View 2 RepliesMy T400 display works at BIOS startup but goes black was soon as Windows 7 starts to load.. Video out put works and I can see an UN Backlit image on the display. Is there some sort back light controller /driver that may be broken.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI keep having issues waking up from sleep with my T440s. It WILL NOT connect to wifi and the wireless adapter under windows adapter settings disappears. Only thing that fixes this is a reboot. I have removed "allow windows to turn this device off" under wireless settings.
Driver: 17.12.0.4
Dated: 28/08/2014
Software: Lenovo Access Connections
I do not use windows to connect to WIFI. I have dedicated profiles for each of my wifi networks at home and work.
I am a recent owner of the T440s (unfortunately with the LG panel).
I have checked every single fingerprint setting I could find. I also tried older drivers and older versions of the fingerprint manager.
When I start up the machine, I cannot use the fingerprint reader to login. It does start flashing, but no reaction whatsoever. I can only login using my password.
It does work very smoothly when waking from sleep or hibernation. It also becomes active when I want to enter bios. Just not at startup.
Win 7 ultimate 64
Had the laptop for 11 months no issues, I woke up to find the computer stuck on the startup screen. Tried rebooting, took out the battery, tried it pluged in, unpluged and it keeps stopping at the startup screen.
View 9 Replies View RelatedDuring a restart, a prompt to the effect of "Push Enter to Interrupt Startup" appears beneath the Lenovo logo. When I depress the Enter key, I get the message "Launching the startup interrupt menu" and then the device merrily continues on its path to launch Windows 8.1 Pro.
Initially, I thought this may have had something to do with a recent update to the Fingerprint Reader; however, de-installing that package had no effect. I can workaround this glitch; however, it was so nice to be able to simply specify something like a different boot device rather than having to go into the Setup menu.
I bought a ThinkPad 540p that comes with preloaded Windows 8.1. As I want to dual boot the machine I tried to select the Legacy Boot option in the BIOS/Startup tab, but I can't do anything as the option UEFI/Legacy Book is greyed out and locked in "UEFI Only". Below it there is an option called: -CSM Support that is also greyed out and selected as [No]. (below these options there is a little note with an asterisk saying "Unselectable for Secure Boot").
How can I enable the UEFI/Legacy Boot option again in order to dual boot the computer? I want to be able to boot from USB or from the CD Drive.
I can't get into the bios anymore. I updated the bios via the BIOS Update Utility 2.56 and after that I can't see the "press enter to interupt normal startup" message anymore. And therfore can't get into the bios. Windows is still booting normally.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a two month old Lenovo T540p with win 8.1 and a Realtek 2x2 1 1b/g/n wireless Lan M.2 adaptor that loses the connection to all wifi every 10 minute. The wifi worked fine in the beginning, but after a month and some updates the problem started.
Lan cable works without any problem.
I can always fix the wifi with turning off all wifi ( t. ex. fn+f8) wait 5 seconds and turn it on again. But after aprox. 10 min. it drops out again.
Every part of the laptop is up to date, even bluetooth driver, bios etc..
I tried another router same result. I tried changing channel on the router.
I tried connecting to a hotspot on my smartphone, same result.
The distance to the router makes no difference.
The Laptop is scanned for virus with Avast free.
I use chrome but tried IE and mozilla with the same result.
I tried to ping the router and it receives no data when the connection is lost.
I tried turning the firewall off, same result.
There no power saving on wifi.
Everything is fine in device management
Maybe its a win8 issue ? Do I really have to format the hd turn the computer back to beginning and start all over ? This shouldn't happen to a brand new computer.
I have tried to make a fresh Windows 7 installation, but after installing updates via Lenovo System Update the system gets corrupt.I replaced the hard drive on an T400 and loaded a image that I had on to the drive. After a installing a few updates and program I noticed strange system beaver. So I did a system file check and it came back that files was corrupt and cold not be repaired. So I did a new fresh Windows install. But it to became corrupt after just running Windows Update and Lenovo System Update. So I ran some hard drive and memory diagnostic without find and problems.
Then I did a new Windows 7 install again. After I installed all recommended updates from Windows Update I did a system file check, all OK. The I installed Lenovo System Update and all its recommended updates and did a new system file check, Windows system files corrupt. What Lenovo update is destroying the system?
This is a brand new TP T440p and I installed a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 Pro on it (licenced). I've applied all Windows updates and installed all drivers/BIOS updates from Lenovo System Update.
