Was a happy owner of the new Z (HDD model) and was looking to do some work with installing a new Intel X25.
The disassembly process went fine at first but things fell apart on the 2nd go (when I did to open it the 2nd time to fix the rubber part holding the HDD)....
I have a dv9000 series and the the ribbon cable that goes from the power button to it's respective conector on the motherboard is a bit damaged one of the metal contacts at one end has "skinned" off.
What would you do, look for a replacement online, i doubt a shop would stoc such a thing, of do these cables tend to be standard, the model number of the cable is E118077.
Also you should be able to completely remove a motherboard, including detaching it from the screen and still power the fan on, obvioulsy with the battery connected?
It's this cable, [url] could you somewow slice the end off and then cut a small section so you have some new contacts showing?
The internel cable that connects the motherboard to the keyboard and the mousepad got worn off. I have mistakenly damaged it while cleaning my laptop from dust.
Is there an online store that sells that cable so I could fix it my self?
I have an XPS M1530, 18 months old, and I am very happy with it.
Over the past few weeks I have noticed a problem with the display, any white parts of the screen image show as red or turquoise colour heavily lined, or black text may have a red halo.
I can easily correct this by changing the angle of tilt of the screen....
My HP notebook's keyboard frequently stopped functioning. Each time required that I turn off the computer then turn it back on again. Recently the amount of time between each off/on was so short as to make the machine unusable, except when at home with an external keyboard. So I decided to venture into ensuring the keyboard was securely attached to the motherboard. I'm not expert and ended up breaking one leg of the plastic snap-on that holds the keyboard ribbon onto the motherboard. Oops.
So now I would like to know where I can obtain another one of these cute little snap-on thingies. I've looked into purchasing a new keyboard, which I'll probably do anyway, but I confirmed with a number of sellers that the plastic snap-on is included with the motherboard, not the keyboard. Bummer. So anyone have a suggestion on where I can get this snap-on thingy from?
Note that my notebook is an nx7000 and the keyboard has a model number 337016-001. Also, I've attached a photo of the snap-on thingy:
how to fit my new keyboard, its a Vaio VGN-AR11m and its the same as the old one i took out, i push the cable in and try and push the little plastic clamp down but it just wont stay in,
I am connecting to a Samsung 32" LCD TV and it connects fine with my Toshiba, Alienware but with my VAIO Z, nothing happens only check signal cable is display (even though the VAIO Z identifies the second display as Samsung). When I restart the PC I saw the image transmitted. When it is fully restated they separate again as if it is not connected.
This occures with both graphics cards the Z has. I am running VISTA business. Is there something I am doing wrong. I do not have an HDMI cable now. Only the VGA. It this a faulty graphica card (both of them?) Both graphics cards work fine with no problem though or is it the port or the software?
I have a Sony Vaio 17 inch full HDMI laptop using Vista. I have been using a HDMI cable connected to my TV for a few months now all working fine yet today for no apparent reason the sound has started coming through my laptop rather than the TV. I have gone to the control panel and tried switching the default sound to the realtec digital however this did not work and I ended up with no sound at all.I have tried two different players both VLC and Zoom player.
i have a sony vaio vgn-fs315E. I brought it as spares or repairs. i got a xp home disk to install a new operating system.
When i put the disk in and start up the comp everything goes fine untill it says "press any key to install from disk" or whatever it says. So i press any key but nothing happens. I tried like every key on the keyboard but it just dont want to register that i have pressed a key.
Do you think this is a keyboard problem or something more serious?
My Vaio Z11 laptop came with a German keyboard layout (QWERTZ), as I purchased it from Austria. I'm using English as the input language and I sometimes have trouble remembering where some punctuation marks are.
Can I replace the keyboard? If yes, how doable is that by me? If so, how? Where can I buy the replacement English Q keyboard? (Actually, where can I find spare parts for Vaio Z series?)
I have just bought a Vaio VPCF117HG (top of the line) here in Singapore and the advertising said it had a backlit keyboard.
I get it home and discover to my horror there is no backlit keyboard. This is on certain overseas models only. I would not have purchased this if I knew.
So, my next question is would it be possible to source one and replace the current one on my computer. There's the question of powering it and connecting it to the light sensor that would switch it on and off.
This is really for a tech but surely there would be someone out there who would know whether this is possible or not.
how to take apart the keyboard on the Sony Vaio TX.

However, the keyboard 'came-away' from the rest of the latop so fast upon lifting it up I did not get a real chance to see how it actually connects to the laptop.
I am now having a real problem connecting the keyboard back to the laptop. Does anyone have any high resolution images of how their laptop is connected or how it should be done?
The Sony Vaio F series was released in sonystyle retail stores across Australia just yesterday, and i have noticed that it does not include a backlit keyboard.
I was actually in the store today and was almost about to purchase one..
until i found out there was no backlit keyboard from the sales staff..... that was the deal breaker for me
I contacted Sony support about the keyboard color; I was going to change the color of my system to white so I could have the white keyboard (and I really started liking the color).
Unfortunately, it was too far along in the process (even though it was backordered and not shipping til the end of April) to modify the order.
It isn't really worth the trouble, in my opinion, to wait for the notebook, return it, and wait another two or three weeks for the white one
I just want to warn you that you can never play games using Sony VAIO Keyboard, I tested all New VAIO models at store, and they all have the same Keyboard issue, and that's: Let's try FIFA 09 for example, while playing you'll see that there is a problem in the keyboard, when holding arrows Down and Right or Down and Left together to move players, then any letter button to (pass, sliding tackle, sprint or whatever else), the game doesn't response to the letter press.
To confirm that issue, open Word or NotePad, hold Down and Right or Down and Left together, then a letter button for example "s", the letter "s" isn't printed.
So you can never play games using Sony VAIO Keyboard, you have to get a GamePad or an external keyboard.
I've installed windows ultimate on my FZ17G.. btw its a clean install and i accidentally format the Sony restore partition... and now i have trouble in installing its keyboard function such as the Fn keys, S key, AV MODE key and the volume control keys (pause stop play next)... which application or driver do i need to install to make them work correctly... btw the increase and decrees volume function work but there is no graphic animation when i push the button
if anyone is having issues with the sony vaio Sr 2X and getting double typing? when i type im getting two or three characters for some keys generally if i type a word like "hello", i will get 3 l's, really annoying.. seems to happen any time i type in double characters.
I have had my VPCZ1 for a few days now and so far I love it, but I really want to be able to turn the backlit keyboard light on all the time - the sensor doesn't kick on early enough for my taste
Im looking to buy the raid cable and bracket for my Z. I've seen old threads and saw that the raid cable is FCP-126, but does anyone know the model number for the bracket?
Trying to get rid of these questionably useful programs -- but I don't see entries for them in add/remove programs in the control panel (or for any of the other useless VAIO software packages that come on OEM machines sans "fresh start")
