Lenovo B / G Series :: G710 Won't Detect Any SSD Drives At BIOS
Dec 4, 2014
I have a Lenovo G710 8GB i3. I wanted to swap out the slow 1TB WD HDD for an SDD, but the BIOS or windows installation just wont detect it. SATA is set to AHCI and boot is set to UFEI. The SSD works fine on a 5 year old Advent laptop.I have also tried a different SSD with Windows already installed on it, and that wasn't detected either.

I have a G710 (about a year old). I had some Windows problems recently and luckily managed to sort these out but I have recently discovered that my CD/DVD drive is not recognised by various programs. I have run Lenovo solution centre and that points me towards Windows Device Manager. That says that 'Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)'. am not confident with this sort of thing but I really need to get this working.

I recently downgraded my G710 from Windows 8 (which it came with), to Windows 7. The only issue I've noticed is that it does not display anything on screen when you use the function keys, such as the volume up or down, or bright ness up or down. The keys work, but it would be nice to see on screen that my volume is set at 2% vs say 100% when I'm turning it up or down.

I have a brand new Ideapad G710 with 1TB Serial ATA 2, 5400rpm with advertised speed of 3 Gb/s (= 384MB/s). I am running Windows 7 ultimate x64 with SP1.
When I test hard drive read/write speed (I used CrystalDiskMark) I get results of about 100MB/s, which is 3-4 times slower than it should be. I am not running any resource heavy applications (Resource monitor reports Disk I/O to be 0 most of the time in idle state). I have 3 partitions, each with 16-32GB paging file size and all are >90% empty. All partitions have been defragmented before testing.
Is this normal? Are there any lenovo drivers or utilities than I might be missing or that can slow/speed this?

I have a G710 that I just purchased this week and just got around to setting up my cell phone to bluetooth some photos to it and found the G710 could not be discovered so I checked and found this error message in the properties status for the bluetooth as:
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"...

I'd been having problems with the microphone not picking up voice well after upgrading to Windows 8.1. I went to Lenovo's website and downloaded IDT audio driver version 6.10.6490.0 for Windows 8.1 64bit. I ran the exectuable that was downloaded and now the Microphone works much better however now Dolby Advanced Audio is unable to start. I get the following warning message everytime I start the laptop:
"Unable to start the Dolby Audio driver. Please restart the computer or reinstall the driver if the problem persists."
Restarting has not worked. Running the driver executable again did not correct the issue.
I found this solution on the support forums but it is unclear about what to uninstall in "Device Manager"[URL]..."Open Device Manager Uninstall the Audio Device Under Audio inputs and outputs"I have a Microphone, Speakers, and Stereo Mix listed under Audio Inputs and Outputs.

Lenovo V570, I'm on Windows 7 64-bit.
I have an esata port, and was going to get an internal hard drive with a case that converts the drive into an esata drive. I'm wanting to get a 3 TB drive, and in order to get it to read all 3 TB, I'll need to reformat the drive in GPT format (not MBR). Right?
I see a thing online that says the SATA controller has to be compatible with GPT in order to do this. I want to use it as an external drive, without any operating system on it, so I'm not worried about getting Windows to run on it; just if I can format it as GPT and get the full 3 TB out of the drive. I don't want to buy the 3 TB drive and then find out I can only get 2 because of the motherboard. If that site was correct, then I need to know if the sata controller is compatible with GPT.
I see this listed under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers list: Intel Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller.
I tried to call Lenovo support but could only tell me that she thinks I have SATA 0 or 1, but nothing about the controller in this model or GTP compatibility.
How do I find this out?

New W540, bios 2.10, latest drivers installed, 20BH
My w540 is not registering my Samsung 840 Pro SSD in the 9.5mm ultrabay adapter.
Not showing in BIOS, and not showing in disk manager or in device manager anywhere. I just want to use it as a second drive.
Main drive is 7200 rpm - with a Win 7 corporate image on it.

I recently got a U430 but, when I connect it to my Dell S2240L monitor using an HDMI cable, the U430 doesn't detect it. I've tested the monitor and cable. The display driver that came on the machine is from Intel (version 10.18.10.3379). The supported display driver listed on the Lenovo site is also from Intel but for an earlier version (10.18.10.3277). I've read a number of threads about a second monitor not being detected.

I have a brand new z510 notebook, and I need to do a clean install of windows 8.1. Problem is that I can't seem to boot from CD or USB. I have entered the bios, and although the DVD rom drive works, and it shown correctly in BIOS, it does NOT allow me to add it to the boot list. Also, there is an option called 'Boot From USB' I enable that, and still the USB boot does not show up in the boot list. The only thing I have in the boot list is the 'Windows Boot Manager' and it lists the name of my drive.
I thought that maybe secure boot was the issue, but I tried disabling this, and is still doesn't let me do what I want. I just paid $800 for a top of the line laptop, and I can't even boot from a cdrom. Every computer I have had since the 1980s have allowed me to do just that without trouble.