The computer works fine, but when I put it to sleep and wake it back up, the external monitor is almost always flickering (there is a 1mm movement to left and right, line by line - I'll shoot a video, if the camera will be able to capture the movement, because it's very "fine"). Sometimes it stops after a few minutes, but most of the time I need to re-boot the computer.
Also, not always, but many times the WiFi connection is lost and I can't reconnect unless I reboot the computer.

My Thinkpad T520, Windows 7 Pro takes over a minute to load any webpage after waking from sleep. The wifi icon shows that the network has connected to the internet after about 10 seconds from wake up. But if I attempt to use a browser to load any webpage, I must wait nearly a minute before the page will load. After that, pages load quickly.
This problem occurs in multiple browsers (FF, IE, Chrome). I am using Intel Centrino Advanced N-6205 wireless adapter. I've updated the wireless driver and BIOS. I've cleaned out my registry using CCleaner, and I've defragmented.
One bit of advice I've read that I've tried from these forums does NOT work: Uncheck from Device Manager under the Power Management tab for my wireless adapater the option to Allow the Computer to Turn Off This Device to Save Power. Unchecking that option (which would seem to keep the driver on) makes the problem worse because the wifi will not reconnect at all.
On my T540p, I configured the rapid start technology according to [URL] ....
Since I have performed a BIOS update to 2.14 and an update of the Intel Wifi driver to 17.0.5, I experience the problem of battery drain when the computer is in S4 sleep state, at a rate of approximately 0.125% per hour (on the 56Wh battery).
This was not the case before these updates. There was no noticable power drain in S4 sleep state, even not over multiple days. I'm using Win7, I set all the WoL capabilities both in BIOS and in the Intel driver to disabled, according to [URL] ....
External device USB charge settings are also fully disabled in BIOS and Power Manager. The problem does not occur when the system is fully shut down, but in S4 Sleep state, which should be a zero-power state too, as it was before the updates. In the details of the BIOS update it is stated " Fixed an issue where the computer might fail to enter sleep state". Could the power drain be a side effect of this fix? Or is it an issue with the (new) Wifi driver, as it was the case for the Y410P?
How could this battery drain be avoided?
Lenovo T400 to install Windows XP on it..It previously worked fine with windows 7 and 8.1.so it boots in windows XP preinstall screen, it formats hdd and like usual installation automatically restarts after that BUT its black screen, lights and sounds show that it works and goes to next screen BUT the screen is still black. Powering down and turn on again is not showing any screen picture. Opened it removed Bios battery, turned up after few on and off it starts it reset bios.
So now there is picture and it goes on the next screen of windows instalation like normal, after installing devices and stuff it automatically restarts like usual BUT it has NO screen again, black screen, lights and sounds again show that its loading windows end instalation screen but no picture on the screen. Reset BIOS again, it starts normaly and this time it shows BSoD with code 0x7B, after BSOD Black screen again..Maybe its a BIOS setting?!? tried installing with drivers for AHCI and tried installing without drivers for Compatible , what else can it be? Updated the bios to latest version, same result. To say it again - it works fine with other windows, but XP must be installed
I have windows 8 in my T430....I just wanted to know the detailed procedure for creating the recovery for it..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using T440. I just upgrade the operating system from windows 7 to windows 8 using recovery disk. I upgrade according to the manual paper in the box.
The issue is, the windows 8 is installed in my HDD with capacity 500GB and the SSD 16GB are not detected. My question is, it should be installed in my 500GB HDD or the SSD drive? What are the correct steps to do recovery if I 500GB HDD and SSD drive?
I cannot install Windows 8.1. I have a T430. I go into the app store, start installing 8.1, it downloads, starts installing, and fails just after that point -- at 54% -- with the error message 0x80070002. That apparently means "File not found", but the Windows Update logs don't point to which file is not found, only giving:
WARNING: CSerializationHelper:: InitSerialize failed : 0x80070002
Going into Event Viewer gives the equally cryptic "English ESD Bundle Parent" as a possible cause for the failure.
SFC and chkdsk do not report anything out of the ordinary.
I have bought new T440p (20AN006NUS). Everywhere was written that it comes with preinstalled Windows 7 pro and also includes Windows 8 pro license.
As I understand license key for Windows 8 is embeded in BIOS. But I have not any installation media for Windows 8 included in the box with laptop. How upgrade to Windows 8 should look like?
Is there a small/free application for download (preferably one that doesn't require going through installation process) that shows how each Windows applications accesses the internet, transfer rates and amounts of data being transferred?

View 7 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 64bit on my T510 has died. When logging in, it hangs on the login screen forever. Windows recovery failed too. It ran for 8 hours and reported error (something like error in restoring a file and disk is full, though my C drive is half empty). After that all the Windows restoration points are gone. So I suppose I have to do factory reset.
