HP/Compaq :: HP Dv7-2040US Everest Ultimate V5 Benchmarks
May 4, 2009
There was no option for Everest benchmarks, so here are my results with Everest Ultimate v5.
Computer is an HP dv7-2040US. Full specs can be found in my other thread for Windows Performance Index in this same benchmark forum.
Memory Read: 6360MB/s
Memory Write: 5628MB/s
Memory Copy: 5477MB/s
Memory Latency: 80.1ns

CPU Zlib: 51409
CPU AES: 14898
FPU Julia: 7329
FPU Mandel: 3702
FPU SinJulia: 1981
This laptop kicked major ass on Photoworxx. It was faster than the following:
Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6700 2666MHz scored 11706
8-Core Zeon L5320 1866MHz scored 9621
4-Core Zeon 5140 2333MHz scored 8626
2x Athlon64 X2 Black 6400+ 3200 MHz scored 7653
2x Core 2 Duo P8400 2266 MHz 7534

2x Athlon64 X2 4000+ 2100MHz scored 6419
2x Core 2 Duo T2500 2000MHz scored 5053
2x Core 2 Duo T5600 1833MHz scored 5027
2x Xeon 3066MHz scored 3339
I know the computer makes a difference on those benchmark scores but it's still kinda cool to compare. I was shocked to see that I beat the QX6700 2666MHz!

just thought i would share with anyone here that hasnt heard of this program. it is absolutely wonderful! i just found installed and configured it and i'm very very impressed! it works in vista sidebar and i currently have it showing cpu clock, temps for cpu, gpu temps, mem free, and cpu utiliazation on both cores! AND i got it to work on the lcd screen on the keyboard and it now shows gpus temps for both, cpu temps, and cpu 1 and 2 utilization! sorry if this is old news to some. i was looking for applets that would display the temps on the lcd screen while in game and came across this program which had great reviews.

Will the SATA controller in the HP DV7-2040US (Q9000 cpu) autonegotiate successfully with SATA II SSDs? The bang per buck in SATA II SSDs is about 2x that of SATA I SSDs (R/W speed).

Is this HP DV7-2040US laptop the same one as this DV7-2043clbut with a different processor? I've got the 2043cl right now and I tried running the 2040US bios flash and it didn't give any problems. I checked CPU ID and it says it's a PM45 chipset capable of handling quad core + DDR 3. So I guess my question is, if I put a quad core chip + DDR 3 in the 2043cl, will it work?

I just bought the dv7-2040us from newegg and got it last night. For what little time I have had with it, I love it.
But, I really want bluetooth in it, and not the small usb kind either. I'm talking something internal, like a PCIe card or something I could rig up.

I am having a hard time separating the wheat from the chaff with the buttload of worthless crap HP installed on this otherwise good machine.
I domped the obvious stuff. Now I am trying to play DVDs and am running into problems. MediaSmart cant make it through a single DVD without hanging for munites at a time. Is MediaSmart just crapware like the rest?
I like the idea of a media oriented laptop, but if the software is crap, what good is it. I like WMC, but it just cuts back to mediasmart for DVDs.
I want to dump the junkware, but I need a DVD component for WMC. Am I doing something wrong and somehow spoiling the greatness of 'Mediasmart', or do I need to junk it? If I do, how do I play DVD from WMC without spending money on something I should already have. Is there a free DVD play app that plugs into WMC, or a hack to unlock some builtin DVD functionality?

Ok About a month ago I installed Windows 7 installed Everest and after I did the mouse would freeze intermittently, etc. Well Everest was updated a lot and after I did a fresh install yesterday I installed the newest version of Everest.. Still the mouse freezing is STILL present, both with the touch pad and mouse.
Is anyone else having this issue with their SXPS 16? I've tried 2 different versions one older one new of Everest and 2 separate installs of Windows 7.

One main upgrade I would like to do is the video card. My manual says that some models come with a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 128 MB of dedicated GDDR2 VRAM w/ Turbo Cache.
I know there is more info than needed in the Everest Stats, but hopefully nothing was left out that is pertinent to my issue.
Hopefully the right eyes will find this post and I can get the answers I need to successfully upgrade my laptop, thanks in advance for taking a look!

I'm one of those people that purchased a notebook during the free Vista to W7 upgrade period so I'm eligible for the no cost W7 upgrade. However, I would also like to additionally upgrade from Home Premium to W7 Ultimate now that it's available.
What would be the most efficient and economical route to combine all these upgrades and include a student discount? Is there a way to do this so that I only have to upgrades once?

i was wondering if anyone has the dell m1730 can run some benchmarks.
it doesn't matter if it is stocked overclocked or whatever.
just post up your system specs and if you are overclocked (if so please state your clocks if you do not wish to give out your clocks, just say ""max overclock")
if you don't know what to benchmark, here's some stuff you can do.
also can you please tell us your settings on the game when you run it.
i have been searching but it's dead and the owner's lounge is way to big to search every page. it doesn't matter what gpu/cpu you have. as long as you state what you have.

