HP/Compaq :: Bluetooth Installdv7-2040us

Jul 7, 2009

I just bought the dv7-2040us from newegg and got it last night. For what little time I have had with it, I love it.

But, I really want bluetooth in it, and not the small usb kind either. I'm talking something internal, like a PCIe card or something I could rig up.

HP/Compaq :: HP DV7-2040US Vs DV7-2043CL

Jun 7, 2009

Is this HP DV7-2040US laptop the same one as this DV7-2043clbut with a different processor? I've got the 2043cl right now and I tried running the 2040US bios flash and it didn't give any problems. I checked CPU ID and it says it's a PM45 chipset capable of handling quad core + DDR 3. So I guess my question is, if I put a quad core chip + DDR 3 in the 2043cl, will it work?

HP/Compaq :: New DV7-2040us OwnerIs It Just Me Or Does MediaSmart

Jul 5, 2009

I am having a hard time separating the wheat from the chaff with the buttload of worthless crap HP installed on this otherwise good machine.

I domped the obvious stuff. Now I am trying to play DVDs and am running into problems. MediaSmart cant make it through a single DVD without hanging for munites at a time. Is MediaSmart just crapware like the rest?

I like the idea of a media oriented laptop, but if the software is crap, what good is it. I like WMC, but it just cuts back to mediasmart for DVDs.

I want to dump the junkware, but I need a DVD component for WMC. Am I doing something wrong and somehow spoiling the greatness of 'Mediasmart', or do I need to junk it? If I do, how do I play DVD from WMC without spending money on something I should already have. Is there a free DVD play app that plugs into WMC, or a hack to unlock some builtin DVD functionality?

HP/Compaq :: HP Dv7-2040US Everest Ultimate V5 Benchmarks

May 4, 2009

There was no option for Everest benchmarks, so here are my results with Everest Ultimate v5.

Computer is an HP dv7-2040US. Full specs can be found in my other thread for Windows Performance Index in this same benchmark forum.

Memory Read: 6360MB/s
Memory Write: 5628MB/s
Memory Copy: 5477MB/s
Memory Latency: 80.1ns
CPU Queen: 14233
CPU Photoworxx: 11868
CPU Zlib: 51409
CPU AES: 14898
FPU Julia: 7329
FPU Mandel: 3702
FPU SinJulia: 1981

This laptop kicked major ass on Photoworxx. It was faster than the following:

Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6700 2666MHz scored 11706
8-Core Zeon L5320 1866MHz scored 9621
4-Core Zeon 5140 2333MHz scored 8626
2x Athlon64 X2 Black 6400+ 3200 MHz scored 7653

2x Core 2 Duo T5600 1833MHz scored 5027
2x Xeon 3066MHz scored 3339

I know the computer makes a difference on those benchmark scores but it's still kinda cool to compare. I was shocked to see that I beat the QX6700 2666MHz!

HP/Compaq :: KB955430 Kills Bluetooth

Apr 28, 2009

KB955430
“Install this update to enable future updates to install successfully on all editions of Windows Vista. This update may be required before selected future updates can be installed. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.”

See unit system specs below. Both of these units are set to notify, but not to download or install updates, automatically. This evening both computers showed that updates were available. I downloaded and installed KB955430 on the DV4t and restarted the computer.

The update killed the Bluetooth. By that, I mean that the Microsoft BT notebook mouse 5000 that we normally use on this unit was no longer detected. Hmmmm….. so I checked the BT for the phone my daughter uses. Nope…. It was gone also, though both devices still appeared in the BT manager. I uninstalled both devices, re-initiated each device, installed the keys, and all function returned without issue. The exact same behavior then occurred on the DV2700tv following the update.

I believe KB955430 is a preparation install for Vista SP2 but I have no idea why such an update would kill the BT until it was cleared and re-initiated. I also can't say whether this problem is specific to something I have setup in BT on each computer or whether it effects all Vista computers w/BT, HP Vista computers w/BT, or what? Different chip-sets though and same result. I just thought all you BT users might appreciate the heads-up.

HP/Compaq :: Check To See If My 8530w Has Bluetooth

Sep 7, 2009

I just picked up an 8530w open box item. It's a great laptop, build is really nice, haven't had any of the issues other people have mentioned. But I can't seem to get the bluetooth going. When I ordered it, the description had this to say:

Wireless details:

Intel WiFi Link 5300 (802.11 a/b/g/n draft 2.0)

HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless Technology

I thought that meant that bluetooth would be installed. I did a fresh install of windows xp right when I got it, and then reinstalled all the drivers. I even tried to install the HP Integrated Module driver from the web but it during and after installation it said it could find no bluetooth bits installed. How do I know if it's in there somewhere? Should it be with a description like above? Here's a link to the full description:

HP/Compaq :: Built In Bluetooth Modules

Feb 20, 2009

find the part number for the internal Bluetooth chip for the HP Touchsmart PC (TX2z)? I would like to purchase that so I don't have to have A) one of my USB ports consumed and B) not have anything hanging off the laptop waiting to be snagged or broken.

