I have a sony vaio vgn-n130g the person i got this from said had no power so i took it apart to check the jack, everything looked ok i unpluged the jack wire from MB and plugged it back in.
then i plugged in power cord and it fired up.i turned it on and off a few times worked good so i put it back together...worked fine after i got it all together and fired it up it booted and then i moved the notebook and the battery wasnt in all the way .
I recently got a sony vaio CW at bestbuy yesterday. The link for it is below. Brought it home and started using it.
Everything worked perfectly for the first hour, and then the wireless just went out. It will no longer allow me to search for wireless networks. Two other laptops in my house are working fine so its not the router.
The wireless switch on the front is ON, however the little light is not lit. When I go to the SmartWi Connection Utility in the taskbar, it only lists an on/off option for Bluetooth, no Wifi option
My new Sony VAIO SR 390 arrived yesterday. When I turn on the computer, restart, awake from sleep, etc, I have to manually disconnect and reconnect to my wireless network. If I don't, I have the little yellow triangle in the tray saying "unidentified network" and the internet doesn't work.
I have turned the wireless switch on and off, disabled and enabled the connection, updated the driver, and changed the power settings in the device manager. All of this has not helped.
Other than that, I have had no problems and I'm very happy with the computer. I haven't noticed the battery drain issue either.
everytime i go to use my laptop it will wirelessly connect to my router but then a minute or two later some times even shorter time it disconnects and then reconnects and it just repeats the procedure and ive tried updating wireless drivers of intel and sonys website and still does it...so if anyone has had these problems and resolved them or someone has any insight on what it might be please let me know...my hunch is it might be the router if it is can you let me know what a good router is?
My 4 week old Z is unable to detect the wireless device. The switch is on and the green light is on, but the wireless device is not detected. I checked the device manager and installed the newest drivers from the Sony website, but the computer still fails to identify the wireless.
I contacted ESupport and they were completely worthless, telling me to reinstall my program and drivers and, when that failed, told me to do a full recovery. I did that and it still failed. I live in an university area and there are tons of connections. It worked fine until today when I forced the computer to shut down due to its lack of response.
I've been using my Sony Vaio Z-540 without a problem for about a YEAR until recently (about a month?), my wifi has been acting up.
My wireless card is Intel 5100 AGN
The problems are: 1. Sometimes, I do not get wireless from the startup . my wireless isn't even in the Device Manager...
2. When I do get wireless (Device manager confirmed), wifi connection disappears with even the SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT!
3. When I do lose the wireless driver (no more on the device manager), I put it to sleep, wait 5 seconds, wake up, and my vaio detects it. [but this isn't the case for ALL the time, sometimes I have to restart the vaio]
I thought it was a loose wire or loose card, so I opened it. The wireless card is bolted down with 2 screws. So i put everything back and it still has the SAME issue.
Also, I've updated the Intel 5100 Driver to the latest (When I finally got my Wireless driver seen on the device manager) but still the SAME problem, so I'm back on my OLD driver. still same problem, of course.
when I do have my wifi, my wifi just disappears with the SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT on my laptop. It has to be still...
Some days ago my wife dropped my Sony Z21 from about 1 meter. Everything seems to work fine except Wlan, Bluetooth and HSDPA. I don't think that any of those modules are broken or something as everything else survived the drop. Does anyone know if all 3 wireless options are connected through some kind oa board? If so then I assume the connection is loose and that causes the wireless to drop. At the beginning it turned on and off the wireless ramdomly...
I have a VAIO SZ-650N/C laptop and I cannot turn on wireless. The switch doesnt work, switching it in the on and off position doesnt light up the WLAN indicator and every time i try to connect to the internet it says "Please turn on the hardware switch and try again"
I own a Z series Z540. After multiple Vista reinstalls and driver reinstalls, the wireless connection always drops. It would maintain connection for about 5 minutes, then it drops again. The wireless light stays on though.
I tried going on XP and ssee how that works out. Same problem, except that it drops when I MOVE it. And when it drops, the wireless light turns off, and when I move it back into a certain position again, the wireless light goes back on, and the wireless is back.
However, when I am on vista, the connection just drops for no reason, even without touching it, every 5 minutes. The light does stay on, though.
I'm trying to update my Sony VAIO VGN-CR510D/W graphic's driver (GM965). Intel's site has the newest one 7.15.10.1666 and mine is currently at 7.14.10.1295. I go to "Update Driver" in my Device Manager but It does not find a new one. I downloaded the new one manually but it won't let me install it (Not supported). I am running Vista Home Premium 32bit.
When Installing the Sony Drivers, it is NECESSARY to install 01, 02, and 03, in that order (and it may be necessary to run 01 as an administrator). Otherwise you may not have functioning FN keys and other anomalies.

I recently downgraded my sony vaio from Vista to Xp. And with the help of this site and others, have tracked down nearly all of the drivers needed to make it work. The only thing I am having problems with is the sound card. In the device manager, it shows that the SigmaTell High Definition Audio Codec has an error code 10 (will not start) I am not sure what else to try to cure this and get sound back on the laptop.
I've upgraded my vaio z47gd to 64 bit win7. However my nvidia graphic driver messed up. It seems like screen divided to two sections with bad refresh rate. Anyone else having this problem?.
Also can anyone point me to the right place to download win7 64 bit drivers. I can't see them on the sony site.
I would like to let you know that the search is over. Sony had posted all the bios and drivers for Vaio Z Windows 7. You can go to here to get the bios:
Vaio Z Windows 7 Official driver available now!
Thanks for sh4rkt for the bios link. Everything is working now, including the brightness control in speed mode.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FS93S laptop. It is about 4-5 years old. I bought it in Thailand so I think it is a Sony Asian region model.
I installed Windows 7 on it today without any problems. It runs fine, but I am having some driver problems as expected. Even though there are a couple of red lights in the Device Manager, all my hardware is working fine except for the wireless network card. I don’t mind the errors in the Device Manager as long as everything works somehow. But I also can’t get the function keys working on the laptop, which I would like to have working too.
I called Sony in Thailand and they said the laptop is too old so Sony won’t be supporting it with new drivers for Windows 7.
Are there any Windows 7 drivers from other Vaio models which might be compatible with my laptop?
Does anyone with VAIO Z and installed with win7 x64 notice the fingerprint driver have a little problem?

I've noticed on several occasions that the sound output is not restored after unplugging the noise-cancelling headphones. Volume up and down (via FN key) have no impact. Usually, Muting and then Unmuting resolves the issue, which seems to point to a driver issue.
Anybody know what the solution is to the toshiba bluetooth driver that keeps causing explorer errors? I have a VGN-SZ660N. Toshiba makes a update to the driver, but it is only for Toshia brands. As of now I do not know of a solution to this problem from Sony.
just started using this laptop last night and now when watching a video it sputtered and turned white got a brief message saying some Video driver has been recovered
Recently I have been receiving a ridiculous amount of BSOD's. Today alone I have received at least 15 of them and they all display the same message "There was a display driver timeout".
It always happens randomly and I can never repeat the exact situation. It just BSOD when it wants.
The error code which appears is: atikmdag 0x00000116 (0x86eb9510, 0x8f228c14, 0x00000000, 0x00000002)
i have managed to install Windows7 in my 3years old Vaio VGN-FE31M laptop. so i just need the nvidia graphics card driver now. i have tried the latest one from nvidia website, but its not compatible. my nvidia is Nvidia Geforcego 7600.
