I ordered a T430s with low specs and Windows 8 and I dropped in an 8GB DIMM and mSATA drive. However, the Lenovo implementation of Windows 8 is maddeningly difficult to create backup media (you can't) and the Lenovo "restore" from the HDD partition won't allow you to restore to another drive. Plus, that kinda defeats my original purpose of a clean install without any bloatware onto a fast, user-installed mSATA or SSD.
I have Windows upgrade media I purchased for my desktop, but that install program says the installation won't work with the Lenovo Product Key specific to my Thinkpad T430s (I'm guessing it's an OEM product key while the install media is an upgrade looking for a previously installed Windows 7?)
I had an extra Lenovo T410 sitting around so I wanted to restore it to its "factory state" by performing a "format boot". Plan was to boot from CD drive and reinstall Windows 7 (32 bit) during the process. However, disaster, after the process finished I am now stuck in some sort of safe mode (everything is larger than usual) and the computer is missing several drivers. I installed the network adapter driver manually (can identify networks but can't connect to internet). Device manager still lists Base System Device, Ethernet Controller, PCI Serial Port, PCI Simple Communications Controller, and Unknown Device drivers to be out of date.
My objectives here are to
1) restore connectivity to internet and
2) get Windows 7 Home Premium to full functionality.
I need to do a clean install on a T430s and create an image of it for deploying to other laptops. The rescue CD from Lenovo is a 3 DVD set that installs all the bloatware without an option to install just the OS. How I can get this done?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm planning to add a mSATA SSD on a brand new T430s and use the 500gb HD for data. I ordered the R&R DVD's so that I don't even have to turn on the machine with the factory drive. I will remove it and install the mSATA to install OS etc.
Then reinstall the factory drive for reformat and add data.
I'd rather do this than go through the whole first time setup with the factory drive just to create R&R disc. It seems like a giant waste of time otherwise.
I'm assuming the factory R&R discs will have the OS, drivers and Thinkpad utilities, which is all in need.
I inserted a mobile broadband SIM card into the slot of my T431s, as described in the user manual. The SIM Card (EE 4G) works fine in my Huawei Mobile Wifi E589.
The Laptop is installed with WIN7 64bit Professional and all WIN7 updates are installed. I gave the laptop to our IT department, who called Lenovo Helpdesk and we got the reply that they can give us a brand new image of the harddisk which MAY fix it. Our IT department as well as myself tried everything including the obvious such as access connections. The WIFI module in access connections is greyed out. It seems that the SIM Card is not recognised. We tried also SIM cards from different providers, which do not work.
Having just spent some time installing my programmes and files, I am reluctant to have the whole laptop wiped and re-imaged....
I just got a new T431s thinkpad. However, I can not charge my laptop even I plugged in. What's going on ? Btw, T431s can not manually remove battery.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to buy a T431S (20AA0012MH) and I want it to work with a dock: The ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 type 4338 (looks like this one: [URL] .....)
First question; fits the laptop the dock? Second question; can i use two 1600x900 resolution screens connected with DVI to that dock with this laptop?
I recently picked up a T431s from the outlet. Nice ultrabook. Lighter than my T520 and T410. I have been using the 4337 and 4338 dock solutions for both of those units. I had done research before purchasing the T431s and was assured by Lenovo that the unit would work in both a 4337 and 4338 with an adapter (part number 04x0856 - Lenovo CS09 Dock Adapter). The part is shown here: CS09 Part. The T431s did not ship with the Lenovo CS09 Dock Adapter and I have been looking everywhere to locate one so that I can use it in either the 4337 or 4338 dock. Is there another part number that I am missing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new (purchased 8/2013) Lenovo ThinkPad T431s with Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. It has a very tricky error coming basically 8 / 10 boots: Windows is Scanning and repairing drive... (see attached image).
Error details from Windows Event Viewer:
A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume ?Volume{f62db2cf-efe4-4b55-a3f7-0e7db991a984}.
A file on the volume is no longer reachable from its parent directory. The parent file reference number is 0x2000000000002. The name of the parent directory is "<unable to determine file name>". The parent index attribute is ":$I30:$INDEX_ALLOCATION". The file reference number of the file that needs to be reconnected is 0x400000003db80. There may be additional files on the volume that also need to be reconnected to this parent directory.
