I am ready to purchase a new MBP that I will use all day long with hotcomm voice and picture chat, email, powerpoint, word, excel, browsing, and a professional stock trading application called realtick that will run through vm ware or parallels and skype. This will not be my only computer but it is the one I would like to use the most. I am sensitive to heat problems and am considering the 2.4 processor because I have it in my head that it may run cooler. I recently used a thinkpad, (i know not a direct comparison), with a t9300 and dedicated video and it was so hot it could______ fill in blanks... Ultimately the heat is what killed the motherboard so I would like to stay as cool as reasonable.
I am considering the refurbished 2.4 15" with the nvida 9600m GT and 9400m GPU's because I like the price. I also think I can get some value from the dedicated video on my stock charts, (but am really not sure). I do not want to outsmart myself and get the wrong thing. Would someone here with some experience maybe give me an opinion if I should be looking at the 2.53 15" without the switchable video. The heat is one issue, but the other is my realtick charting software that will have to run under windows xp that I am concerned about with regard to needing the stronger GPU.
I just want to get an idea of the power of the 9600m GT video card that comes with the macbook pro's. Now on my desktop computer I have a 3 year old ATI 1600x 512mb PCI-e video card which is definitely getting old. My question is can anybody tell me how the 9600m GT compares to the ATI 1600x, is it better? this way I can get an idea of the power of the 9600m GT because I know pretty well what the 1600x is capable of.
what video drivers are working for other owners of the HDX16t.
I'm currently using the 179.04 driver from HP and have managed to overlcock it (see specs in sig below) by using RivaTuner 2.22 and following the advice in this thread HP DV5T 9600M GT Overclocking Guide
This yielded 5581 3DMarks and raised my WEI Gaphics score to 5.9 and Gaming Graphics to 5.5.
However, my experience with trying later drivers has not been stable.
any display oddities when using the 9600M on the 17-inch Crapbook Pro in spite of (or possibly, because of...?) the firmware update.
I get 'tearing' of the window contents quite often - e.g. when scrolling in Finder, but also similar display issues in other applications as well. It's pretty annoying. Before the probably inevitable call to Applecare I was wondering if there was anything I could do about it? I've seen it on both of the machines I use in the main, while I haven't seen it on the spare - although this is probably because I only power it on to keep the machine in sync.
I been watching Crysis gameplay footage on Youtube and have noticed some pop up on the lower spec MBP.
Would foliage appearing as if by magic be a result of having less memory in the GPU? or would it be down to system memory, the CPU or another factor I'm unaware of?
when the MBP first came out, but with no results other than people saying it would get too hot... maybe now people have had some experience with overclocking it on the MBP?
I gather you can essentially patch the firmware so it behaves as a 9700m GT. Are there other ways, as that sounds risky to me? Anyone overclocked theirs?
Alternatively, do any recent drivers give significantly better results?
I have been playing with nvidia powermizer but as soon as i started scrolling down webpages, the gpu temp would increase. So i requested help and was referred to this thread: [How To] Use Rivatuner as a better "Powermizer" alternative
I followed the instructions but i was still getting mid 60's degress celcius on my gpu(i set it on low power 2d). I wasn't quite satisfied. After considerable research i found out a program called lubbo's fan control. There was a previous version released which was a fiasco. However, i noticed something. That one had a releae date of 20-jan-2010. I decided to try it and wow!! That is a keeper!!! I can select the maximum rpm of my fans, the minimum rpm. I can even go below 2000rpm (But i didnt risk it). The most interesting feature is that i can select what us the maximum temperature i want my system to be. I chose 60c and now, while i'm typing this, my gpu is reading 56c. That's the first time i'm getting a steady sub 60 temp. It isnt going less and it isnt going more than 56c. My fans rpm are at 5000 but while listening to a music or even using it without music, it isnt that disturbing. Also, it will kill your keyboard manager. Who cares and who needs it. We can control the keyboard from the bootcamp manager.
One last thing that i will add is that this software detects both gpu's (9400m + 9600m), a proof that the apple guys are being lazy to provide the gpu switching software. Tested working in w7. To make it start everytime you log on, just create a task and schedule it to run when you have logged on.
Is it possible for OSX to play scm files? Unfortunately, I thought I do not need window XP already any more. And, I don't want install a window just for playing scm files...
I was talking to my brother in law and i could hear the fans speeding up , so i started activity monitor , and it said skype was using 80% cpu and 40 threads what ever that is, I have an T9600 CPU at 2.8Ghz
I found my old HI8 Video camera a while back & just found an Adpator at FRY's the will charge my old out dated batteries.
So I figure its time to start shooting some video again with it. on HI8.
