Laptop was working fine but for some reason is now starts up with a blue dialog box asking for an admin or power on password.
After several goes it now gives me a 'system disabled' dialog with the code 71086585.
Grandpa did something to his computer. He has been locked out and the system will not boot.
"Power on Password" prompt, dont know the password.. three times and the code i get is:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to fix my neighbours computer, it's a Pavilion dm3 and somehow she managed to completly lock the system. When it boots it just asks for the administrator password and will not continue to boot, not even bios menu is available.
I've read some other posts on this forum that the way to unlock it is to post the "halt code" given when 3 passwords have failed, in my case that code is: 51019908
Also, how does one even end up in this state, I've never seen this kind of lockdown before?
After replacing the fan, I have a power up issue with the laptop. Basically, the laptop will only power on with the power cable disconnected at the motherboard. It was by mistake that after the fan was replaced and everything was put back together, that I noticed that the battery was not charging.
I then reopened the machine and reconnected the power cable to the motherboard and nothing - no power.
When plugging in the power source with the battery in place, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE then stays ORANGE and will not power up. No other lights, no fan noise, nothing.
If I remove the battery, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE and stays white however will not power up either. Same agin, no other LEDs, not fan noise, nothing.
I have now opened the machine back up and disconnected the power from the motherboard. Put it all back together and the laptop powers up as normal with the battery and it works fine. (Well until the battery runs out anyway).
I have an HP Pavillion model 17-e019dx running Windows 8. Every time I turn it on, it stops at a blue screen that says
Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
A required device isn't connected or cannot be accessed
Error code 0xc000000f
When I press enter to "Try again" it come back with:
File:WindowsSystem32winload.efi above the error code listed above.
I have tried the Recovery and after MUCH time waiting, it still comes back to the above mentioned screen. I have also run all the diagnostics that are available on the laptop and everything come back normal. I don't have the original discs or documentation as I "received this laptop as a "gift/curse" . It is, however, registered to me.

I purchased a Pavilion g7 laptop in December 2012. The 1TB HDD that came with the laptop started to go bad on me. After several attempts to 'system self-repair' (which failed) I purchased a replacement Seagate SSHD 1TB HD. Since I did not have any Windows 8 recovery discs I contacted HP, paid for and had them sent to me.
So now I have a new SSHD, new W8 recovery discs and my laptop. I replaced the HD and started the recovery process per the paper instructions that came with the discs.
At 4% (in the 'Copying files required to restore the hard drive phase') I get an error message:

Press OK to retry.
Obviously since I'm posting about this simply pressing 'OK to retry' did not work. I powered the laptop down and restarted the recovery process. I got the same error message at the same point described above.

...but charger is plugged in. Let battery run down a bit and plugged it in, and got same error while it was actively charging battery....

When I press the power button it flashes once there and on the CapsLock key, then goes dark. I've tried removing the battery and power cord, holding down the power button for a minute, then plugging in the power cord. Same result.

I use my computer for work and I've got about 30 minutes before I have to leave. Is it safe to unplug the computer while in reset mode? I tried to get into bios pressing ESCAPE or F10 after restart but same nothingness. If I can't get my lappie working, I would at least like to get data off it.

I have a HP Pavilion M6-1045DX laptop and I recently tried to plug it into a display through the Analog RGB and I saw a spark and the laptop shut off. During that time I ran the laptop straight from the AC adapter without a battery because I don't really use it.So the laptop shut off and I tried turning it back on and nothing happened. The charge indicator light turned off even though it was still plugged in. I thought maybe the power adapter stopped working or something but I tested it with a voltmeter and there was still power in it.
So I decided to put the battery in and the laptop was able to turn on, but after a while, this one area that i never felt heat there before was really hot and later smelled like something was burning.But anyway, when it booted up, the screen resolution was really low and was on maximum brightness. When the laptop finished booting, it randomly started installing drivers (such as the WLAN and intel rapid storage) and yeah. Sound doesn't work either. I tried to plug the laptop back in and the battery won't charge.I turned it off and took out the battery and tried running it off from the AC adapter only but the power light was blinking constantly and when I press it, the WiFi button light (F12) turned on for a second and back off. I also hear this high frequency noise that I never heard before somewhere in the laptop.
My laptop wont turn on, whenever I press the power button all the lights light up for about a second, I here the fans turn on and then it shuts off. When I plug the charger in the the charger light blinks, but thats it.

hp support page for my laptop showed a newer bios available,so i installed it and from then my laptop shows black screen i.e it switches on and keeps blinking capslock twice and 2 sec interval and repeats.i searched the internet and found that twice capslock signifies bios failure.so i thougth of following the win+B method,but the problem here is,when i extracted my bios package sp*****.exe i have 2 *.bin files and i dont know where to paste them on my pendrive.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHave an Envy M6-K010DX notebook. Due to an internet problem while upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1, the PC doesn't properly boot and Windows Explorer won't load. Decided to 'Refresh' the OS and went to the F11 restore utilities. When I go to the refresh utility and follow the prompts I reach a message that says, "The drive where windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I've searched support for unlocking instructions and aside from some bootrec commands (that didn't work - probably because I don't have a Win 8 disk) not much is available.
The only access I have for running commands is via the Task Manager and F11 command prompt. What is this 'locked' drive, anyway?
