I have an XPS M1530, 18 months old, and I am very happy with it.
Over the past few weeks I have noticed a problem with the display, any white parts of the screen image show as red or turquoise colour heavily lined, or black text may have a red halo.
I can easily correct this by changing the angle of tilt of the screen....
Was a happy owner of the new Z (HDD model) and was looking to do some work with installing a new Intel X25.
The disassembly process went fine at first but things fell apart on the 2nd go (when I did to open it the 2nd time to fix the rubber part holding the HDD)....
I have a dv9000 series and the the ribbon cable that goes from the power button to it's respective conector on the motherboard is a bit damaged one of the metal contacts at one end has "skinned" off.
What would you do, look for a replacement online, i doubt a shop would stoc such a thing, of do these cables tend to be standard, the model number of the cable is E118077.
Also you should be able to completely remove a motherboard, including detaching it from the screen and still power the fan on, obvioulsy with the battery connected?

could you somewow slice the end off and then cut a small section so you have some new contacts showing?
I have had my M1530 for abut half a year. At the very beginning I noticed that the screen is not very stiff, for example I the screen lid can be moved by about 2 cm almost with no effort (with one finger) also the he hinges (the bar inside) moves up few millimeters when closing the lid.
It's noticeable when looking at the hinge, and also I can feel that from the force used to move the screen for first 2 cm. The problem des not seem to increase and for the first time I thought its normal, but some time ago I saw an identical XPS without that problem.
I've just reinstalled my OS because my computer was being really slow. anyways, i've installed the ethernet and wireless card drives,
but i can't access the internet wirelessly. when, i plug in the ethernet cable, it works, but when i use wireless, it just connects to my router,
but says it cant access the internet. i remember fixing it by calling comcast, but it took quite awhile ....
I own a Pavilion DV9700 notebook and I noticed that as I was opening my display, the image would disappear. Upon gutting half of my laptop, I noticed that a display cable was ruptured (stuck under a hinge). I took a picture and pointed out the ruptured cable (see below).

1. What part do I need to order?
2. Are there DIY instructions out there?

But the parts of the screen are cut off (the top, left, right and bottom, which doesn't make sense since there is no reason to cut off all sides) I've seen guides telling you how to disable the overscan in the video card settings or in regedit but the thing is, I HAVE NO VIDEO CARD. The guides online assume you have one, but I don't my laptop is as plain as it gets. How can I disable the overscan (if possible)?

I was watching a film on my projector, from my Lenovo T510 laptop, using a Display Port to HDMI cable. There was a thunderstorm and a powercut during the film, but my laptop wasnt plugged in at the time. Then when I touched the Display port end of the cable, which is plugged in to my laptop, it was too hot to touch, and had was slightly bulging and mis shapen! Now it has cooled down and just looks and feels normal. Very strange, and I dont see how it could have been related to the storm and powercut, but it seems a bit too coincidental! I have used this cable multiple times before and never noticed this, but then again maybe I wouldnt have ever touched it until it had cooled down. But I it was pretty much metling it was so hot, so I would think Id notice it.

The ribbon cable on my D820 keyboard was snagged and ripped today and now I can't power on the laptop.
Is there anyway to short a jumper to turn the laptop on or some other way to turn it on??
My HP notebook's keyboard frequently stopped functioning. Each time required that I turn off the computer then turn it back on again. Recently the amount of time between each off/on was so short as to make the machine unusable, except when at home with an external keyboard. So I decided to venture into ensuring the keyboard was securely attached to the motherboard. I'm not expert and ended up breaking one leg of the plastic snap-on that holds the keyboard ribbon onto the motherboard. Oops.
So now I would like to know where I can obtain another one of these cute little snap-on thingies. I've looked into purchasing a new keyboard, which I'll probably do anyway, but I confirmed with a number of sellers that the plastic snap-on is included with the motherboard, not the keyboard. Bummer. So anyone have a suggestion on where I can get this snap-on thingy from?
Note that my notebook is an nx7000 and the keyboard has a model number 337016-001. Also, I've attached a photo of the snap-on thingy:
I have recently purchased a W540 and connected to my Dell u3011 30" monitor. I used the Dual Link DVI-D cable that came with the monitor and plugged it into my Ultra Dock. The maximum resolution i can get is 1920x1080? When i change over to a Display port cable i can achieve the full 2560 x 1600 resolution? Is there something i need to do in addition to achieve the full 2560x1600 resolution with the DVI-D dual link cable? I want to be able to connect 2 laptops to the one monitor and only have 1 display port input so i need to be able to use the DVI cable on the 2nd machine while still achieving 2560x1600 resolution.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Studio 15 laptop and one of the USB ports on the right side of my laptop has become loose (I think it happened when I knocked it on something). Whenever I put a USB into the port I can wriggle it side to side & I can't do this with my other ports & until recently I couldn't do it with this one either.
When I put a USB into the port it isn't detected but if I push down on the casing above the port it sometimes is detected but the second I stop pushing down it's undetected again.
I just received my new M4400 and like it. However, the 9 cell battery I have seems to fit a bit loose on the left side of the computer.
While not a huge issue, it is annoying. Does anyone else have this issue? Should I send the battery back or could it be the internal latch that is loose?
My 640M is still working fine but the LCD hinges seem to be a little loose. i.e. if I tilt the laptop a little, the lcd seems to bend on either side I bend it upon.
I noticed that my friends' laptops - Dell inspirons but newer models ( 14, 1420) etc do not have this loose LCD hinges.
I dont remember if the hinges were loose when a new laptop arrived, but its been about 3 years now and I notice this
I was just wondering if any of you have the same problem. My 9 cell battery is loose from the battery slot on the dell e6400. Is it normal, or should i send it in for a repair
View 10 Replies View RelatedI got dell to send me a new back cover (Blue in color) and instead of the ccfl display i had im now useing the led lcd one.
i used the metal backets that were on my ccfl display and they fit perfect on the led display. how ever when i put it back together the bezel cuts the top of the screen off and the bottom is too low.
is there a bezel espically made just for the led display or do i need to get the correct metal brackets that hold the display into the cover??
I have an M1530 running Windows 7 64bit. I have the display set to turn off after 10 minutes.
When the display turns off I can still see a band of blue light running along the bottom of the display and at night it appears as if the entire display still has a glow to it
when my xps m1530 is turned ON nothing displayed on display some times. i have to turn off and turn on a number of times to get it right. it happens often now. what is the reason??GPU issue?? LCD issue??