What is wrong (my personal analysis): To me, it seems that for some reason there is one (all the Event Viewer details point to similar error) corrupted / missing Windows (System) file that is causing this, but what the file(s) is/are.
Other symptoms on my laptop is that after loggin in and using whatever app (Windows delivered or 3rd party), the whole laptop jams totally for say 30-240 seconds and all apps go to "Not Responding" state untill Laptop recovers AND I can continue using my Laptop "normally".
What has been done trying to fix that:
1) SSD disk has been changed (image from previous SSD copied back) -> no solution, error remains
2) chkdsk /F /R -> no solution, error remains
3) SFC /scannow -> no solution, error remains
4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth -> no solution, error remains after a few boots
5) TRIED using "Update & Recovery -> Refresh Your PC without affecting your files" -> Inserted the Lenovo "Operating System Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro (OEM Activation 3.0 Required)" BUT Windows did not accept that DVD claiming "The media inserted is not valid"... ???
6) Ended up calling Lenovo Support and they instructed me to order the Recovery DVD from [URL] ..... -> Waiting that to arrive...
I have a T431s laptop and I need to be able to connect a firewire (1394) cable to it, such as an external HDD/Camera etc - obviously I need to get some sort of adapter (if it's even possible) .....
I mistakenly bought a PCMCIA Card adapter after someone suggested it - Not knowing much about computers I should have checked first though as the T431s doesn't have a PCMCIA slot..
I'm using Windows 8.1 on a t431s. I'm having this problem where none of my external storage is being recognized. Under "Device Manager" any sort of external storage I plug in ends up under "Other devices". When I click on the device, I get Code 28 "The drivers for this device are not installed." Trying to update the driver brings me nowhere. The devices don't appear under disk management.
What's weird is that other USB peripherals such as mice and USB headphones don't have any problem.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Updated the BIOS.
Used Lenovo's SCCM package for Windows 8.1
Tried installing the individual drivers for each hard drive.
Nothing works!
As a confirmed trackpoint user, having the mouse built into the trackpad of the T431s is causing me all sort of grief, including sore wrists - but there are two problems I can't seem to diagnose.
1) When clicking the pad for left mouse click, it often does not work until I click it a few times. I notice this more when I disable the trackpad for cursor movement (which I had to do because the cursor moves when I try to click) - but its there even when that is enabled. It comes and goes. I guess there could be some foot trapped in there, but I've only had it a week and been pretty careful. I'd rather not learn to remove the keyboard on day 6.
2) The right click gets into a condition where, when browsing,a click brings up a new tab of the link I clicked on, rather than showing me the options (open in new tab, incognito window, save link, etc). If I connect a real mouse, it is normal.
I cannot install Windows 8.1. I have a T430. I go into the app store, start installing 8.1, it downloads, starts installing, and fails just after that point -- at 54% -- with the error message 0x80070002. That apparently means "File not found", but the Windows Update logs don't point to which file is not found, only giving:
WARNING: CSerializationHelper:: InitSerialize failed : 0x80070002
Going into Event Viewer gives the equally cryptic "English ESD Bundle Parent" as a possible cause for the failure.
SFC and chkdsk do not report anything out of the ordinary.
I have lenovo ThinkPad T540p. With Intel Core I7, 8gb RAM and 500gb HDD. I think my HDD is Toshiba. There was Windows 7 on it but it won't boot on it anymore. When I start Windows it shows 5 second black screen and then it shows Boot Menu. Well, I tried to reinstall Windows but when I have to select on which drive to install Windows I've got an error: "No drives were found". And the list with drives is empty, so I can't reinstall Windows. I updated BIOS but it didn't work. Finally, I formated my HDD and created two partitions on it. It worked, but not for a long time. I installed Windows 7. Everything was fine until I restarted my computer. And then I've got the same problem: "Can't boot from HDD" and it shows Boot Menu. Then I started Windows installation and I've got the same error: "No drives were found".
I don't understand what's going on with my HDD and what's destroying it's partitions. And I don't think that my HDD is broken.
NIB T430U (Type 8614), 128 SSD, shipped with Win 7 Pro but had a Win 8 Pro license.
Booted into Windows Installer via USB thumb drive running YUMI Multiboot tool (Win 7 Pro is the only OS on it currently). Installer loads perfectly, go into Custom (Advanced), blew away all existing partitions and create a new one using all available space (122104MB). New partition is created, go to format, expecting it to automatically create the System Reserved partition but it doesn't. Click Next, get an errors stating, "Setup cannot create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. Check setup logs for more details."
