View 6 RepliesI was on ebay yesterday and noticed a bit of smoke coming from the side of my laptop; then it turned itself off. It's a 2 year old Compaq Presario V6000TX CTO Notebook PC (GQ362AV). There is no visible sign of damage anywhere on the exterior of the laptop or battery. I custom ordered my laptop direct from compaq and luckly I did not get the bad battery.
Bought an usb enclosure for the HD.. currently backing it up to my other external HD via my dad's computer..
From what I've read these heatsinks are notorious for causing a gap and overheating the chip..
I have a Presario V6000 and i love it, but just recently ive started to get vertical lines on my LCD. so far there are 4 groups, maybe 3-4 pixles wide that run the length of the monitor. I've priced out new monitors at around $100, but my concern is: is it the LCD going bad or is it the signal cable?

What difference in temperetures and performance could I expect?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario V6700 Notebook, with Realtek high-def audio running OS Vista Home premium.
I purchaced in July 08 and no problems at all with it until Feb 09.
In Feb my sound stopped working from the internal speakers. I tried updating and reinstalling drivers for the sound (used correct drivers from Compaq website) and it still didn't work so I have just used the headphones in the past two months.
I am now in a situation where I need the internal speakers to work, so I have tried updating/reinstalling the drivers again and no go. After doing some more research I have tried doing a system restore to before the issue began in Feb and still no sound.
I then did a complete restore back to scratch so I had a fresh new OS and STILL no sound from internal speakers.
to replace my Compaq V6000 AMD motherboard to an Intel. i am one of the victims of Nvidia GPU failure and i need to replace my motherboard to Intel. The original motherboard part number is 443777-001. i am aware of replacing amd cpu and fan to an intel which i have it on hand. i check Hp support and there are several intel motherboard numbers available to get such as part number 434725-001 but not sure if its the right part.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to help my ex GF out here with her laptop and playing WoW on it.
for starters, her system is as follows:
Vista Home Premium 32-bit
2gb DDRII 667 ( 2x 1gb )
MK-36 2ghz 512k L2 single coe
Geforce Go 6150 ( default vista drivers via win update )
I know she plays the new expansion with all the updates but don't ask me what that all is cause I treat WoW like the plague so Idk.
The problem she says she's having is lines or missing textures in certain areas. At first I thoguth it might be a lack of ram or bad ram as she had the orig 2x 512mb modules so I got her the 2gb kit and she said it made the machine faster but didn't fix the glitches.

I dropped my dv2000t Pavilion laptop and now the dvd tray won't open. Maybe I need to replace the tray. I need to take the laptop apart and I wonder does anybody know where there are instructions on disassembly of the laptop. Also, how can I buy parts to replace broken parts?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi just disassembled my dv5t to fix an issue i was having with the screen. the screen seems to work fine now however it is running ungodly slow.
in order to get to my screen cables i had to take out the Following:
-hard drive
-WLAN module
-Switch cover & keyboard
-the display bezel
i'm not exactly sure what might be causing this because it was working just fine (except for my screen issue) before the disassembly
also it seems to run a little bit better in safe mode but its still slow
after playing with it for a while its main problem is booting and programs are crashing. it takes about 10 minutes to fully boot and then it runs at a normal speed however programs keep crashing like crazy.

