HP/Compaq :: Windows 7 On Dv2500
Nov 14, 2009
I know hp doesn't support windows 7 on their dv2500 models. I figure i can install it, 7 will find most of the drivers automatically, then I'll have to search for a couple on my own. Any of you install 7 on a 2500? I'm guessing i can just take drivers from the dv4 or another similar model,

my hp pavillion dv2500 laptop computer.
It use to get hot quick and I was neglected to maintain it well for about 5 months as I have so many other things to take care. It is now getting very hot too quickly.
Now it started giving me problems on starting the computer.
On each re-boot it is behaving weird.
Sometimes it shows 6 login screens and screen will have images shrinked having test blurred out. after couple of restarts its prompt me to repair the windows After I repair; it either starts normally or again comes back with 6 login screens. Even it starts again normally it won't stay more than 30 mins and it automatically shutsdown and restarts with 6 login screens and prompts me to repair the window again. it is keep happening
I contacted HP customer support, but since it is out of warranty period they couldn't really helped me but mentioned to me that it may be a problem with the mother board or video card. But I believe if it is a hardware problem it should behave consistant
What I am thinking is a heat problem with a corrupted OS. But not sure. Any body have any idea how to get out of this problem
my laptop configuration is :
Intel core 2 duo 2.4 g hz processor
4 GB RAM ( 2x 2GB)
250 GB Hitachi hard drive
Windows Vista Business 32 Bit OS
Nividia Gfx card with 64 MB viedeo memory

my laptop is dv2500 and for e past 2 days, my display driver has been giving me a lot of problems.
at times, the screen would just go fuzzy and i won't be able to see anything so i have to power off my computer. at times, the screen goes totally blank and the computer restarts itself. when it does restart the screen stays blank and i have to shut down using alt+f4. at times i'll just get a BSOD for nvlddmkm error. and at times, the screen will go black and then return with the message "the display driver stopped responding and has recovered". the screen was fuzzy but i still did manage to make out that message.
i rolled back my driver to the default drivers that came with this laptop and after that, e screen has only gone blank once only to come back again totally alright 3 secs later with the same "display driver recovered" message.
this only started happening like 2-3 days ago but today it happened like atleast 5-6 times within 6 hrs. so i was wondering what's really the problem? i have searched around for people having this problem but their problem isn't as unique as mine. for them, it usually happens while playing games. for me it happens anytime, like during normal usage or whatever.

i have a 1.5 year old HP PAVILION dv2500.
A couple days ago I tried turning the laptop on, and it just went to an all black screen.
I could not click/type anything (nothing worked), and I couldnt open the CD drive.
After a few minutes, the laptop shut down by itself.

with a new computer, hp dv6 on windows 7, i need to transfer windows xp files over.
so it's sort of like drag and drop, except wirelessly.
the windows xp is a desktop with a router configured and the laptop configured to use the router for wireless access...
ive been trying to understand how all this works, but i cannot simply manage to access windows xp, or using windows xp to access windows 7!
i have a cat5 cable if that is needed... but i dont know what to do with it..
Even if it's not wireless and with the CAT5 cable, i am willing as long as it gets transferred, i just prefer wireless
and i think i rea that Homegroup is not compatible with Windows XP so what do I use?
it's also confusing that in my Network Map on windows 7, it does not pick up the shared documents folder on my desktop.

Yesterday I bought a Compaq CQ58 with Windows 8 on it. I would like to buy Windows 7 to replace Windows 8 with. But:
1. Is it posible to change 8 to 7 on my CQ58 notebook?
2. And if so, can I still have the default HP programs on it?
3. And if so, how?

My dad owns an HP G60. He hates Vista so we tried to get xp on it with absolutely no luck. It wouldn't install or work on the machine whatsoever. When my dad heard about windows 7, he got high hopes for his laptop once again. He wants to get windows 7 on it but with our recent failure, I thought I would ask people what they thought first. So NBR experts, will windows 7 install on an HP G60?

I have windows XP installed on my dv6894ca notebook computer, all went fine and I followed the guide posted here and used some of the drivers, the rest I obtained from the HP Support site for my notebook. My problem is that my laptop seems to be running very hot compared to what It did with Vista. The fans are on a lot more, and the notebook is hotter to touch than it was running Vista. It's almost like the CPU isn't slowing itself down enough, or the GPU isnt. Im not sure why it is doing this, any pointers or tips would be nice. It just seems like with XP everything gets hot, faster, and doesn't cool down that well.

