Dec 9, 2009I purchased a Vaio Z last week from SonyStyle (CTO - 6GB RAM, Windows 7 pre-installed, Fresh Start etc).
Everything on the system seems great, but I am having an issue with HDMI output selection thru the Vaio Centre software.

May 29, 2009My TV's native resolution is 1366 x 768. My VAIO FW-190 has Intel Chipset and both the Windows built in software and Intel provided graphic card settings software do not show the 1366x768 resolution. I can't find a way to set the Vaio's HDMI output to that resolution.

Aug 2, 2009I just submitted an order for a new vaio z and while waiting for it I thought I'd look into getting a nice external monitor for home use. After reading through the forum, I can't find any report of a vaio z owner successfully attaching an external monitor with a resolution of more than 1920 x 1200 (due to no dvi-dl compatibility). Specifically, I was hoping to get a 30" 2560 x 1600 monitor.
Is it safe to conclude that it is impossible to connect a 2560 x 1600 external monitor to my new vaio z?
Sony :: FW 290 HDMI Resolution
Jan 2, 2009I have a FW 290 with the ati graphics card. When I connect the laptop to my tv with the hdmi cable the resolution is displayed correctly on the tv at 1920*1080. However, when I disconnect the cable the laptop resolution goes to 1440*900 instead of 1600*900. So there are black lines on the edges of the screen. If I go to display settings or to the ati catalyst control center I cannot change the resolution back to 1600*900. 1440*900 is displayed as the max. The only way I can fix this is by restarting the computer.

Apr 10, 2009thinking of getting the Vaio Z but still cannot decide which resolution to go for (1366x768 or 1600x900). I've got some pics that should help you guys out. Unfortunately, I do not have any side by side comparison photos between the 2 of them. Furthermore, I do apologize for my very poor camera & photography skills.
One thing to take note of is that for both Vaio Z, all the setting are in their "default" values (Default screen resolution, 96 DPI, etc.)

Sony :: Vaio Z Horrible Text And Fonts On 1280 X Resolution
Oct 8, 2009i just bought a Sony Vaio Z (1600x900 resolution) and noticed that the 1600x900 resolution is way to small for me, cant barley see any text on the screen
so when i change to the next resolution (1280x) all the text and fonts get horribly blurry and "loses" the crisp that it had in the 1600x

May 17, 2010Ive been using a 40 inch HDTV ever since I received my Z about a month ago. I had to move recently, and now when i attempt to use the display it looks very strange, almost as if someone turned the digital vibrance or contrast setting up all the way. The text looks strange, and it is overall unpleasant to look at. I checked all of the settings and everything is the same as before, and tried varying the resolution and color settings. I can't figure it out!
I can take a picture if that would help explain better. I also checked the TV's settings and I do not believe that is the issue.
I also tried reinstalling the NVIDIA drivers from sonys website to no avail.
Sony :: Vaio Z21 HDMI- 1920x1200
May 12, 2010I use a Benq 1920x1200 at work and one at home via HDMI-DVI cable. It worked well until the Benq at home died. I got money back from Benq and bought a Dell U2711 and thought that I could get 2560x1440 resolution on my Sony.
I use Win7. But what really makes me is that the highest resulution on the Dell U2711 I can get is 1600x1200!
I can't choose 1920x1200 from the Screen resolution chooser in Win 7.
I can set 1920x1080 in the the Screen resolution chooser in Win 7, but then I get a dark screen on Dell showing text "unsupported resolution".
Powerstrip monitor info says that 1920x1200x60Hz is supported, but not 1920x1080, so the "unsupported resolution" on Dell monitor is correct.
But how do I make is possible to choose 1920x1200 from Win7?
When I try to use Powerstrip to make resolution 1920x1200 I get the error message: "This parameters you have specified may be beyond the capabilities of your monitor or graphics card. Please recheck the resolution, horizontal and vertical refresh rates, and the pixel clock to ensure they are within spec.". But I can't do anything more...
So how do I at least make it possible to use 1920x1200 on the big 2560x1440 screen?
Sony :: Vaio FW HDMI Output
Feb 10, 2010I have a Sony Vaio FW laptop with a HDMI output, when i had vista i could plugin my hdmi output in to my TV hdmi input and immediatly see my computer display on my TV. As soon as i upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, when i plugin the hdmi cable nothing happens, i am unable to get my tv and laptop to notice each other, Win 7 doesnt seem to notice at all.

