HP/Compaq :: How Many Pins Is The Dv6z Firewire Port
Sep 11, 2009
I want to transfer some old DV tapes to DVDs through an old JVC mini-DV camcorder with a DV/4-pin firewire connection but I do not know how many pins the firewire port on my laptop is. I was under the impression that all notebooks used a 4-pin connection, and it looks like it is 4 pins, but the connector pin assignments section of the user manual lists it as 6 pins.

Especially in the circumstances of video editing and digitizing. What is the process that people would do now?
Would they put the camera in the firewire nd then capture via USB of the external hard drive and then put the firewire for the hard drive after capturing and on to editing?
Why is it that it seems only the Mac Pro is the only Mac that now has more than one fire wire port?

I noticed that the macbook unibody does not have firewire port.
So if I need to use firewire device, then I have to get the USB to firewire adapter for it.
I just want to get this right, if I use the adapter then that means I will get tranfer rate of general USB 2.0 speed which is 480Mb/s. Is that right?
If it is, then I'm gonna miss the higher transfer rate of firewire on old macbooks

I have a MiniDV camcorder with lots of old cassettes I want to convert. I have tried unseccessfully to get an S-Video converter to work. Based on my research, my best option is to hook it up to a PC via a firewire. Unfortuately my recently purchased Inspiron from Dell does not have a firewire port. its possible to add a firewire port to this laptop?

HP Pavilion dv6 - volume too low
Anyways I have the IDT Control Panel installed with all the drivers up to date but with the volume turned all the way up I can barely hear anything from the laptop speakers, if I plug in headphones they work fine but the speakers barely put out sound.
Model: HP DV6Z CTO
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit (updated drivers from hp's site).
I tried the suggestion regarding installing realtek driver's but my laptop bsod'd and I haven't tried anything since (couldn't think of anything).
The green volume bar barely goes up when I do stuff such as watch video's online (doesen't even reach 1/4th of the way up) while the volume is turned all the way up.

I'm looking at buying one of these laptops from HP's website. I have a question about them though. The dv5tse has an Intel processor and an Intel 4500 integrated graphics card whereas the dv6z has AMD processor and ATI Radeon integrated graphics card or ATI 512MB and 1GB dedicated graphics card. Which one of these combinations is better: Intel, Intel or AMD, ATI? There will be no gaming on this computer. It will be strictly Blu-Ray movies, school work, web, music etc.

I was thinking about getting one of these laptops but I'm kind of concerned about heating issues that seem to have bothered turion laptops?
Also, does it have space to let you add a secondary hard drive?

Having just got rid of a dv2104eu, i just got a dv6-1131ea, which is hitting 50-60 when idle, i just fired sims 3 up and it hit 85? Is this normal for a turion RM-75 on it's first day or should I send it back to HP for excess heat?
It doesn't fill me with confidence after my last experience with AMD. The intel DV6799ea with a t8100 is cooler under load than this new baby is when it's idling!
Is it just the way AMD is, or something wrong with my laptop?

I'm having a problem connecting my video camera to my HDX. The port itself seems to work as I was able to connect my external hard drive to it and it was found.
It's not the camera as I hooked it up to a different PC's firewire port and it was found. Not the cable either.

I was thinking about getting a mini-PCI firewire card like this one [url] and putting that into the mini-PCI slot that normally houses the WLAN card. I'd really like firewire on this laptop.

I have a working Inspiron 4100 and a maybe working 1200. I wanted to pull the hard drive from the 4100 to test the 1200 which may have a dead hard drive.
I found that it wouldn't fit. The drive from the 4100 has a set of three extra pins making it different than the 1200 hard drive. Is this normal? Why the extra pins for the 4100?

Dell Studio XPS 1640 1645 Serial Flash CMOS PINS
The process to be used appears credibly outlined at the following web address: http://www.darkmagic.org/mike/dell-tag/dell/dell.html
But the laptop used in the above web site is not that of a Dell Studio XPS 1640 or 1645. So parts location, disassembly and reassembly are unique with the 1640 & 1645.
I have had the 'privilege' to be stonewalled by Dell 'customer service' when requesting the lost password to access CMOS & BIOS setup on my Dell Studio XPS 1640.
I purchased a used Studio XPS 1640 that was just under 2 months out of warranty from another who was disgusted with the hassles that have developed with some of the 1640s & 1645s over heat, throttling, RGB screen blinking, inadequate power supply, etc, etc. The formal transfer of ownership was immediately completed on Dell's web-site .....

One day my computer was real slow so i decided to factory restore my notebook, so i did. But ever since after that, i no longer can use my wifi for internet access. The only way i can connect to internet now is by ethernet cable. I called HP Support and they said i was missing a driver , since im sure i can just download what i need online for free on the HP site.
So, The bottom right icon shows a computer with a X on it. My F12 key is on with a blue light lid up. When i go to HP Connection Manager it says Wi-Fi (Wireless LAN) Disabled by Device Manager. When i go into Device Manager > Network Adapters, all the drivers i see are these three
"Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)"
"Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI"
"Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller #2"
This is all i see. Am i missing any other drivers?
Information on my notebook:
Product Name: HP Pavilion dv6z-6100 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook
Product Number: LK183AV
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
System Type: x64

I recently did a clean install from Vista 64 to Windows 7 64... I was upgrading my drivers today but came across a problem... When I install the newest driver (here) for my Realtek Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC port, my download speed (from speedtest.net) drops from 20-25,000 Mbs to 5,000 Mbs
The newest driver is 7.4.713.2009... The one which installed when I loaded up the HP / Windows 7 discs was version 7.2.1127.2008, so when I saw my speed drop so much I rolled back to this driver... So what am I missing here? Why is the newer driver causing the speed to drop so much?

I can't check my control panel when I connect it because the laptop screen goes off and nothing else happens. I have dox's latest customized drivers if that matters.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 that I purchased a few years ago. I am taking it with me on vacation in June. I plan to bring my camcorder along as well.
The problem is while my desk top has a firewire card for transfering video from the camera to the computer, the laptop does not. So I will have n way right now to make any transfers.
Is it possible to add a firewire card to my Dell after market or is there another option I'm not aware of?

I have the TZ series laptop. It has a S400 port. I also have a Sony external DVD/RW optical drive that only has an S400 port (the optical drive was meant for the UX series per the Sony website). I understand that it's almost the same as firewire1394, but you need to hook up devices that are powered (which is fine since my external optical drive has it's own AC plug).
Can I just buy a regular firewire 1394 cable or do I need a special S400 cable from Sony to hook up the DVD to my TZ?

I got the camera specifically because it was supported by vista. But the laptop doesnt recognize the camera. Ive done a good bit of research and it seems to be a vista problem.
Ive tried all the solutions i could find on the net. Even modifying the registry per the instruction from microsoft support .....
