I just got my x230 yesterday and I'm having some weird issues.
(1) whenever my laptop goes to sleep mode. I can't seem to make it wake up. The power button would just slowly blink and would not respond to anything. I would have to hard reset my laptop for it to turn on. When I turn it back on, it would go the "Start windows normally" screen.
(2) whenever I close the lid, I'm guessing it tries to go to sleep mode, then if I wake it up, the system seem to reboot and would go to the "start windows normally" screen.
I purchased a Y580 a while back, and I am not getting black bars on the monitor (shown below). At first it seemed to be there randomly. But now it is on constantly. Opening or closing the screen at different angles does not change it. If I connect an external monitor, it has no issues. I can also see the black bar when windows is booting up as well. And it shows when I am in BIOS.
I have a ThinkPad X230 Tablet. I tried system restore and safe mode, but none of it works.
After windows loads with the glowing animation, the login screen does not appear. I cannot open a task manager. I don't know if it's a problem with explorer.exe or what.
The explorer.exe crashed when I tried to connect to an external hard drive, and I tried to get task manager to open, but it wouldn't open.
That's when I tried to restart computer, and login screen would not appear. All I have is a black screen with cursor.
As others with x230's have found, I have an issue with the screen fading/graying out then developing vertical lines over the entire screen. Pressing the screen bottom screen border resolves it for a split second then it occurs again, though resolves usually after pressing it at various points along the plastic lower edge maybe 3-6 times, sometimes with slight flickering of whites after. I bought it on ebay so don't have any warranty information, unfortunately. It appears to be the LCD connector or cable. Is it possible to open it up and fix that somehow, or should I buy an IPS screen (the current screen isn't IPS I believe) and replace it myself?
I am trying to do a clean install on my good, old Thinkpad X230 which came with 64-bit Windows 7 Professional. For some reason, I was not able to create a bootable media from the recovery partition. In any case, I wanted to avoid the recovery partition as I want a basic, non-bloated, and minimal install.
Hence, I downloaded a copy of 64-bit Windows 7 Professional from Microsoft/ digital river website. After performing the checksum, I used Microsoft's USB DVD Download Tool to make a bootable USB on Kingston Flash Voyager (USB 2.0; 8 GB; FAT32). BTW, just for the heck of it, I verified that it boots on my spare (and even older) Thinkpad X60 -- though it doesn't proceed when it sees that the X60 has a 32-bit microprocessor.
The relevant BIOS values and settings are as follows:
UEFI BIOS Version G2ET95WW (2.55) UEFI BIOS Date 2013-July-09 UEFI Secure Boot Off

I am posting this query after trying a number of solutions : rebooting from a USB flash drive on my Thinkpad X230. For some reason, nothing has worked and pressing F12 only shows the ATA HDD0 hard drive. Among other things, I have tried the following:
- Updated the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller driver using Lenovo's Thinkvantage Tools. Now it has version 1.0.9.254. Someone suggested to have at least 1.4.0.225 which is apparently available at Intel's website. I always considered downloading the device drivers from Lenovo to be kosher. Shall I download it from Intel's website?
- Disabled USB 3.0 from BIOS which made all USB ports to act as USB 2.0. Neither option works. - Tried booting from all three USB ports (of which one is USB 2.0 and two are USB 3.0). Zilch. - Have yet to try "reset BIOS to default" suggestion as it looked a bit of a last resort.
I just purchased these 2 new dual monitors whose input connectors only come in HDMI, DisplayPort, and Mini DisplayPort. I'm using a X230 with a Ultrabase 3 and I can't seem to get the 2nd monitor up and working... My first one is being used through the displayport direclty on my laptop (left side).
Is it not possible to get both monitors using a combination of these cables? Would buying a converter (HDMI or displayport --> VGA) solve the problem?
Just installed Windows 8.1 Professional and tried to update all drivers via System Update. After that i installed latest Ericsson drivers (H5321 gw mobile broadband network adapter), and.... nothing! 3G is not working at all, because Windows says "Device cannot start. (code 10)" on MbmLowExt device.
SIM card installed correctly and working perfectly on my phones.
I just got a few weeks used thinkpad x230 which has w7 professional. I am thinking of an upgrade to w8.1 but not sure what to expect after the upgrade.
I just purchased a new 6-cell battery (44+) for my X230. When I install it and restart, I get the message "The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge." After starting Windows I can see that the battery is in fact not charging.
I tried to make sure to buy a 44+ battery that I was told was compatible with the X230.
Btw my mobo, cpu, memory i believe were all replaced last time i took it in with this issue... Still getting it consistently:

I thought before maybe its Bluetooth related as sometimes when screen would turn black and then come back, I would get a 'Bluetooth Device Not Discoverable'. So turned off Bluetooth in the BIOS, but still having display/sleep issues.
I removed hte Lenovo Power Manager/PM Driver, and turned off sleeping in the Windows power settings (in every setting including if Low Battery Action).
I have an X230 to which I would like to add fingerprint reader. I have ordered a brand new palmrest with fingerprint reader. My question is, is this a simple plug and play operation or will there be bios config to do and drivers to add? I have an mSATA SSD will this cause any issues...
