HP Envy M6 Audio :: Notebook PC On Windows 8.1 Has No Sound
Nov 6, 2014My Windows 8.1 Envy m6 is not playing sound through either the internal or external speakers.
I have tried the following fixes with the following results:
1) run troubleshooter - audio services not running. Unable to start it; error states endpoint is duplicate
2) update drivers - no fix (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC - 6.10.6433.0)
3) Change System Sounds - fails to play test tone
4) Device Manager - shows the system is running
5) Restore - no fix

I have uninstalled/re-installed the driver, rebooted, and still no sound. When I right-click Speakers/HP, and Test - the pop-up says Device in Use. There are no legit applications using the device. I have been running Windows Defender since I used the official HP Recovery Discs I ordered. I have not visited questionable websites, yet, it looks like I have malware?

Feb 23, 2014I use an HP ENVY M6 notebook running Windows 8.1, 64 bit. I was seeing a lot of unwanted popups telling me I needed Java or other add ons which I don't. The computer is less than a month old. I went to that day's downloads and deleted everything I found from that day. Since then, I have no sound. I probably deleted something but I thought I was pretty careful. Can I download a sound card?

Jul 16, 2014Okay, well the day before yesterday I was trying to watch Youtube but when I clicked on a video it had no sound. I thought it was Youtube, so I exited the site and thought I'd wait a little bit. So then I went to Spotify to listen to some music. I kept clicking and clicking and nothing was happening. Then I noticed a blue notice at the top that said something about my soundcard not working properly.
I then checked everything on my computer to see if it had sound. Windows Media Player...no, videos on Facebook...nope, nothing was working. At first I thought it was my daughter. I let her watch Youtube when she lays down for a nap. I came in the other day and she was hitting all kinds of buttons on my computer. I stopped her though and everything seemed fine. I also remember my computer updating that day. Could it be that something went wrong with the update? I don't know if that's possible or not.
And also, what is a soundcard. Do I have to buy it or do I download it???
I went to Yahoo answers and someone said to uninstall the drivers. I did that and then reinstalled them and it worked. The rest of that day I had sound on everything except for Facebook. Yesterday night it happened again and the sound has not returned since but my computer sounds are still working. When I logged on the computer made the log in sound it usually makes. I also tried to listen to a video with headphones and it still did not work. Again, I uninstalled the drivers and then re installed them and got nothing.

Jan 23, 2014I have a HP ENVY TS 15-j004sa Notebook PC running windows 8.1with Beats Audio Under normal circumstances, listening to music or films close up with no other sounds around, the volume is not a problem. But, if i need to raise the volume either because i am further away or because there is some other distracting sound, I find myself very limited in how much i can raise the sound - and i am not talking about trying to get an ear splitting volume.
This is true even if i have everything at max: the Windows 8.1 Settings volume, the volume control on the task bar of the desktop and the volume control on the application.Is there anything i can do to give more flexibility to the volume?

Lately I've been having issues with the sound, which I believe to be temperature related and I wasn't sure whether to put this in the audio or hardware board.
Anyway, at least once a day I have to restart because any sound output-- videos, skype calls, music-- beging to stutter severely and sound how I can only describe as "robotic." After restarting, it goes back to normal. There are no error messages, the system just begins to lag and affected programs become unresponsive.
Usually when this happens, I notice that my device is unusually hot. Ever since I purchased it, I have never heard or felt air moving in the vents so I'm not sure if the fan is functional. I'm afraid to take it apart to make sure in case that voids the warranty, but I suspect excessive heat might be damaging the components related to this issue.
The default sound device is Realtek High Definition Audio

Feb 5, 2013I've had this problem a few times but at random it seems to fix itself. I'm an new IT tech and i'm truly stumpted by this.
Computer: hp folio 13 - 2000 notebook pc: all drivers and software fully updated and 100% virus free. I use the computer mostly on a closed network.
Issue: The sound has random long periods of time where the sound is either on or off. Checked and reinstalled drivers, restarted, went through all the windows audio settings and still cant seem to pin point the issue. I'm considering just replacing the build in speakers and wiring if I dont find a solution soon.