This is not "battery pluged-in not charging" issue. That issue is software related and can be easily changed the option whether Life or Health of battery you concerned by LEM. I'm one of Y580 owner that facing that issue that the laptop cannot detect the AC adaptor anymore after performing the Battery Guage Reset".
For example: URL...I was tring to search for the solution, but as you know there is nothing without send it back to service center. The tempolary solution I was using is,
1. Remove the battery (if laptop is powering on, then shutdown it first).
2. Remove the AC adaptor from wall ac receptacle.
3. Once the laptop is completely powered down, plug AC adaptor to your laptop and wall AC receptacle.
4. After a few second, insert battery back into the Laptop. And then, the battery will be chaged as usaul.
5. You need to repeat step 1-4 above every time you unpluged the AC adaptor.
By the way, I have been living with that issue for almost 2 years, until it was already out of waranty in June 2014. So rightnow, I can do whatever I want without worrying the waranty. I was trying to teardown my Y580 to find the dead components. I gusted that the issue may be from charging circuit. Afetr opened the chassis, I found that the Y580 uses BQ24737 from TI to be the charging controller.
I cannot found the BQ24737's datasheet, but I was using BQ24735 instead, since, they have the same pinout with difference in optional functions. I found it. The dead one is the input MOSFET. It's shorted between Drain and Source!. That lets the voltage from AC adapter directly connected to Battery. And then, the AC adapter will be tripped with over current protection and the voltage is held to near zero. That's why we cannot plug the ac adapter with battery inserted for this case.
So far, after I replaced it with the similar rating MOSFET from old laptop, it works!. So, I can plug to charge my laptop as it should be without problem.the actual circuit shound not be exactly the same with datasheet. For the Y580, the input MOSFET (Q1 in datasheet and PQ302 in Y580) is P-Channel (AO4423), and it has the external circuitry to dive that MOSFET instead of U1. send it to service center to replace the new motherboard. If not, and you have electronic/soldring skill, you can do it by your self.
Tools needed,
1. Soldering iron (it will be easier for removing part from PCB, if you have 2 of them).
2. Equivalent electrical rating MOSFET.
3. Multimeter.
The different model, different location. Anyway, you can check whether it is the right MOSFET that need to be replace by,
1. Disconnect battrey from labtop
2. Using multumeter (ohm function) to measure the resistance between pin Drain and Source of the MOSFETs. The dead one must has very low D to S resistance (near 0Ohm) for both direction (D(+)<-->S(-) and D(-)<-->S(+)).
3. Search for the dead MOSFET's datasheet and then find/cross the new one from local supplier.
4. Just replace with the good one.

I have just purchased my lenovo ideapad s110 and installed windows 7 on it. Sales agent informed me that it should have a built-in camera with it.
To my surprise, i don't see a link for camera driver on it for windows 7. I tried to access the camera using yahoo messenger or skype but it did not detect it. is there something wrong with my unit? or the model doesn't come with a camera itself?

I've been following instruction on this link to create bootable windows installation usb thumb drives [URL] .... And it's been working fine with usb 2.0 thumb drives on the X1C (old ver). However, for some reason it won't work with usb 3.0 thumb drives.
I've tried several, but everytime I select the thumb drive on boot selection, the screen blinks and goes back to boot selection. I'm assuming it's not reading my boot information. It works fine on usb 2.0 thumb drives.

I run the W530 with a dual boot setup with Windows 7 and a Ubuntu distro, with the Windows as the default one.
Every time I try to boot and there happen to be a memory stick or a drive connected to the computer, it freezes on boot at the Windows logo. If I unplug the memory stick, everything is fine and it boots up normally.
Ive purchased a Thinkpad 12,7 mm SATA HDD Bay Adapter III and a Samsung 840 EVO, 500GB, SSD. Now when I swapped the DVD drive with the new SSD the same freeze happens ever time I try to boot. Ive tried to connect the new SSD to the computer and formatted it beforehand. But it keeps freezing.
Im not sure if this relates to my dual boot setup or what.

Brand new G50-70: When using OS from the SSD or using OS from the SSD and doing things with a USB-drive, the empty internal DVD-drive making clicking sound and sometimes freezing SSD read/write operation for about 30 seconds but all the time freezing USB-storage read/write operation for about 30 seconds.
When freezing there's always clicking. But when clicking there's not always freezing except when using USB-storage.
OS is Win81-64.
An example scenario: connect USB stick, open terminal, type diskpart, dvd-drive clicks and freezes opening of diskpart for about 30 seconds, then the same may or may not happen when entering commands like clear the stick and format the stick.