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently have had a problem with my Dell XPS M1530. The laptop crashed from what I presume was it overheating. When I switch it back on the screen lights up white with no display. I am able to use the laptop through an external display (pressing FN F8) however the quality is very poor, this is surprising as I used to use an external display frequently at a high quality and I am now unable to change the screen resolution in the display settings. I have also noticed that I can no longed put the laptop into 'sleep' mode. How the two errors could be related but both happened after the same crash.
I have tried to recconect the video cable but unfortunately it didn't work.
Any simple fix to this problem or if the GPU or screen needs to be replaced?
I recently did..well something to cause the headphone jack on my SR to just go limp and useless *that's what she said*....is it possible to fix this if I disassemble the thing? solder job to get it reconnected, or is it as good as gone?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a brand spankin new HP dv5t series, got it 3 days ago, i inspected it when i got it out of the box and it was beautiful.
However a little later I noticed that the power (cord side) that you plug in to charge was pretty loose.
Now just today I tripped on the long part of the cord... it moved the laptops position on the desk a few inches, and enough to pull it out of the box in the middle of the cord, and it feels even loser.. but I cant tell if it really did, i might just be paranoid.
This worries me because on my last two laptops they were pretty tight and had no play in them, both of the ended up broken.

Can you press Help Win+B (or ctrl-b, alt-b) then turn on the laptop. Does it make beeps?, if you put in a USB floppy disk, with a disk inside, does it try to read it?
If so it might be possible to rewrite the BIOS so that it will initialize the "Vidock/hwtools.net" pci-express adapter FIRST.
Just like how in BIOS you can "set it" (via setup) to initialize the AGP or PCI video card FIRST, or PCI-E or PCI video card FIRST.
My Vaio is just out of warranty and it's always had a bit of a clicky odd left-button.
I've noticed that it is gradually getting worse so I'm expecting it to break soon. I should have had it done while the computer was in warranty, but I've heard bad things about their service centre, and they'd probably have charged me for the repair anyway. I did ask them about it toward the end of the warranty period and they wanted me to email them Admin passwords and then pick up the computer for an undisclosed period. I just didn't fancy it - my fault.
Anyway, I have several friends at work who are IT technicians and one of them will have a look. I haven;t found a service manual for the CR series yet, but I'm assuming the buttons are part of the mount for the trackpad and can either be replaced individually or the mount (or pad) can be replaced.
It's just over a year old and I'm thinking about boosting the RAM, HD and upgrading to W7, but on the other hand, I'm not convinced the machine is going to survive another 2-3 years...
I have a HP9743CL sitting next to my old 2529Cl and both connect to my home wireless network. Two weeks ago the 9743CL worked fine but now it drops the connection after 4 minutes. I turned off the firewall on the laptop thinking maybe it was blocking something. That didn't help.
I turned off the firewall on the router Westell327W and that didn't help. in the mean time my 2529Cl just keeps plugging along. staying connected. Is there a setting I accidentally changed.
When it dies and I try to have internet explorer fix the problem if comes back with a statement saying my firewall is blocking port 80. Well, now that everything is turned off what is the cause.
I was running zonealarm on the 9743CL and the stock firewall on the Westell327W.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Vostro 1500, which I bought 10 months ago. About 3 months ago the screen became loose and wobbled about 10 degrees when computer was moved or if I was on the train and it went over bumps. I tightened the screws as advised but this did not have any real effect. Dell engineer came and replaced the back cover with new hinges, (as they though hinges may be broken/at fault but they were fine,) but some wobble was still noticable so he ordered a new base. He came today and took the screen out complete with all the screen casing out of the old base, and put it into the new base, but still wobbled, so just put it back in the old base as it wouldn't have cured the problem.
Now yesterday, after he put the new back cover on, he had to take the plastic around the front of the screen off. After he put it together I noticed that the screen is no longer flush with the plastic surround and it annoys me! Am I just being finicky/picky or should I ask them to fix it?
