why the new models of pavilion like dv5,dv4 or dv3 the most of all models doesnt come with the firewire (1394) port? only few models? are good this models or are better the old models like dv6500?
View 8 RepliesI want to transfer some old DV tapes to DVDs through an old JVC mini-DV camcorder with a DV/4-pin firewire connection but I do not know how many pins the firewire port on my laptop is. I was under the impression that all notebooks used a 4-pin connection, and it looks like it is 4 pins, but the connector pin assignments section of the user manual lists it as 6 pins.

I noticed that the macbook unibody does not have firewire port.
So if I need to use firewire device, then I have to get the USB to firewire adapter for it.
I just want to get this right, if I use the adapter then that means I will get tranfer rate of general USB 2.0 speed which is 480Mb/s. Is that right?

I have a MiniDV camcorder with lots of old cassettes I want to convert. I have tried unseccessfully to get an S-Video converter to work. Based on my research, my best option is to hook it up to a PC via a firewire. Unfortuately my recently purchased Inspiron from Dell does not have a firewire port. its possible to add a firewire port to this laptop?

but one problem..they never seem to make laptops with high end specs...all their laptops have great design, great secondary features..but the specs never touch the gaming level.
especially the graphic cards.
of course they made the 20" dragon..but i am talking about smthg in 15 - 16" area.

I'm having a problem connecting my video camera to my HDX. The port itself seems to work as I was able to connect my external hard drive to it and it was found.
It's not the camera as I hooked it up to a different PC's firewire port and it was found. Not the cable either.
I have reinstall it many times but the splash doesnt appear whenever I press the wifi button.
View 10 Replies View Relatedordered another LCD and tried to replace it, to no avail. I opened it up and everything was hooked up right. Then I tried the other LCD, he gave me with it. Same thing. When I hit the fn f4 in vista, it appears to try to switch but the LCD never comes up. Also, when switching display modes, the LCD will flicker breifly (VERY BREIF). This does not smell like a video adapter or motherboard problem. I am still working on it and researching but figured I would see what all of you thought.

I recently did a clean install from Vista 64 to Windows 7 64... I was upgrading my drivers today but came across a problem... When I install the newest driver (here) for my Realtek Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC port, my download speed (from speedtest.net) drops from 20-25,000 Mbs to 5,000 Mbs
The newest driver is 7.4.713.2009... The one which installed when I loaded up the HP / Windows 7 discs was version 7.2.1127.2008, so when I saw my speed drop so much I rolled back to this driver... So what am I missing here? Why is the newer driver causing the speed to drop so much?
I'm trying to connect my dv7t with the geforce 9600m to my hdtv via hdmi but the tv isn't picking up the signal. With my old dv9000, it recognized it right away and I didnt have to do anything. I can't check my control panel when I connect it because the laptop screen goes off and nothing else happens. I have dox's latest customized drivers if that matters.

Downloaded all the newest drivers but for some reason, the sound is not right when I listen through the docking station (as I normally do).
The sound is tinny.
When I plug my headphones into the actual laptop, everything is fine
first problem is about 2/3 of the time when I shut my laptop the monitor doesnt turn off. I can still see the glow come through between the lid and the palmrest. I'm sure it cuts down on the life of the monitor so I really want to figure out what is wrong with it.
2nd problem is dealing with the power options. I have it set up so when I shut the lid it does nothing and when I press the button it asks me what I want to do. Almost everytime I switch between battery and AC usage these settings are defaulted and I have to go back and change it.
with this new driver my LCD does not shut off when i close the lid.. is there any fix for this? the dell website drivers worked for this, and i sleep with my laptop next to me and the light MUST be off when i sleep.

Im trying to use the motion eye camera....I had to find the camera capture utility, ver. 2.1 and I loaded it but when I open it, it has a blue screen and says no input for both camera and video.
So when I go to control panel, printers and hardware and find the camera when I click on it the camera opens just fine and takes and saves pictures etc. but I want to get the video working.
Does anyone know how to make it work...I re-installed the driver still same thing. I looked on Sonys site under my model and have the latest driver...but its the camera utility thats the problem.
The port worked when i got the computer, its been two weeks now and when i plug in the hdmi cable into the port nothing happens. It doesnt show up on the tv and now im stumped,

The problem is while my desk top has a firewire card for transfering video from the camera to the computer, the laptop does not. So I will have n way right now to make any transfers.
Is it possible to add a firewire card to my Dell after market or is there another option I'm not aware of?
I have the TZ series laptop. It has a S400 port. I also have a Sony external DVD/RW optical drive that only has an S400 port (the optical drive was meant for the UX series per the Sony website). I understand that it's almost the same as firewire1394, but you need to hook up devices that are powered (which is fine since my external optical drive has it's own AC plug).
Can I just buy a regular firewire 1394 cable or do I need a special S400 cable from Sony to hook up the DVD to my TZ?
what COM port my serial port is on my XPS M1710. Is there a program that I can find all this out in Windows that I just never knew about?