ThinkPad X230 (2325) | CPU I5-3210 (2.5GHz) | RAM 8GB | 128GB mSATA | 180GB Intel 520 SSD | 12.5" IPS Panel | Intel HD Graphics | Intel Centrino Advanced N6205 2x2 AGN | Intel PRO/1000 LAN | Bluetooth | Low-light 720p HD camera | Dolby Audio | Backlit Keyboard
I replaced dc jack by following hardware repair manual, but the laptop is not starting(zero response on pressing power button) afterwards. When ac adapter is connected, the battery light blinks three time, showing connection made. My suspicion is damaged key board or could be mother board. Does standby battery has anything to do with starting up computer?
I got an X230 a few months ago and the power key has stopped working. It doesn't spring back like the other keys and pressing it has no affect. My laptop is under warenty so I plan on contacting the store I bought it in about a repair but I'm wondering is there any way for me to use the laptop in the meantime? Any way to turn the laptop on without using the power key?
Trying to upgrade my wifi card. The machine originally came with Centrino 2200 card. I wanted to upgrade to Centrino 6205. I thought that all I had to do was ensure that I get a card that has a known/authorized FRU, as per the X230 FRU List. So I picked a card with FRU 60Y3253, but upon installing it, I get the all familiar "1802: Unauthorized Network Card" error. Why? What else am I missing?
after few seconds of heavy CPU usage on my x230 termal sensors show temperature slightly above 100 degrees celsius. I think it's way to high and probably should call the service to replace the fan, clean the heatsink etc, but wanted to make sure. For comparison, my previous machine (x201) did not ever go above 85 degrees during similar tasks.
Brand new X230 here, with the Lenovo wifi. It seems like when I first got it that it would reconnect to wifi after waking, but now, after having done all my software installation, system updates, bios update, etc. - at some point it stopped doing this. After waking I've tried turning wifi on and off, disabling and re-enabling the adapter, releasing and renewing the ip (it won't renew). Basically, after coming out of sleep it seems like the adapter just won't "wake up" fully and get a new ip address. All Windows and systems updates have been performed.
my x230's fan is most of the time running full speed, and returns to regular (almost no noise level) for only a few minutes.I just got this x230 for less than a month and i notice this since most of my colleagues' laptops are all the time quiet compared to mine, which is a lot newer than theirs.Later on I will try the Full HW scan & see how it goes.
I bought a genuine x220/x230 battery. After I power on the laptop, I got a message: the laptop doesn't support this battery. I tried to update the bios but nothing happend. The power manager said the battery voltage, performance, cycles, LGC battery. If I unplugged the laptop, it is works so the laptop can use the battery just not charge. If it was not a genuine battery I can't see these description or I should also?
Maybe this is not compatible with my x230 because it compatible just x220 and the seller didn't know it?
I have a X230 (Dislay ports: VGA DP++). It is in a Port Replicator Series 3 with USB 3.0 (part number 433615W) (Dislay ports: VGA)
For display I have: Lenovo Thinkvision 22" (no model number on case - 4 years old) 1680x1050 (Dislay ports: VGA DVI) Benq GL2450 24" (Dislay ports: VGA DVI HDMI)
Numerous cables (DVI<->DVI VGA<->VGA HDMI<->HDMI)
How can I hook both monitors to the X230 for a dual external display (laptop monitor is not used)?
My OS is Windows 8.1 last update. I own the Lenovo ThinkPad W540 work station. There is a program called Lenovo Toast and nothing appears or starts when I click on it. I have tried to download Lenovo Toast but have not succeeded. (I did not know where to look for Lenovo Toast ).
I have a Lenovo X230 2324-3XU, and I cannot pair my bluetooth headphones to the computer. I can turn on the bluetooth with the Fn+F5 function, but the bluetooth icon doesn't appear in my icon tray, and I can't use the Add Device to discover the headset.
I have a X230 (model 2357G) with a type 4338 dock. I'm currently running dual 1920x108 monitors via the dual DVI ports in the dock. But I wonder if the dual Displayports in the dock can handle something with a higher resolution like dual 3840x2160 monitors ?
If I close the lid it goes to sleep and when I open the lid it is resuming . If I don't close the lid and it goes to sleep I can't wake him up, tried pushing the blinking power button, keys, trackpad nothing works...
It's been about 5 months since I started to use my Thinkpad X230. Only three days ago it could work for 5-6 hours without charging. I could charge it at home, bring it to school and use it without charging. But suddenly the battery started to die in a short amount of time. Then I explored the battery settings a little bit. I found out it says "Battery Condition: poor" and "Your battery can 47% of its original full charge capacity."
It has warranty until 2015. So can Lenovo send me a new battery if I want so? Or is it a problem that warranty doesn't cover?
My current x230 is set to "Automatically optimize for battery lifespan" under battery maintenance. I read that for this settings, it'll set your battery to hover around 80%~ base on Lenovo forum under w530 section. However, i'm always seeing my battery at 100% when AC is plugged in; Remaining capacity: 62.47 wh ; Full charge capacity: 62.47wh. Is it suppose to be lesser? I suppose it not healthy for the battery to be constantly kept at 100%. Any x230 users experiencing this too?
Would like my battery to last at least 2 years. usage :70% AC plugged in,30% on the go.
