDD gets hot, the GPU and CPU get hot as does the RAM....EVERYTHING. This gets annoying when it is sat on my lap *air vent clear* and slowly heating me up.
I am curious to why the intake vent is so small? It covers only 1/4 of the fan, this does not make sense.
The last time I recorded the temperatures, the GPU was 80Degrees C and the CPU was 55Degrees C
Has anyone else got this same heat issue as me?
Does anyone know a way of keeping the fan on 100% speed? *noise is not an issue*
Another thing, why is there only 1 fan?
There should be two right? 1 for CPU and one for GPU.

I just got my laptop about a week ago. I noticed yesterday that the fan is always on-it wasn't before. Over the keyboard feels a little warm but mostly underneath (sort of close to where the battery is but mostly on the other side of the keyboard). I've been using it on a hard surface so I don't block the vents and such..
How warm is normal? I know you can download programs that can tell you the temp but I don't know where to find that. Is it a bad sign that the fan is always on now? Could it just be because it's summer and warm in general?
I have the HP DV5-1234se if it makes any difference..When I looked up reviews I didn't see any problems with overheating.

I have a problem with hdmi output to my TV screen.
I have Y510P (i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz, Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
& NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M, Win 8.1 64-bit(6.3 build 9600), all with latest drivers )
My TV is Panasonic TH-L32B6. When I connect my laptop to TV it shows me awful picture quality and notification that “this is not optimal screen resolution for the primary display. The optimal res. Is 1280x720”. But with 1280x720 it’s still awful. It works fine just with 1024x768 res. I have no such a problem with my other TV LG 47LS570Y. How can i fix picture quality with higher resolution? I tried another OS like Ubuntu and a couple of hdmi cables…(see attachment)

I recently (a week ago) bought a 17" DV7 3030.
Specs:
AMD Turion II M500 2x2,2 GHz
2x320 GB HDD
ATI Mobility Radeon 4650
4GB DDR2 RAM
Everything was fine at the beginning, but the fact that the fan was constantly on, when I already disabled the "Fan Always On" option, was a bit odd. Then I installed a game (Burnout Paradise) and I was quite positively surprised about the performance. But after a few minutes of playing, the fan ramped up so high you could think the laptop is gonna take off in a minute.
I downloaded everest and prime95, activated the prime95 maximum heat test, and watched as the temperature went up to an astonishing 82C, and the fan went vacuum cleaner on me; exactly what I already experienced before in the game.
So, never actually having had a Laptop before, and just having seen others', I really don't know if the laptop heating up so much when running a resource demanding application is normal or not. I heard that a clogged cooler could be the problem, but as the computer is brand new, that can hardly be the case. The CPU and GPU aren't exactly high performance models either, and they are both 45 and 55 nm units, so they should really not create so much heat. I also heard before that HP is known for their poor cooling solutions and heat management problems. Is this an example of that?
What really confuses me as well, is that on the review section of the page where I bought it from people were praising this laptop for it being so incredibly quiet, and from what i've seen it really isn't.

I got my laptop about one month ago.
I'm kinda worried about it's temperatures. Just surfing internet, I get 75-88C (or even 91C) on the CPU, and 55C on the harddrive. Is that normal? If I run a game, the temperature goes even higher. For example, I was at 77C and I opened a video in youtube and it went to 81C! Right now I'm just talking on Skype and I have 85C.
The computer is not on my lap, it is on a table, so i am not blocking any of the air vents, and the room temperature is not high at all.
Are those temps normal? Should I worry?

I never had problems with playing games on my dv6000t laptop until last year. I've had this laptop for close to 2.5 years and I'm running into heat problems. Whenever I play CPU intensive games like Team Fortress 2 or even play games on Kongregate.com that use Flash Player, my laptop starts to lag until I elevate it AND quit the game or site. I don't plan on buying a notebook cooler since that this is a problem that I never used to have a year before.
Is there a how to guide that has explicit instructions/video to cleaning the fans of the HP dv6000 model?
Here are temperatures (HWMonitor):

The LCD on my DV2000 broke last month and since I dont have the money to replaced right away I decided to use it with my 17" lcd monitor for the mean time. After a few days of using it with the external monitor one day I turn it on and got nothing on my external monitor. Since then I having trying to figure out why I am not getting video signal through my VGA or s video.
Now I am afraid there is something worst than just the broken lcd so I am trying to see if there any way I can test it or find out if it still works before I get the replacement LCD. I at least know the there is signal going to the broken lcd since when it turns on the screens light up and turns white.
Is it possible to use a different size lcd from another hp? I have 15.4 lcd from my sister's old compaq will the dv2000 mother board run a bigger screen or will it kill the motherboard?

My volume icon in the system try reads "No audio output device is installed." The audio device is not even recognized in the device manager (i.e. there is no yellow exclamation point or conflicted device to update a driver to). The system simply does not recognize the fact that a sound device exists.
I have tried many, many things:
Fresh install (as per the sticky-guide) of Windows Vista x64 Home PremiumFresh recovery from system recovery partitionTried all versions of the drivers from the HP support page (Realtek and Conexant) --- I believe I have conexant, though.Safe mode driver installsDriver installs on a driver signing rebootPutting the computer into hibernate, then resuming (odd, I know.. I heard it worked sometiems).Made sure "Windows Audio" service is enabled in Administrative ToolsServicesInstalled Windows XP drivers for "Microsoft High Definition Audio controller"Flashed BIOS to most recent version F.32Updated chispet drivers to most recent nForce availableeInstalled Vista SP2
I'm sure there must be one or two more things that I've tried and just can't remember. I am running Windows Vista x64 Home Premium with SP1.

Before choosing a monitor, we decided we needed to know the output resolution of his HDMI connection correct?
I'm not sure about how I'm to go finding this....
He has an HP Pavilioin dv6 notebook...model number FY848AV. It seems to be a CTO...and I'm having a hardtime finding info.

I have an HP DV6700 Laptop, and I recently installed Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) (The full version from MSDN academic alliance, not the release candidate). A few days afterward, I had an issue where my speaker icon has a red "x" over it, and when I hover over it it says "no audio output device is installed". The funny thing is that the speakers worked after windows update installed an update, then they stopped a few days later, and I cannot for the life of me get the speakers to work again!
