Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: Cannot Recover To Factory Settings - Y400

Mar 24, 2014

I bought a y400 in feb 2013 and it worked perfectly. Then i faced some SSD issues and the system would hang and needed to force restart .I had to install Ubuntu to work.. I sent it back in feb'14 under warranty and they replaced motherboard ,SSD , HDD , re imaged ,etc . Now i got it back and everything seemed to be ok but was facing display driver issues (tried everything to fix this) and  ended up disabling my graphic card to make the system work seamlessly .

Having read on internet somewhere that windows 8.1 may fix the dispaly driver issue , I upgraded to 8.1 from the windows store . After downloading the update I had to restart to install windows 8.1 and it was stuck at 49 % at setting up on lenovo logo screen  for about 2 hrs and I had to force shutdown.

After starting up again as expected it crashed. Now I cannot Safeboot nor can I use OKR .

After the booting up its landing lenovo logo screen for a while then jumping to select language screen ENGLISH US -> Advanced Options -> cannot find  startup settings (to safe boot)  any option i select for example system restore it then asks me for windows 8 setup or windows 8 OS  when i select any one of them it hangs (blue screen)

Same happens when i use OKR .It loads the files and then boots to the same language screen . Since Recovery image is stored on separate drive all I need to do is format the C drive but how can I do it ?

Lenovo B / G Series :: G510 - How To Activate Turbo‏

Sep 26, 2014

I know it's normally simple to activate the Turbo boost on the processor of all Lenovo Laptop .

There's no Intel Turbo Boost function in the BIOS (i have not tried to update the BIOS, not to loose the warranty). There' are no installed software on the laptop or the task manager. As my processor is a new series 4, I can't neither setup the Intel processor tool to check if i'm actually already at the top capacity of the processor's frequency.

My retailer says that the G510 laptop has a turbo boost (max. 3.4GHz) on its I7-4700MQ (2.4GHz normal frequency). Here's the link of my retailer's product's description: [URL] .....

Lenovo B / G Series :: Windows 8.1 Installation Error On G510

Oct 9, 2014

I bought a new Lenovo G510 laptop. I downloaded Windows 8.1 from Microsoft DreamSpark, and burned ISO image on a DVD disc. When I try to install it on my laptop, I receive an error (it might be wrong translated):

Load Driver

A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB, or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now.

Note: If the installation media for Windows in the DVD drive or on a USB drive, you can safely remove it for this step.

I already tried changing the following options in BIOS but no effect:
Configuration tab -> SATA Controller Mode from AHCI to Compatible
Boot tab -> Boot Mode from UEFI to Legacy Support
Boot tab -> Boot Priority from UEFI First to Legacy First
Also, I tried to insert CD with drivers which was in the box, but - of course - no appropiate drivers were found.

What happened? How am I supposed to install a Windows 8.1? What should I try?

Lenovo B / G Series :: G510 Can't Use Keyboard And Mouse At The Same Time

Aug 8, 2014

I have a Lenovo G510 and Windows 8.1. I can´t use keyboard and mouse at the same time. When i typing the mousepad locks. I guess this is a feature but I wan´t it turned off but I don´t know how to do that.

I have tested with the drivers for Windows 8.1 and Windows 8, listed here: [URL] ....

I then even tried with installing the driver for Windows 8 from: [URL] ....

But when I got through the installation process the "installation program" says the driver couldn´t be installed.

I tried with the advice in this thread: [URL] ....

but I have synaptics 7.5 and not 7.4. I also tried fixing with the register but didn´t find the entry PalmKms. I did do find other entries with Palm.

I see this as a major problem since it makes me completely unable to use any program that require simultaneously use of the keyboard and mouse. Therefore I guess that must be a solution for this?

Lenovo B / G Series :: G510 And Windows 7 - Can't Install Driver

Apr 26, 2014

I have a problem with driver installation on my G510 notebook with Windows 7. I've installed all drivers, and only two had left: "Unknown Device" and "PCI Simple Communications Device". After installing the Intel Power Management Engine, the "Unknown Device" had disappear (installed successful), but second one is still not installed. VendorID (8086) and DeviceID (8C3A) suggests, that this is Intel Power Management, but this driver is already installed.

I tried to install different versions of this driver (even for Win8), but nothing changed.

Lenovo G510 B / G Series :: Audio Driver Installation On Windows 8.1

Aug 2, 2014

I've just received my brand new Lenovo G510 and installed Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit onto it.Most of the drivers from the attached CD installed without any problems (though I was quite surprised that no newer versions were available on the Support wrbpage) but I can't install audio driver.Apparently this series is equipped in either Conexant or Realtek audio chips and the provided setup application is desigend to detect the correct chip and run the appropriate driver installation program.

The problem is that setup is not working for me. All I receive is the notification "This utility can not be used on this machine". Since there are no "orphan" audio devices in the Device Manager, I can't really tell which audio chipset is installed in my machine. I don't want to install both dirvers as it may just cause confilcts.How can I say which audio chipset is installed and install the correct driver?

Tried unplugging the HDMI cable, but doesn't work.

Lenovo B / G Series :: G510 - Windows 8 Invalid Boot Drive

Jul 27, 2014

From time to time, nearly every day lately, my computer will get an alert in the system tray that the SATA drive is disconnected.  It will then freeze and not come back.  I have to restart the computer  and then I get a blue screen that says "INVALID BOOT DEVICE".  Windows will then send me in to the system recovery screen where my only option really is to do a system refresh.  I have also tried the Lenovo One Key Recovery.  At this point the computer is like having a new copy of Windows on it.