Does anyone know of a website with instructions for dismantling this model laptop? Where is the Bluetooth chip at? I was under the assumption that the wireless NIC had the bluetooth built into it - but when I took out a working wifi/BT chip and put it in this laptops slot - it found the wireless portion just fine, but no Bluetooth (even when installing same drivers as the original laptop the card came from).

HP/Compaq :: Wireless Card And Bluetooth Upgrade

Jul 10, 2009

I have a question concerning self-upgrading of the wireless card and bluetooth.

Long story short, I have a Lenovo T61 that has bluetooth and the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card. However, both the inverter and graphics card (nVidia quadro 140M) have failed. I have determined it is best to buy a new laptop.

I am planning to either buy a HP Pavilion dv6t or dv4t. However, I would like to know if it is possible to forgo getting bluetooth and the wireless-n card when I order this laptop and install these components myself as I already have them from my Lenovo T61. My Lenovo T61 is just going to collect dust, and I am willing to take it apart for the individual parts.

Is it worth the work? I believe I will not have problems taking apart the HP Pavilion and the Lenovo T61 as I am aware of the websites that show you how to take apart these models. But will the HP Pavilion motherboard support the wireless-n card and bluetooth if I originally did not order such components? Will the warranty be affected?

Additional information: I shall be buying the HP Pavilion from Costco.

Acer :: 1810T: How Do I Disable Power Management On Bluetooth; Keep Bluetooth Fully Powered

Feb 8, 2010

My Bluetooth keyboard goes to sleep after a period of idle and it takes 15 seconds for the Acer Aspire 1810T to wake up and notice the Bluetooth keypresses.

However, I found out my Bluetooth keyboard works reliably when I have a second Bluetooth device connected and active at the time (such as either a headset or bluetooth tethering to a cellphone as modem), the computer doesn't have a 15 second lag in noticing the Bluetooth keyboard again - the keyboard works almost right away even after being unused for sometime.

So that means the culprit is in the power management on the Acer Bluetooth module. Is there a way to force the Bluetooth module to never go to sleep? Any checkbox somewhere, a register setting? Even going as far to purchase a different Bluetooth driver? Or any other option? Sometimes the sleep is useful, but it definitely isn't useful with the Bluetooth keyboard. This problem does not happen if I use an external Bluetooth dongle.

(With BatteryBar Pro, I notice that power consumption falls suddenly whenever the Bluetooth module goes to sleep when the keyboard goes idle for more than 30 seconds, and at this point, it has difficulty 'waking up' when I start typing on the Bluetooth keyboard. But the problem also still happens when the laptop is plugged in!)

Acer :: How To Enable Bluetooth On D150 Without External Bluetooth Button Under LED

Aug 12, 2009

I have finally tested the Acer Empowering Technology software on my Acer D150.

Great news, the software works to enable/disable the Bluetooth module on the netbook without physically pressing the button. This is great for people like me that do not have the button on top to push the button inside. There are two software needed for people to get this running on the D150. First is the required “Acer Empowering Framework” software and the second is the “Acer ePower Management.” Once both software are installed on the system, the setting to enable/disable the Bluetooth module is in the ePower Management.

Power profiles within windows will probably be reset to default, so those would have to be readjusted if a user changed them. I am actually running Windows Vista on my Acer D150 with the Acer Empowering Technology software for Vista. I am not 100% sure if the software will also work on XP, but from the notebookreview forums, I believe it should work just as fine (but more options on other Empowering Technology software).

(in XP, the driver also works, but need XP edition, not vista editon).

The problem is that when I go into standby and wake from it, my bluetooth icon disappears and bluetooth doesnt work.

Nothing appears in device manager as well. I have to manually go into bluetooth settings, disable the device, then re-enable it.

HP/Compaq :: HP Bluetooth Laser Mobile MouseHDX Series [Mini Review]

Jan 24, 2010

Just had to share my experience with HP's Bluetooth mouse they currently offer because I can barely find any information regarding their mouse, just that they offer it and the specs. I just recieved it, I've gotten about an hour or two of full use with it after an awful installtion on Windows 7. So yeah my thoughts so far, pretty nice once you get it working.

Another thing, if you have EPP discount, or Academic discounts, and some other coupon codes you can get this at a nice deal. I was able to get it for about 44$ with a retractable mouse (20$) and free shipping at that point. So I got about 81$ (including shipping) worth of stuff for 44$, almost 50% off with all the discounts I had. Not bad I would assume for a nice looking mouse.

I'm just trying to provide an informational post with this mini-review. I hope it helps some people who are looking for a BT mouse.

Installation
In a couple words, pretty bad. Being bluetooth, I'd thought I'd fire up my bluetooth adapter, then just hit pair using native Windows, and let Win Update do it's thing if needed. Everything went through fine, choose no pairing code, and things installed, but things didn't work. Threw in the disc, followed instructions, no worky still. After a restart, and trying again, seemed to work....

Usage........................

Dell :: Bluetooth 365/370 Modules Failing-multiple Platform,multiple Bluetooth Versions

Apr 17, 2010

I have need to use Bluetooth stereo audio functionality (A2DP profile) almost exclusively when I use my laptop.

