Sony :: 64bit In SZ650? Or 3 Gig Of Ram
Jan 11, 2009
is it possible to install 64 bit vista in SZ650 and where to find the drivers? any performance gain (or stability?) My other option is to upgrade ram from 2 gig. But should I put 4 ot 3? I know the 4 gig can't be addressed by vista 32bit, but putting 3 gig meaning I have to install 1+2 (replace one stick of RAM) DOes it mean I lost dual chanel? How's SODIMM different from normal DDR?

got the vaio control centre showing a few things but really havent got some stuff working properly, luckily with 7 alot of stuff works out of the box.
I downloaded the ati driver from ati but it doesnt show any control centre, also installed synaptics but it asks if i want to reinstall everytime i restart, power management seems to work.
mainly the problems are none of the fn things work and the 5 buttons/settings/mode dont work, I would like them to work, would also like some of the cool functions that were on the screen with vista when i first got it.

I opened up my Z last night and changed the stock HDD to a new WD Scorpio Black 320gb 7200rpm HDD. Aside from some difficulty with one of the screws already having a stripped head, it was a fairly simple process.
I turned the Z back on and installed Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 from the OEM disc that I bought for my custom-built desktop computer (to clarify, this means it's the official MSDN release of Vista x64 SP1 from March '08, w/ no embedded drivers), using the Vista product key under the bottom of my Z. All was well until the install completed and Vista rebooted... it gave me the blue screen of death. I shut down the Z and turned it back on -- same result. Then I started the Z and jumped into the BIOS immediately, took out the Vista install disc, and started -- this time it didn't blue screen and the Vista install completed and successfully booted to the desktop.
I was tired and went to bed at that point before installing any drivers, but I'm concerned that my install may be corrupted and that I should attempt it again (perhaps ensuring that I remove the install disc immediately upon the reboot?). Could the blue screen be an issue associated with my Vista SP1 disc not having the right SATA drivers for the Z? If that's the case, I may have to try to create a new Vista install disc with the drivers slip-streamed in.
Another odd thing was that, when choosing where to install, Vista saw the only partition on the HDD as "Disk 0 Partition 3." The HDD is brand new -- I remember back to when I installed Vista on my desktop and it saw my hard drive as "Disk 0 Partition 1." There was no missing space, it had the 298.9GB that you'd expect for a 320GB drive.

Bought the 64bit Z690... I have one program that is only able to run on a 32bit OS.. Are there any solutions?? Maybe creating a partition and installing a copy of 32bit XP... Would that work or is 64bit a hardware issue meaning nothing could be done.

After installing Win7 Home Premium 64bit on my Vaio TT11WN/B laptop, everything seemed to be working fine, except automatic display sensor which I couldn't manage to fix at all.
Recently, I also discovered that in-built Microphone is not working as well while attempted to use Skype. I installed correct 64bit graphics and audio drivers, downloaded from Sony support sites.
how to get these two working properly?

I running a z690 with win7, and my blu ray drive isn't visibile, don't have the correct driver for the Mata bd-mlt uj232as, and the z590 driver from sony's site won't install because its not a z5-series. Any advice? or anyone have the driver from there Vista64bit?
If anyone is curious, Windows7 is really smooth and quick compared to the Vista64bit, and only running 60 processes after everything got installed.

got my SR-430J. it's probably an older model since it came with Windows Vista...
So first thing I did was did a clean install of Windows 7 Enterprise (a RTM version, and the genuine key is applied so it should be the same as the market version)
I can't for the last 3 hours get the brightness key working... >_> the audio key works but not the brightness... can anyone offer a solution? If not is there another way through windows to change brightness on a laptop screen?
I followed several guides here.. installing the shared library, firmware parser etc... still doesn't work ;x
I am using Windows 7 Enterprise 64-Bit Japanese...

I plan to order my FW390 very soon, and would like to do a clean install of Vista onto it. My only problem is that the Vista I own is 32bit Business. I plan on having much more then 3Gigs on my FW requiring me to have 64bit. Is there anyway I can download a 64bit version of business and use my 32bit key?

Just received my new CTO Z-690 today with vista home premium (64 bit), and to save a little on cost, bought an OEM Vista Ult 64bit separately.
Now I'd like to install vista ultimate instead and i just want to make sure i have the steps right.
1. backup/create recovery disks just in case something messes up.
2. install vista ultimate, wiping out everything
3. install drivers from sony's website
lastly, 2 questions
1) since my current drivers are for vista home premium, i will have to download new ones regardless right?
2) is there anything else that i should be doing?

I can toggle Wireless WAN on and then see 4 Data Interface items listed in Device Manager that need drivers....

