Sony :: Intel Core 2 Duo Processorswill They All Be Made Redundant By Q1 2010
Nov 1, 2009
I am considering a range of Vaios at the moment (including some HP models; although Vaios are my #1 choice).
With the new Core i7 Processors out, I am wondering whether buying a Core 2 Duo processor of any sort (TT: SU; Z & SR: P9xxx, etc) now would mean they would be totally redundant by Q1 of 2010 or do you see some variants of the Core 2 Duo processor lasting a bit longer?
I realise technology continues to move forward at a rapid pace and was just curious about where Core 2 Duo stands in Q1 of next year.
what the performance difference is between the Intel Core i7-620M and the . Intel Core i7-820QM. I always thought the quad core 820QM was faster, but on the hp website the dual core 620M is more expensive.
Is the 620M faster? And is it faster for specific things only?
i heard that there are 2 types of sony, one made in japan and another one made in usa . is this true or what ? is there sony z series made in japan and another one made in usa ?and if yes, then what is the difference between the sony z series japan version and the sony z series usa version ?
I have a HP d103tx notebook that I bought some months ago and was working fine until this one day I installed the Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver from the HP website. After installing that only USB 3.0 port work and not USB 2.0 ports. I tried uninstalling it but no love.. Tried reinstalling it but still no love.. Tried changing the settings to default through BIOS but still..
Intel's core i3/i5/i7 Arrandale processors will be released soon (Q1 2010). They all have integrated graphics but support external graphics too. Do you think these processors will be used in Dell Latitude and/or Precision laptops?

how to overclock the P8600 processor but had no good luck, I know I can't overlclock through the BIOS, but I've heard of using programs such as SETFSB, but I don't know how exactly how I can use this program for my processor specifically. Does anyone know how to overclock my processor P8600 (1006 Mhz)
Here is some additional information:

users who had bought a machine with the new Core i7 chips along with the Intel P55 Express chipset were having issues with syncing their iPhones/iPods.
I'm curious if anyone knows if these notebooks can be overclocked? If so, how?
I read a review that one laptop vendor allowed over-clocking via BIOS but I'm not sure if Dell does this also and was hopeful that those of you much more learned than I could tell me if it's possible on the new Dell 6300 64 bit with the Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X9000 chip?

This thread is for Owners of the Studio XPS 1645 Intel Core i7!
Congrat’s to Garrett for being the first one to receive it…. And, as being the first to receive, Garrett….please…please lead into discussion! I’m sure there will be more Owners to follow shortly!
(oh, and I received permission to start this thread, if there are any questions from anyone)