My question is, I made two additional partitions on my hard drive using external tools, which store all of my data. So when I do factory reset, will these two partitions be overwritten? How I can recover the system while keeping all my data?
When I connect the USB 3.0 dock to my T440s, I then cannot get the second LCD monitor to be recognised by Windows via the USB3.0.
The monitor is not being recognised as it is is not seen as one of the optional displays in the 'Intel HD Graphics control panel' window.
The driver however for the second monitor is fully up to date and it works fine when I connect the LCD to the VGA port directly on my computer. Also the second monitor is being recognised partly by the windows OS as it comes up as a second screen under the 'screen resolution' window.
My set up is shown below. I am thinking that perhaps there is an issue with either the NVIDIA or Intel HD graphics chip. I read somewhere that windows uses one or the other depending on the load. I am worried that there is some problem with that mechanism. All driver are up to date.
System Unit
Nvidia GT730M Graphics without docking connector
Processor
4th Gen Intel Core i7-4600U Processor (4MB Cache, up to 3.30GHz)
Display Panel
14.0" FHD IPS With WWAN
I'm running Win 7, and I have the most up-to-date drivers from the Lenovo site. I have turned on loudness equalization, but it has not worked. This is an across-the-board problem. What I mean by that is, this problem persists regardless of the application, which I happen to be using. For instance, I use Media Player Classic: Home Cinema to watch movies. If the volume is at 0%, as I begin adjusting it upward, the volume level rises. However, as I reach about 70%, the volume stops increasing. There are audio adjustments w/in the application to boost the volume, but they serve to provide minimal effects. Overall, the volume is incredibly low. If you're sitting more than a few feet away from the laptop, it is inaudible.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a question: I have Lenovo Think Pad T420 with preinstalled Windows 7 Prof OA CIS and GE
I recently format it, and now I need Windows 7 image to reinstall system. Where I can get it?
May I use MSDN image for Windows 7 Prof RU and activate it using product key which I have on my laptop?
I have replaced my old sata disk with a ssd disk . Intel 520 240 gb. on my T520. I have a Windows 7 and a minor Linux partition. Dual boot. I have moved the old image with Arconis True HD.
However, there is a HUGE difference in boot times between Windows and Linux.
Windows is 1 min and 35 sec with windows logo until login screen appears. Then additional 20 seconds.
Linux is 7-10 seconds from Lenovo sign in bios until I'm ready to go. Off course I did not expect Windows to boot as fast as Linux, but things has worsened after the change.
When Windows is up and running the SSD disk is preforming in the same speedy way as under Linux. It is just the boot situation which is terrible. AHCI is enabled .
Just bought a T420 (4236) from Ebay with no discs.Have installed W7 but can't connect to the home wifi connection am getting a message "windows did not detect any networking hardware".do I need to install them all to get a connection to the internet?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 8 x64 recently and installed all the drivers. I was pretty sure that all the devices were installed.I was having a hardware power management problem before installing Windows 8 that I was hoping was a software issue that reinstalling the OS would fix. Turns out it wasn't software, but had to have the main board replaced under warranty. Even after the main board replacement, I was still pretty sure I saw all the device drivers were installed under device manager.
I'm noticing an "unknown device" listed that doesn't have a driver installed. I know often these can be the TPM or other system device, but I have the TPM installed as well as the chipset software and power management driver. But there is still this unknown device. The only clue I have as to what the device could be is under details, the "hardware ids" property value is "rootsscbfs_storlib_bus3". A Google search brings up nothing for this string. "STORLIB" makes it seem like it has something to do with storage, but I have the Intel RST driver (11.7 from Intel) as well as the card reader driver installed. I can confirm the card reader is functioning fine too.
I have a T440p with a Windows 7 professional 64 bit. I got the same problem: camera light is on, but I can't see any preview but only a crossed camera on a grey background.
Since my operating system is Windows 7, I don't have a "setting app" in my laptop.
My new T540p came with IE 11, and from time to time, I get a bar across the top of the big window where it's asking me to type in my *Windows* password. Not for whatever site I'm on, but my WINDOWS password. My year or so older T440 does not do this, nor does my non-Lenovo work IE11. There's a red cirle in the far right of the bar, with a "voice balloon" with 4 Xs.
The machine is virus free, but why I'm getting this prompt ONLY in the browser.
When I move my finger across the touchscreen on my brand new T440s Windows 8 machine, a skinny dark line about one inch long follows my finger--whereever I move it.
