View 7 RepliesHas anyone here been using their FW notebook's keyboard intensively and could share their experience?
Pretty much every review I've read praises the keyboard - but does the keyboard hold well over time?
I spend most of the work day typing, and would like to know if FW is an option for me.
the hinge on the left side of my Vaio FW290 laptop just broke, and it's conveniently 1 month after my warranty ended - not that they would have covered it anyways, they probably would have called it physical damage and not under warranty. The hinge is completely seperate from the body and it just flops around, and that's not good considering it is where the power cord plugs into the laptop. I want to replace it, and I have no problem doing it myself, but I don't know exactly what part(s) to get.
I know this is a common problem with this model, so I was hoping someone else here has repaired theirs and could tell me what parts I need. I found a place that sells virtually every replacement part imaginable:[url]. I guessing that the part I need is one of these two:
HINGE LEFT: [url]
LCD BKT LFT: [url]
LCD HINGE COVER-LFT: [url]
I recently dropped my laptop from about a foot from the ground and the cylinder that connects the laptop to the lcd has cracked in 3 spots (1 major and two really tiny cracks) It seems as if the actual hinge to the lcd is still in good condition however. I have the extended warranty however I didn't buy the accidental damage protection. . The power button/cylinder had gotten dislodged a few months ago and i figure I can get these both fixed at the same time. . . Does anyone know how much sony would charge to fix/ know a way to get them to do the repairs for free?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a 14z from dell outlet. I had actually bought a 14z a few weeks ago, but was very unhappy with the 720p screen. I arranged for a return, and began looking/waiting for one with a 900p screen. I was able to find one for not much more than the first one, with all the same specs. However, it had the black chain link cover.
I knew I didn't want this cover, as I already have my Sager 9262/fingerprint magnet. I very much liked the red textured finish on my fist 14z, so I bought a refurbished red cover with my purchase.
Let me first say that I am fairly experienced in taking apart, and reassembling notebook computers. I have replaced several parts, including motherboards, and screens in several previous dell models and my Sager/Clevo D901C.
To get to the point, I took my new 14z apart, removed the screen, took that apart, and replaced the black chain link cover with the red one I purchased. I made sure to follow the service manual instructions to the letter. Everything seemed to go fine, except that now when closing my 14z, the top right corner of the screen does not come down all the way. There is an obvious gap, maybe 1/4 inch or so on the right side, while the left is completely flush.
This may be something I just have to live with, but I'm hoping maybe someone has experienced this, either on a new laptop, or after working on one, and was able to find the culprit. so far, I can't find anything that would hinder flush contact.
I know it's kinda dumb but it's annoyingly bright when I've got the computer on at night and it's busy converting video or doing other work. It's also less power used.
It can't be done through software but has anyone physically unplugged them? I've not opened up the case yet so I don't know how practical that would be, thought I'd ask around first.
I purchased a fw235j notebook about two months ago and the circular hinge near the charge port popped out so that it sticking out very loose, preventing me from shutting my computer. I think it happened because of the tension of the charger plugged into it. Sort of hard to exlpain, but if you own this notebook you know what part I'm talking about. (And if you don't own it i would recommend against it just because of this serious design flaw lol).
Has this happened to anyone else with a fw235j? If so what did you do to fix it? I tried forcing the piece back in so that i could shut the comp but that isn't working. It looks like a little plastic piece might have snapped off but it's so small that I can't tell for sure. I imagine this could be a pretty common problem because of the way this piece was designed. I mean, mine broke after 2 months of normal use (no falls or anything).
anyway, my computer is still functioning fine-it can still charge, its shuts down and boots up fine. but because of that piece it won't shut which is more than just a little bit annoying.
I have a compaq presario, product name "Presario C700" and p/n "FE934UA#ABA." The operating system is Windows Vista. I have internet from Comcast and the router I am using is Netgear. I recently moved to a new place and am having trouble connecting to the Wifi at home. I've had this laptop for several years now and have been able to connect to some wifi in the past, but there have been times when I haven't been able to connect to wifi in some public places. I am able to connect to the wifi on my phone and another laptop but not this one. I have tried resetting the router and numerous other steps but nothing seems to resolve the problem. Every time I try to connect, it says that the signal strength is excellent, but it is unable to identify the network and says that "the router is unavailable." I have already called my router company but they were not able to resolve the problem. The only way I can connect to the internet is using an ethernet cord.

View 10 Replies View RelatedWith my Lenovo X1 Carbon preinstalled image I noticed strange behaviour of my right click popups from the desktop and some dropdowns from menus. They are aligned to the left, not the right.

I.e. I rightclick on the dektop, my cursor is is on the top right corner, not the top left corner.

I find this very annoying as every app that doesn't use the windows setting does it th other way around. Also, subitems open to the left. Is there a way to return this to normal. I can't seem find the "switch".
I'm looking for a laptop with a non-TN panel to replace an aging Lenovo T60 and I heard elsewhere on NBR that some VAIOs fit this description