Lenovo support says this is a software issue and my "warranty" doesn't cover it.  The computer is only 5 months old and has had this problem for 2 months.

The computer will work for a short time, sometimes up to a week and will do it again.  Lately I'm having to do this nearly every day, sometimes twice a day.  I've tried updating the drivers, not updating the drivers (after a refresh), doing all the windows updates or not doing any updates at all and the results seem to be the same no matter what.

Lenovo C/E/K/M/N/V Series :: GPT Format For 3 TB Hard Drives On Lenovo V570

Sep 21, 2014

Lenovo V570, I'm on Windows 7 64-bit.

I have an esata port, and was going to get an internal hard drive with a case that converts the drive into an esata drive. I'm wanting to get a 3 TB drive, and in order to get it to read all 3 TB, I'll need to reformat the drive in GPT format (not MBR). Right?

I see a thing online that says the SATA controller has to be compatible with GPT in order to do this. I want to use it as an external drive, without any operating system on it, so I'm not worried about getting Windows to run on it; just if I can format it as GPT and get the full 3 TB out of the drive. I don't want to buy the 3 TB drive and then find out I can only get 2 because of the motherboard. If that site was correct, then I need to know if the sata controller is compatible with GPT.

I see this listed under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers list: Intel Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller.

I tried to call Lenovo support but could only tell me that she thinks I have SATA 0 or 1, but nothing about the controller in this model or GTP compatibility.

How do I find this out?

Lenovo G510 B / G Series :: No Wireless And Wired Internet Access After Going Into Flight Mode?

Nov 15, 2014

Till now, my G510 with Win7 64 bit worked perfectly but after going into flight mode and coming back, it no longer recognizes any internet sources, wired or wireless.

Windows troubleshooter says I need to 'turn on wireless capability'. I don't see a wireless hardware switch anywhere on the laptop, fn+f5 does nothing and in the panel for the flightmode, only bluetooth appears (which I can also activate). The device manger says all of the network devices are working normally. I tried reinstalling the latest drivers from Lenovo, but that didn't do anything either. The Windows Mobility Center says that the wireless is turned off, but the 'turn wireless on' button is greyed out and is not able to be clicked.

In an earlier post, it was suggested to check if in "services.msc" the "WLAN AutoConfig"  function is activated which is in my case true. WIFI is also activated in the BIOS.

Last thing I tried, was to bring with windows recovery the system back into a state where everything worked fine but also that did not work.

Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: Error When Trying To Format 22GB SSD

Jan 14, 2014

The SSD originally came partitioned into two volumes. One of them was about 8GB and what it was originally used for. The other partition was about 14GB and was used by ExpressCache.

After formatting the primary partition on the other drive and reinstalling Windows 8.1, I decided to delete the two partitions on the SSD and to instead create a single 22GB partition to be used by ExpressCache.

ExpressCache was working perfectly until I enabled bitlocker.

Then the machine started playing up and I later learned that bitlocker was incompatible with ExpressCache. So rolled back the encryption on the main drive and uninstalled ExpressCache. Since I am not going to be able to use ExpressCache with bitlocker, I would now like to format the 22GB SSD with NTFS and assign it a drive letter.

This is where I have started running into problems.

Even though I do not have ExpressCache installed or running and I do not yet have bitlocker enabled, windows keeps failing when I try to format the drive.

I have tried to use a variety of tools to format the drive. All of them get stuck at 0%.

Tools I have tried include: diskpart, windows format, EaseUS partition manager and MiniTool Partition Wizard

Various tools I have tried report that the disk is healthy.

I have used diskpart to remove the partition and create a new primary one.

When I try to format the partition using diskpart, I get the message:

"DiskPart has encountered an error: The parameter is incorrect. See the System Event Log for more information."

The event log reports the following warning as a result of attempting to format the drive:

Event ID: 129
Source: storahci
Message: Reset to device, DeviceRaidPort0, was issued.

Event ID: 153
Source: disk
Message: The IO operation at logical block address d8 for Disk 1 (PDO name: Device0000036) was retried.

Event ID: 129
Source: storahci
Message: Reset to device, DeviceRaidPort0, was issued.
(This last warning will appear four times - roughly 30 seconds apart)

Is this a driver issue?

I have tried installing the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver" and then formatting the drive, but it still gets stuck at 0% (this time however it doesn't report any warning in the event log) so I have resorted back to the Standard SATA AHCI Controller . How I can get some use out of my 22GB SSD?

It is a Toshiba THNSNX024GMNT

HP Pavilion G6 Recovery :: Can't Detect Boot Device After Factory Format To New HDD

Nov 26, 2014

I have an HP Pavilion G6 that I purchased in December 2012. Yesterday I decided to get a new HDD to upgrade it and start fresh. It's a 1TB SSD+HDD hybrid by Seagate. It installed without a hitch, and I used my HP recovery CDs to do a factory format of the disk.It finishes, reboots, but instead of rebooting to the HP Windows 8 setup screens, it goes to what looks like Windows 8 safe mode with a box containing the date, time, and it says something along the lines of "HP diagnostics driver installation" with an OK. Clicking that or not makes it disappear, and there's a command prompt bar at the bottom left hand corner of the screen.The screen changes to an HP screen that begins to install drivers. It finishes, and reboots to a black screen that says "no boot device detected, please install OS."I ran a check of the drive and it's fine. I swapped my regular drive back in, and it loaded up fine. In fact that's what I'm using right now to type this. The boot order was never changed in the BIOs. If it were the connector failing I doubt it would load the drive that's always been in the computer. Loading up the newly formatted drive in an external enclosure shows that Windows 8 is indeed on it, but on a 93GB partition even though the drive is 1TB.
