I prefer the Comfort On Screen Keyboard Pro and have installed it. After every sleep or reboot I have to manually disable the standard Touch Keyboard from Toolbar entry on the Taskbar.

I can turn off the red lights with the F9 key, but they don't stay off: the lights turn back on as I continue to work.
Is there a way to PERMANENTLY turn off the red lights? I love the laptop but HATE the red lights.
I have never used a laptop before (I prefer to work on a server machine) but am considering one at present.I'm looking at a Vostro 3500 but that could change.
1) Can I use a standard USB keyboard and mouse with such a laptop? (No need for special devices!)
2) Are there any problems with PS-2 to USB adaptors connecting keyboard and mouse to a USB port? (Yes I have a few keyboards and mice in storage!)
3) Can I install a standard out of the box version of Windows 7 Ultimate (already licensed) on the Vostro 3500?

I was recently given a Latitude E6530 and I wish to upgrade the standard keyboard to a backlit one after coming from a MacBook Air. I was wondering, does E6530 (or it's similar models) requires an additional cable to power the backlight or does it just feed off the single cable? I've scoured YouTube and Google to try find out if an extra cable is required for this model however wasn't able to.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI got the "ATI display driver has stopped responding and has recovered from an error" several times over the last couple of days where my screen would freeze for a couple of second and then start working again and would display that message. I thought little of it as it did always seem to work afterwards.
Last night however it got extremely frequent happening at least once a minute and i decided to try and restart my computer to see if that would work. Now when I try to turn the computer on the screen stays black and will not do anything. I can hear that the computer trying to work as the fans are going and the power light is on, it's just the screen that isn't working.

I found these guides on how to fix the error message but at the moment both are no good as I can't even use my computer to fix the problem as the screen won't work.
I am pretty sure the reason my computer is doing this is because of outdated drivers as I recently did a fresh install of windows and only installed the drivers that came on the CD I was given with my computer. I should have downloaded the latest drivers online.
I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Studio 1558 laptop. I am unsure of the graphics card at the moment as I can't access the computer but I know that it is an ATI of some sort.
About a week ago, the (external) screen of my dell lattitude D830 went completely black. I hadn't got a clue wat to do, so I waited a while, and when nothing happened I turned off the computer. I've been googling for a while, and found something about POST-codes here [URL] ..... apparently the video-card doesn't work anymore (If I start the computer with FN+power, Num and Caps flash, and Scroll burns permanently). Lucky for me my Dell was old, and I had recently replaced it, but I still wanted to use my old computer for rendering etcera. Would this still be possible? I have the idea that the computer doesn't boot anymore (I can't see whether that's true, since there's no screen). Would it be possible to make it boot again, so that I can use my old Dell on a network?

I've got a Dell Inspiron 1420 with XP, bought in Malaysia almost 5 years ago. It was working fine till a month ago when the keyboard and touchpad started malfunctioning. I used an external keyboard and mouse to over ride the problem but from time to time, it acts as if a button on the built in keyboard is being pressed (for instance ctrl on the laptop is being held down so when I type the letter "f" on the external keyboard, I end up opening the Search tool). I don't know the internal mechanism of this laptop, but is there a way I could disable the laptop's keyboard and touchpad, and continue functioning only through the USB external keyboard and mouse? I tried uninstalling the drivers.

View 3 Replies View RelatedA while back I had an issue with some of my keyboard keys constantly repeating as if the key was pressed even though the actual key didn't seem to be stuck. It would usually stop repeating after pressing the key. I had similar experience with another laptop and it ended up constantly repeating the key even after pressing the key.
Before I got in a similar situation with this laptop I decided to get an usb keyboard. This has functioned for several months, but suddenly the issue with a key constantly repeating even after pressing the key on the laptop keyboard has appeared.
As a temporary solution I disabled the "w" key. Trying to remove the driver for the laptop keyboard simply results in it being reinstalled on restart. It seems like my only option is to either dismantle the laptop and detach it or disabling the driver.
I have no experience with dismantling a laptop and would like to avoid that. If I go to the device manager, the dropdown menu for the driver doesn't show a disable option and in properties the option is greyed out.
The laptop is a dv7-6143eo and uses windows 7 64 bit. The name of the driver is "Standard PS/2-tastatur" (tastatur = keyboard).
Is there a way to DISABLE Y530 keyboard touch pad? I prefer to use my wireless mouse. with the touch pad enabled, I accidently touch it and need to undo it's input. I have been unable to find any documentation related to the keyboard touch pad.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Yoga 2 11. It seems that all of a sudden that Lenovo Transition is not disabling the mouse and keyboard until the computer is in the full tablet mode. It used to disable these features in stand mode so when the computer is sitting on the keyboard, it's not pressing any keys. But it's not working anymore. I have uninstalled the program, re-downloaded the software from lenovo, installed it, and also checked for updates. I also tried both drivers for windows 8 and 8.1 ....

