I plan to buy the Sony Z610Y/B in Bestbuy and downgrade the OS from 64bit vista to 32bit XP. Is it possible? I also would like to know if the downgrade DVD come with the laptop or not.
I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the 1366x768 screen on the VGN-Z610Y/B to the 1600X900 from the VGZ-Z690 or something or if there is some type of bios limitation that I should be aware of
I am trying to decide between a Macbook pro 13" or a Sony VGN-Z610Y/B. What bothers me is I am having a horrible time finding reviews on the VGN-Z610Y/B. What's up with that?
Just bought the Z610Y from BB and would like to upgrade to Samsung 64gb SSD SLC. I am thinking of upgrading to only one SSD not 2 SSDs with RAID. Has someone succesfully upgrade this particular model's HDD to SSD? Z610Y has 125mb of Nvidia graphic and Z690 CTO has the 256mb graphic memory. Are these two model have the same type of motherboard?
I know that some members in this forum have the Z690 and they could upgrade to SSD. I think my Z has the same motherboard as the Z540, I am not sure whether my Z can be upgraded to SSD.
I believe I've downloaded all the drivers from Sony's web page. I can't get the function keys such as brightness and volume working. Is there an order to installing them or a file I may have missed? I have a Sony Z series Vaio VGN-Z610Y. I'm running Windows 7 enterprise x64.
what Sony's policy (Sony USA) is on providing a 32-bit version of Vista with the laptops that now only include the 64-bit version (such as the Sony VAIO Z7xx series)?
From the information I have come across, apparently it is at your laptop manufacturer's discretion to provide you with a 32-bit OEM copy (which would also need a different product key than the one provided with the laptop for the 64-bit version, since it is OEM and not retail) or leave you to purchase your own copy. Does anyone have experience with Sony in this regard?
if the Windows 7 upgrade kit will also be 64-bit only?
trying to "Downgrade" my Laptop from Vista to XP, I have a legal copy of XP and when I boot from disk it wont install it just says that it cannot find a HD to install to. I downloaded a copy of XP to see if my disc was just broken or something and it let me format my HD and install XP, the only problem i have with that is i wont be able to perform updates and i only have a small screen in the middle of my display (i assume this is because some drivers are missing) also i cant connect to the internet because there are drivers missing. I have been on the sony website and downloaded some but they dont work, i think its because there designed for Vista.
So my question is this, does anyone know how I can get my LEGAL copy of XP to install and also does anyone know where I can get compatible drivers for it? My Laptop is VGN-NR38E/S.
I have spent many hours trying to downgrade my TZ330E from Vista to XP. I need to load a couple of programs that will not work under Vista. I have all the XP files from Sony esupport ready to go and a valid XP installation cd. However, when the XP installer finally runs I get an abort message "A problem has been detected and Windows..." with the error message: STOP: 7B-F78DA63C-C0000034-0-0. The disk is partitioned: C=20G, D=74G. The machine works fine under Vista.
I assume it is something to do with the disk, but I have tried downloading a variety of Sony drivers for Raid and SATA disks and using the F6 and S options but to no avail. Sony says the TZ330E disk drive is "ultra ATA" which I thought the XP installer should know about.
I am hoping to avoid Vista all together and jump straight from XP to 9. I am sure I have read in some reviews that the Z comes with a downgrade disk but I now can't find mention of it! does it?
Also if you do downgrade do all the features like speed/stamina mode etc... work as they do under Vista?
My z540 seem to have an great deal of unwillingness to install window xp pro.
1. Blue screened right after it boot into the installation disk
2. Blue screened right before where you would go partition the drive
3. Black screen right after restart from copying files to hardrive - does not want to boot
What is going on? is my z540 curses? Or is there others?
I had the laptop warranty once already for other reason (keyboard and screen problem) cough. and they also ran a diagnostic check on hardware and it passed everything.
I am so tired of vista kept bugging out on me - half the time , my fn keys and stamina/speed switch does not even work after i used for a couple of days -.- and other reasons
I needed to downgrade one of my SZ's to XP, and all went fine until the network driver install - but the automated driver install for the rest of the components seems not to have 'taken'. I followed the instructions to the letter and every time I boot Windows it asks me for the drivers fo the video, fingerprint reader, sound, etc etc.
What did I do wrong, and how do I get around it? It was for a piece of software which is XP only that I'm required to run, but if I can't solve this easily I'm just going to say to the guy I only run Vista and let him worry about it.