I have an HDX18t with an SSD partitioned for Vista and the Win7 RC. When I get my upgrade disc for Win 7, I'm considering installing it over the Win 7 RC partition and leaving the Vista partition in tact for now in case their are any problems with the install. I've read that you can do a clean install even with the upgrade disc. Is this a viable and/or advisable method?

Just got done installing Windows 7 Professional (x64) on my three year old dv2000z.
Specs
CPU:AMD Turion x2 1.8 GHz
RAM: 2GB DDR2
HD: Crucial 128 GB SSD
Windows 7 Performance Index is as follows.
CPU: 4.6
RAM: 5.1
Graphics (Desktop): 3.3
Graphics (3D): 3.0
Primary Hard Disk: 7.0
Needless to say. The combination of Win7 and the SSD have brought it back to life. Even if it dies, I'll still have an SSD to put in my next laptop.

I have a HP zv6000 with the exact model being 6007us. I wanted to know if anyone has tried putting windows 7 on the laptop. Ive researched but with no straight answer, ive read that the pc can hold up to 2GB of Ram and that with windows 7 installed, it can read 4Gb. Im happy with the way it is functioning with XP but ive heard that with windows 7, it would be faster, save battery, and might help with overheating. Ive recently had trouble with the laptop overheating and ive cleanded out the entire pc, use a chill mat, but it will out of no where go from 40c to 90c. Can windows 7 be put on with no problems being kind of an old laptop? If so would it help a bit with it overheating?

I've finally recieved my windows 7 disk from HP
But before I go and upgrade/install everything I have a few questions.
1. Am I able to do a clean install? Does the product key in the kit allow for me to do this?
2. How would I go about doing a clean install properly? (paranoid about mucking things up)
3. After doing a clean install, am I able to use the second disk to update the drivers, etc. or can I only use it when doing the upgrade option?

I've had my much enjoyed HP Compaq 2510p for some time now and although it's not the fastest machine in the world, I like the size, build and look of the thing.
Its a 1.2GHz U7600 dual core machine with a 60Gb HDD and 2Gb RAM.
I've always run XP Pro and been happy with it, but I have recently installed the Windows 7 RC. It runs very well indeed despite the slow processor etc. I like it a lot, I have to say. It's here for keeps, I think.
Nevertheless, I'd like to quicken things up a tad, and had in fact felt like that before I went from XP Pro to W7RC.
So along comes an MTRON MOBI 3000 32Gb 1.8" ZIF IDE SSD. Lovely jubbly, that should perk things up a bit. Some will view 32Gb as a bit small but I want the OS, MS Office 2007, some work files and the EVE Online client on the machine and that's about it. I think 32Gb should be enough.
Out goes the battery, off comes the HDD cover. 2 screws to release the old HDD, er, unscrewed. I undid the ZIF, replaced HDD with the new SSD and put it all back together.
Booted the 2510p and it recognised the drive and started to boot from the W7RC DVD that I bunged in the optical drive.
Failed.
The W7RC bombed out almost immediately saying it had a problem with (I think) /boot/cd.
I wonder if this is because it doesn't have the required drivers for the SSD? Or if it needs there to be at least one partition on the drive for it to work. Or is my DVD a bit jiggered?

Im thinking on buying a new HDX18t with a quad core extreme processor. Is it possible to configure these units with XP? HP seems to offer only native Vista Drivers though I thinki as long as all hardware is probably identified it can be possible to find all the necessary drivers for XP.

I got my HDX 18 yesterday, very impressed. I have the T9550 with DDR3 option.
So I installed Windows 7 RC and downloaded all the latest drivers. I got all the drivers working without any problems, besides when I installed the latest AUDIO drivers from the HP Website, the system became very slow, even when trying to move the volume bar up, it would freeze up. So I removed that driver and installed the driver that came in the SWSetup folder on my drive, that seemed to work just fine.
The real problem im having is with the GFX Drivers, and maybe it's just me, but it feels VERY slugish when moving windows around, and I even see a delay when right clicking on icons on the desktop, this can't be right? I have 185.81_notebook_win7_64bit_beta.exe nvidia driver installed.
After running win7 I desided to install vista 64bit, and the GFX works great in vista, no slug at all...
