Mar 21, 2010I had a chance to stop by at apple store today, and compared the anti glare screens on both 15 inch and 17 inch models. To my surprise, the 15 inch one was much brighter than 17 inch one. I made sure that both had max brightness settings, and it was clear that 15 inch one was superior. maybe this 17 inch display model was defect? anyone has opposite experience? (btw, I hate seeing myself and losing focus because of reflective glassy screens)

Sep 16, 2009I bought a new Inspiron last week and got it yesterday - I am happy with it except feel a bit annoyed as I though wide screen of 15.6 would be the same as 15.4 normal screen in terms of height, but with a slightly wider screen.
It turns out that actually it is half an inch shorter! And 768 pixels high does not seem enough.
I looked into the 17inch model and for only £25 more I can get the same speced laptop.
Does anyone know how much I might get charged for returning the 15 inch to get the 17 inch (it has been within 21 days) ....

Feb 13, 2009Is there something currently wrong with the dv5t that I should know about? I keep hearing some people say there's a bad chip and that's why the 9600m gt isn't offered anymore.

Jun 20, 2009i have overclocked 9600m gt using f.05 bios and rivatuner.i have been facing some problems with f.05 bios like slow start up and shutdown times,and some other problems.so i tried updating my bios which solved above problems but i cant oc 9600m gt anymore with any bios upto f.16 bios except f.05 bios.i have tried all bios from hp.is there anyway to oc 9600m gt using any other bios rather than f.05 bios.

Jan 20, 2009Before I was highly contemplating about getting a dv5t witha 9600M GT but now all I see are 9200M GS...and this goes across the board for all the Dv series laptops (as far as I can see) Anyone know whats going on? This highly disturbs me since the 9200 GS is the ONLY option...even dell vostros have different GPUs.

Sep 21, 2009How would I go about underclocking my 9600m GT. I would basically only to do when I'm not gaming on it. I thought I saw ATI/AMD PowerPlay, I guess you can underclock with this on ATI GPUs.
Is there an equivalent for Nvidia GPUs? I'm running Windows 7 x64.

Jan 24, 2009I got my HP DV5t about 4-5 mos. ago. The graphics card which is a 9600m GT is definitely starting to fail. When ever I start to play graphically intensive games like COD4 or CS 1.6 the screen begins to freeze and the computer says the display driver failed while other times it causes a BSOD. This used to happen occasionally about 1-2 mos. ago but now it happens very often. I updated my drivers as soon as I got the laptop and always lifted the back for better airflow while gaming but apparently it didnt help.

Mar 22, 2009Apple will mail me a new 17 inch MBP unibody(Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66, 4G memory, 320G hard drive) and I found out that I like the 15 inch MBP unibody more (lighter yet the same powerful machine). Is there anyway that I can take it back to apple store and exchange for a 15 inch MBP?

15.4 inch LED screen (1440 x 900)
160 gb 5400 rpm HD
2 gb of ram (the standard that it came with) - 667 mhz ddr2 sdram
GPU: nVidia Geforce 8600M GT with 256mb
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 ghz (T7700)
Superdrive: 4x DVD+R DL writes, 8x DVD+/-R read/write, 4x DVD+/-RW writes, 24x CD-R, and 10x CD-RW recording
No applecare left on it
Condition: Very minor wear and tear, but its in excellent condition because its been in a speck plastic case from day one with all the protective casing features below and kept in a neoprene sleeve when on the go
Battery: there are two, one is absolute shot (as in it lasts about 1 minute before i get a low battery warning), the other is brand new and hasnt been opened yet
Accessories: it also came with a brand new (not even opened) battery, a full body speck plastic case, rubber keyboard cover, trackpad film cover, and rubbery/felt like cover for the part below the keyboard and trackpad buttons, oh and a 15 inch neoprene sleeve...my sister is sort of a freak about protecting it............

Feb 9, 2009i have a weird problem with my webcam , sometimes when i wanna use it , i open youcam it give me that it cant connect to the device so i need to close all applications that use this webcam while i have no softwares running so i have to restart in order to make it work one day i restarted and the same error occured again so i had to restart a second time :s also , to save threads i will ask here a question about my geforce 9600mgt performance it's good with games and i like it , though it was less than expected if u ask me when i play call of duty 5 and there's a scene where there's lots of smoke or fire from the fl;amethrower it the game becomes ridicously slow untill the smoke disappears and i will be able to play smoothly again anyway my question is not about this , i noticed that the performance of the card isn't always the same sometimes it works great and sometimes i notice that games barely run , even less demanding games like nba 2007 for example for example call of duty 4 , sometimes it works incredibly and some other times don't , isn't it weird ?