I've tried searching on how to do this. Every time I try and downgrade, it looks like it works then all of a sudden it goes to the blue screen that says something like windows will have to shut down to prevent blah blah
- Vista's Ramblings I recently got a brand new VGN-FW31M laptop. When the power button was pressed for the first time, the Vista tyrrany started to uncompress itself... After waiting patiently for 15-20 minutes, the entire process was completed. This notebook has some muscle in it so vista should be no problem for it. The experience was a bitter-sweet disappointment. I am a power user and I don't like junk applications and sloppy OSes. The preconfigured installation was infested with sony's garbage plus tons of other trial and advertising stuff. Disgusted with all this mayhem, I rebooted the system to test it's responce. It took 30+ SECONDS for the system to shut down and even more to boot windows! I couldn't believe this... Even my oldest PIII rig could do better on XP. After several restarts and OS optimizations, the systems response times stayed more or less the same. Jerky mouse movement when using multitasking, delays and constant hd activity. The performance sucked for my standards. Imagine how it would be in 6 months with full application grinding! XP downgrade was the only thought on my mind and after several days of pondering, experimenting and forum reading.
- Testing the XPrience: I managed to switch to xp sp3 with 99% of the features (buttons, devices) working. The driver for Ati HD3470 that I am currently testing is a 9.1 modified desktop catalyst. The mod was done with Mobility Modder.NET 1.2. Fallout 3 works fluidly on medium graphics with good stability. I am currently testing high graphic settings with messy and crowded environment. Will post benchmarks later.................
This is a short instruction how to downgrade a Sony Vaio VGN-FW21E from Vista to Windows XP. Please add/comment if anything is missing!
--- Build a Windows XP installation CD You need to build a new Windows XP installation CD with SATA drivers.
Use a English Windows XP CD with sp1 as base. Download the drivers and use nLite to build and burn a new Windows XP installation CD. (Select all drivers in the list to the new XP installation CD) SATA drivers download.....
I've my VAIO SR290NTB, it came with vista business preinstalled only without the XP downgrade disk. I can order the CD from their web site. but i'm wondering if i ordered the disk does it mean i don't have the license to use vista again. or i will have both windows versions licensed.
I' got a new VGN-FW375J laptop, it was cheap, but I would like to downgrade Vista Home to XP, and need drivers.
I have an original XP Disk but that does not installing. because first I need to download somewhere a driver to Blue-Ray disk driver, to unpack my XP disk and to incorporate there that driver and burn a new boot disk.
But the first a have to be sure that there are all driver for this laptop or it will be a waist of time.
One of the most troublesome consequences of downgrading your VAIO to Windows XP is not being able to adjust the screen brightness using the F5/F6 keys.
This tutorial aims to (i) resolve that issue, and (ii) retain the ability to adjust brightness when you update to the latest LaptopVideo2Go drivers. The below methods have been tested on VAIO FZ, FW, and NS laptops with NVIDIA GeForce 8X00M cards, and they are working flawlessly with the LV2G 190.15 driver.
Part 1: Enabling Fn Brightness Control
Skip this step if your brightness control is already working
In order to be able to use the brightness control on a XP-Downgraded machine, you need:
1. VAIO Event Service Hotfix (Which updates the VESConfig.ini file for the VAIO Event Service) -> You can get this at[url]. -> If you have an FZ, you can use the VESConfig.ini I have attached
2. NVIDIA Driver with Customised nv4_disp.inf (Refer to Part 2)............
i have everything except the audio working properly. after installing all the drivers i can find i end up with a second hd audio driver with the yellow question mark and no driver i try will install to fix it. i start with 2 hd audio drivers the conextant fixes one of them and the modem one is also installed.. what the heck is the other one for? i did use the microsoft one first then the hotfix for sp3 then the conextant and no matter what that extra one will not go away.. also no audio will play in media player or startup sounds etc..
I'm trying to install windows XP Pro 32-Bit on an hp notebook (dv7-3160us) but am getting the blue screen of death. I've tried to use nLite following other threads but none of the sata drivers are working for me.
About to purchase a new E6400 and still deciding which operating system.
I noticed that I have a choice to downgrade to windows XP which I am extremely familiar and happy with. Im not familiar that much with Vista and I am concerned with all the complaints I hear.
I definitely expect to upgrade to Windows 7 when available in the winter.
Im just not sure which operating system i should go with now until then. Did anyone else have this delemna?
The fan in my Studio 1555 keeps going off very often. So I switched from a T9550 to a P8400 and the problem still exists. Will downgrading my current BIOS (A06) to a previous version be harmful?