Overnight a problem with the screen on my Sony Vaio FZ has become apparent. A think multi colour bar had started to appear at the bottom of the screen. I am not entirely sure if the problem is related to the 8400GT graphics processor, I have had a preciously faulty one replaced which I hope reduces the likelihood that the graphics processor is the culprit. I am just going through now backing up my data in case the fault spreads further. My eye sight may not be sharp enough but it may have expanded.
Note that in the pictures attached it appears green but when I have something else up as wallpaper, or a program open, the colours change to reflect in some way what is on the rest of the screen. For example when I have word opinion the blue background appears black on the bar, the text area is a shade of grey. Also, my taskbar is not that thick. My available space on screen has not gone away as much as the fault bar suggests it should have, it is as though my screen has adjusted in some way.
I've reading the VAIO Z thread and quite a few people has experienced scratches on the LCD screen caused by the keyboard.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Sony VAIO VGN-AW360J.
About two weeks ago I noticed something weird with the brightness regulation of the display. When I tried to change the brightness
(always set up to the maximum) to a lower degree using the keys (Fn – F5) a high pitch noise can be heart coming from the screen (to be more exact -
from the lid of the laptop, below the VAIO logo), and it is very noticeable in a quieter environment. Continuing lowering the degrees of brightness would cause higher or less noise. The nosier setting is at 90% of brightness
Since getting my Vaio Z I have been really anal about it and looking after it like a new born baby.
I really need to clean my screen but I dont want to scratch or damage it so I am wondering what do you guys use to clean your screens? Is a lint free cloth with some solution ok?
I have a Sony FS VGN-FS640 Vaio laptop and when i boot the laptop all i see is the Vaio logo and then the screen goes blank nothing happens! how can i bring the windows back? This laptop runs winodws XP.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Vaio Z about 2 weeks ago. Last night, I brought the notebook out of standby and after a few minutes of working with it, I noticed a vertical region on the right side of the screen that would dim and comeback on again, just like you see with florescent lights when they are faulty. There was no specific pattern to it, just random. I turned the notebook on and off, and the problem seems to be gone. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem before or know what it is.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI would like to know if there's a way to remove the liquid under my LCD screen.
At first there was a big circle with a diameter of 3 inches. then after leaving it idle for about 3 or 4 days, the circle shrinked with a diameter of 2 cm. after that, I left the computer alone for another 4 days and that 2cm circle is still there. i turned the laptop and viewed the screen at a 45 angle and i see one normal drop of water and many small drops in that one area.
should i wait until it dries out? or should i disassemble the screen?
- considering there's no air or anything in the LCD screen itself, i dont think the water will disappear anytime soon. possibly 2 or 4 months? lol =(
water came in contact with the SCREEN only, all other parts (keyboard, speakers, cpu, etc. are CLEAN)
Since many people don't have opportunity to see these laptops in person, it would be nice to see some photos from the screen. It would be nice if some could post pictures from dual lamp screen too, so we can compare the difference.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got a z11 and will be returning my macbook pro soon.
The only thing that is making me hesitant is the screen brightness of the z. With the plug in and full brightness, it's not that bright, at least NO WHERE NEAR as bright as the macbook pro with high res anti-glare. Is this normal?
How many of you Z owners find the screen brightness too low? Even at full, it feels dim.
I have a Sony Vaio Laptop. Its warranty ended 7th December. Phoned them to get it picked up and now they have it so any work should be covered under warranty.
There is a particle under the screen. I took a picture of it and emailed it to Sony who diagnosed it as dead pixels. They said they would repair it for free under warranty.
Now that they have the laptop they say there is a particle under the screen. They sent me a picture of it and the photo looks identical to what I sent them earlier which they diagnosed dead pixels.
Now they are saying it was accidental damage by me and want to charge to replace the screen (same price as I paid for the laptop).
I think that this is ridiculous and that they should repair it under warranty. They will not accept these two arguments:
1. If I damaged it then I would have had to have opened the screen which there should be evidence of.
2. If the particle got in some other way through a gap then it is a manufacturing flaw because there should be no way of a particle getting in there.
It seems only the 1920 resolution Z has the 96 percent adobe RGB. The screen seems a lot more colorful.
So first the SSD issue, and now this
fairly old Vaio laptop. Can barely get past start up screen. Half the time all i get is black screem when i turn it on. I can get into windows though after a few attempts. I would like to completely reformat it, preferably putting on xp or even the new Windows 7. But i dont have any boots discs. So i don't know how to go about doing it. A breif step by step on how to wipe my laptop would be perfect.
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday my 2 week old laptop was closed, put into a fully padded laptop bag, Velcro strap over to hold it in place. Nothing else in the bag. Put in car, drove 80 miles, took out of car and setup. It noticed a small mark on the screen right where the screen folds down to the track pad. It seems the Back ridge of the track pad, has pushed onto the screen creating this mark.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just replaced the broken jack from this laptop and when I put it back together and turn it on the screen looks like this. I think it's a loose cable but I'm not quite sure.
View 10 Replies View RelatedHas anyone else noticed marks on their screen caused by the ridge that sits just above the trackpad?
I always ensure that the screen is against a folder or other flat surface in my bag so that it is protected from pressure. I have previously had screen damage to other laptops caused by keyboards and parts of the inner surface rubing against the screen when the laptop is closed.
In the last few months I have seen marks on my Z11's screen in the form of a line across the screen 2/3 of the way up where the ridge between the trackpad and keyboard occasionally presses against the screen but they had always wiped off. Yesterday I went to wipe them off and it seems as though thay are permanent
On a cheap laptop bad design like this is acceptable but on something this expensive it really isn't OK!! Especially when they market the screen as being resistant to marks...
Recently I have noticed that at the bottom of my Sony FW screen it gets quite hot. It gets hot where the Sony writing is, all the way along the bottom, where I think the screens inverter is located behind.
Also If I run my finger from the bottom of the screen, upwards, towards the top, it gradually goes from warm to cold.
Is there something overheating or would this just be normal?
where I can find a disassembly guide for the VGN-TZ250N.
I cracked the screen and have a replacement in hand but have been unable to figure out how to take it apart properly.
I have found some online for the older version but they seem to have changed the way the pc is built.