I just benchmarked my system and i originally got 2,000 with 3DMark 06. But after installing new drivers i got 4,857! And in PCMark 05 i got 4,893, although i need to re-test that one because it was lower than i should have gotten i think and
i installed new drivers for my pc like i said. But for 3DMark 06 getting 4,857 is much better than the reviews which it got around 4,200 i believe.

I recently unlocked my 7900GS (in my inspiron 9400), and have it running comfortably at 450/1100 @ 1.24v ...
By comfortably I mean the MAX temp under full load (using ATITool Find Max Core) is 78C
(which I know is high, but this is a stress test afterall ... it would never be running this streseed under normal circumstances)
with 0 artifacts over 4 hours of running ATITools ...
I went to benchmark with 3dMark 06, and my score is 2551 ... WTF?
Now, I am a vista (x32) user, and recognize there has been evidence that graphics performance under vista is slightly lower then in XP ... but 2551? Thats a ridiculously low score
I ran 3dmark with no tasks running at all, and when I as afk
Does anyone have any clue why my 3d mark score is so ridiculously low?
If its of interest to anyone, i'm using Forceware 173.65 drivers from the good folks at laptopvideo2go (with the modified INF)
And my laptops specs of relevance are: T2550, 2gB @ 667

2nd Pic is 3DMark Overclocked-----------4366 Old 4259, 4271, 4280
3rd Pic is Vantage @ stock clocks--------P1115
4th Pic is Vantage Overclocked-----------P1457 Old P1410
I didnt get time to finish a Vantage run on my last set oc clocks since it needed tweaking due to display driver crashes. GPU temps never reached higher the 67*C when overclocked

So there have been quite a few posts recently about the 8600GTvs7900GS debacle, so i thought Id post some benchmarks for everyone's viewing I used tomshardware.com to compare the GPU's. Ive come to find BF2142 is quite popular in these forums so this is a game i decided to use w/ the benchmarks. I wont say anything else, Ill let you decide on the performance difference between the two
Note- I realize real world performance/driver tweaking can have a great impact on things, these BM's are for your curiosity only

After getting my new 1410, I was interested in finding out just how much a hard drive and RAM upgrade would help. I have a 1410 SU2300 which came with 2 1GB DDR2 Dual Channel 667 Mhz 5-5-5-15 RAM modules and a 160GB Western Digital Scorpio Blue. I made a list of fairly well known benchmarks, and ran them with various configurations using upgraded RAM (2 2GB DDR2 Dual Channel 800 Mhz 6-6-6-18 Corsair) and HDD (320GB Seagate Momentus 7200.4).
For testing, I wiped the drive, installed Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, and applied all the tweaks in the 1410 thread, including installing BatteryBar, RMClock, and a few programs of my own like Office 2007 and Dropbox along with the latest drivers for every component and all of the latest MS updates. Then, I installed the following programs for benchmarking:
PCMark Vantage x64 Professional - Overall performance indicator, provides scores for various areas of computer usage. Instead of running synthetic benchmarks, it runs scripts using standard Windows programs like Media Player and Internet explorer. Accurate and popular with repeatable results; probably my favorite benchmark.
PCMark Vantage x86 Professional - Same as x64 version, shown for 32 bit comparison – can only address 3.5gb of the 4.0 installed
Passmark Performance Test 7 – Synthetic overall benchmark, could not be completely run due to directX issues. Not very repeatable or accurate, I personally dislike it.
IOMeter – Hard drive benchmark, sends repeated IO requests and measures operations completed per second in various configurations. Reasonably repeatable, very accurate, much better at providing an overall performance indicator then synthetic sequential readwrite HDD benchmarks.
Everest Ultimate – Memory, CPU, and HDD benchmarking options. Not very repeatable or reliable.
Geekbench x86 – Memory & CPU benchmark. Somewhat repeatable, fairly inaccurate.
Geekbench x64 - Same as x86 version, allows for comparison between x86x64.
Crystal Disk Mark – HDD benchmarking program using various file sizes. Results given in MBs. Very accurate and repeatable, my favorite sequential readwrite testing program. Used 9 pass 1GB file settings.
3dMark 06 (3dMark Vantage couldn’t run) – 3d graphicsCPU benchmarking program. Repeatable, reliable, accepted standard.
HD Tune Pro – HDD benchmark, requires a non-window partition for write tests. Fairly repeatable and reliable, another ‘staple’ benchmark......................

I have yet to purchase a new 15" Macbook Pro of my own, although I am interested in the FPS that these new laptops can produce. I am an occasional gamer and realize that these new GPU's are about middle class and may be able to play a few of the newer games at mid-high settings although they have 512MB. Any FPS benchmarks out there with specs of their laptops? I had a i7 2.66ghz, high res screen 1680 by 1050 , 4gb RAM in mind.

when the MBP first came out, but with no results other than people saying it would get too hot... maybe now people have had some experience with overclocking it on the MBP?
I gather you can essentially patch the firmware so it behaves as a 9700m GT. Are there other ways, as that sounds risky to me? Anyone overclocked theirs?
Alternatively, do any recent drivers give significantly better results?