But wonder what might be involved with pluging in my older video cameras RCA cables into my Mac & making it all download to my I-Movie or whatever I have to do?
Do I just plug it in with an adaptor & go? Or do I need some sort of program?
Yesterday, everything was running smoothly. My MBP was churning away running Fusion with an instance of XP, nothing too major. Today though, the video is out completely. I can't even get to the option menu on bootup to get it to switch to a Boot Camped Windows 7 (the boot up screen doesn't even show). So... what do I do now? The warranty is out. Am I out of luck? Any tricks I can try? I do plan on taking it to the nearby Apple store to see what they can do. I vaguely remember hearing something about the NVidia chips burning out, but the thing is I wasn't doing anything graphics intensive to begin with.
I even thought I might have dimmed the screen all the way, but using the keyboard to brighten it up didn't solve it. It wouldn't work anyway since even the boot screen doesn't show anything (not even the grey screen).
This is the bane of my existence. System 1: HP DV4 AMD Turion 2.1GHz proc 4GB DDR2 Ram WD Scorp BLue 250GB HDD A really good dedicated Graphics card, could play Civ 4 at fairly high settings, 1280x800 no problems.
Now I tried to play the ESiR rip of Saving Private Ryan, no juice. I tried it in Win 7, nothing, I installed Win 7 RC1, still couldn't do it. I'm talking a new installation, no software, just VLC.
NOW, the funny thing is my friend, on his Black Macbook (2.4GHz, 4GB ram, bad Intel Int GFX) can play blueray rips PERFECTLY, while doing a million other things.
SO I buy his laptop because he upgraded, install a fresh copy of OSX, and guess what? It still dosen't play (although the hardware is 1000x better than HP's) I don't understand why VLC uses ALL of my CPU, and when I close EVERYTHING, and restart finder 8 times because I can't close it, the thing still stutters. I can watch stuff, but it will freeze on a frame and stutter.
It's not just private ryan, I have Terminator 2, 3, 1, and a lot of other movies.
My friend says it might be the MKV file container, because when he was playing them on his brand new uMBP, they went fine, but he couldn't skip through the video without it glitching (pause and unpause to shake off the 'blocks'). I've never really been able to skip through a video without it hanging or getting the 'blocks'. Even a 10mb AVI sometimes gives me issues. He said it was a bad rip because he couldn't freely 'scroll' through the video.
Could this be some hardware issue? 720P AVIs do seem fine, but everyone puts their stuff into MKV. I thought MKV was better than AVI.
If I convert these into H.264 or something, will that solve the problem?
Is there something currently wrong with the dv5t that I should know about? I keep hearing some people say there's a bad chip and that's why the 9600m gt isn't offered anymore.
i have overclocked 9600m gt using f.05 bios and rivatuner.i have been facing some problems with f.05 bios like slow start up and shutdown times, and some other problems.so i tried updating my bios which solved above problems but i cant oc 9600m gt anymore with any bios upto f.16 bios except f.05 bios.i have tried all bios from hp.is there anyway to oc 9600m gt using any other bios rather than f.05 bios.
Before I was highly contemplating about getting a dv5t witha 9600M GT but now all I see are 9200M GS...and this goes across the board for all the Dv series laptops (as far as I can see) Anyone know whats going on? This highly disturbs me since the 9200 GS is the ONLY option...even dell vostros have different GPUs.
How would I go about underclocking my 9600m GT. I would basically only to do when I'm not gaming on it. I thought I saw ATI/AMD PowerPlay, I guess you can underclock with this on ATI GPUs.
Is there an equivalent for Nvidia GPUs? I'm running Windows 7 x64.
I got my HP DV5t about 4-5 mos. ago. The graphics card which is a 9600m GT is definitely starting to fail. When ever I start to play graphically intensive games like COD4 or CS 1.6 the screen begins to freeze and the computer says the display driver failed while other times it causes a BSOD. This used to happen occasionally about 1-2 mos. ago but now it happens very often. I updated my drivers as soon as I got the laptop and always lifted the back for better airflow while gaming but apparently it didnt help.
I recently found I don't have a Firewire port on my Desktop pc becuase I have a custom case ... so I am trying to use IMovieHD on my Macbook to import my video but whenever I set it all up and click import it just says camera playing with a blue screen... the camcorder plays but it doesn't import anything... what's going on! I have had problems like this with Macs forever and I'm getting a wee bit frustrated at this point
We've been trying different clients to chat with back and forth from a pc to a mac, iChat to AIM, yahoo, etc. Each one we try there is a prob, audio on one end, no video on the other, etc. Has anyone had a succeful video chat between a pc and a mac? If so how?