I need disassembly instructions to replace the SSD in my bosses VGN-TZ190N. Can anyone help? I can't find anything searching the net
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for some instructions to take apart the VGN-AW190.
The main thing is to take off the keyboard so I can look and clean underneath.
where I can find a disassembly guide for the VGN-TZ250N.
I cracked the screen and have a replacement in hand but have been unable to figure out how to take it apart properly.
I have found some online for the older version but they seem to have changed the way the pc is built.
I'm trying to find a disassembly manual for a Sony Vaio VGN-CR series notebook. The reason being is that I need to access the part where the LCD cable harness connects to the motherboard. I am currently having display issues and I need to check and/or replace the LCD cable.
My screen is giving me weird, distorted colors with lines across the screen. It's either going to be a faulty cable or LCD screen. I have it hooked up to an external monitor and the display is great. That eliminates the graphics card/motherboard. The lines and colors will move up and down the screen randomly.
how to open my laptop. By open, I mean disassemble. My Vaio, which I have bought around Christmas of last year, has had it's fan spinning unreasonably loud. At first, I said to myself, "alright, I will be blow compressed air into it," I did so. No avail, the sound comes back, it comes on and off, on and off. It is ridiculous. Even when it is not overheating, or hot; just mildly warm, it would spin loud. On and off.
When I now start my laptop, the fan spins loud for a second and stops.
For instance, tonight I had the laptop on for awhile, and I touched the bottom, it was hot, yet it made zero fan noise until I pick it up and carried it across the room. Can someone diagnose this issue for me? I even talked to a Sony technician about cleaning my fan or whatever and he said that this is a known issue.
Known issue? I cannot even Google this as a known issue, ? I then talked to another Sony tech. He told me to go to the fan settings via:
Control Panel > Power Options > Change Power Options > Advance Power Settings > VAIO Optimized > VAIO Power Management > Fan settings.
Issue.
There were no such thing as fan settings. I swear, some of these technicians are probably reading from the screen telling the user what to do, etc. I am fairly knowledgeable with computers, but I swear, some of the technicians do not know what they're talking about. At any rate, I do NOT know how to take my laptop apart. All I want to do is to clean the fan.
The tech. told me to to go to a Sony shop and get it fixed as they cannot tell me how to open it. I bought this laptop from Newegg; I did not buy a warranty, there's a warranty for parts or something? I don't even know.
Anyway. I have unscrewed all of the screws and it still would not bulge, would pictures of my laptop help any of you into dismantling it to get to the fan?
I've found it on some site for repair manuals. I guess it might be helpful when updating/upgrading/repairing your lovely TT's. It is still not as good as the one for the VAIO Z but you can always give me reputation points for finding it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd post this in a new thread instead of replying to my other one since the disassembly pictures could be helpful to people.
Right off, in my other thread I mentioned that Dell told me there were 2 rev's of motherboards (one if you order through the Home portal and a different one if you order through the Small Biz portal), and that the Home rev doesn't support Bluetooth (or WWAN, which is why these things didn't show up for me as options when ordering the laptop). So this morning I took the thing apart to see for myself.
Conclusion - From what I can tell, it appears that any 14z has a full size mini-PCI slot (for WWAN), a half-height mini-PCI slot (for wireless networking), and the mini plug necessary to install the Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth mini-card. Dell support is a bunch of morons.
Steps to disassemble:
1) Remove battery. Here is what the computer looks like with the batter removed.
2) Remove keyboard trim ring. This is totally held in by plastic snaps (yuk...I seem to have an easy time breaking these if not careful). If you flip the laptop upside down and look under where the battery goes, you can see a could of little tabs that show through. You can use a small flathead screwdriver to pop these loose from the backside.
Then flip the laptop keyboard up and carefully work your way around the rest of the trim ring until you have it totally loose.

I have Vaio VGN-SZ1M (bought in 2006) that I need to take apart. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to pop out the keyboard. I have removed the "relevant" four screws from the bottom, then figured that the part between keyboard and display doesn't seem to be removable (as it is with my even older, super slow Toshiba Satellite I am relying on right now), and now I am stuck. Does anybody know where to find a disassembly guide? - Preferably a step-by-step guide as I am not only a blonde but also not exactly super computer-savvy (as this thread clearly demonstrates). Or does anybody know how to take this notebook apart?
For some reason the VGN-SZ1M (or VGN-SZ1M/B) has two different model names printed on it, the other one being "PCG-6J2M", but according to the Sony website the "PCG-6..." model number is used "for different purposes" - no idea what that means - and the "real" model number is VGN-SZ1M).
I have spent the past two hours trying to find a disassembly guide online (or just a quick "how to pop out/remove the keyboard" explanation, but haven't been successful. I have also tried to get in touch with Sony's customer service in the U.S., however, they cannot (or won't) help me because the laptop was bought in Germany (where I was living at that time), so the U.S. customer support doesn't feel responsible (or so), and the customer support in German doesn't apply because I am now located in the United States. Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place. Don't take this as a rant, please, it's not meant as venting. Just trying to explain my level of "stuck-ness".
I've seen the 3810t but never the 4810t... but i found the Pics here:

Also, my proc is the T2600, not the one is this review, but other than that exactly the same. I am looking to play around with this because it is old and I dont care too much if I fry it since my new hotness is on the way.
