I own a Sony VAIO VGN-S460 wich has de heating known issue.
I found a post in this forum wich talks about a BIOS revision R0101V0 or R0102V0 that solves this issue.
However the post is closed (it is from 2005) and all de download links are dead and I can't find anywhere those BIOS.
I could find R0103V0, but it needs neither R0101V0 or R0102V0 installed for the update.

Updated: Found a better way to backup Bios only, Please see the end of this message
Let say your Vaio Z is using Bios R4040M3 and you move to Bios R4041M3 to use the official VT support. Later on, you want to move back to R4040M3 to use the Advance Menu hack. Unfortunately, you cannot move back as Sony never publish the R4040M3 Bios update. This is my current situation.
I decided to investigate a way to back up the current Bios. Using a program called Universal extractor, I managed to extracted the files in the original Bios update. The bios update uses a program called Insydeflash to flash the Bios. The Insydeflash uses a file called platform.ini to control its setting.
In the platform.ini file, there is a section called [FDFile]. The section [FDFile] has a parameter called BackupName. If we put in a file name here, the Insydeflash should save your current Bios into that file. Unfortunately, I cannot make it work with the Sony supplied Insydeflash. (version 3.38).
I managed to get the newer version of Insydeflash (version 3.72). The newer version has a new ini section called [BackupROM], as the following:
..........
[BackupROM]
Flag=0
FilePath=c:
FileName=....................

I am very close to deciding on Sony for my next machine.
Half of the people hate them. Half love them. Half the reviews say there are crap. Half say they are machines built by Gods.
It is a lot to sift through.
The WEIRDEST thing I have heard is about the BIOS and how it is not really a completely hardware controlled BIOS like most are .....

i bought a battery from ebay and the battery came with a disc driver that had to be installed before the battery can work. i installed the driver but what it does is flash the bios with an update for the battery. long story short the battery does not work and will return it but i am having problems now with my video controller does not regognize my video card and reinstalling the original driver does not work and also my network adapter is gone does not see it at all. i treid to flash the bios with the backup that the battery update made but still no success still having problems with the video and network eithernet adapter. i think the update flash screwed up my original bios and i cant find the original bios anywhere. sony website does not have it. does anyone have or know where i can download the original bios for my laptop.

For some reason, when I access the BIOS settings menu, most of the options are greyed out (e.g. I can't switch off the requirement for a password at boot).
Any idea how to re-enable the settings?

if it is possible to update my Z540C's bios (current version: R2168M3) to R4041M3 without any problems?
My concern is there might be some hardware issues that might compromise the performance of the laptop given the fact that my model is an older one.

I flashed by BIOS with the R4041M3 so I can install the latest NVidia drivers for Windows 7.
I wanted to enable "Advanced" options with the InsydeH20 hack (which requires EFI boot) - and I kept getting those
"Remove disc or other media" messages.
I thought something went wrong with my USB stick, tried at least 5 of them and finally also tried Windows image itself - with no luck!
Then, I switched back to old BIOS - and the EFI boot worked immediately on the first USB drive!

I have a Sony SZ90 notebook, and would like to run a BIOS update on it. I have the latest BIOS (that I found with help from chaps on this forum). However it won't recognise the notebook when I run it.
I have wondered whether this is because I added a BIOS password to it ages ago. I know the password.
I would like to remove the password, but cannot for the life of me find how to do this in the BIOS.
Does any one know how to remove the BIOS password?

I have been having several problems with this laptop:
- When the computer boots, it boots extremely sluggish and takes as long as 15 MINUTES to finally be able to use the laptop without issues.
I tried wipping the OS and install Windows 8.1 again (I deleted all the partitions and reinstalled a new copy of windows), it worked a bit, the sluggish boot was reduced from 15 minutes to 2 or 3 minutes. I was updating all the drivers and everything, when suddenly i thought it was a good to update the bios in order to finally fix that problem.
As soon as i started the bios update, the laptop restarted and showed a blue box with the text: "Flashing Boot Block", below, it shows the percentage number and it's stuck on 77%. I have leave the laptop for hours on that screen and the number dont increase. I tried to restart the laptop by doing a hard reset, but as soon as i turn on the laptop the "Flashing boot Block" Box appear and it starts all over again, and again, it gets stuck at 77%.

I`m very happy to have found a way to enable VT.
If you doenst know what VT is - YOU DONT NEED IT ^^
At first i was a little bit afraid, to take the risk to hack the Bios, but finally i take it.
Not only VT works now fine, also the advanced Bios Setup Screen, let me finetune everything i ever dream from. You could tweak many things, dont do there anything, if you doent know what you do.
Ok, back to Topic:
After some Internetresearch i found this link:
[url]
Please follow the instructions exactly. I have do also the same reverse for testing - you could go back, if you want.
But: with every Bios tweaking - you lose your warranty.
Here my Statement on this Blog. PLEASE, look there there if your Model is supportet - FIRST.....................

For even more advanced options (Overclocking, undervolting!) it is needed to disassemble setup executable to figure out where are those items stored. They are definitely inside the setup, but are not accessible even with this unlock.
VSS register which controls advanced menu is now: 0x258 (for old Z, it was 0x25A) - in advanced menu, you can configure SATA controller to IDE/AHCI/RAID, change lots of advanced features etc...
Now, I cannot share my bios dump as the serial number is inside. But I can give you info how to do it................

I have a XPS M1530 that has seen very little use but unfortunately won't boot now. It is stuck on the bios screen that displays the dell logo - the progress bar on this page only displays about 15% complete and will not progress any further under any circumstances. I have performed the diagnostic boot option of holding down the <FN> key before power on and this displays just the caps lock flashing rapidly - the flashing does not halt. The other diagnostic lights (scroll and num lock) remain unlit except at the initial boot they flash once as per normal.
As dell has not published the diagnostic codes. The laptop is "as new" if a few years old now and I would like to keep it for sometime to come - the purchase price at the time was ~£1300. One reason I bought dell was for the after sales care - I understand there have been various issues with this particular series of laptop which is unfortunate but I am hopeful to get it working again at reasonable cost.

I bought an Open-box Vaio FW from BestBuy Canada a few days ago; they assured me the product had no defects, and told me I could return it for a full refund in 2 weeks.
I have clean installed Windows 7, undervolted, optimized everything, and discovered just recently a stuck pixel near the top edge of my screen.
