I just got a z11 and will be returning my macbook pro soon.
The only thing that is making me hesitant is the screen brightness of the z. With the plug in and full brightness, it's not that bright, at least NO WHERE NEAR as bright as the macbook pro with high res anti-glare. Is this normal?
How many of you Z owners find the screen brightness too low? Even at full, it feels dim.
received the new Z 7 days ago, great is just a great little notebook, the best i had (coming from an SZ premium).
The only thing that is killing me is the auto brightness, the resolution is the 1920x and in dim light the brightness is going down, after 1 hour my eyes are red. The only thing that i can do is putting the lamp directly on top of the keyboard so the sensor adjusts the brightness to the maximum level.
What can i do? I can't find a way to turn down the auto brightness....
I've done a search and couldn't find anything relevant.
My FZ of 28 months old has suddenly started making a faint buzzing noise from the screen.
At first I thought it was the fan, but I realized it's the LCD. I can't change the brightness for some reason using Windows 7 but it's on Max Bright. I've seen some threads of people having this problem on lowered brightness levels but this is happening on full.
When I shut the lid, the buzzing stops. It can be heard if I stand behind the laptop or place my ear beside either rear corner of the laptop.
the brightness keeps resetting after a period of time, I set it all the way to the lowest because the room I work in is very dim, then after a few minutes the brightness keeps resetting to a brighter setting
I recently upgraded by Windows Vista 32bit business VaioZ690C Laptop to windows 7 professional. So far, everything has worked out great, but I have a couple questions:
1) How do I get my brightness keys to work? I cannot increase / decrease it
2) When I installed Windows 7, many of the Windows Vista drivers rolled right onto Windows 7, and would absolutely perfectly, do I still need to uninstall them all and install the "windows 7 version" or is this fine.
extra info: *running R3054M3 bios ("I THINK")* *running v.5 of vaio event service(i think something like that*
This is almost a classic problem. I just installed XP SP3 on a Vaio G11. I did everything according to Sony's plan. But the brightness keys don't work.
Is there a chance that Sony's drivers were written for XP SP2, and that SP3 is the cause of my problems?
Reason I'm thinking this is that SP3 recognized some devices that SP2 doesn't recognize
I just installed Win7, sticking as much as possible to this method: VAIO FW Clean Windows 7 Install Guide
everything's working, all FN keys, volume multimedia zoom LCD out, all but brightness.
problem is, using the FN keys, the brightness dialog is showing, but I can't increase or decrease it. brightness does not show up on power managment nor on mobilty center. the power plans from vaio ("VAIO optimized") are showing, but still if I pull the plug screen stays on maximum brightness...
I deleted a bunch of programs that I didn't know what they were.. i think i deleted something important because I cant adjust the brightness on my laptop anymore.. either with the brightness buttons or manually.. is there a driver or seomthing I can download again to gain this function back?
just can't seem to get my Brightness controls to work in speed mode in windows 7.
I've tried 169.09, 180.70 and the most recent forceware drivers.
I've installed the registry file that was recommended in one thread. I've tried all kinds of orders. Still, nothing.
I've currently installed (in this order) SPEF SonyPI Shared Library SonyUtils DLL Event Service The Registry Patch NVIDIA Drivers
They work fine in STAMINA, but not in SPEED. I can't even access them through Windows Mobility Center or Power Options. I can change them a very small amount though the NVIDIA control panel through the "adjust color settings" tab. Otherwise, theres no mobility options in the NVIDIA panel.
One of the most troublesome consequences of downgrading your VAIO to Windows XP is not being able to adjust the screen brightness using the F5/F6 keys.
This tutorial aims to (i) resolve that issue, and (ii) retain the ability to adjust brightness when you update to the latest LaptopVideo2Go drivers. The below methods have been tested on VAIO FZ, FW, and NS laptops with NVIDIA GeForce 8X00M cards, and they are working flawlessly with the LV2G 190.15 driver.