Just purchased a G50-30 with win 7 x64. Decided to update the BIOS A7CN40WWW_64 from Lenovo website. The notebook version was A7CN23WW.
Upon reboot, after successful BIOS update, Win 7 booted with errors of Repair option or Normal boot up. Even re-installation of Win 7 will yield BSOD - ACPI non compliant.
Have changed BIOS settings defaults from UEFI to Legacy, it still does not work. This BIOS version is not stable. Can i request for the earlier version of BIOS ?

I have searched the issue and all I can see is I have to flash the bios. I am not comfortable doing that because I have done this before on my Alienware and it took me three days to restart the computer. Everything was messed up.
All I want to be able to do is charge USB devices when the computer is in sleep mode. I have set Windows 8 power mode up, but it appears the BIOS is still preventing this from happening. So I need to access the BIOS.When the computer restarts no message appears to say *'hit F2 to enter BIOS'.So I have tried, Fn + F2, Fn + F1, F1, F2 and none enter the bios on start up. How do I enter bios on this Z50?

I have had my laptop for over a year, and after upgrading various drivers in an attempt to fix a random power off issue, have now found that the laptop will BSOD everytime I wake it from sleep.
I am running Windows 8.1
The root cause seems to be that the SSD no longer appears in the BIOS, therefore I am unable to re-install the Intel Rapid Start software and enable RAID which seems to be a requirement.
My BIOS version is 65CN97WW dated 29/01/2013
This is what I see using DISKPART
DISKPART> list disk
Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
-------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---
Disk 0 Online 931 GB 0 B *
There is definitely an SSD in the laptop.
Can this be fixed with a BIOS update?

I am trying to connect my E520 to a wireless router. The router isn't connected to a modem, it will just be used so I can transfer files between two wireless devices. The wifi router is functioning properly as I can cannect to it with the wifi on my phone. However my laptop doesn't even see any wifi networks to connect to. The wirless "radio" button (F9) is on.
What happens.....
- There us is no visible wifi network.
- I can connect and access the router and its settings using the ethernet cable.
- 1st method - When I go to "Network and Sharing Center" I select "Setup a new connection or network". From the box that appears I select "Setup a new connection". The next box asks me to choose a wireless router from the list and informs me it may take up to 90sec for a router to show up. However no routers show up at all even after 30min.
-2nd method - I go to "Network and Sharing Center" I select "Setup a new connection or network". From the box that appears I this time select "Manually connect to a wireless network". Thsi time I get a box with an error "An unexpected error occured". It doesn't give any more information than this and I have looked in the logs and though I don't know what I am looking for nothing jumps out.
-3rd method - I go to "Manage wireless networks" and click on the "add" button. The box that appears asks me to choose between "Manually create a network profile" or "create an ad hoc network". Choosing either of these reslts in the same "unexpected error" with no information.
Things I have tried:
- Uninstalled the wireless card drivers and installed the latest ones. (device manager says device is working properly).
- let windows try and update the driver.
- Turned off my firewall and internet security and tried again.
- Disabled power management for the wireless card.
- Physically checked the card in the base of the laptop - all seems ok.

I just bought Z50-75 with AMD FX7500, 8GB Ram and FreeDOS. I installed Windows 8.1 Pro, and they pulled some drivers during the installation, and I went to Lenovo sight and downloaded all the rest (graphics, camera, etc.), after each installation the computer restarted normally and all was O.K. The last drivers that I saw on the site were BIOS drivers, and I downloaded those to and it started the installation after which it said:"The system will now restart for changes to make effect", and it did, but, it would not boot up after that, all it did was show me this on the screen:
And I tried both of the options (the second one with the Windows CD inside), but it just stays where it is, no effect.
I can enter the bios and change the settings, but none of them seem to work because this is the maximum where it will go, the only difference is when I change from AHCI to Compatible mode, it restarts and than I have a blank screen, I have to use the One button Recovery to get back to this one from the picture above...

I was trying to access my BIOS recently, but whenever I attempt to do so, all I get is a constant beep sound. I used to be able to access the BIOS just fine, but now I can't. The computer itself still boots fine, though I also can't select any boot options either.
I thought I could fix this by resetting the BIOS, but there doesn't appear to be any way of doing that. The CMOS battery is nowhere to be found, and there is no BIOS update for the Y510p that I can apply.
I can get back into the BIOS?
