Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: IdeaPad Y480 - 0xc0000021a Error On Restart

May 13, 2013

My Ideapad y480 has been having some severe issues lately related to booting. Whenver I try to reboot my computer (which runs Windows 8) I get the Windows 8 version of the BSOD (the frowny face screen). It tells me that my computer has encountered an error and needs to shut down, and it gave me an error code of 0xc0000021a. Sometimes the computer will boot perfectly normally, but around 75% of the time it crashes like this. It seems to always happen after any major changes are made (Windows updates, updates for games, etc.).

The only way for me to get into my computer again is to do a system restore to before any changes were made. If a new restore point is made and any change whatsoever has been made, I often get another error message, and the system restore fails. These problems don't occur 100% of the time, but its very hard to use the computer when I can't update programs or Windows without issues. I looked other places online and a few of the pointed towards the hard drive failing or reinstalling the OS, but I thought I should ask for any less drastic solutions that could work.

Dell Latitude E7440 :: Disable Click On The Pointing Stick

May 6, 2014

Received a new Latitude E7440 today, and I like having the option of a pointing stick and a trackpad depending on what I'm doing, however the pointing stick apparently also can be "clicked" instead of using the dedicated buttons... this is annoying to say the least.

When I'm moving the mouse pointer with the pointing stick, if I press a little too hard it thinks I'm trying to do a click/drag.

I can operate the dedicated buttons just fine, so is there some way to disable this pressure-sensitive click feature on the pointing stick? Otherwise I'll have to disable the stick entirely as it's more annoying that having somebody randomly clicking the mouse buttons while you're trying to work...

Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X220 - Can't Find A Way To Permanently Change Boot Order

Nov 19, 2014

I added a mSata second drive.  Works fine.  Lenovo X220, Bios 1.16.  PC boots from the new drive.  I don't want an operating system on the new drive, just want it for storage.  So I entered the bios by pushing the blue thinkvantage button and can't find a way to permanently change boot order.  I hit F12 to TEMPORARILY change boot order, every time I boot the PC.  Major PAIN!  I tried to enter the Intel Boot Extension Management Engine, but it needs a password and I don't have a password.

Dell Studio 1737 :: Touchpad - Alps Pointing Device Not Working On Start Up

Nov 13, 2009

I have a Dell studio 1737 64-bit laptop upgraded to windows 7. I start my computer and the only thing not working is the mouse pointer. The pointer works but, the zoom and scroll doesn't. I downloaded the latest driver version 7.101.102.224 went to device manager and says the device is working, no conflicts. I went to msconfig and it's listed as one of the start up programs. And, yet the zoom and scroll is not working. I made sure I installed the 64-bit version. I opened the file and clicked on the  Apoint file and a install window popped up and, I clicked on yes and, now the zoom and scroll works. When I restart my computer it doesn't show up in the system tray and the zoom and scroll doesn't work. Is the Dell touch pad and Alps pointing device 2  different programs that both have to run at start up and, if so how do I get the Alps pointing device to run at start up?

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: Unknown Device In Device Manager After Win 8.1 Upgrade On W540

Aug 29, 2014

I'm using the W540 with an ultradock and external monitors. After upgrading my W540 to win8.1 64 bit, device manager is showing an unknown device. I'm not quite sure what it is, but almost everything seems to be working fine and Lenovo solution center isn't finding any driver updates.

I did notice that the solution center hardware scan did not test the video card memory and listed that test as N/A. Video and monitors seem to be working fine though and both nvidia and intel graphics show up in device manager.

Device manager lists the device in question as follows:
Device instance path: ROOTSYSTEM001
Hardware Ids: rootiwdbus
Device stack: DriverPnPManager

Lenovo B590 B / G Series :: When Try To Check Sound Device Window Pops Up - Device Is Already In Use By Another Application

Jul 20, 2014

Faced with the problem. No sound after the laptop. When you try to check the sound device, a window pops up "the device is already in use by another application." But no program is not running. After rebooting the laptop sound occurs. Drivers are all set.

Audio device Realtek ALC269
Win 7 Pro SP1 (x64) with all updates
Motherboard 20208
Chipset Intel Panther Point HM77
BIOS Version H5ET84WW(1.22) (11/26/2013)

UEFI boot mode, not Legacy.Drivers for sound downloaded from realtek.com.tw. With standard windows drivers sound is always there. Tried the previous version of the drivers - ineffectually. Could it be that the problem is due to the UEFI boot mode? I do not want to reinstall the OS mode Legacy just to check it out.

I've had this issue since new (6+ months) which has been driving me crazy. It's very intermittent, I generally shutdown every day, and it might work for 2-3 weeks fine. Other times I'll boot up, have no sound in browsers and have to reboot multiple times before it works. After booted, it either completely works or it doesn't.

So when the problem happens system sounds and other applications play fine, but no sound in Explorer, Chrome, etc. Checked all the usual things, updated drivers, reinstalled Flash, checked volume settings, etc.

Searching around many other people faced a similar issue which was fixed by a registery change, I checked this also but my registry was correct. For example: [URL] ....