I had owned a M1330 with the Dell 355 Bluetooth Module for several years without issue. Last November, I decided to upgrade and purchased an M15x (laptop #1) with the Dell 370 Bluetooth module included,running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. Not more than one day out of the box,the 370 module failed while watching a movie. It literally disappeared from device manager and no uninstalling/reinstallation of drivers alleviated the situation. The only way to get the radio to be recognized by the operating system was, and is, to shutdown,reboot into bios,disable the card in bios,reboot into windows,restart,boot into bios,enable the card and then reboot into Windows. The card would then work for awhile but eventually fail again. The module works for short periods of time but if put under an extended load,fails. That and other issues with the M15x caused me to return it.

Contacted Dell and returned the M15x and bought and built a Studio XPS 1645 (laptop #2) to replace it. Received the unit and literally within the 1st few hours,the 370 module failed exactly like the M15x.I thought o.k. a bad card and had tech support send out a new module for the XPS 1645. Received and installed it and the exact same problem happened. Failed when under an extended load. Again called tech support and was then dispatched an onsite tech to replace the entire motherboard and card. No resolution-card failed again. Spoke with a resolution specialist and returned it and again purchased a M15x (laptop #3-really liked the M15x over the XPS 1645)

Received the M15x-Bluetooth failure again. At this point, was considering dropping Dell altogether but thought I'd try the Studio 1558 (laptop #4) with the Bluetooth 365 module, in order to rule out the 370 card, first. Ordered and was delivered on the 5th of April, same exact issue-failure of card under a load. I am returning this defective Studio 1558 and again getting a M15x (laptop #5). I realize that the M15x Bluetooth card will fail again-in fact,am 100% sure it will fail,but have bought a Sony Bluetooth transmitter as a workaround.

What appears to be happening is that the card will shutdown when it gets warm.This is either a Broadcom manufacturing defect or a Dell engineering issue. I know now through personal experience that there is a serious issue with Dell Bluetooth cards.

If this was happening with only one laptop, I'd be ok with it but, this is occuring across multiple laptop platforms, with both Broadcom Bluetooth cards that Dell brands and sells.

This is either an oversight by engineering-maybe they didn't test the card under a heavy load, or Dell is knowingly selling defective equipment.

Dell :: Bluetooth

Oct 28, 2008

I have experienced a strane problem with bluetooth. Generally it works fine, but sometimes when I connect some some kind of device (Nokia 6300 phone) and after some time turn off bluetooth(the switch on the right side) without turning of bluetooth in the phone, the whole BT module in Vista just hangs. The BT icon is available but no BT adapter is found (the system does not recognize the Dell Bluetooth Module) and it does not help to turn on and off for few times. But the worst is the fact, that after the BT maodule hangs i cannot turn off or suspend the computer. It just hangs at the Shutting down screen forever the only thing I can do is to turn it off by holding power button for longer time... When I first disconnet all BT devices and then turn off the BT module everything's OK and no other problems occur. Is this a driver or hardware issue ?

I have XPS M1530 with Vista SP1 (all updates applyed)

i somehow managed to software disable my bluetooth card before completely formatting my HDD.
now after installing windows 7 i'm desperately trying to install the bluetooth drivers. no success. it always says "Press fn+f2 to aktivate bluetooth" but that won't work. the hardware switch is ON and i tried a few other things like resetting the bios to factory settings, removing bluetoothcard and installing windows 7 without it (reinstalled it afterwards).
i also tried this file http://support.euro.dell.com/support...&fileid=213714 (R159805) but it won't work for my bluetoothcard saying "no capable devices found".

Dell :: No Bluetooth 1645

Mar 28, 2010

All of the sudden, bluetooth stopped working on my laptop.

I installed the Dell driver when I first got the computer and everything was going fine. I was listening to music through some blue-tooth headphones this morning, when suddenly they unpaired.

Now, the BT light is on on the front of the computer, but the icon disappeared from the task bar. I tried reinstalling the driver, but got hung up when it asked to turn on blue-tooth with wireless button. The button doesn't do anything for turning on/off bluetooth that I can tell.

So now I'm stuck.

In Device Manager, there is no bluetooth 370 card. But I do have errors in the USB category and the "other devices" category.

Dell :: 1520 Bluetooth

Jun 3, 2009

I've had my Dell 1520 for 18 months now and had next to no problems but today I turned on my notebook and was presented with a "Found New Hardware" window claiming Windows needed to install driver software for my "Bluetooth Peripheral Device"

I click the "locate and install driver software (recommended)", it searches for the driver and then asks me to install from a disc...which i don't have. Then when I check for a "solution online" it tells me my Broadcom Bluetooth Device isn't compatible with Windows Vista, yet i've been using it perfectly fine for the past 18 months...Help!

I tried uninstalling the Widcomm software I got from the Dell Website, restarting and then re-installing but I still get 2 "Other devices - Bluetooth Peripheral Device" in the device manager and this never ending cycle of asking for a driver to be installed.