Apr 19, 2009I currently own a dv5-1235dx. The native resolution for this laptop is 1280x800. However, when I connect the HDMI cable to my laptop, the maximum resolution my display settings will allow is 1024x768. This makes it look awful on the TV, stretching a 4:3 display across a 16:9 screen.

Nov 3, 2009The problem is i have just plugged my laptop into my 1080p samsung TV it finds it and it displays it on my tv and some ATI program pops up, so the picture isnt the best and doesnt take up the whole TV, so i go to the hdmi settings on my laptop and there are 3 options 720 768 and 1080............ i want 1080 but its shadowed out, i cannot click it it, all i can click is the first option!
why this is so? the max resolution on the laptop is 1377x768 on my laptop........ is that the problem? I would really like the 1080p option, the sound comes through my tele etc and it seems great.... but the pic qual aint great.

Jan 24, 2010my vaio z21wn/b with hybrid graphics (nvidia 9300m en intel gpu) wont allow me to output graphics trough HDMI on a 720p tv. However, when i connect the laptop to a 1080p tv trough HDMI it does work.. strange huh?
i've tried several drivers (Nvidia, sony presentation helper, sony control center) and display resolutions, but i cant manage to get it working..

Sep 12, 2009Put Windows 7 on Vaio 620n. I get audio (through HDMI) but only 2 channel.
In the driver window it says Max number of channels 2/ HDCP not supported.
When I play a channel mapping wav file, everything is mapped to the front of my system.
Im using the Nvidia Vista driver that originally came with the system. Because every other driver I find is useless. Amazing that Sony is so behind as far as Windows 7 driver support.
So I guess my question is:
is anyone in a similar situation having more success than me -and how?

May 18, 2009I have a Sony Vaio 17 inch full HDMI laptop using Vista. I have been using a HDMI cable connected to my TV for a few months now all working fine yet today for no apparent reason the sound has started coming through my laptop rather than the TV. I have gone to the control panel and tried switching the default sound to the realtec digital however this did not work and I ended up with no sound at all.I have tried two different players both VLC and Zoom player.

Jan 30, 2009I decided to try playing some 720p video on my Sanyo 42" LCD HDTV (native res 1366x768). I assumed it would be as easy as just connecting an HDMI cable and setting my m1530 to clone desktop.. I couldn't have been more wrong.
After doing some research it appears that LCD HDTVs aren't as flexible as regular LCD monitors with respect to HDMI input. No matter what I do, the screen always appears cropped around the edges on my TV.
What I've tried so far:
1) Setting a custom 1366x768 resolution in the nVidia control panel.
2) Tried setting my hdtv as primary monitor and setting the res.
3) Used Powerstrip (program) in an attempt to force a 1366x768 res (not sure if I'm doing this entirely correctly, I'm a little confused over what the correct advanced timings should be).
4) I hear this issue is called "overscan", so I looked through my TV menu for any overscan or zoom/image scaling options but couldn't find any.
I'm using the 179.28 Nvidia driver.
I'm running out of things to try, does anyone know how to make this thing work?

Mar 14, 2009How can I get the exact resolution of 1360x768 (720p) in my HP dv2700 using the HDMI cabel? I currently have the 179.48 drivers installed and I couldnt figure a way to get a 1360x768 !? I tried using customs resolution but it wont work, the TV (samsung) keeps giving me a 1920x1080 which is not the native resolution.
I also own a desktop with an Nvidia 8800gt graphics card and it recognizes the 1360x768 resolution immediately, I dont why this is happening since both the laptop and desktop use similar drivers?

I am trying to get 2560x1440 graphics to be broadcast to my external monitor over HDMI
When I try to create a custom resolution in the Graphics Control Panel one of three things happens.
1. I get a message saying that the resolution I am trying to create isn't possible
2. I create the custom resolution, however when I try to adjust it in the Screen Resolution menu Windows tells me that it can't broadcast the resolution.
3. The resolution broadcasts, but it is terrible quality, and looks like it is vibrating.
*Note: I had this setup previously, but I had to reinstall Windows recently, downgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 7, and now I can't get it to work.

The Vaio FW11S only has an analogue headphone jack, and a HDMI output. Is it possible to get 24bit digital audio from my HDMI output to the digital inputs on the iBasso?

My TV is Panasonic TH-L32B6. When I connect my laptop to TV it shows me awful picture quality and notification that “this is not optimal screen resolution for the primary display. The optimal res. Is 1280x720”. But with 1280x720 it’s still awful. It works fine just with 1024x768 res. I have no such a problem with my other TV LG 47LS570Y. How can i fix picture quality with higher resolution? I tried another OS like Ubuntu and a couple of hdmi cables…(see attachment)