I have sony VGN-Z591U with 32bit OS
Is there any possible way to upgrade my OS from 32 bit to 64 bit on my laptop?
I have check the sony website and they have no driver for 64bit (only 32 bit).
If I take the 64bit driver from different model e.g. VGN-Z690, because they have 64-bit driver. Will it work with my laptop?

I have followed the topic "Sony SZ750 Win7 64bit clean install (should help on other SZ's)", and everybody has problem of getting camera work (with cold boot).
I have found out since I have used driver from http://www.ralphg.com/public
my camera works fine (I completely shut down my computer and boot it again)
The thing is that this driver is not working with Sony Camera Utility, but it works with other program that involve camera (like I use Yahoo Messenger to start my camera, and it works very well).

im trying to get the dang thing to work w/ something on my vista x64 sz-491n laptop. ive tried several things already.
1) download the original file but its only x86 when extracted..no x64 bit files like the later model sz's. ive used have disk method for the x86 files and just a black screen in camera capture utility.
2) i took my working x64 vista webcam driver from my sz650n vcc7 and modified inf to make it a vcc5 and used have disk method w/o luck also.
i dunno why sony had to make a different webcam driver for each model sz. anyone understand how i can get this to work w/ x64 bit on my sz491n machine? or even windows 7 x64 bit even because i could upgrade if i had to.

Can my cursed vaio (sz680) run vista or 7 under 64bit?? YES it can
Did sony provide us any 64bit drivers? NO it didnt
So is there any way that somebody has a sz680 which works 64bit and EVERYTHING is working...?
Everything is: 1-Recognition of the model sz680 to the OS
2- FN keys
3- S1,S2
4- Smart network thinge
5- HDD protection, webcam and fingerprint
The rest of the drivers are easy to find...(8400m gs for example at laptopvideo2go)
I say we try to SOLVE this issue once and for all and make it in the sticky topic....

SZ Series Windows 7 Clean install (32bit and 64bit)
Primarily for the SZ750, but works most other SZ models.
Yes, it's long, but it overs a lot and makes it very, very simple.
A Note about the "new" Sony utilities on their website.
Don't bother, you end up with FAR less functionality than you will with this guide. Sony simply put up utilities that work with Windows7, they didn't check to see if there is a driver to allow them to work.
Contributors who helped fine tune this guide:
Rachel, James007bond, Jtravers, Jupillam, Aralos1999, CKF92
Status:
32bit 100% working – Use the Vista drivers and Utilities.
64bit 99.9-100% WWAN is possibly working (depends on the model, see below under “issues”)....................

I have done a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit informed by Firestone and others on this Forum. Everything works well - in fact arguably better in terms of functionality of Stamina/Speed switch - with one exception.
I have not been able to install the WWAN successfully. I have tried a number of times to uninstall and reinstall the drivers from links on this site and also even tried the Sony EU support site Windows 7 drivers with no luck. I have tried asking windows to search for the best driver with no luck. Globetrotter Connect has installed correctly, as far as I can see, but just doesn't pick up the WWAN card.

I guess I have similar issues re drivers on win7 Home Premium 64bit. I recently did a clean install of the W7x64 (full retail) on my tt11wn/b (Core 2 Duo 1.2ghz, 4gb ram). Everything seems to be working fine, except for some driver problems:
- Light sensor doesn't work, even though it has been enabled in the vaio control center.
- Base System Device issue in the 'Device Manager', unrecognised device perhaps a card reader, but under 'SD host adapters' there is SDA standard compliant SD host controller recognised.
- Lastly, modem issues, recognised incorrectly - Globetrotter HSUPA Modem.
Have been surfing internet past few days for solutions, but didn't find any, also checked Sony Europen Support Portal for 64 bit drivers, which provides some but apparently not for the above. For me, the most important thing is get the light sensor working properly, otherwise I don't use the later 2 much anyway, but fixing them is good too.

I was told by Dell that the Vostro didn't support 64-bit addressing. What's not clear to me is if that means the hardware doesn't support it,
or just that they don't sell it with a 64-bit OS, or whether if you put your own Vista64 on it the Dell drivers would not work,

I bought myself the acer 8930 which has 32 bit vista
I know vista doesn't use part of the ram but my question was, does it really make a performance change to reckon with?
Also a few friends of me told me that my processor would not be supported very well by 64bit What's up with that? They say I need a 64 bit processor although many people here on the forum seem to do a clean install on models which have the same processor as mine

I just got this laptop (windows vista home premium 64bit) from newegg yesterday and I was wondering why in the task manger and the processes tab, most of the problems end with "*32".
For example:
firefox.exe *32
pidgin.exe *32
Steam.exe *32
I have never used Vista 64 bit before and I was wondering if something is wrong.