Part 1: Enabling Fn Brightness Control
Skip this step if your brightness control is already working
In order to be able to use the brightness control on a XP-Downgraded machine, you need:
1. VAIO Event Service Hotfix (Which updates the VESConfig.ini file for the VAIO Event Service) -> You can get this at[url]. -> If you have an FZ, you can use the VESConfig.ini I have attached
2. NVIDIA Driver with Customised nv4_disp.inf (Refer to Part 2)............
i am using my TT in the dark, once i turn the lights off in my room, the screen becomes dim. So it kinda makes it hard to see the keyboard. So i have to turn the lights on so i can see it clearly, how can i prevent this?
I have checked the power plan and i have all of them set up to maximum brightness. I just want the screen to remain as bright as it does when the lights are on. It was dim when i purchased my TT a few months back. Then i did a restore and it was cool. Then i did another restore and it went back to being dim. This was even though the restores when done were the exact same to a tee. I didn't mess with any settings.
I've just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my Vaio Z11MNB. As Google told me there is a problem with the FN + F5/F6 brightness adjust in speed mode.
All Sony software ist installed correctly and in the newest version I found.
As in many threads mentioned I followed the right order. But I still cannot adjust the brightness in speed mode
This thread Problem with Vaio Z Windows 7 brightness lead me to the right graphic drivers I thougt... Okay these drivers[url] are for the ZD790 but this shouldn't matter it's the same 9300GS chipset...
The following sony software is installed: SETTING_UTILITY_SERIES_5.1_5.1.0.11200 SFEP_DRIVER_SONY_8.0_10Q1_O_7_8.0.1.1 SPIC_DRIVER_8.0_09Q3_7_8.0.1.1 SONY_SHARED_LIBRARY_5.5_5.5.0.10160 VAIO_CONTROL_CENTER_4.1_4.1.0.10160 VAIO_EVENT_SERVICE_5.1FH_5.1.0.12010 VAIO_POWER_MANAGEMENT_5.0_5.0.0.11300 VAIO_SMART_NETWORK_3.1_3.1.0.11250
Another smaller problem: From time to time there is a yellow exclamation mark at the SD-Hostcontroller in the device manager. I've googled a lot but there seems to be no other driver than the windows included. VEN_1180&DEV_0822
I have recently purchased a used Vaio laptop, model number VGN-FJ180P.
When I first got it, the battery was dead. So I assumed that my problem with the screen brightness was due to needing a new battery. Basically, when I use the screen brightness keys, I see the meter change on-screen, but none of the settings have any effect on the actual brightness of the LCD screen itself.
I spent a lot of time cleaning out the junk, unnecessary programs, etc. Then I proceeded to install all necessary Windows updates, as well as all the necessary Vaio updates. I have run extensive maintenance on this laptop, and have made sure that it is malware free. I then proceeded to read up on possible Fn key problems, and made sure I had all of the right software installed to ensure proper functionality of Fn keys. To be clear, all my Fn keys work fine, and all onscreen meters/graphics that pertain to them show up. It's just that the screen brightness can't be changed...............
I am considering some laptops and the sony vaio is one of them. I have heard great things about the screen but it is glossy, something I have sworn off all these years. I have seeing reflections on my screen. how the anti-reflective screen performs?
I m having an HP pavilion G62016-TX with Windows7 ultimate with 64 bit version,Purchased on Nov'2012.  Recently my PC crashed and when it was reinstalled with all drivers from HP FTP i am having below problems.  When i am adjusting my brightness , it is getting adjusted but the adjusting bar usually shown in the screen is missing.  When i am adjusting my sound , it is getting adjusted but the adjusting bar usually shown in the screen is missing.
I updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. Since it seemed to be affected by BIOS, I updated again to 2.27 just now, but the problem persists. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.