When I move the cursor into the VMWare window a message comes on say "NUM LOCK: ON" when I move it out of the VMWare window I see message "NUM LOCK: OFF". I do not have any key on the keyboard to disable Num Lock. There are utilities I can run in the SUSE VMWare image to capture the key binding and remap, but I do not have anyway of turning Num Lock on or off to capture the key binding.

It can't be done through software but has anyone physically unplugged them? I've not opened up the case yet so I don't know how practical that would be, thought I'd ask around first.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHow to disable auto brightness feature on my laptop. It's dell xps 15 with 1080p display. It happens on battery only, on every power plan. I don't mean the display dimming after a certain time, but it just goes from bright to dark. The darker the image, the darker the screen dimms and vice versa. I had another problem which was the colors going crazy when the screen went back on after unplugging charger or waking it on battery (it all went down to what was like 256 color range).
This problem was resolved after unchecking "Intel Display Power Saving Technology" in Dell Quick Set. Yet I can't get rid of the auto screen dimming which is extremely annoying. Has the laptop got an ambient light sensor or something?
I all seems like there's an ambient light sensor which is trigggered by the brightness of the screen itself and it shouldn't work like that.
I have an XPS 12 that I have a question about. When my computer is plugged in the power option is set to High Performance. When I unplug it it goes to Power Saver. How do I get the power option to permanently be on High Performance?

I have a crack on my screen that starts in the bottom left and spreads to almost the top right. It is not bad and everything works fine except for the touchscreen. Only half the touchscreen works and sometimes the crack causes the other half of the touchscreen to act on its own and its very annoying and messes me up when I try to surf the web or use Microsoft Office. Is there a way I can disable the touchscreen?

For the most part, I am very very happy with it, it's display is awesome, both built in wireless and Bluetooth, and BD.
I have a few questions.
First off, sound when play BD and DVD's, you can barely hear the voice on any film, had to resort to using travel speakers whilst I was away as I could not hear any voice in any films in a small room. Yet normal sound is amazing, how can this be? Anyone had this problem and solved it?
Second, is there a way to make Bluetooth on permanently? It's a bit annoying having to turn it on all the time.
Wireless performance appears quite slow on my wireless g network.

A few days ago I bought an Acer Aspire 5542 (AMD Turion II X2 M500) with Windows 7 .
The software on the laptop is running very smoth because the Aspire 5542 is coming with Windows 7 64 bit.
The problem it's just one: the fan is a bit noise and is permanently ON(when the laptop is idle also ....)(the same situation like for Timeline Series)

The problem: I use an external monitor, so my laptop is usually shut. Randomly, my touch screen THINKS something is touching it, which disrupts whatever I'm doing. I would like to disable the touch screen completely, as I do not use it at all.
I thought maybe the latch wasn't closing properly, but the screen resolution changes when I shut the laptop, so it KNOWS it's closed and switches to the proper resolution for my external monitor, but it DOES NOT disactivate the touch screen, and some dirt or something is touching it, changing where my mouse is pointed, where I am typing, etc.
I have tried cleaning the screen and keyboard with compressed air.
The problem happens randomly; sometimes when I CAD for the day, sometimes after hours of working.
Just picked up this model from Best Buy yesterday. Like everyone else in the large thread I am having the yellow color issue as well. However, I have another issue that I can't seem to find any information on.
The brightness on my screen is constantly adjusting. It is most obvious when making the move from the desktop to Metro. After hitting the windows key, I can see the brightness increasing in stages (about 4 times) after flipping over to Metro.
I have disabled Auto-Brightness under the Change My PC Setting -> Power and Sleep menu. I have also disabled Enable Adpative Brightness under Windows Power Mangement but the issue still persists.
Is there any other location I might be missing a setting that can be affecting this ? Brightness is set to full and keeps dipping down.
I have a Lattitude E6500 with an intel 5300 (AGN) wireless card which has 'N' connectivity. I also have a netgear DG834N which is also draft 'N'.
Both should work on N out of the box, but for some reason I only ever seem to have 54mps connection from the connection manager popup bubble
Ive gotten everything working with the standard vista x64 drivers except mine bt 355 card.
The card drivers install, but then 3 more devices are detected and no drivers can be found for those devices.
