I have tried the following fixes with the following results:
1) run troubleshooter - audio services not running. Unable to start it; error states endpoint is duplicate
2) update drivers - no fix (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC - 6.10.6433.0)
3) Change System Sounds - fails to play test tone
4) Device Manager - shows the system is running
5) Restore - no fix

The computer is less than a month old. I went to that day's downloads and deleted everything I found from that day. Since then, I have no sound. I probably deleted something but I thought I was pretty careful. Can I download a sound card?

Jul 16, 2014Okay, well the day before yesterday I was trying to watch Youtube but when I clicked on a video it had no sound. I thought it was Youtube, so I exited the site and thought I'd wait a little bit. So then I went to Spotify to listen to some music. I kept clicking and clicking and nothing was happening. Then I noticed a blue notice at the top that said something about my soundcard not working properly.
I then checked everything on my computer to see if it had sound. Windows Media Player...no, videos on Facebook...nope, nothing was working. At first I thought it was my daughter. I let her watch Youtube when she lays down for a nap. I came in the other day and she was hitting all kinds of buttons on my computer. I stopped her though and everything seemed fine. I also remember my computer updating that day. Could it be that something went wrong with the update? I don't know if that's possible or not.
And also, what is a soundcard. Do I have to buy it or do I download it???
I went to Yahoo answers and someone said to uninstall the drivers. I did that and then reinstalled them and it worked. The rest of that day I had sound on everything except for Facebook. Yesterday night it happened again and the sound has not returned since but my computer sounds are still working. When I logged on the computer made the log in sound it usually makes. I also tried to listen to a video with headphones and it still did not work. Again, I uninstalled the drivers and then re installed them and got nothing.

The speaker icon in the bottom right corner has a small red x on it, when i have the mouse over it, it says 'no audio output device is installed'. I found that updating the driver in sounds via the at control panel but this the said:

I may watch a video with no problem, but on the next video the sound will be off. I have tried everything. Uninstalling the IDT codec and re-installing it and un-checking the exclusive mode. The same thing happens even after installing the latest IDT Codec (6.10.6425.0). When audio is off, I'm trying to test the speakers and the message that this device is being used by another application, is appearing.

The audio on my laptop is not working. The mute stays on, even when I press the physcial keyboard button to enable sound, and try to enable sound with my mouse from the volume menu. Nothing has audio.

I have no audio. It has been previously working, but suddenly stopped. On the small speaker icon there is a red cross indicating "No Audio Output Device is enabled" When I log on to the computer i get a window that says "CWindowsSystem32AUDIOSES.DLL is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error."
I have attempted to Troubleshoot but unable to get any sound. I have updated the Audio driver, but it is the up to date driver.

Aug 12, 2014I have an HP 15-d035dx Notebook PC.
Lately I've been having issues with the sound, which I believe to be temperature related and I wasn't sure whether to put this in the audio or hardware board.
Anyway, at least once a day I have to restart because any sound output-- videos, skype calls, music-- beging to stutter severely and sound how I can only describe as "robotic." After restarting, it goes back to normal. There are no error messages, the system just begins to lag and affected programs become unresponsive.
Usually when this happens, I notice that my device is unusually hot. Ever since I purchased it, I have never heard or felt air moving in the vents so I'm not sure if the fan is functional. I'm afraid to take it apart to make sure in case that voids the warranty, but I suspect excessive heat might be damaging the components related to this issue.
The default sound device is Realtek High Definition Audio

Feb 5, 2013I've had this problem a few times but at random it seems to fix itself. I'm an new IT tech and i'm truly stumpted by this.
Computer: hp folio 13 - 2000 notebook pc: all drivers and software fully updated and 100% virus free. I use the computer mostly on a closed network.
Issue: The sound has random long periods of time where the sound is either on or off. Checked and reinstalled drivers, restarted, went through all the windows audio settings and still cant seem to pin point the issue. I'm considering just replacing the build in speakers and wiring if I dont find a solution soon.

Aug 11, 2014I have an HP Pavillion g6 and the sound is not working at all. I tried troubleshooting the audio playback and then it started working. Then i realized only the system sounds started working.
When i play a video or any audio on my browser (Google Chrome and Internet Explorer) it does not work, but when i play a video/audio downloaded onto the pc, it works. Why is that?
I checked all my browser settings aswell and nothing is wrong.

May 29, 2014I have a fairly new (purchased in April) HP Pavilion TS 15 Notebook PC. The audio isn't working, and I'm not sure how long this has been going on or if it ever worked. The speaker bars on the task bar look like sound is coming through, but I can't hear anything through the laptop speakers and only light static when using headphones.