Overnight a problem with the screen on my Sony Vaio FZ has become apparent. A think multi colour bar had started to appear at the bottom of the screen. I am not entirely sure if the problem is related to the 8400GT graphics processor, I have had a preciously faulty one replaced which I hope reduces the likelihood that the graphics processor is the culprit. I am just going through now backing up my data in case the fault spreads further. My eye sight may not be sharp enough but it may have expanded.
Note that in the pictures attached it appears green but when I have something else up as wallpaper, or a program open, the colours change to reflect in some way what is on the rest of the screen. For example when I have word opinion the blue background appears black on the bar, the text area is a shade of grey. Also, my taskbar is not that thick. My available space on screen has not gone away as much as the fault bar suggests it should have, it is as though my screen has adjusted in some way.
I have Sony VAIO VGN-AW360J. About two weeks ago I noticed something weird with the brightness regulation of the display. When I tried to change the brightness
(always set up to the maximum) to a lower degree using the keys (Fn – F5) a high pitch noise can be heart coming from the screen (to be more exact -
from the lid of the laptop, below the VAIO logo), and it is very noticeable in a quieter environment. Continuing lowering the degrees of brightness would cause higher or less noise. The nosier setting is at 90% of brightness
Since getting my Vaio Z I have been really anal about it and looking after it like a new born baby.
I really need to clean my screen but I dont want to scratch or damage it so I am wondering what do you guys use to clean your screens? Is a lint free cloth with some solution ok?
I have a Sony FS VGN-FS640 Vaio laptop and when i boot the laptop all i see is the Vaio logo and then the screen goes blank nothing happens! how can i bring the windows back? This laptop runs winodws XP.
I purchased a Vaio Z about 2 weeks ago. Last night, I brought the notebook out of standby and after a few minutes of working with it, I noticed a vertical region on the right side of the screen that would dim and comeback on again, just like you see with florescent lights when they are faulty. There was no specific pattern to it, just random. I turned the notebook on and off, and the problem seems to be gone. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem before or know what it is.
I would like to know if there's a way to remove the liquid under my LCD screen.
At first there was a big circle with a diameter of 3 inches. then after leaving it idle for about 3 or 4 days, the circle shrinked with a diameter of 2 cm. after that, I left the computer alone for another 4 days and that 2cm circle is still there. i turned the laptop and viewed the screen at a 45 angle and i see one normal drop of water and many small drops in that one area.
should i wait until it dries out? or should i disassemble the screen?
- considering there's no air or anything in the LCD screen itself, i dont think the water will disappear anytime soon. possibly 2 or 4 months? lol =(
water came in contact with the SCREEN only, all other parts (keyboard, speakers, cpu, etc. are CLEAN)
Since many people don't have opportunity to see these laptops in person, it would be nice to see some photos from the screen. It would be nice if some could post pictures from dual lamp screen too, so we can compare the difference.
I have a Sony Vaio Laptop. Its warranty ended 7th December. Phoned them to get it picked up and now they have it so any work should be covered under warranty.
There is a particle under the screen. I took a picture of it and emailed it to Sony who diagnosed it as dead pixels. They said they would repair it for free under warranty.
Now that they have the laptop they say there is a particle under the screen. They sent me a picture of it and the photo looks identical to what I sent them earlier which they diagnosed dead pixels.
Now they are saying it was accidental damage by me and want to charge to replace the screen (same price as I paid for the laptop).
I think that this is ridiculous and that they should repair it under warranty. They will not accept these two arguments: 1. If I damaged it then I would have had to have opened the screen which there should be evidence of. 2. If the particle got in some other way through a gap then it is a manufacturing flaw because there should be no way of a particle getting in there.
fairly old Vaio laptop. Can barely get past start up screen. Half the time all i get is black screem when i turn it on. I can get into windows though after a few attempts. I would like to completely reformat it, preferably putting on xp or even the new Windows 7. But i dont have any boots discs. So i don't know how to go about doing it. A breif step by step on how to wipe my laptop would be perfect.
