with this new driver my LCD does not shut off when i close the lid.. is there any fix for this? the dell website drivers worked for this, and i sleep with my laptop next to me and the light MUST be off when i sleep.
View 15 Repliesfirst problem is about 2/3 of the time when I shut my laptop the monitor doesnt turn off. I can still see the glow come through between the lid and the palmrest. I'm sure it cuts down on the life of the monitor so I really want to figure out what is wrong with it.
2nd problem is dealing with the power options. I have it set up so when I shut the lid it does nothing and when I press the button it asks me what I want to do. Almost everytime I switch between battery and AC usage these settings are defaulted and I have to go back and change it.
I'm awaiting the arrival of a FX2500 (a 7900GTX by any other name) for my Inspiron 9400 and had downloaded the drivers which were recommended to work (Forceware 169.04 - anything newer wouldn't have the O/C ability)...
However, I thought I'd give them a try on my current setup with a Go 7800 to see what effect they had...
I uninstalled the current drivers I was using (92.92 Mobileforce Drivers) using the uninstall option in the start menu...
I then made sure that all drivers for the display adapter had been uninstalled.
Then I ran Driver Cleaner Pro, then CCleaner (both the Cleaner and the Registry issue button) and Driver Sweeper for good measure...
However, when I rebooted and tried to install the Nvidia Forceware169.04 drivers the installation got in a little way, and then said that it could not continue as the drivers were not for the card it detected!..
It could have something to do with when I first booted in after removing all the drivers, XP said it had found a new card, asked for the drivers, but while it was doing this the little icon on the taskbar for a new card flashed up "new hardware found Nvidia 7800 Mobileforce X2"....
It appears that even though I've done everything I can think of to remove the "Mobileforce" label from my computer (including going into regedit and finding and deleting every string which mentions mobileforce) something still remains!
Or - does 169.04 simply not work with Go 7800s?
It's not a big problem because i've reinstalled my old Mobileforce drivers - but it's left me concerned that when I install my new FX2500 card next week, I may not be able to get rid of some stubborn bit of a program somewhere on my comp........................
Just got in my replacement E6400.
Downloaded all the newest drivers but for some reason, the sound is not right when I listen through the docking station (as I normally do).
The sound is tinny.
When I plug my headphones into the actual laptop, everything is fine
By default, the brightness setting on my dell xps m1530 is set to max on AC. I prefer to set it 3 at pushes of the down button.
But I whenever restart or when the screen turns off automatically after inactivity, it just resets back into the full brightness. Is there anyway to make it 'remember' the brightness that I set it to?
I got a XPS M1730 with nVidia 8800M GTX SLI.
When i wanted to start it yesterday it stopped just after initializing the LCD panel. I did not install or remove any software/hardware before it happened.
i tried the Vista repair function but without success.
the computer starts in safe mode and in "normal mode" if i uninstalled the graphics driver before.
i checked my HDD and even reset it to factory settings but still same problem. as soon as i load the proper graphics driver it freezer resp wont start up again.
i got a 5672awlmi (european)with xp(SP2 integrated)whitch i installed by myself(recovery partition deleted)..none of the 4 usb and the orbicam(logitech) works..i formatted several times but the problem remains...how can i get my usb working?

but one problem..they never seem to make laptops with high end specs...all their laptops have great design, great secondary features..but the specs never touch the gaming level.
especially the graphic cards.
of course they made the 20" dragon..but i am talking about smthg in 15 - 16" area.

