What does HP recommend using to clean and disinfect a notebook keyboard? I've just been wiping mine down with a cloth but I would like to disinfect it once in a while too.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my keyboard. I think I've been unlucky enough that something has gotten under my 3 and t keys. Not just sitting underneath but in the mechanism itself it would seem. They still work, but they are stiff and I really have to press them to get them to respond. Is there anything I can try to fix it that won't require me to void my warranty or take it to get fixed?

Any recommendations on how to clean the LCD panel in a VAIO laptop?
I own the new Z series laptop and some of the keyboard oil smudges appear on the LCD now.
I tried cleaning with a microfiber cloth and this does not seem to work.
Can I use a isopropyl alcohol solution to clean this LCD
My touchpad tends to be sticky in operation. When left clicking - it stays down and makes it difficult when scrolling. Can I lubricate it ? Only four months old.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have noticed lately that my space bar sticks sometimes. I can be tying and when I look up I see words grouped together without spaces.. I've tried hitting the spacebar hard but I still get the same results.
I have tried using a keyboard and that works fine, so it must be my laptop.
I just received this lovely beast and yes, it's true...
Most definitely a finger print, and every other print magnet!
Can you please share some good ways to clean this machine, including the keys, the palm rests and the RGBLED screen?
My laptop doesnt over heat or anything but I have had this dell inspiron 1720 for over a year now and I really would like to clean out the fans/vents.
I read people's posts and they make it sound so easy to do. Well i flipped my laptop over and i look near the vents. There are no screws near the vent.
I also checked my manual and it does not show you how to get to the fan without taking the complete laptop apart. Is the 1720 really this hard to get to the fan or am i overlooking something?
I really don't feel like taking the screen off and then the keyboard just to get the fan.
i'm a noob at this so i need some help, my vostro 1400's fan would always make these noise that sounds like something is stuck in the fan and i think its because of the collection of dust....
so i need help to clean it but the bottom of the laptop has sooooooo many screws that i dnt even know which ones are the ones to open the whole laptop
i've been using this laptop for like a year, and i kinda used it unnormaly (dirty), so my question is how do you clean the metal surface and crums underneath the keyboard, is there a way to take off the keyboard?

I've had this laptop for a few months, the fan's all dusty 'cause my apartment's dusty and I need to know if there's a video or another post that tells you how to take apart some sort of HDX16 or 18.
I wanted to clean the fan of my laptop by using the air compressor periodically so that dust wouldn't build up. Is there a recommended way to do it? Does the fan suck from the bottom and blow out the back and side? I was planning to blow the air compressor into the bottom side where i believe the fan is sucking air. Is it ok to do this while the laptop is on or should I turn it off?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was looking for ways to clean my aging Dell 1710 and I came across a blog on the Dell site http://yourblog.direct2dell.com/2008...e-laptop-love/. The person says that it is better to use a vacuum instead of compressed air to clean the heatsink and fan. I though everyone used compressed air, first time heard of sucking out dirt and dust.

I've searched for the best method to clean the screen and the consensus seems to be using a 50% isopropyl alcohol solution onto a lint free microfiber or soft cloth and to go in small circular or one way motions.
Anyone have great success cleaning their screens with minimal smudging? Does this warrant contacting dell to get the screen replaced?
the smudge tracks are significant when the screen is off but otherwise when using the machine they are not noticeable. Otherwise no dead pixels and no other problems.
I'd like to clean the screen if I can, I've been meaning to clean my d820 anyway, I havent' cleaned that screen sine I've gotten it.
The 1330's faceplate [above the keyboard] attracts a lot of dust. How do you guys clean it? Sometimes, I find it hard to get it between the holes.

What is the best method?
Compressed air?
Do you take the back off and clean down the fans etc or does this void the warranty?
I was convinced that i had some background program running that was using too many resources, or some anti virus running , so i basically disabled everything that could be causing my fps to drop and still the problems continued.
I had the laptop on my lap the other day and noticed that it was unusually hot, i installed Speedfan and it gave me an idle temperature of
80c for both GPUS (8800s)
This seems to be rather high and im keen to find out if my fans are blocked or not and this could be causing my fps problems.
I have never used compressed air on my computer because im worried about just blowing the dust further inside the computer .....
I removed a label from the palm rest of my M6400. Unfourtunately it left behind a sticky residue. In my defense it was the "regulatory information is under the battery" sticker and I am pretty sure it is supposed to be easy to remove.

As far as i can see there is no way of accessing the fan, without taking the notebook to bits , there is no air intake above the fan like other notebooks , only 2 vents where you can see parts of the cooling system.
Now if i blow compressed air into these vents will the dust not just be blow all over the inside of the notebook, or will it just come out of the other vent.
Also i have read that you should secure the fan from running as not to damage it, but this is not possible without taking the notebook apart.
I can remove the hdd and memory covers without any problems, but i dont think this will give me access to the fan/cooling system.
My little brother owns this notebook and it get rather hot when used.
It has a Intel Celeron 575 running at 2,00 GHz and a Intel GMA 4500mhd on a Intel GL40 mainboard.
It reports that it runs at 60c when idle, but it feels very hot when in use.
Even my own system runs cooler and it includes a ATI Mobility X1600 that can get a little toasty when in use.
I would like to clean the speaker grill on my dv5000t without taking my laptop apart, but for some reason I can't find a way to do this.

I rwad a guide and it said all laptops were different so im wondering what this laptop is like. Is t ok to also blow dust etc out and not use compressed air if i cannot get compressed air?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought an X61 on ebay and installed Mint Linux, VirtualBox and the Win8.1 preview.
Â
All was going well, except that the heat worried me. The fan was going, but no air seemed to be coming out, so I followed the service manual and dismantled the whole machine. The area between the fan and the heatsink vanes was completely clogged with oily dust and felt, so I cleaned everything, lubricated the fan and re-assembled the machine.
Â
Now it will not turn on. No lights, nothing. I have checked all the internal connectors and all seem fine. I've done this sort of thing often in the past, although not in an X61.
Â
The one problem that I encountered was that the keyboard bezel was glued to the case bottom near the LH hinge and in prising the glue apart, I had to break a small piece out of the bezel at the back, and I have reassembled it with a slightly loose rear part of the bezel.
Â
So, my question is whether there is some sort of tiny switch in the video cable going up to the screen, and does this have to be accurately positioned wrt the bezel? Also, if I try to glue the bezel back together, would epoxy work with the bezel plastic or is there a better glue?
