May 25, 2010I was thinking about getting one of these laptops but I'm kind of concerned about heating issues that seem to have bothered turion laptops?
Also, does it have space to let you add a secondary hard drive?

Anyways I have the IDT Control Panel installed with all the drivers up to date but with the volume turned all the way up I can barely hear anything from the laptop speakers, if I plug in headphones they work fine but the speakers barely put out sound.
Model: HP DV6Z CTO
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit (updated drivers from hp's site).
I tried the suggestion regarding installing realtek driver's but my laptop bsod'd and I haven't tried anything since (couldn't think of anything).
The green volume bar barely goes up when I do stuff such as watch video's online (doesen't even reach 1/4th of the way up) while the volume is turned all the way up.

May 8, 2009I'm looking at buying one of these laptops from HP's website. I have a question about them though. The dv5tse has an Intel processor and an Intel 4500 integrated graphics card whereas the dv6z has AMD processor and ATI Radeon integrated graphics card or ATI 512MB and 1GB dedicated graphics card. Which one of these combinations is better: Intel, Intel or AMD, ATI? There will be no gaming on this computer. It will be strictly Blu-Ray movies, school work, web, music etc.

May 9, 2009I have found my dream laptop by HP.
But I have no clue if the insides are as good as it looks outside.
Below is the configuration i wanted to chose. The laptop should be able to handle some serious software like CAD, photoshop and ArcGIS. Gaming a plus but not a priority. Playing movies would be a plus too.

Jul 21, 2009Having just got rid of a dv2104eu, i just got a dv6-1131ea, which is hitting 50-60 when idle, i just fired sims 3 up and it hit 85? Is this normal for a turion RM-75 on it's first day or should I send it back to HP for excess heat?
It doesn't fill me with confidence after my last experience with AMD. The intel DV6799ea with a t8100 is cooler under load than this new baby is when it's idling!
Is it just the way AMD is, or something wrong with my laptop?

Sep 11, 2009I want to transfer some old DV tapes to DVDs through an old JVC mini-DV camcorder with a DV/4-pin firewire connection but I do not know how many pins the firewire port on my laptop is. I was under the impression that all notebooks used a 4-pin connection, and it looks like it is 4 pins, but the connector pin assignments section of the user manual lists it as 6 pins.

Mar 13, 2009i'm having major heat problems with my DV4 1220US, If I let my CPU use 100% it shoots up to 80+c on Idle, 105c Under load. The HDD is usually over 55c idle, 65+ under load.
It's ridiculous considering how cool it is in my apartment, and how I balance the laptop on my right leg, with the whole left side uncovered and allowed to freely vent air.
I made a power profile that locks the CPU at 75% this helps majorly, however the Default "low power" setting @ 50% is impossible to use this computer with.
Is this because AMD processors suck? Could that be why the C2D version of this laptop with identical specs costs $200 more?
I tried to undervolt it with RMClock but it wouldn't let me change anything. There is supposed to be an advanced tab for messing with the voltage but it wasn't there. I was using the latest version of the program, and had all my drivers up to date with a super fresh install of Vista.
Is there anything special I need to do to get the program to work with a Turion X2 RM-72?

Jan 1, 2009I have a Compaq V6310US with the Turion TL-50 (64 X2 1.6 GHz), I have already sent it in for a new systemboard under HP's recall.
I use CPU-Z HWMonitor to monitor temps, here are my average LOAD temps (HL2/Counter-Strike:Source ~1 hour play time) with and without chill mat.
Without Chill Mat:
THRM: 79C
Core 0: 78C
Core 1: 85C
GPU: 98C
With Chill Mat:
THRM: 77C
Core 0: 75C
Core 1: 82C
GPU: 94C
Idle for both is more around ~30/25/35/58.
I get absolutely no signs of overheating during play. Are these acceptable temps or am I going to fry the GPU (or CPU) again in another year?
Especially the temps without the mat? I don't always use it because the temps are pretty similar with and without it anyway. Also, anyone knows what the THRM temp is exactly?

1308tx has ntel® Core™2 Duo T6600 2.20 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz FSB
and the difference in their prices, here in India is Rs. 5000 i.e roughly $100.
I have never used an AMD powered PC. Are their any software or hardware compatibility issues with AMDs? Any reason why I should go with the Intel box?

Aug 9, 2009I was wondering if the new Neo X2 chips in the dv2z are a big improvement over the original Athlon Neo MV-40 single core. IIRC All three are clocked at 1.6 ghz and the single core and dual core Athlon Neo have the same amount of cache (512k) but the Turion has 1mb. I'm up in canada and am considering getting a dv2 to play some older games on, and the dual cores are not yet availible up here, so I am wondering if its going to be worth waiting for the dual cores to become availible up here or should I just go ahead and get one with an MV-40. I already know I am going to be getting one with the HD3410 graphics (not even going to try to game on the X1250, although its probably better than just about everything Intels got out there...).

Oct 2, 2014One day my computer was real slow so i decided to factory restore my notebook, so i did. But ever since after that, i no longer can use my wifi for internet access. The only way i can connect to internet now is by ethernet cable. I called HP Support and they said i was missing a driver , since im sure i can just download what i need online for free on the HP site.

So, The bottom right icon shows a computer with a X on it. My F12 key is on with a blue light lid up.  When i go to HP Connection Manager it says Wi-Fi (Wireless LAN) Disabled by Device Manager. When i go into Device Manager > Network Adapters, all the drivers i see are these three
"Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)"
"Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI"
"Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller #2"
This is all i see. Am i missing any other drivers?

Oct 21, 2009Does anyone have a good way to OC this laptop other than using ClockGen? I am basically wondering if there is a BIOS option. I know there are some OC guides out there, but this laptop is almost 3 years old, and as far as I can tell does not have an option in the BIOS. Jun 30, 2009Ive just about had it with Vista on my laptop and want to try a new OS before I junk this thing. Is anyone running Win7 or Ubuntu on a HP DV5z AMD 64 bit laptop? The machine is about a year old and I have 4gb of RAM and the thing is a dog. Ive used Ubuntu in the past on Dell laptops and its a pain to get everything running wireless drivers, flash, etc. Win7 being a RC may or may not have everything up to speed on for my machine.