I just bought a BZ-560 and I down graded to XP Pro.
Im trying to use the motion eye camera....I had to find the camera capture utility, ver. 2.1 and I loaded it but when I open it, it has a blue screen and says no input for both camera and video.
So when I go to control panel, printers and hardware and find the camera when I click on it the camera opens just fine and takes and saves pictures etc. but I want to get the video working.
Does anyone know how to make it work...I re-installed the driver still same thing. I looked on Sonys site under my model and have the latest driver...but its the camera utility thats the problem.
I have reinstall it many times but the splash doesnt appear whenever I press the wifi button.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've had my Dell XPS M1530 Notebook for just over a year now and I've been having a problem with the lid and getting the notebook to sleep when closed almost since day one!
Essentially, closing the lid does not put the computer to sleep! The screen stays on and the computer stays on. I've checked in the power options and they are all correctly configured to sleep, but I've also tried configuring them to hibernate but this still does not work. I've tried almost all of the software options and settings that I can think of and also opening up the computer to see if there were any loose connections, but everything seems fine!?
Just received a brand new Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and it won't come out of sleep mode after the lid has been closed. Power's fine (battery and mains lead) and sleep mode when the lids up is fine. If I set the power management to hibernate when the lid is closed that's fine as well.
Quick resumption of services via sleep mode is important to the way I work.
I installed Nvidia system tools earlier today, but didn't change anything (knowingly) at the time.
I then downloaded and installed batterybar which asked for a reboot, and upon restarting Aero had stopped working and 7 had apparently forgotten my gpu exists?
i updated bios in my acer travelmate 2000, it says to restart the system, after the boot it didnt show anything in the screen. there is a power but totally nothing on the srceen.
how i will going to restore it, and they said i need to make a bootable flash floopy drive.
My laptop Acer 5920G doesnt start up anymore. It happend when one day the screen froze and then when i restarted it , it just came up with a grey screen .
Now when i press the power button , the fans starts up and everything and the screen just comes grey sometimes with stripes on it . There is no actual sound eg. vista sound or anything but theres is sound coming from the fans. Once in a while it does boot up and 2 mins later the screen just completely freezes and then when restarted the grey screen thing just happens again.
ordered another LCD and tried to replace it, to no avail. I opened it up and everything was hooked up right. Then I tried the other LCD, he gave me with it. Same thing. When I hit the fn f4 in vista, it appears to try to switch but the LCD never comes up. Also, when switching display modes, the LCD will flicker breifly (VERY BREIF). This does not smell like a video adapter or motherboard problem. I am still working on it and researching but figured I would see what all of you thought.

I recently upgraded the video driver on my m1210 and now when I have the lid closed the lcd will randomly turn on and stay on.
I didn't have this problem before I updated the display driver. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix for it?
Is this by design? I never noticed it before, and I'm wondering if it's always been that way, or if something has recently gone wrong.
I have it set not to go to standby or anything when I close the lid, but it seems like it should still turn the backlight off to conserve battery.
I decided to reinstall everything and make some hardware upgrades. Fisrt of all I upgraded BIOS, DVD firmware etc. Then I installed Win7x64 (proffesional), previously I had Ultimate RTM version.
After all almost everything is working fine. System is working great except one thing - something is wrong about power management. Sleep, hibernation and poweroff option is working ok. There is problem with lid only - when it's closed external monitor is turned off (that's ok) and main LCD is black (but backlited).
Music is still playing, but also that soon is gone (I always play that from Internet). Fans are working as usual, LCD is not completely turned off, music stops, keyboard is somehow working (i.e. Fn+F10 - dvd key), but I can't do anything with computer then.
The only thing that is working then it's holding down power button to turn off computer hard.
In power options I tried to change some options about lid. On plugged in - closing lid: do nothing .....
when i try to update my nvidia drivers to 195.62 (or any other gpu driver) it gives me a error that it doesnt detect any compatable gpu... ?

After I'm done using the computer, how do I put it to sleep? Normally I would just shut the lid, but the lid is already closed.
So what I did was I just put it sleep manually through the taskbar at the top. But when I woke up this morning my laptop had its fan blowing and the laptop was pretty warm. Almost as if the laptop was still on all night.
Anyone else experience this? If so how do you put it to sleep?
I use my Dell laptop as an HTPC, I have never had this problem before but now all the sudden I'm having this problem.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy wife and daughter both have Dell Inspiron 1525's. My daughter's works flawlessly while my wife's has one irritating glitch. When the lid is closed, instead of going into sleep mode, it reboots itself. It doesn't complete itself though it always stops at the "windows shutdown improperly how do you want to restart" or something like that screen...it's the dos screen that says do you want to start windows normally or in safe mode, etc.
When it does this it never shuts off so I'll get home from work or I'll get up in the morning to find the fan has run all night...It was purchased in august and I'd hate for my wife to prematurely burn this thing up.
I've gone into ms config and one by one tried to isolate what the problem could be. Sometimes I have it narrowed down or actually got the culprit because once in awhile it'll do what it's supposed to do....then next time the lid gets closed it goes back to the existing problem.
So I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 that has all the latest drivers with BIOS A11 (Win 7 Ultimate x64)... I have all the power settings configured for correctly for sleep (no hybernate), however no matter what I try, I can't get the laptop to wake when the lid is closed via USB keyboard.
I'm using Logitech's Wave MK560 combo (unifying receiver) - both the keyboard/mouse have the wake option enabled in their hardware settings. I also have wake from USB enabled in the BIOS.
The interesting thing is that if I put the computer to sleep with the lid open, I can make it sleep/wake it from the Logitech devices. With the lid closed, I can only make it sleep - the only way to wake it up is to open the lid and press the power button.