Did some research and decided to go into DISKPART and do all of the partitioning ahead of time. Ran the following sequence:
diskpart
list disk
select disk #
clean all
create partition primary align=1024
format fs=ntfs
active
exit
exit
Closed the Windows Installer to reboot the PC and went through the same installation motions, omitting making any changes when in the Custom (Advanced) section, same error.
I have tried to make a fresh Windows 7 installation, but after installing updates via Lenovo System Update the system gets corrupt.I replaced the hard drive on an T400 and loaded a image that I had on to the drive. After a installing a few updates and program I noticed strange system beaver. So I did a system file check and it came back that files was corrupt and cold not be repaired. So I did a new fresh Windows install. But it to became corrupt after just running Windows Update and Lenovo System Update. So I ran some hard drive and memory diagnostic without find and problems.
Then I did a new Windows 7 install again. After I installed all recommended updates from Windows Update I did a system file check, all OK. The I installed Lenovo System Update and all its recommended updates and did a new system file check, Windows system files corrupt. What Lenovo update is destroying the system?
I was having issues with the Intel HD4000 drivers (right-click issue and VGA out not working properly). I tried to install the latest drivers downloaded from Lenovo's site - two attempts unsuccessfully. It would seem to be installing, but ended up taking quite a while to finally timeout in error. Just stated and error occurred and it could not install.
So, I decided to uninstall the drivers in the Windows 7 device manager. This left me with Standard VGA drivers under displays. Tried to install the Lenovo drivers again - no dice. It seems to attempt to for a while, then would just time out and stated there was an error (same as before).
So, I'm stuck at the Standard VGA drivers and seemingly no good way to get the proper drivers re-installed. I've even gone through the Lenovo System Update software and tried there - did not work and timed out there as well.
I know a system restore would remedy it, but I've got business software and things I'd have to reinstall and would prefer not to if I did not have to.
Seems I should be able to install some kind of drivers here, but no dice.
I recently bought a reconditioned Lenovo T410 and have to perform certain actions to get myself set up. One of these was to create factory recovery discs using Rescue and Recovery.
As this wasn't already installed on the machine, I have downloaded it (tvtvrnr4.52_005en.exe) but it won't install. I am getting the message 'Error 25014 There was an error installing the Rescue and Recovery boot manager. Return code: 6'. How to resolve it or an alternative way or creating recovery discs?
I am trying to install the latest Intel HD Graphics driver but I always get the message that my system doesn't meet the minimum requirements... [URL]
I have a T430s.
Here is a screenshot of my dxdiag:
I got a T430s with the nvidia nvs 5400m and when i try to update drivers etc via the lenovo system update I got a message that I should update the Intel rapid storage driver to 11.2.0.1006, and that isn't even the latest version, but anyway I mark the update and let it install and then reboot. But when I search for updates I have to update the same driver to the same version I just installed. I have tried to remove the driver via device manager, but without results.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo Edge 330 (E330), with win 7 pro pre-installed. I'm annoyed by all the software that's installed together with the laptop, and I'd rather want the laptop with a clean install of Win 7. I have a Win 7 Enterprise, but not a Pro. If I attempt to install Win 7 Ent., would this cause any trouble? Drivers for all hardware seems to be available from the support site, that shouldn't cause any problem.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just bought and received a y410p with the hybrid drive. I have a 120gb ssd that I would like to make a fresh install on. Where do I get both the iso and the window's key? My box didn't come with any disks or windows key. I don't really wish to just clone the hdd since there is so much lenovo branded junk included. What are my options?
Edit: Would I also have to install all of the drivers separately? I've not used windows in some time now. I've been running linux for quite awhile and it picks up most hardware without dealing with drivers.
After a smooth clean installation of Windows 8.1 and loading all the Lenovo drivers, software, and apps, the system runs extremely well except in the Lenovo Settings Metro App, I no longer see the option of battery life protection (to charge only up to 50%). In addition, in the Windows power settings, there are only four power profiles: high performance, balances, power saver, and fly mode. I do have Lenovo Power Management Driver and Settings Dependency Packages installed. Lenovo's System Update does not show any missing installations.

I have windows 8 in my T430....I just wanted to know the detailed procedure for creating the recovery for it..