Edit to the above (as requested by Ibrahim) 10/15/09...Peep's this really should clear up any confusion.!! Thanks Ibrahim : "Dell is having some issues with their invoices, particularly with monitor choice. If you ordered the RGBLED and it says WLED, don't worry: you still have the RGBLED, it is just marked incorrectly. Some users who ordered the RGBLED have these part numbers:
i have the acer aspire 6930G core 2 duo T5800 - Nvidia 9600M GT 512Mb GDDR 3 - 4Go 667mhz - 500Go 7200RPM - bios 3238... it's possible to install a intel quad core mobile Q9000 in this laptop?
Because the Studio XPS 1645 Intel Core i7 Owner's thread was getting pretty *thick* with *Order Status* Inquiries, etc... I thought it was time to get an *Order Status* thread started, since so many are ordering it! And, to lessen the *heavyness* felt with the Owner's thread.
Also, we really should keep Status Updates, Order Delays, Progress as such, separated in this section of the forum! It will make the other thread "easier on the eye" per se!
So, this thread is for all the SXPS 1645 owner's to post when they ordered, status updates only, and when received etc.....Basically this is a thread for Order Status (and all included w/in the thread title) ........
This was taken from engadget - Intel's quad-core i7-740QM and i7-840QM show up on Dell laptop menu -- Engadget
"Dell's propensity for dishing out new hardware without an announcement has struck again, though this time the company might have jumped the gun as not even Intel has yet officially acknowledged the existence of these Core i7 CPUs.
The i7-740QM and its senior sibling are straight replacements for the i7-x20QM models: they retain the same cache and eight-threaded operational paradigm while jacking default and Turbo Boost clock speeds up to a maximum 3.2GHz single-core pace on the i7-840QM. Best of all? Dell's price for the 740QM is currently lower than that for its predecessor, so you might wanna order one up before somebody wakes up
Do not post in this thread until you ACTUALLY take deliver of XPS 1645 I7. Since the other thread has been destroyed by the production fiasco, we will reserve this thread for reviews, questions, etc about the ACTUAL machine...
Intel Claims Core i5-Based MacBook Pro Promotion a Marketing Error
Quote:
Spanish site faq-mac.com, which was first to note an Intel promotion yesterday apparently revealing at least one forthcoming MacBook Pro based on the company's new Core i5 processors, now reports [Google translation] that Intel has revised the promotion to offer HP Envy notebooks instead of MacBook Pros, blaming a marketing error for the incorrect promotional materials. last month I upgrade the HSDPA board to the Vaio VGN-Z790LDX in order to use any sim card from any international cellphone company and it worked at first attempt .
now I just replaced the IFX-517 and the wwan to the Vaio VGN-TT290NBX and I have installed one IFX-517 having the sim card slot and I placed the unlocked wwan GTM382.
anyone did the same upgrade? which driver are the best in order to make it working properly?
I am asking this because I did try to install the Option driver /Globe Trotter Connect and the Vaio Smart Network but for many times it was not succefully done . the first times the minicard was in the device manager list but just till the laptop was on.......and after restart it was not there .
now finally after many times removing the driver and the minicard the system is working but I don't know for how long........
now I am wondering that I did mistake at the beginning because I mixed sony driver and Option drive and software.............in few words I made a Cocktail,
I have a quad core Lenovo W520 (i7-2820QM) equipped with Intel AMT. I have all RAM slots populated (original 2GB in each that came with the machine). I have updated to the latest BIOS (1.42 at the time of writing) and latest Intel Management Engine Firmware 7.1 (7.1.85.1216 at the time of writing). The machine has Crucial 256GB X100 SSD installed in the main compartment and a regular HDD in UltraBay.  The computer acts normally in sleep mode and restart sequence only when Intel AMT states that "ME is in recovery state..." during boot.  When it looks like AMT is happy problems begin. The problem is that when I'm trying to put the computer to sleep it goes all the way until the end per normal procedure and then suddenly decides to power itself off! Obviously Windows doesn't like this and displays recovery suggestions after starting the laptop again. This happens when connected to AC and also when disconnected from it. Also, when computer reboots it turns off all power (i.e. the display along with backlight, indicator LEDs turn off and fans spin down for a sec) inbetween and automatically starts up after that.  I've tested this on Windows 7 and openSUSE 13.1 (which I had lying nearby) and same behavior happens on both OSes. On Windows, all the latest drivers and updates were installed. So I don't think this is driver nor OS dependent - rather firmware/hardware related problem.  What is funny, it doesn't matter whether Intel AMT is activated in BIOS or not. What matters is whether the Management Engine is in some kind of recovery state or not. When it's not, computer starts acting crazy as stated above and behaviour is repeatable. Intel AMT itself seems to work however. Changing the power policy in Intel ME configuration doesn't work for sleep issue.  Some things I've also tried doing: * Replace CMOS battery (measured its voltage before putting it in, of course) with a new one - no effect * Tried two different brands of SSDs (OCZ Vertex 3 and Crucial X100) - no effect * Tried both legacy and UEFI modes - no effect * Scanned RAM for memory errors - no effect  Could Lenovo try to repeat this issue and possibly do something about this?
