HP/Compaq :: How Do I Reclaim Partition

Sep 23, 2009

I'm wanting to seek out a bit more space on my ageing compaq presario v5000, I have a full set of recovery disks that i can use if need be, so i'm thinking that if I delete my partition d drive i'll effectivly gain almost 6gb of usable space and with only 60gb altogether that will be helpful to me. trouble is, I have formatted the partition in disk managment (xp btw) but I can't remove the partition and use the extra space,

Dell XPS 13 :: Returning 8GB Hibernation Partition To Main OS Partition

Mar 11, 2012

I have 4 partitions on my disk as shown in Disk Management. I don't use hibernation, so I want to reclaim the 8GB partition for use as storage. I have a few questions regarding this.

1) What will I compromise if I remove the 8GB partition, other than hibernation?

2) I right-clicked on the OS partition and selected "Shrink Volume". I received the popup shown in the attached image below. It doesn't reflect anything about returning the 8GB partition to the OS partition. In fact, shrinking goes against my intention of expanding the OS partition to include the 8GB. Right-clicking on the 8GB partition only brings up "Help" in the context menu and is not shrinkable.

3) Can I do this any time after having used the laptop for a while, with data and programs already installed? Does the process affect existing files and installations?

HP/Compaq :: HP HDX 16 Recovery Partition

Jan 15, 2010

I recently bought a HP HDX 16 laptop, and today I've created my recovery disks. I also have a recovery partition.

My question is:
If I remove that recovery partition, and go back to the factory installation using my recovery disks, will my recovery partition be back?

I've read that those recovery disks bring your notebook back to the state as it came from the factory, so that would include the recovery partition, right?

Acer :: Compaq Setup Partition

I have this hidden partition on my notebook (aspire 6920G) and I have no idea what is it used for. I know that PQService is recovery partition but I've never heard of this. By googling I've found that HP's used to use Compaq Setup partition to boot bios (?), but this is acer. I would really like to get rid of it (because now I can't create another primary partition).

HP/Compaq :: NewLaptop Additional Partition

Nov 21, 2009

Just got a new HP Laptop dv7t and it comes with 4 partitions on the 320gb hard drive. I need to have the Windows 7 partitions divided for my OS and programs and then a new partition for Data.

I am only allowed 4 partitions (I do not want to use dynamic disks), currently there are two hp ones, recovery and hp tools and the two win7 partitions system and os (Win 7 Prof).

What does everyone do if they want to have an additional partition, delete recovery or hp tools?

HP/Compaq :: 1045EE- Lost My Recovery Partition

May 8, 2009

I bought an HP-DV6 1045EE, but I didn't like the partition scheme..

This was the way it first was:

C:Local Disk [288gb]
D:Recovery [10gb]

C was preloaded with Windows Vista. I shrunk the partition using Vista's Disk Management as much as I could, and shrunk it further to 50gb using Gparted. After doing this, I couldn't boot into Vista anymore. So I restored the image using the recovery manager.

I then created another 50gig partition for Win7, and installed it. All well and good.

Then I created an extended partition out of the remaining space, since all other partitions were primary, and created two logical partitions, 1 unformatted and the other NTFS.

After this, I booted into Vista and saw that my recovery partition had turned to unallocated space, even though I'd made sure not to touch that partition no matter what...

I decided to try to restore the notebook with those recovery disks. Guess what? It appears that you can no longer use those disks without having the original HP RECOVERY PARTITION?

I just simply can't use it anymore. I can't restore my notebook to factory condition anymore. The only option I have is to Click "FINISH" and reboot.

HP/Compaq :: Want To Clean Up/format Presario C310 -- Use Recovery Disks Or Recovery Partition?

Aug 30, 2009

I’ve just done a clean install of my Dell Vostro -- reinstalling vista and removing the recovery partition in the process. Outcome = a ‘cleaner’ machine with none of the preinstalled bloatware/c**p from Dell. (first time I’ve done anything like this, but followed a brill guide in the Dell section of this forum ).

I’m about to tackle my Mums Compaq Presario C310EA. The aim is to remove all the rubbish she has accumulated over the years, incl any spyware/ adware she may have, and generally have a bit of a clean sweep…. hopefully resulting in a faster laptop. I’m backing up her data, and moving some of my Dad’s stuff somewhere else.

Basically I want to clean up as much as poss, but unfortunately she has no xp disk, just the recovery disks (cds) she burned when she first got the laptop.

As she has no xp disk I guess the best I can hope for is to reset the laptop to the factory settings (?) .. not ideal, but I don’t think the (factory set) bloatware is too much of an issue for her – she’s not a heavy user.

Should I use the recovery partition for this, or do I need to use the cds she burned? .

I’d like to know the best approach – and can’t seem to find a set of instructions to follow.

Acer :: Partition

Jun 21, 2009

while my HP laptop was being repaired at Best Buy, I needed a computer. Best Buy luckily has a program where you can buy an "open box" computer and return it with no restocking fees, etc. while yours is being repaired. I was fortunate enough to find an Acer 4730Z for under $300, which was great for a "temporary" fix. I fully intended to take it back after mine came home.

But, as I've used it, I've liked it, and my DH's laptop is slowly dying, so for that price, we think we are going to go ahead and keep this Acer for him.

My problem is this: the hard drive came divided into two equal drives, C and D, both with roughly 111 GBs. The main software seems to be on the C - there's only 73 GBs free there, where D is completely empty.

I know we could adjust, but everything document, picture, and music-wise wants to save to C, but obviously D is the more free space.

Can I unpartition this drive, or, at the very least, make D smaller so that there's more room on C, or switch the OS stuff to D and make C bigger?

Dell :: M1530 Partition

Basically today my download of the Win 7 beta finished, so i had to mess with partitions as i had 4 already taken up.

My HDD was in the same state as when i got it, with the partitions: C:/OS, D:/Recovery, ?:/MediaDirect, and ?:/the EISA Configuration one.

I backed up my D Recovery drives in 3 ways (to be sure) with a simple backup to my seagate external, acronis true image'd (then put on external), and Nero backed up (then burnt to dvd).

Anyways, i started up GParted and did the following:
1. Deleted the d drive
2. Resized C approximately 20gb less