Are these safe to install on my DV7T? I notice HP has never issued an official graphics driver update for this notebook. The one and only version from them is from November 2008.
The release highlights has me salivating - particularly the bit about a 45% increase in Mirror's Edge with antialiasing enabled. Since there are about 7 months of driver updates in this release I should see some big improvements in my games.

I remember the dv5t coming with a 9600m gt but looks like HP pulled a failure card and now they have weak chips in the 15 inch models. I was hoping to keep it somewhat lightweight meaning under 6 lbs, but not sacrifice gameplay while it's plugged in and a decent battery life for mobile word processing and web surfing (no gameplay).

I'm currently using the 179.04 driver from HP and have managed to overlcock it (see specs in sig below) by using RivaTuner 2.22 and following the advice in this thread HP DV5T 9600M GT Overclocking Guide
This yielded 5581 3DMarks and raised my WEI Gaphics score to 5.9 and Gaming Graphics to 5.5.
However, my experience with trying later drivers has not been stable.
What driver is working for you?

Jun 12, 2009I'm trying to decide between a HP 6930p (14.1") or 8530p (15.4"). I would prefer a 14 inch laptop. However, the 6930p only has a VGA port; the 8530p has an HDMI port. Probably 50% of the time its in use, it will be connected to a 24 inch display (a Dell 2408wfp).
I am concerned about the difference in picture quality between the VGA versus the digital connection? In practice, how much difference am I likely to notice? I will be using it mainly for office type work.

Feb 20, 2009I just bought a 2530p, with 1.8-inch 120GB hardisk. The partition is assigned as below.
- 101GB for C:
- 9GB for D: (HP_Recovery )
- 1GB for F: (HP_Tools)
I would like to replace existing 120GB HD with larger one, and would like to ask some question.
1. what is the largest size of 1.8-inch hardisk for 2530p? I refer to "Service and maintenance information" manual, the hardisk size seems only up to 160GB, could I installed 260GB or even larger hardisk?
2. Is it neceessary to keep the partition of HP_Tools or HP_recovery?
(if I delete the partition 'HP_Tools' or 'HP_recvoery', can the OS be booted up?)

Apr 6, 2009any display oddities when using the 9600M on the 17-inch Crapbook Pro in spite of (or possibly, because of...?) the firmware update.
I get 'tearing' of the window contents quite often - e.g. when scrolling in Finder, but also similar display issues in other applications as well. It's pretty annoying. Before the probably inevitable call to Applecare I was wondering if there was anything I could do about it? I've seen it on both of the machines I use in the main, while I haven't seen it on the spare - although this is probably because I only power it on to keep the machine in sync.

Nov 16, 2009I am ready to purchase a new MBP that I will use all day long with hotcomm voice and picture chat, email, powerpoint, word, excel,browsing, and a professional stock trading application called realtick that will run through vm ware or parallels and skype. This will not be my only computer but it is the one I would like to use the most. I am sensitive to heat problems and am considering the 2.4 processor because I have it in my head that it may run cooler. I recently used a thinkpad, (i know not a direct comparison), with a t9300 and dedicated video and it was so hot it could______ fill in blanks... Ultimately the heat is what killed the motherboard so I would like to stay as cool as reasonable.
I am considering the refurbished 2.4 15" with the nvida 9600m GT and 9400m GPU's because I like the price. I also think I can get some value from the dedicated video on my stock charts, (but am really not sure). I do not want to outsmart myself and get the wrong thing. Would someone here with some experience maybe give me an opinion if I should be looking at the 2.53 15" without the switchable video. The heat is one issue, but the other is my realtick charting software that will have to run under windows xp that I am concerned about with regard to needing the stronger GPU.

Aug 23, 2009so tomorrow my friend will put his laptop together, (he will get the ati 3670 card, he could get the 4670 (if he paid some extra money) but he is not some super-gamer and said he could live with 3670 without any problem.
i knew that ati 3670 512mb and nvidia 9600M gt 512mb was pretty similar, but ati 3670 performs actaully better, (quite much better).
